George “ROAD WARRIOR” Miller Is Directing JLA?!?
It’s 4:00 in the morning in LA as I type this, but I’m sitting in a sunshiney field in the middle of Narnia, watching minotaurs and centaurs and explosions and other assorted madness. God only knows how I’m getting wireless reception out here, but it’s giving me a chance to do a little browsing and to check out my e-mail while they set up the next shot.
Both Latino Review and Collider are reporting that George Miller is the director who has been tapped to step in and direct DC’s giant superhero team-up movie, JLA. Right now, this appears to be a rumor, but considering they both are reporting this from their own sources, it sounds like his name is definitely in the ether right now.
I would consider this exceptionally good news. Miller is one of the best action filmmakers alive, even if he doesn’t work nearly often enough. I got a chance to speak to him for the first time last year when he was promoting HAPPY FEET, and it sounds like he’s still completely engaged by the challenge of filmmaking, especially now that technology might allow him to realize some of the more outrageous things he envisions. He’s got a real knack for working with effects as well as shooting real-life stunts, and that combination sounds like the absolute best-case scenario for a director on JLA.
Collider claims that Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Green Lantern will all play major roles in the film, and that we can expect at least one big superhero death. I guess we’ll see how things pan out as this one continues to wind its way through development.

Again.
-
From the director of Babe 2 and Happy Feet, doesn't really inspire confidence.
-
Would rather see a new Max. Guess those days are long gone though.
-
Any news that Bale's Batman is going to be in this?
-
The black guy always dies first.
-
And will he give the pig a mohawk, spiked football pads, and assless chaps? THAT is the George Miller superhero we've all been waiting for.
-
Seriously, we can't have a JLA movie with Bale's Batman. It totally undermines the "realistic" setting and characters of BB and TDK if he's hanging around with sodding alien superheroes. And a Bale who's contractually obliged to appear in this film will be an unhappy Bale. DON'T DO IT.
-
...alas, there is a discernable difference.
-
On the other hand, I said that about Indy 4 also.
But this movie won't work without Roth as Supes and Bale as Bats. And I very much doubt that Christian Bale is interested in this kind of movie. Routh on the other hand would probably be up for it.
But no Aquaman? Damn, Adrien Grenier will be disappointed. -
When I see it. Seriously, how is this going to work. They're making a Batman film right now, Supes II looks like it has already been greenlit, and isn't Whedon making Wonder Woman.
-
Totally agree with you. This needs to stop now before DC kill off all of their movie franchises with this one film.
-
just wondering if this guy does live action anymore, i wonder if this thing is gonna be cgi?
-
He's quick. Can he do it? Maybe.
-
I just find this news to be extremely odd. This movie just screams Peter Jackson or even Nolan if he wanted to take it on. I agree to an extent with what's been said already that Bale's Batman would seem out of place here, but if played right, that's a benefit, because Batman was always such a malcontent with the JLA, and that would be a wonderful undercurrent of character development. You could tackle all of the great philosophical differences between Superman and Batman here. But, I agree, this movie is so difficult to do just right, and Miller's selection...while not terrible, just isn't inspiring to me at all, if it does indeed turn out to be his job
-
oooohhh boy, would it kick ass. HOWEVER, there seems to be the much greater possibility of failure with a project like this. And I have to agree, I'm not exactly excited with this potential director. I've never been a DC guy, but would welcome a great superhero team movie.I'll be approaching these (if made) with lowered expectations. After all, I've got Dark Knight and Iron Man to look forward too.
-
Superman 2 hasn't been given the greenlight yet.
Acording to Superherohype.com:
"I've also heard from sources that the "Justice League" film is more of a priority for WB than the sequel to "Superman," so don't be surprised if you see Brandon Routh in "Justice League" before any new "Superman" film."
-
I can say for sure that I never expected to hear his name attached to this movie...Miller has the ability to create great suspense and he can build strong characters - perhaps the technical experience he got working on "Happy Feet" will come in handy. However, like some others have said, this doesn't FEEL right, so I'll wait and see.
-
And not the George Miller who directed "The Neverending Story 2" and "Zeus & Roxanne"?
-
miller could make something great out of this.
-
If you didn't a JLA story in which the League basically had to win over Batman, and the classic storyline of Batman being prepared to defeat any and all of them, should that event ever present itself, you could do brief origins of each member we haven't seen yet in brief flashbacks, leading to other solo films if done properly. You can see Caine couseling Bale about his reluctance to work with these "freaks". Bruce-"These people, no matter how well intentioned, I'm not like them" Alfred-"Maybe that's the point Master Wayne." Batman-"What do you mean?" Alfred-"Well, maybe being different is the only way to accomplish the same goals."
I know, I know, fanboy fan-fiction from a 32 year old. But, I can't help but try to work out how this would look and not disappoint and taint the amazing franchise reboot we were given. Thoughts anybody? -
should have read if you DID a story...
-
Wow, a guy makes one kid friendly cgi movie and suddenly he's had a terrible career? Miller's got 2 of the best family movies in the last 25years(and Siskel having Babe2 as best picture of the year was no mistake IMO) a mainstream hit(Witches...) and a Oscar baiter(Lorenzo). You might not like that he didn't stick with apocalyptic flicks and the genres he explored, but he's far from a poor director.
-
Again, I'm not familiar with the mythology of these characters, but that sounds reasonable to me if Batman joins them very reluctantly. It would seem very weird to me to see Batman/Bale thrown in with other superheros, especially those that have superpowers, as opposed to Batman who is just a man and the established world he exists in.
-
He's my favorite. No other superhero can pull off an orange and green costume quite like he does.
-
as opposed to Batman who is just a man. Especially in light of the world that Nolan created for Batman to exist in, ie more realistic per se. What I wrote just doesn't make fucking sense...yeesh.
-
The basic mythology I'm thinking of, is, after being in the JLA for an extended period of time, as a founding member, Batman grew more and more disillusioned with the politics of the group, focusing more on HOW results were made as opposed to them just getting done. This ultimately led to his leaving the group to start his own group (the Outsiders) Since the age the JLA started was a simpler time in comic books, and more reminisent of a Superfriends type of Batman (cheerful, punny) from the late 70s.
So, I'm not suggesting the movie follow the storyline of Batman growing disillusioned, but starting out skeptical. But, there's so many things that can go wrong with a movie of this scope, but instead of complaining and not offering up possible solutions, I'm trying to stay optimistic, even if it's to keep me sane till this eventually gets made... -
Good luck to the rest of the superheroes who are going to be in this kiddy flick.
-
...since Tom Welling should be available after SMALLVILLE ends in 2008. Batman could be trickier, but hey, it's not like people aren't prepare to accept different actors as Batman.
Here's hoping Hal Jordan or Barry Allen is the Leaguer who dies, to be replaced by Kyle Rayner or Wally West respectively.
-
a cool director is being handed a superhero movie? Christ, the last time that happened was Tim Burton.
-
...that this "cool director" will have little to no respect for the source material, resulting in some steaming pile of shit.
