The Next BATMAN Movie!
Hey Coaxial people, I couldn't get ahold of Glen with this, and I'm so excited by it... well, I had to post it for him. But send your mail concerning this one to GLEN!!!
Well folks, I (Harry) got it confirmed today that Paul Dini will indeed be writing the next BATMAN movie. Not only that, but Bruce Timm and Paul Dini will also be producing!
Is this our dreams come true?
Not quite. While WARNERS is certainly showing signs of coolness (ie MATRIX) they have not yet passed into the ubercoolness realm that we Geeks click our heels and wish for.
The next BATMAN feature will be direct to video, and it will be a huge animated BATMAN BEYOND extravaganza. The target release date will be for late 2000. So folks, for me that's exciting as hell simply because... well I love the animated series, I love the work that Paul Dini and Bruce Timm do, and if the perfect incarnation of Batman is to be in an animated form.... then so be it. I just wish they (Warners) would open their eyes and see that perfection is right in their grasps for the huge payoff.... Sigh...
The plotline is not yet known, but you can be guaranteed that Glen and Coaxial will be on the case for sure!

I suppose I'd be excited if Batman Beyond was worth a crap. It's an OK cartoon I guess, but I'd far rather watch Bruce Wayne be Batman than some kid. I'm not happy that the far superior Batman and Superman cartoons are out of production anyway, but to axe them in favor of this on TV, and now on direct-to-video features, is quite grating. Why not a Justice League direct-to-video feature?

oh ok so this isnt the LIVE action George Clooney, Joel Shulmaucher (lets screw up Batgirls origins again) movie that we're DEFINITLY talking animated...an animated Batman Beyond I think I could deal with its just...why didnt they start this project back in 1998 so it would be out in the FIRST half of 2000??? AAAARRRHh!!!

The Matrix is one of my favorite movies ever and I saw it opening night. Amazing visuals, totally immersive storytelling and some of the best fighting caught on film. Also a very original and unpredictable joy-ride.
It opened to $19.2 million through Friday night, it made $9.6m Friday alone. The word-of-mouth is incredible and it could break $40m before Monday. -
Cool. Timm and Dini have done a sterling job in all their adaptions on the DC Universe, with a good mix of respect of the history, interpreation and innovation, humor, and knowing winks to fan boys and chicks. Batman Beyond has been a decent series so far, being more than just the kiddie series early interviews implied it might be.
My only question is, why can't they just make more episodes of all their current DC shows? Beyond just debuted this year, and already they have shown The Golem there times. -
One downside not noted by Harry and Glen; a 'standard' Batman animated feature, directed by Randy Rogel and another chap whose name escapes me (but is set forth at Brian Cruz's website, where I got this information), has been scrubbed, just before voice recording was to begin (implying the script had been finished).
While Batman Beyond has been getting the resources, it looks like it's the end of the line for the regular Batman and Superman television series.

I don't know if this is old news, but Dark Horizons recently posted an article on the new live action movie script. It features Clay face, The Scarecrow and just Batman. (Robin gets be-headed in the first act!). Not a prequal with a teenage Batsy after all.

I thought the Dark Horizon live action story turned out to be an April Fools gag. Let's hope the following is too. As mentioned in a previous post, there's been a discussion on the WB site about the cancellation of a planned Batman animated film in favor of the Batman beyond movie. A poster, "Mr. Mayhem," quoted a response from Boyd Kirkland he had recieved concerning this.
"Dear Mr. Mayhem:
Yes, I'm sorry to confirm that what you have heard is true. Randy Rogel and I had finished the script to the next animated Batman movie, I had artists working on the preproduction designs, and we were just a week away from recording the actors, when the plug was pulled on the project. The reason given for
the decision was that since Batman Beyond has been such a huge ratings success on the WB, Warners and its consumer products partners would rather put all of the emphasis on that show now.I have heard of no intention to make more of the regular Batman TV episodes at
this time. I agree with you, that I think a large audience still exists out there for the old Batman,but apparently Warner management needs convincing of that. My word carries very little weight, it seems, in
this regard. Perhaps if thousands of fans started a letter writing campaign demanding more Batman, they could make it happen. This was posted on the first of April, so take it as you like. The poster has not come forward to say April Fools, so I take it the post was sincere. Rumor has it that WB has ordered 52 episodes of BB, but none of Batman. Can anyone confirm this? -
Hmm, IMO Bruce Wayne is still the primary reason for watching Batman Beyond. "How are you holding up?" "With a cane." - "I had a sudden case of shyness." - and "But my subconscious doesn't know that." have been among the funniest lines of the series so far. Bruce Wayne still continues to dominate the show. Of course, some of the parody material isn't bad either. What rival comic book company's superhero group _could_ the Terrific Trio based on? Hmmm...
