RESERVATION ROAD, the revenge drama starring Connelly, Phoenix and Ruffalo, gets a trailer!!

Published at:  Aug 08, 2007 8:49:14 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Now, this isn't to be confused with the similarly titled REVOLUTIONARY ROAD, the Sam Mendes flick starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. This is the new film from Terry George (HOTEL RWANDA) starring Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Connelly and Joaquin Phoenix.

I'm a big fan of every one of those people I listed as being a part of this film and the trailer looks really good... like it's from a different era of filmmaking. This feels like it could be a '70s flick, which is one of the things I liked so much about THE DEPARTED. That felt like it could have come from that era as well. These seriously intense character dramas... love it. Hope this one lives up the trailer...

It's kind of presented in a lame format over at Amazon... streaming, but clear and not choppy.

    by thebloop

Mark Ruffalo, along with Bill Pulman and Josh Harnett, suck the life out of any film they show up in. Damn them all. Now Jennifer Connelly, I would sleep with her if I had too, and she would like it.

    Ruffalo in Collateral, sucking life

    by thebloop

Was dead wait on the screen when he was on.
He almost killed Zodiac with his blandness.
How about "13 going on 30, could he be more dull? God, in Copycat, he actually made a movie about a pyscho killer boring. Oh wait, that was Dermot Mulroney. How do you tell them apart? Please tell

    by alliejamison

I just thought...what about doing a film with only blurry talking heads. I guess that I'd really like the trailer if I actually recognized any shapes though. The only obstacle I have: Mark Rufallo is a very foreign-unfriendly actor. I need about 45 minutes to actually adapt to his talking style and understand anything of what he's saying. So I probably have to go see this film in its dubbed version, which sucks.

Great Book, trailer seems to be close to the material

    by stormwatcher

I bought this book based off of a Entertainment Weekly article of all places years ago and loved it. Kinda ends predictably but the emotion and actions of the two father was genuine. Perfect casting for the arc involved in the story. Look forward to it, but it will be a downer.

Here's what they say about it. RESERVATION ROAD Terry George, USA. A compelling tale about the lure of revenge and the power of redemption, the drama revolves around two fathers whose families and lives tragically converge with the death of a child. In the aftermath, Ethan (two-time Academy Award nominee Joaquin Phoenix) and Dwight (Mark Ruffalo) each react in unexpected ways as their families struggle to cope and an emotional reckoning looms. Directed by Terry George (HOTEL RWANDA), the film also stars Academy Award winners Jennifer Connelly and Mira Sorvino. Kinda weird to hear "Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino". Are we sure that's not a misprint?

You've got to be kidding, right? You're going to use 13 Going On 30 as an example of a movie that Mark Ruffalo sucked the life out of? That movie had no life from the moment the premise was scratched on the back of a bar napkin. It was a POS that he obviously did for the paycheck. Check out You Can Count On Me for the quintessential Ruffalo role, and I'm not sure about your credibility after saying his work in Zodiac was bland.

    by garbageman33

A few years back, a pickup truck sideswiped me when I was riding my bike and sent me headfirst into the curb. The impact split the helmet clean in half and still gave me a concussion. If I wasn't wearing a helmet, I'd have been dead. No question about it. The fucked-up part is, the driver didn't so much as slow down. To this day, I keep my eye out for that piece of shit pickup truck. And if I ever see it, there's gonna be hell to pay, Marcellus Wallace style.

as saying that Reservation Road will be among the Academy's Best Picture nominees when the dust settles. Granted, I haven't seen the film or any of the other films rumored to be in contention, but there's something very human about this story that I think will resonate with parents across the country. I think the cast is fantastic and judging from the trailer, I think this is going to be one of the very best films of the year. Phoenix looks fantastic, like he really committed to the role, and Ruffalo's sad, puppy-dog eyes expertly convery the guilt that his character is forced to live with. Sign me up for the Reservation Road bandwagon.

i know that's played out, but somebody had to say it. how can you guys hate on ruffalo when he sported that stash in 'safe men'? jesus crust! he is great. just because he doesn't spaz out or chew scenery doesn't mean he's not good, he even translates well to the stage and not a lot of actors can do that. in fact i think it kinda blows that it didn't say 'academy award winners phoenix and ruffalo.' jennifer connelly is pretty and has big jugs but her acting is like watching paste dry.

and the trailer takes on a much more interesting tone. Something more dark, multi-faceted and sinister. That song slapped on it white washes the whole thing into a bland paste. I hope they stay away from stuff like that on the actual soundtrack of the movie. Cause it looks like the movie MAY be pretty solid. But that song makes it hard to tell.

    by theseeker7

Like typical Hollywood trailers anymore, it gives way too much away. I mean this looks like the kind of movie that's about the slow burn, of being taken to a place emotionally you never thought you could be, and what to do when you get there, but shit, now I've seen the Cliffs Notes version of the movie, all that's missing is the very ending.