-
If Miller gets the job and says in interviews later that he's always been a closest fan of the JLA, I'm calling bullshit.
-
Miller is a first class director. And it'll take a director with his cred to get great actors on board this movie. Also, what's with the Babe2 hate... it's an amazing fantasy-action-comedy, so what if it wasn't what people expected from a Babe sequel. But you're all right, a director with vision and integrity isn't right for this movie.
-
They should get A-list voice actors, spend an assload on the animation to make it look as comic book as possible, and go all-out with the storyline. I wouldn't be shocked if Green Lantern croaks... so we can see another Lantern in the sequel.
-
Watched Thunderdome the other night and like both Babe and Happy feet for diff reasons. He can obviously spin a yarn and mix state of the Art FX while competantly flinging the camera around so lets see...
-
Green Lantern movie trilogy comprising Emerald Dawn, Emerald Twilight and A New Dawn (and then maybe a fourth one, becuase trilogies never stop at 3 anymore, based on Rebirth). Logistics for a JLA movie (a good JLA movie) must be daunting. They haven't been able to move forward with Wonder Woman's or Flash's single movies, but they can do a movie with a team with all the big guns? As long as it's not like that tv pilot of the mid-90s.
-
This is a GOOD THING (assuming it's true, which I have strong doubts about). If the worst things on my resume were Babe 2 and Happy Feet, I'd be one self-satisfied motherfucker. Okay, it's been a while since he did action - but LOOK at what he did when he WAS doing it! And finally, he's Australian, a film director AND and he's a qualified doctor, so I am compelled to worship at his feet. Him and Rob Sitch.
-
as Wendy and Marvin? or are we gonna get the Wonder Twins in black leather?
-
Remember Seaman and Swallow? How do you kill a giant stone abraham lincoln? A giant stone John Wilkes Booth!
-
Clearly this is a better move than a new Superman movie for Routh. To allow this to move forward, have Batman in just briefly. A little at the beginning (attempted recruitment by Superman) and then a little at the end (swooping in to help after the rest of the team gets in over their heads). Rest of the team fills the middle. Lex can still be the main villian - but not if it involves a "land deal." Say, he and Brainiac "team up" and then he gets in over his head too as Brainiac wreaks havoc?
-
Tying this into the continuity of the current active franchises could be very tricky. A bit of comic book history for those not in the know: in 1965 DC comic the Flash was reimagined, the tone changed significantly as did the characters' personality and origin (much in the same way the Batman film franchise was recently reimagined). The book was a big hit and more titles took the reimagining route. This created problems. In titles such as the Justice Society of America (precursor to the Justice League), it was established all DC titles are set in the same universe. That would also mean one can't have Superman (who wasn't reimagined) and characters such as the Flash in the same stories anymore. To solve this, DC retconned the history of its books - in a Flash comic it was suddenly established all DC comics from the thirties to fifties are set in a different universe than the current comics: Earth 2. This also included titles such as Batman, Superman which were never reimagined. Thus, the so-called multiverse was born. In years to come DC would make its multiverse very complicated by creating more and more different versions of Earth, all existing within the same DC-universe and constantly interacting which each other. This eventually created continuity problems as even the writers became confused about which story had happened in which universe, with which version of the hero(es). This ultimately lead to the 'crisis on infinte earths' crossover story, whose sole purpose it was to destroy different versions of Earth, kill off a couple of (redundant) characters and merge all the multiverses in one Earth. This in turn created new continuity problems which had to be revisited a couple of times. I'm not saying these kinds of problems will arise with a movie version of JLA, but what to do when the Superman movie franchise needs to be reimagined in between sequels to JLA? Not a wise idea.
-
That begs the question, at what point does the movie begin: group already formed or some event forces them to band together? I would think that it would be an event/bad guy/disaster/ect that would force them to band together.
-
I mean Im all for Miller (although Peter Jackson seemed the natural choice) and Im a JLA fan but come on! Not a chance they'll get Bale involved (the entire JLA concept kind of craps on the realsitic vibe him and Chris Nolan are so keen on) and so would Warners be willing to have two Batmen storylines on the go (even if it is a mere cameo)? And what about Routh? Will they try to keep the individual franchises going while recasting Supes and Batman? And as we've learned that too many villains in a two and a half hour film is a problem, wont too many heroes (and they're subsequent villains)cause the same problems? and you cant cry "but we've seen the Justice League work on t.v and comics" cos we also had the Sinister Six ....but its been proven that once you have that many characters in a movie it goes slightly awry (although Im a Spidey 3 defender). However a good man for the ensemble work at least is Paul Thomas Anderson-but then again could he write or direct big action scenes as well?
-
Once all of the DC superheros have appeared together in one movie, how can the studio then go back to having them appear in their seperate franchises? After Christian Bale appears with Superman in The Justice League, will Batman 3 (the one after Dark Knight) then pretend that Superman doesn't exist? Or will Christian Bale be calling Superman on the batphone if he finds himself knee deep in it with the Riddler?
-
he can do the mega gritty action and hellbent weirdos like in Mad Max, he can do high-drama and comedy and magic like in Witches of Eastwick, he can even make pigs and penguins seem interesting, he's bloody perfect. CONGRATULATIONS to the studio people who are finally seeing the light.
-
Who say this film won't "work" without Brandon "My Career Went" Routh?? Do these geniuses THINK WB is going to let him lead ANOTHER superhero film into the ground? Expect a MAN to play Supes THIS time....
-
We hardly knew you.
-
Just a thought (from someone who never follwed non tv JLA), but they could treat the JLA like a Marvel Secret Wars/Men in Black deal, where there's a war going on outside of the public eye. The story could then move into space, etc. Nothing in BB negates Superman in that universe (who Batman would surely be aware of). Superman recruits Batman to the "secret war", where he meets the other super friends, I mean heroes. A point of comflict could be them distrusting Batman for not being superpowered ("What value can he add?") and Batman dealing with the freaks.
Moving the action away from Earth does let the more sci fi elements of JLA take place without hurting the "real" feel of Gotham.
Anyway.
-
I don't know how I feel about this. The recent Batman film was excellent, and the new one is shaping up to be even better.
I'm worried that this pot-luck type of film could dilute the recent Batman film. The cheese factor for the JLA movie is pretty high. Could it be good? Of course, but I'm skeptical about this one. It could very well be a trainwreck of a movie, where Warners just throws in as many high profile stars/characters as they can, and the result is an abortion of a film.
Why is Warners messing with a winning franchise? Anyone remember Alien vs Predator? How'd that turn out? -
If he agrees to direct this movie, then this worn-out genre finally got a step in right direction.

Moriarty, what does this mean for the SR Sequel?
by vondahliedbillionsdied
Or anyone? Do we have any idea wether the Superman Returns sequel will happen at this point? I loved what Singer did with Superman and I seriously can't wait to see what he has in store next, if WB has the balls to keep it going.

