advertises the comics more than the film

    by realdoublej

Of the clips you do see, the animation does look stunning. A lot more fluid than the Marvel DVD movies & the style....well, it's Cooke's style from the comics so bless 'em for getting that right! Anyone else concerned that we didn't hear from the actors? Just the usual DC Top Brass going "*SPLOOGE!* IT R GR8£!$!*DOUBLESPLOOGE!*"

    Get Over Conroy

    by ds9sisko

I, just like many of you, loved Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman. I watched/heard his work from day one of Batman: TAS. But that is obviously not the route DC/Warners wanted to take i.e. well known guest names. I can see the marketing to the masses now: "Kyle Maclachlan! Lucy Lawless! Neil Patrick Harris! David Boreanaz! and KEVIN CONROY!"...Yeah, I can totally see Lindsay Lohan raise a toast to that one....Conroy is fantastic and I hope he comes back soon (in a dedicated Batman project), but Sisto is just fine. Give yer bitchin a rest and break out an enema, for God's sake.

Does Animation have that Final Frontier look to you?

    by ripper t. jones

Granted it's just a preview, but the animation seemed to have a more 70's look to it. I was really hoping for the big bold lines and retro look of the book.

... but that's not really a trailer is it? Let's hear the voices! I hope that DC kicks the ass of Marvel's crappy direct to dvd movies. Darwyn Cooke seems to be intimately involved in the adaptation, which is a good sign. The Marvel movies were basically done by a bunch of untalented dudes that thought they could "improve" on work that was done by great people.

    re: recasting of voices

    by charlie murphy

i don't give a fuck. jeremy sisto? he's the man. if anyone doubts jeremy sisto will be a great bat-voice, they're mistaken.david boreanaz and warrior princess? what's wrong with them? the cast will be perfectly acceptable. and the reason they recast the roles is because the new frontier is not a continuation or even in the same universe as JLU. I'm guessing the producers don't want the kiddies (or, apparantly, us) to get confused. (although seeing as this isn't connected to that justice league show, i don't see why they needed to use the same font as the show did and call it "Justice League: the new frontier." just fucking call it the new frontier, we know what we're buying, and just slap a cartoon batman and superman on the front for the kiddies.) .... what was i talking about again?

I have seen every ep of anything in the DC Animated Universe, and I loved Conroy and his era...but...this looks great too. It's different, so the voices should be different. Hell, they could be giving us another Superman - Brainiac Attacks, you know? I think they should be applauded for finally attempting to take a good book and do it right, that's what they should always be doing, it's so simple.

    by aquatarkusman

On Boomerang last night, his tortured reading of a Batman forced to confront his fears by Dr. Crane on Justice Friends, or one of those millions of 70s knockoff shows, convinced me. Plus, he could deliver the line "And how come nobody ever does the Batusi anymore?"

    by blwiseass

Maybe Sisto will do a great job. I have nothing to judge him on because i have not yet gotten to 6 feet under on DVD yet. I just know that any time i see an animated batman, i hear Conroy's voice in my head and it will be distracting to hear something else. At least initially.

Hey, Byrne's five year run on Fantastic Four was one of the consistently highest quality performances on any comic in the 20th century, so cut him some slack.
His style just doesn't fit well with today's hip, edgy, cynical heroes.

While I haven't read the books, so your comments about the politics potentially being anachronistic are appreciated. The notion that Kennedy did "nothing" in office is, however, absurd. While I agree that many people have an overly romantic notion of JFK's time in office (as has been the case with other past presidents), ignoring his successes with the Cuban Missile Crisis, contributions on the front-end of the civil rights era, establishment of the Peace Corps and his push for elevating the US presence in the space race is simply unfair. Yes, he also had significant failures, but both successes and failures all came in roughly 1/2 a term. Beyond that, if JFK were to take a time machine to the present day, it's doubtful that he could be a politician. He *especially* couldn't be a Republican who'd receive the Presidential nomination. Remember... he actually risked his life while in the military, lamented the boys lost during the Bay of Pigs, and actually chose a few battles that could be won in a person's lifetime. At best, JFK as a Republican would be greeted as warmly as Jack Kemp.