Pittdown Joey, comeon some of the best comic books have come from either europe or European writers/artists. And what does it matter that a directior isn't "American", the Harry Potter movie series is very British but it's best movie came from a non-brit in Curannow re: JLA movie, I mentioned this before, have some big threat, I suggested an ailen threat similar to what the anitmated premire had but if I remember corectly in the script TB, there was talk of OMAC and possibly talia Shire. Now if they go the Talia route, you're going to need Batman and they only Batman that people are going to think of is Bale right now, it depends on when this movie comes out compared to when TDK comes out, a couple of years later and it's going to make a difference, several years later and it won't be as big of deal.As others have suggested here, Bale/Bats could do a basically extended cameo, he appeartnnly loves the char and his work as Batman and as Robert Rodriquez said in the director's commentary to Spy Kids 2, most actors will come work for you for scale if you offer them something else in return, such as a short shooting period. If you have Bats at the beginning trying to get recruited by Supes, turning him down, a scene in the middle with Alfred weighing his decision, possibly watching the JLA get whooped on by whatever threat, then coming in at the end, saving their butts and helping them establish a base, not the orbiting space station but some kind of HQ, there you go probably a couple of weeks worth of work in what could potentially be a long shoot. And Routh isn't doing anything right now but supes as far as I know so he should be willing to signon. It would be a good introduction to char needing help getting thier respective films off the ground (WW and Flash)This is really screaming for a Bruce timm Paul Dini cooperation, WB don't give this to whatever writer is "hot" at the moment, give it to these 2 veterns who know how to handle it.
-
Waste of Miller's talents, totally ambivakent about a JLA film, pretty boring Superhero franchaise to develop. After the financial success of Happy Feet, I was hoping Miller would be able to get Max back on the road.
-
Thank you, my thoughts exactly.
-
you do realise Talia Shire is the girl from The Godfather and Rocky, where as you are thinking of Talia Al Ghul, right?
-
Not that there is anything wrong with that. He's kinda young for that stuff if it's true.
-
this movie anymore. Remember when he and his wife were hired to write this script? It seems that Hollywood liked their rewrite of that piece of shit movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Typical hollywood accounting. Millions of dollars for a director, stars, effects, and 3 bucks on the script.
-
Why no article on this, just went online today. Great Stuff!!
http://bventertainment.go.com/tv/buenavista/ebertandroeper/ -
Powers Boothe as Bats. Dwayne Johnson as Supes. Catherine Zeta-Jones as Wonder Woman...
-
Can't wait. I just hope they fight Darkseid or some villain/villains other than Lex Luthor.
-
CGI or reg. movie?
-
done by miller, would be one hellva movie. they could even break it up into 2-3 movies.
-
Yeah.
-
Cant believe all the whining here. Has nobody seen Mad Max? Or Nicholson and the girls in Witches? Even his kids movies are packed with talent and creativity. Most importantly the man is obviously a storyteller, and he must be one of the most successfully versatile directors existing.
If somebody is to attempt to make a superhero movie that has badass action and omnipotent characters, with a dramatic believable storyline, and at the same time fill it with amazing fantastical powers and happenings and keeping it all-audience friendly, Miller is one of the very few who can do it. Peter Jackson? i don't think he is up to it. -
Bats should appear only as a high-powered cameo. Beginning and end.
And I say even then Batman and Supes are in this only if it's completely tied in with the current Batman and Superman franchises.... Same actors, same costumes, same look and feel for each respective character.
If they go all sci-fi channel / small scale with this it should be boycotted. Do it massive or don't fuckin' do it. -
So many people have played Batman and Superman I don't think the public will be outraged or confused if different actors fill the tights. So long as they are good and right for the role.
-
if they HAVE to make this movie (I actually rather they wouldn't) it is the perfect springboard for Darkseid due to it being FAAR more Sci-Fi and "expanded Universe" in nature.....when (or apprently IF) The Man Of Steel goes into production I cant imagine Darkseid being a part of it-doesnt fit into the kind of universe Singer (or even Donner) created-hopefully, it'll be a Brainiac flick (Brainiacs exo-skeleton could also ironically make him a "man of steel"). However, JLA is pure over blown sci-fi territory (in a good way) so how they could go for anyone less than Darkseid is beyond me (cant see why they would bother with Lex-if we're doing that, then why not shove in the Joker, he's a more dangerous, interesting villain). Now I much prefer if they didnt bother, but it seems that the entire JLA idea is too out of touch with the current Supes and Batman flicks so they would have to recast and go for a different vibe. Which I cant imagine Warners bothering with....

be brave and do it with an "R". with Miller at the wheel and allowed to do total mayhem you would make trizillions...
-
name me a yank who could do this?
who the hell cares where they're from if they can do the job, are we living in the dark ages or something? -
George Miller better be doin' Road Warrior 2. Nuff said.
-
The outer space wonder twins will appear in this film! They will be played by Jason Biggs and Julia Stiles! The space monkey Gleek will be 100% GCI. "Shape of a Dildo, Form of Harry's Ass. Wonder Twin Powers Activate!"
-
I just can't see it happening.
-
Didn't the SMALLVILLE panel at Comic-Con state that the studios will not allow Batman to appear in any other franchise apart from his own movies? I would've thought this is applicable to the JLA franchise as well.
Oh ... and bring back Dean Cain as Superman !
-
DC movies has yet another trump over Marvel films, especially when it comes to an ensemble type of movie. Well, Marvel's X-Men films were OK, but just OK. They really blew it with Fantastic Four. SpiderMan3 was worse than Daredevil, Ghostrider, Elektra, and Punisher combined. Ok, Iron Man is looking really good. But a George Miller JLA film could be amazing. And need I mention Watchmen? (which I do believe is DC affiliated)
-
Sorry, someone had to bring him up.
-
Have all the heroes wear hoods and shades for their uniforms. It works great on the small screen.
-
Can u seriously imagine someone dressed as Wonder Woman in live action as a GOOD IDEA? And fighting along side with many other colored-costumed people? Oh my God. It´s "Batman and Robin" all over again... And things were going so well...
-
Really? What a stupid idea.
-
Come on--- That has to be it. They won't kill The Flash, Green Lantern, Batman, Wonder Woman, or Superman. Who's left? Aquaman, and the lesser-known Hawkman. Any other characters would be over the heads of the average viewers who aren't comic geeks.
Of course, who knows? D.C. might have Blue Beetle in there just to kill him again. -
with a LOST style budget-that way its easier to differentiate the characters from thier big screen counterparts...and Nice Marmot-yeah, Id like to see this go forward if only it were just to give Glover his moment to shine....
-
DC. Yawn.
-
That's what my money is on for the "Big Superhero Death" - although the "Death of Superman" is an option as well... might make a good motivation for the heroes to form the JLA in the first place...
-
This could go so wrong so easily because all of these heroes are so much huger than any other group of heroes ever assembled.
It could work though. You start with the team established and one of the heroes going out and bringing in a new member. So we'll see the whole thing through the eyes of a new member, be it cynical eyes like Batman's or eyes filled with wonderment like the Flash.
If they have to kill someone it'll be Barry or John Stewart. They have many built in replacements. -
I can't belive I did that, I knew what I was talking about and I have no idea why I typed in Talia Shire, I know that she's the chick from Rocky and Godfather, I feel like a total tool now...but here, lets blame it on a classicWHERE'S MY TALKBACK EDIT FEATUREok now that that's done back on subject...JLA..ummm yeah, can't think of anything I need to say that I haven't or others haven't already said
-
Green Lanterns are more disposable than Image Comics #1 issues. Ohhhhhh!!!!!
-
seriously if i see some bullshit lex luthor as the main villain ill shit a brick... im okay with doomsday... BUT DARKSEID FOR A FUCKING JLA IS WHERE ITS AT
-
Was, along with the Godfather Part II, Aliens, The Empire strikes back, etc. one of the greatest sequels ever made.
-
Sorry guys and gals, I just can't get interested in this one.
-
We'll get Lex Luthor or the Joker (the watered-down movie versions) or some other evil mastermind with no powers. They NEVER give us a DC movie with Darkseid, or Amazo, or any of the other bajillion super-powered villains in the DC universe. DC movies always cheap out on their villains.
-
As much as I like a good superhero yarn on the big screen, I think they are very hard to do well... Verisimilitude is a bitch!
I seem to recall reading on AICN a few months back that Batman would NOT appear in a JLA film. Can anyone confirm my memory of this or is old age setting in early? -
Let's not fucking kid ourselves here.
-
The more I beleive they will go cg/mocap with this. And yes, I would rather see Fury Road.
-
A few people have mentioned this, so I'm just latching on, but the best way to do this would be from ONE character's perspective. Give the audience someone to identify with, to tag travel along with on this adventure. I think a GREAT choice is Batman because he IS a regular guy thrust into extraordinary circumstances (i.e. why people like Die Hard and Indiana Jones). Batman not wanting to work with "the freaks" is a great idea. OR, make it one of the lesser knowns, possibly Flash. Someone who is shocked to be working with HIS heroes. Again, just how the audience would feel if they were hanging out with Superman, Batman, et al. If you try to do six origins and try to give every character equal time, it will fail. Too much story here. These characters are practically GODS and you have to make them believable to the audience. That's my idea, at least.
-
Happy Feet was utter, contrite shite. Unless you're on crack. Then it's delicious.
SPIN THE WHEEL, RAGGEDY MAN!! -
Well, Miller didn't actually direct "Babe", just the sequel. And both "Babe" and "Happy Feet" are very good movies. Kids movies, yes, but good movies nonetheless. I think the fact that Miller has such a diverse filmography (Mad Max Trilogy, Lorenzo's Oil, Witches of Eastwick, Twilight Zone: The Movie's 'Nightmare at 20,000 Feet', Babe 2, Happy Feet) bodes well for JLA if this proves to be true. It shows that Miller is able to work well in different genres. I think this fits in with the idea that "indie" directors tend to make the best big-budget studio films because they bring their indie sensibilities to the production (Nolan, Favreau, Raimi [Spidey 3 nonwithstanding], Jackson, Del Toro, et al.). Miller has directed some VERY successful films for WB (Mad Max Trilogy was distributed domestically by WB, Witches and Happy Feet were both WB flicks) before, so I think it makes sense. And let's not forget that Happy Feet was one of the best-reviewed movies last year, and The Road Warrior is considered by many to be one of the greatest action films ever made. If this works out, I think it will be fucking sweet.
-
Anyone know what other movies Miller directed ?
-
I can't believe no one else here has noted this. The AICN rumor was that the OMAC Project was one of the stories the JLA script was based on. As in Infinite Crisis.
A Crisis storyline + dead superhero = Flash
This would a very nice way to echo DC Comics history onscreen with the JLA movie setting up The Flash franchise to feature Wally West picking up the torch. -
See my post above.
-
I agree.
-
For the second half of 2007, it'll look like this is seriously getting made. Then everyone will stop talking about it and it'll disappear.
The only thing I can see that gives this a good chance of working is if WB is looking to do this truly INSTEAD of another Superman. And I think the next Superman is moving ahead faster. -
I think at this point they need to drop Singer and Man of Steel and just do this with Routh instead.
-
If you haven't had the chance to see the opening of Marvel Ultimate Alliance on either the XBOX360 or PS3 (on an HDTV), you have no idea what a GREAT comic team movie could be (in CGI).
http://www.marvelultimatealliance.com/pop_trailer.php?id=276
JLA could easily work in this fashion. I mean, just look at the new Beowulf trailer and you get an idea what could be acheived. -
Crisis, baby! I like the idea of Darkseid too, though.
-
Thanks. With Shawn Levy's Flash in development also, having a Flash die and pass the torch would be a perfect way to appease fans who complain the films don't echo the comics--and allow them to introduce Wally West and the legacy concept that Dick Grayson pioneered in the DCU.
Note that Nightwing is the one member Mark Verheiden confirmed as "IN" for the Teen Titans movie. And there is talk Grayson might appear in the 3rd Nolan Batman film.
I think Singer will get to make THE MAN OF STEEL (with Brainiac as the villain--count on that). -
superherohype says that this has higher priority than the next superman movie and that brandon routh would be superman in a jla movie.
-
While I tend to agree that cost-conscious WB is unlikely to greenlight both, oddly enough it seems that these days WB is actually getting more right than wrong with its DC properties these days. And no one is more shocked at that than me. Given the fact that WB had the Wachowskis do both MATRIX sequels back-to-back and the LOTR films were all filmed at the same time, well... it is not impossible to get both the JLA and THE MAN OF STEEL. I certainly hope so; I wanna see Singer give us Brainiac. ;^)
-
...is criminally UNDERrated. Watch it again with an eye for 'morality play', peppered with Hans Christian Andersen and old/good Terry Gilliam.
Seriously...it was bloody special...so this news makes me deliriously happy. -

Singer's version of Luthor isn't a good fit as villain
by sci_fi_wasabe
Superman Returns should have been a reboot with billionaire industrialist Lex Luthor as the foil. That Luthor would work in a JLA movie (as in the current comics), not the lame version Spacey played while Singer dry humped the Donner flick for over two hours. Hell, even Smallville used the corporate evil version instead of the criminal mastermind version. In addition to being Superman's big bad, he's also a better enemy for Batman too (kind of the anti-Wayne). I actually think Routh is fine and would have been better received if the movie had been an introduction to the new Supes instead of homage to movies of another era. I loved the two Donner flicks, but if they can restart Batman after only 8 years, then why not Superman after 19 years. I can't imagine this movie will happen though (at lease not with the current franchise participants). With Batman and Superman flicks rebooted at roughly the same time, they could have laid some groundwork for merging the worlds, but now it's a continuity nightmare. Now add Flash and Wonder Woman (both of whom have pending movies) and the problems worsen. Comic fans would be OK with an alternate cast JLA film (long as it didn't suck), but would it confuse the rest of the shmoes with a new Superman and Batman for a different franchise?
-
He's super wealthy and has major psychological and social problems. I mean I like the guy, but regular? Nope.
-
What the hell does that mean?
-
Remember that rumor? Don't get your hopes up, y'all.
-
"MAKE IT CUNT!" and that would be it, he better acknowledge the characters. How much would it suck if he did his own interpretations, obviously he will be forced to use Nolan's take on Batman which is a good thing, but then Singer's shitman and then he'll think Wonder Woman was a 70's tv show, and then green lantern as comedic. AHHHHHH This needs Peter Jackson.
-
A JLA movie will be as good as even the X-Men movies. You can't have a real JLA movie without Superman and Batman. Since Bale and Routh will never be in it its likelihood of sucking as much as Fantastic Four is pretty high. And just because Miller directed the Road Warrior doesn't mean he can pull it off.
-
you think Peter Jackson can't pull off JLA???? He fucking pulled off motherfucking LOTR one of the most unfilmable movies ever. JLA just needs cash and vision.
-
I still think the World's Finest movie would be more interesting and doable. I would also rather see separate film series for Wonder Woman and Green Lantern (geez, talk about a potentially kick-ass franchise that WB is just wasting away).
-
Yeah... that's long-gone, dead & buried. Nothing lasts forever. I think WB has turned a corner with how well WATCHMEN is turning out. An actual, for-real box office slugfest between DC and Marvel at movie theaters is my idea of the real Final Frontier. Bring it on.
-
you always make me laugh. majority of people think Bale IS Batman so fuck yourself.
-
I think a JLA movie done properly will have room for the Batman that Nolan and Bale are doing now. More so that the movie being grounded in reality, the whole point is that it's not cartoonish or silly, it's serious. Not a lot of stupid gadgets or different bat suits that they're only putting in there to sell action figures.
-
.. has just been announced for DVD release on Oct.9th, which really made me happy, as I've been a huge fan of Miller's segment, Nightmare at 20,000 Feet, ever since the movie came out in '83. That was one perfect little 20 minute film. In those days I would have considered him an easy peer with the likes of Spielberg. But other than Eastwick and Lorenzo, both classics, for all intents and purposes he pretty much disappeared after that.
-
WTF??? Babe a shitty movie? Only nominated for Best Picture, that's all. And Babe PITC stretches the bounds of being called a kiddie movie. It's pretty fucking dark, esp. Mickey Rooney as the sad clown and Steven Wright's Great Ape. Kid's movies my ass...I cry like a baby whenever I watch 'em. A kind and steady heart wins out every goddamned time! When Babe's mom is shuffled off to "Pig Paradise...a place so wonderful that no pig has ever returned..." hits me right in the gut every time. Kid's movie...Get the fuck outta here!
-
Some of you boys don't recognize when you got a good thing going. In case you haven't been paying attention, there is a new era coming where the studios prefer to give your beloved comic book "properties" to talentless hacks such as The Guy Who Did Grumpy Old Men, The Guy Who Did Taxi and The Guy Who Did Night At The Museum. This is because so far it works out better financially than the most recent time they gave it to The Guy Who Did The Usual Suspects and Apt Pupil.
Now they break the trend and (supposedly) give a movie to a visionary genius who has maintained his skills and continued to grow over three decades and that's NOT GOOD ENOUGH for you fuckers?
This is a guy with a wide range of talents. He has his low budget action classic (MAD MAX), one of the greatest sequels of all time (MAD MAX 2/ROAD WARRIOR), the respectable drama stemming from his past as a medical doctor (LORENZO'S OIL). True, the most recent things he's gotten going were kids movies, but he didn't do fucking UNDERDOG or BABY GENIUSES, we're talking very distinctive, crazy fucked up kids movies that only could've come out of his brain. The pig one traumatized a generation, the penguin one made Massawyrm almost jump out a window and prompted some classic hissy fits out of Michael Medved and Sean Hannity, who hilariously interpreted it as a gay recruiting film. And both of those movies have intense chase scenes that only the director of MAD MAX could've come up with. If he can get great action out of animals I'm pretty sure he can get it out of your silly cape wearing dudes you guys love.
I'll tell you what. You nerds stay home, I'll watch your movie for you. I just want to see a new George Miller movie. (I'd rather see Mad Max 4, but that was cancelled because of the Iraq war. Thanks alot Bush.) -
Seals, Penguins, Pigs......WTF?
Do you really think the man who gave us the Road Warrior is still in there? I have more hope for Slusho/1-18-08 vs Voltron than this. Oh yah, DC sucks...make mine Marvel!
-
Blame Bush because there was no Road Warrior 4? Yeah, I heard he had a hand in getting Singer out of X-men 3. Good Lord.
-
DC vs Marvel... at the movies? Sign me up.
And if WB actually gets this into production before Marvel's AVENGERS? DC vs Marvel will no longer be solely the province of comix shops. Then movie theaters will be the new battlefield for the Big Two's slugfest---and I live for that shit. -
Keep Tim Story, Bret Ratner, and Mark Steven Johnson the fuck away with anything to do with production.
-
i personally am partial to the belief in which this Jai Alai would make for a bad movie. it is not traditionally a sport in the same way in which baseball is. there have been many great baseball films such as the MAJOR LEAGUe franchise which has a very good percent on rotten tomatoes and is therefore greatly respected by many famous film scholars. i don't see how JAI ALAI (JLA) would make a good film because it is not traditionally sporting. i also peronally feel that frank miller is better suited for the medium of comic books...NOT sports.
-
Get Walter Hill or John Mctiernan (sp) for Punisher and we're set. Casting on this film along with super bad guys from all the rouges gallery's and you've got yourself a deal. I want to see Ryan Renolds as Flash and David Borenaz as Green Lantern.
-
It reminds me of the waste that was X3. Why not make a good superhero movie where the characters live on, just like 99.9% of the comic books? Killing off Superman or Batman is too much, kills their franchises and will never happen. Killing any of the rest of them would be a total abortion of a character before we really get to have fun with them. You can have lots of action, drama, and fun without killing off the characters.
-
Brilliant films, they deserved all the accolades they got, and the second one deserved to be a huge hit at the box office, it's a shame it hasn't been seen more.
-
If you don't think this director has a handle on dark vision, good scripting, great sets, pacing, style & substance, you're out of your fucking gourds. Do you WANT neon jets and rubber nipple suits? Cuz we can do a write-in campaign for Schumacher if you want. Personally, I'd prefer a genius with real vision who isn't afraid to torture animals in a kids' flick.
-
That could work. Otherwise, it's gonna be hard to make the audience care about the death of a character who's first introduced in the JLA movie, given the limited screen time a super-ensemble will necessitate. I could also see it being Barry Allen though - Flashes are good everymen. Everymanses?
-
I guess there's an infinite amount of GL's. So killing him would not be destroying a character before it had reached it's full potential as much as a pandering exercise in emotional manipulation.

Say what you hatahs will about George Miller, but Babe: Pig in the City is an awesome movie on SO MANY LEVELS, and Road Warrior and Mad Max are pretty damn classic at that. Sorry, but Nolan isn't even half the action director that Miller is. Just what was so memorable about the action in Batman Retreads? What, you want Singer to direct after the action-packed adventures of Superman Returns After Five Years of Yarking Off in A Space Pod to Stalk Lois Lane? And what do you get with Peter Jackson, honostly, people swinging around on T-Rexes, giant bugs being shot off of people with machine guns, and a wayyyyy too much monkey-business. The only better old-school action director than Miller working today is Tarantino.
-

And you know it. As for DC vs. Marvel, Marvel wins comic-wise. Movie-adaptions wise, they loose big time. I'm still waiting for an official excuse for Spidey 3.
-
I hope it will be either Green Lantern or Flash. Although, since I haven't forgiven Superman for his Returns flick, I would love to see him suffer a slow, cruel death. That would teach him not to mess around.
-
Go forward with it. This guy has had hits in alot of different genres. He is a risk taker. He makes good drama.
-
Then, you lost me at Lorenzo's Oil.

I hope for some reason this turns out being animated...
by transmetropolitan
and it is the JLA: A New Legion adaptation that was rumored. What a great two graphic novels, if you haven't read them please do. Or Earth 2 by Grant Morrison, hilariously awesome, do this animated! It would stop any conflicts with the live action series of Supes and Bats.
-
again, great story
-
...will make a shitload more than a sequel to Superman Returns, which was regarded as a critical and financial failure. I liked it and understood what Singer tried to do, but it didn't work for the masses. Thus, it makes FAR more sense to save their precious Superman icon with a kid-friendly, action-paced ensemble epic a la the successful Fantastic Four films. There is NO accounting for taste in Hollywood and this is a smarter business move. The JLA movie will suck and then Singer will never be allowed to make the epic sequel he most definitely has the talent to create, but that's show business.
-
A New Frontier, that was the name of it!
-
Just Walk Away!!!
Lord Humungeous for Martain Manhunter
Very good news!!!!! -

Nevermind, I guess the A New Frontier animated is...
by transmetropolitan
a seperate project and a straight to DVD release... fuck it what a waste of posts.

And Dick, and what ever else got near it.
If you want to see how to make a kick ass animate CGI movie, watch the "Incredibles".
You know, little things like plot, character development, and GASP!, pacing! Any film that be plasted with top 40 pop songs every 5 minutes to entertain is very confident in its story. Fuck, Over the Hedge was better that Happy Feet. Go SLUSHO GO! -
Tarantino is just ripping off 30-40 year old movies and fills them with overlong nonsense-dialogue. But I 100% agree with you on Babe 2!
-
Saying Happy Feet is bad because it isn't as good as Incredibles (or Shrek 2 or Toy Story 2) is like saying Casino Royale sucks because it isn't as good as Aliens or Terminator 2 or The Road Warrior...you're comparing a good cg animated film with, perhaps, the BEST cg animated film ever. I agree, Happy Feet wasn't as good as some of the better Pixar offerings, but that doesn't mean it's a terible movie. It's a fun movie, people. Jesus. Lighten up. Over the Hedge was NOT better, and Miller is a very good director. Like Vern says, just because he has CHOSEN to make a few kids movies doesn't mean he has forgotten how to make a kickass action movie.
-
I hear you, but QT works as a true action director because he rips it all off in such style and with the greatest respect for the originals. Props should also be given to pre-ADD-Spider-Man Raimi, Cohen Brothers, and Jeunet, but it could also be said that George Miller showed them the way. Seriously, though, Babe 2 is a pig-roasting masterpiece.
-
I think as long as it isn't made into a cheeseball movie, it has potential. If Routh and Bale do not commit to it, I would be fine with a replacement, but I think if they truly work things out, they will be in. The Justice League cartoons were geared towards adults and I liked them a lot, so I think they can pull off a live action movie without issues. It just needs to be long enough to make it detailed...not a 1hr 15minute FF2 running time. It definitely needs some epic'ness' to it though, so bring on a Darkseid story line or something like that.
-
Are you ficking kidding me? The shithead couldn't even make an "epic" FIRST movie, with a HUGE budget no less! Man, these Singertologists must live outside of reality or something. Well, I DO know they make-up their own plot points to "explain" the bore-fest BS aborted into cinemas last year....
-
Mr. Miller I am a fan of a few of your films. I especially liked THE ROAD WARRIOR, particuliarly the part where Mad Max 2 acted like he didn't care but you know deep down he did. I hear you are going to be making a movie about a gay superhero team or something. A lot of dudes who can't get laid are excited. WHAT ARE YOU DOING? STOP THIS TOMFOOLERY AND MAKE MAD MAX 4: FURY FUCKING ROAD. AND GET RAY STEVENSON TO PLAY MAD MAX 4- BUT ONLY IF VINNIE JONES TURNS YOU DOWN. You can save money by filming the fucking thing in Texas. If you need some car chases just film he border patrol flipping over SUVs at 90 miles an hour. Shit's intense. Thanks for your time Sir!
-
Don't we need to see GL, WW, and Flash in their own movies first?
-
Not even a question about it. Dude can run fast. See ya.
-
movies that over play pop songs every 5 minutes. it is cheap gimmic to fill up space, and an excuse not to have a real score. They same holds true in live action movies. "Cobra" set the record for music montages
-
It did indeed beat the shit out of Happy Feet.
-
...how can you possibly reconcile the universe of Superman Returns - with its camp Lex Luthor and Kitty Kowalski double act, not to mention Art Deco retro production design - with the urban, gritty, "real-world" Batman Begins universe. Can't be done. And that's before you even think about introducing the Flash and Green Lantern to the film, much less Wonder Woman and her star-spangled pants.
It's particularly galling because Bale has invested a great deal of time and effort in crafting this realistic Batman universe along with Nolan - and the reason he's doing the Batman films at all is because he saw in Nolan the potential for doing a grounded, real-world Batman. Which will be pissed away when they drag him away to do a JLA film with bloody Darkseid in it - and force him to work for another director. -
Is that still in the works?
-
Think about the budget required for this sort of thing, especially if there are going to be giant battles (which we'd all want to see and WB knows would get asses into the theatre). And while I'm not particularly fond of Nolan's Batman universe, I don't think it would work too well with a Justice League world. If it was cg, animated (maybe even mo-capped, when all the kinks in the system are worked out), it could be done, but with a live-action cast and real locations? The budget would be ridiculous. The film would have to do Titanic-like business to make a decent profit.
-
They can use this movie to dump the pathetic soap opera baggage of Superman Returns via Superman being captured / brainwashed /made to believe the events in SR happened. Batman et all come in and rescue him and bingo - a new movie franchise with the JLA, and Superman is re booted at the same time.
-
richfinshu2 should write the screenplay.
-
According to iseb.net (http://tinyurl.com/2oqanh), Miller isn't the only director being courted by WB, they're also pursuing McG (that is, Joseph McGinty Nichol) who left us with the classic, "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle." God no. Miller seems a good bet, I don't doubt his directing chops at all.
-
Tina Turner as Darkseid...in Thunderdome!
-
It's Lensmen and Star Wars people!!! It's not a super hero movie, it's an ensemble space opera sci-fi epic with tons of characters, awesome villains and a galactic scope! Parallax, Sinestro, Star Sapphire, the Man Hunters, it could be terrific!!! It's the Star Wars prequels universe only good! No living in the shadow of a better trilogy! Why the hell has WB not gotten this yet? Get this made before a Silver Surfer movie happens and shows us what cgi-super beings flying through space looks like!! Instead, they give us lame-ass Jack Black rumors like this was the Mask or something silly. I know it's the color green and the color yellow signifies something dangerous, but fuck, look how much power colors have had in M. Night Shaymalan's movies (the good ones)! Hell, Sam Jackson would basically be Mace Winu all over again if he played John Stewart, just no purple and he wouldn't be dead at the end....oh wait, yeah he would, because the suckers in charge like to kill people off. Okay fine, fuck it. I liked it better when they didn't kill off my heroes in every movie. Hal, Kyle, Guy, John, Emerald, Kilawogg...some day you'll be in a great movie.
-
but Batman have been properly developed by themselves, let alone for a team film. It can easily, EASILY come off like a bunch of dumbasses sitting around in tight costumes in the middle of outer space.
-
That guy's AMAZING!!! And here I thought he only caused major hurricanes, bridges to collapse, SIDS and the bird flu.Maybe they can cast him as Major Disaster in the film!Apparently, Vern's an even bigger idiot than I thought...
-
“We were about three months off shooting when the Iraqi war came and the American dollar collapsed against the Australian dollar so we lost our budget. Also, we couldn’t get the container ships out because of security and stuff.” http://tinyurl.com/2nbybm So no, not literally did Bush state "though shall not have a Max", but financially war tends to fuck up a lot of financials and industries that you wouldn't even think to connect.
-
I don't care how they do it, I just want a fucking JLA movie.
-
he made a good TLOTR, true, but with some glaring mistakes. Not to mention King Kong. He makes these giant, remarkable efforts, well cast, well designed, but then he messes them up by suddenly going goofy or gory, or unloading some over the top special effect masturbation, and just kills the atmosphere he had going. I can see him doing better with a smaller and darker thing like Lovely Bones, but something as complex as JLA he would make an embarrassing mess(i) out of. Miller is perfect for this.
-
as well as refusing to protect the ecological future of our planet, and stirring up hatred worldwide, and robbing the poor to make the rich richer, he has all this on his shoulders and so do all you morons who voted for him.
it is not Vern who is the stupid one. -
just to piss you geeks off id put money on it that we're going to get an asian wonder woman (ie lucy lu) a mexican green lantern (george lopez) a black superman (50 cent) a native/aboriginal Batman (pocahontas) and a russian flash (Vladmir putin)
-
flash putin
-
Go for older characters
-
"I would seriously rather see George Clooney as Batman than Christian Bale in this. Why? Because I just don't feel Nolan's universe allows heroes with 'super-powers' in it."
Yeah, I can kind of agree with that. Anyways, looking forward to Green Lantern being brought to the silver screen in a quality way. -
..its the end of the superhero flick era. Like...the giant blimp that exploded in Lakehurst was for Air ships. I need a Girlfriend.
-
My concern is that this film will suffer from BATMAN FOREVER syndrome. Too many characters vying for camera time means less emotional development equals a loud, over-stuffed and empty film (Phantom Menace esp). Just dealing with the exposition of how these characters originate and form the JLA would require a monumentally long film. Its not like the X-Men who evolved as a collective. BTW I would love to see a Secret Society of Supervillans film with Gorilla Grodd and Braniac but the word of film is not the world of saturday morning cartoons.
-
Isnt this site about critique and conjecture? I've seen Harry and Moriarty tear new assholes on many of the great cinematic figures of our time, so Im not sure why talkbackers are held to a different standard in terms of voicing an opinion.
-
Thanks to the two people who backed me up on that. Mad Max 4 was about to start filming in Africa, with Mel Gibson and everything, when Bush's boner for invading Iraq caused the currency rates to change and destroyed the budget. I believe they also said they were afraid to film in Africa for security reasons once the war started. At first they said they were only postponing it but of course that was years ago, everybody moved on and now they say the window for Mel Gibson has passed and he won't ever want to do it again.
So yes, it's a historical fact, along with all the more significant stuff, Bush also killed Mad Max 4. That's how deep his claws go into fucking up everything in the god damn world.
Now, I know we are all gentlemen here so I'm positive that "The Bloop" and "TheGhostWhoLurks" will be clamoring to write heartfelt apologies admitting their ignorance and confessing that it was rude, perhaps asinine to call me an idiot for correctly stating historical facts. Thanks fellas but rather than an apology I would accept you doing some sort of charity work or doing something nice for an elderly neighbor or something like that. Or you can apologize, whichever is more convenient for you. Let me know guys, thanks.
Oh yeah, and Garbageman: I have to admit I never saw LORENZO'S OIL. But I believe Moriarty said it was good on that best of the '90s list he started that one time. When he finishes it up we can ask him for more details in the talkback. -
We would have Nicholas Cage as Superman, by way of Tim Burton. And Haley Joel Osment as Harry Potter by way of Spielberg. Take a stand MoFo's, its your money that makes up teir paychecks. Even the greats can be wrong.
-
Sorry, but it was J. K. Rowling who would have done the bitching. She refused to turn over the project unless they kept it english actor based.Anyways, enough from me here as I have lil' interest in JLA, only interested due to the Miller headline. In all seriousness though, those of you who wrote off Pig in the City without watching it should really give it a chance as you're missing out on one of the best movies of the 90s.
-
I don't (gunshot) care about this (gunshot) JLA flick.
-
I love unconventional choices and im looking forward to Heath Leger in DK, but as an American of Italian decent, and a fan of his work in moonstruck, Cage's features are far too ethnic and I think he would've looked profoundly silly in the costume. Just my opinion. But I think its safe to say that we WERE stung by Burton's kitchy style when it imbrued Planet of the Apes. He is unique, but I fear he wouldn't have taken the material seriously(planet of the apes).
-
Point taken, but when the film rights were first sold, I recall the outcry from fans, who even then wanted unknowns, when certain high proflie names were being tossed about. My point is, critcizing legends shouldn't be taboo, because they are not infallible.
-
As for the risible notion of casting Vinnie Jones, he's got all the acting prowess of a card standee, his stock in trade of thugs and east end heavies would at the most get land him a cameo as a Wasteland marauder. I prey that Miller eventually secures some financing for Fury Road, enough to not have to make any compromises and give the fan base the film it deserves (Mad Max 2/Road Warrior as the bar to surpass, cinematic perfection!).
-
cause you know that someone can't pimp slap your punk ass. Tell these fookers what time it is Vern.
-
George "Happy Feet" Miller?
-
both of you can suck my wang because if there was a poll out of which director people would want to helm JLA, Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg would come out on top. You guys think you're eccentric opinions are supposed fact. Truth is Jackson would nail JLA and the masses would enjoy it.
-
If this exists in a different timeline than Superman Returns, perfect opportunity to let another actor take a crack at it. I nominate Welling.
-
trust me.
-
that doesn't mean it's a for sure it'll be animated. personally i think the animated idea works alot better logistically, if its cgi/animated that way your not steping on any of the individual franchises toes, and you can cast who ever you want and make the costumes how ever you want because redneck americans won't get confused. However if they are going animated i saw go with realistic designs, not of this TMNT hookwinked crap, go more beouworlf or even as cartoony as the incredibles.
-
for Christsake people-the movie wont happen anyway, but you cant diss George Miller and ridicule him for doing (kinda scary) kids films! he created Mad Max for Christs sake-or have you forgotten!!? He would probabaly turn out a good film-I just wish he was iven a different superhero property cos I dont think this will happen.....
-
After seeing Superman Returns I regret that decision.
This JLA movie could be the beginning of something awesome. We should reserve judgment until we have more information. -
better they be "eccentric" than inexistent. but if you have an argument for why jakcson would be better lets hear it. i loved LOTR but hated parts of it. King Kong was awesome but also pitiful and laughable.
-
http://www.marvelultimatealliance.com/pop_trailer.php?id=276
-
jackson handled all the characters giving them enough screentime to make a mark in people's heads. he would be able to handle the big 7, giving each enough time and making them useful and memorable. Bang. Fuck you.
-
"realistic" I'd say more like versimilitude since there are still fantastical elements in Batman Begins. Batman is fantastical by nature even though he's toned down and more gritty than his peers. It doesn't mean he can't co-exist in the same world with them.
As for Bale's involvement when asked about JLA recently this is what he said
"It's like I was saying to Chris [Nolan] -- I'll be probably doing this in dinner theater somewhere in my 50s, so I won't knock it. Because who knows where I'll end up?"
I think he's very grateful to be Batman in the first place. Also he's contracted for 3 Batman movies and you know he'll do a third Nolan Batman film regardless. It'd be easy for him to fulfill his contract with JLA. Not saying that will happen just saying it's not as impossible as some of you guys think. -
on the silver screen is fine with me. Hopefully this will showcase a man of steel everyone wants to see.
ttp://tinyurl.com/2gunhz
-
can't argue without insulting, whats that about? don't take it so personal. yes, jackson probably would give the characters screentime, he would probably handle their backstories decently without spending too much time on it. he would probably make their suits and the sets look good. but he would also add some comic relief dwarves and some fake stampeding dinosaurs and some head-chewing maggots and other ridiculous stuff.
and waste time on unrealistic special effects costing a fortune. -
Not sure how I ended up on your short-list, buddy, but, er... I'll pass on the invite. But, hey, I don't hate Jackson, how could I? FORGOTTEN SILVER, among others, is awesome. Like pipergates, I just think he's kind of losing his ability to rein it in. Stephen "Phone-it-in" Spielberg is another story.
-
But you're really full of crap. If they didn't want to film in Africa because they were "scared," they could have changed shooting locales to the California desert, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, or any number of other (and probably cheaper) post-apocalyptic locations to shoot Mad Max 4. Blaming Bush for the "inconvenience" of the Iraq War screwing up their brilliant plans for a third sequel is nothing more than a childish copout. So no, it's NOT a historical fact, simply a simple-minded cheapshot to say that Bush killed Mad Max 4.Now, I know we are all gentlemen here, so I'm positive that Vern will be clamoring to write a heartfelt apology admitting that his ignorance and rabid hatred of Bush caused him to make rude and asinine statements and try to pass them off as historical facts. But that might damage with his edgy-nerd AICN cred, so I won't hold my breath waiting.
-
Which part are you even arguing with here? I get the sense you might be a Bush supporter and if so I'm sure taking up hilariously indefensible positions is part of your daily routine, but you're not making sense here. FACT: Mad Max 4 was canceled, by all reports, due to circumstances created by the Iraq war. FACT: Bush was the president at the time of the Iraq war. That is how I came upon him as responsible party.
Obviously there are hundreds of worse things to blame Bush for, but the fact that you can also legitimately blame him for there not being a Mad Max 4 is funny to me. So I said it.
I don't know why my throwaway joke upset you, but if what you're saying is that they should have re-budgeted and shot it somewhere else then HELL YEAH, I feel your pain bud. I just wish you had been there at the time to convince those WB hotshots. Anyway sorry to set you off bud. I don't think you have earned my forgiveness in a secular way but I prefer the Jesus method so I forgive you for calling me an idiot for no reason and then refusing to apologize and continuing to insult me even though you know you are wrong. All is forgiven Ghost, thanks bud. -
Apology accepted. And you're not an idiot. Merely prone to making idiotic statements from time to time, like the rest of us.Personally, I blame Clinton.
-
Finally someone that agrees with the disagree :)I indeed share your views that each project is separate and just because the past was solid does not equal the same present. No one is without faults. My main issue in the talkback was the attack on the very solid past rather than the hopefully good future. Also the boasting of the current trend(P.J.) without evaluating his past beyond LOTRAnd apologies as its almost 3am on a Sat morning so I'm sure I'm writing only partial supports and meanings, but hopefully you get me drift. We may seem to be stating different things, but I think we are actually looking for the same results/response.

OK so this is my first time posting. For all you people that are saying they can not make this film until all the characters have their own origin stories told, Get a life. If you don't know who the Flash, Wonder Woman, or Green Lantern are then you obviously are not a fan of this genre. The movie industry does not owe anyone anything and can green light any film that they choose to. They also do not have to cover any origin stories in a JLA film. Who cares about how Aquaman became Aquaman or how Green Lantern got the ring. If they choose to go another route so be it. Also, who cares what your feelings are on who will direct it. No one cares about your input. If you are not going to go see a film because of the director may God have mercy on your soul. Everyone knows that when this film arrives ALL you people that are whining about stupid minute things will be there with your Superman underoos on, money in hand, and capes on your back. You will all sit there and find every single flaw in the film (some of you taking meticulous notes) just so you can come back on here and whine some more. While you are doing that, I will be sitting in the theater enjoying a movie just to go home and get laid by my girlfriend. The next day, we will sit back and laugh at all of you. Take care and have a great day.

after New Frontier hits DVD, any live-action attempt will look like a bad SNL sketch...unless we get a bunch of Oscar winners or nominees in a KINGDOM COME-size epic...Anthony Hopkins as Batman, Monica Belluci as Wonder Woman, etc., etc.

I thought you had a sense of humor. Man was i ever wrong about that.
