Harry & Yoko head to Fort Knox with GOLDFINGER and memories of NORTH BY NORTHWEST at Mt Rushmore! NOW WITH VIDEO!!!

Published at:  Aug 02, 2007 8:01:03 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... ya know - people ask me - why do the Rolling Roadshow?

It's an incredibly expensive trip to see a bunch of movies... but it's so much more than that. Yoko and I are halfway through this trip. We've seen a wedding performed by the man that performed it in FANDANGO in the Gazebo from the film. It took us to Las Vegas & Zumanity. Then to lunch with Stallone & Arnold. Then that same night, to cocktails with Ron Jeremy in the tackiest Armenian joint ever. Then to Disneyland. On to Santa Cruz and it's 100 year boardwalk with 4000 LOST BOYS fans, then through Redwood National Forest by way of Highway 1 and the Pacific Ocean. Then to Crater Lake - and finally across the bridge to "Castle Rock" from STAND BY ME - then through Yellowstone and Old Faithful ejaculating and the stunning BIG HORN NATIONAL PARK and the Crazy Horse Memorial- and now... I've just seen the only screening in history of NORTH BY NORTHWEST at MT RUSHMORE! Hearing Bernard Herrmann's score in full booming surround sound with the majestic backdrop of Mt Rushmore... it was... beyond breathtaking. Then we stayed in the Alex Johnson Hotel (the hotel that Cary Grant was supposed to be staying in Rapid City, SD... but never made it to in the film. It's pretty awesome, btw.

Now - we're on our way to Fort Knox... to see GOLDFINGER with the troops - with the Gold Depository Building as our backdrop. Can you imagine? And on the way, we eat an Omaha steak and sleep with the St Louis Arch out our window. I've met quite a few of you along the road and look forward to the rest. If you can make it to Fort Knox - I'll see you there!

you and your missus a great big congrats! Would be great to meet you there at the after party. We Kentuckians have always held a special place in our hearts for Goldfinger for obvious reasons! Even if Ft. Knox doesn't really contain any gold and is just there as a front to draw attention...we still love to think of the last 45 minutes of the film showing the good ol' Bluegrass! See ya there Harry!

I have been through it twice. It has over 30 Tanks inside and a huge room of General Patton items. It is well worth your time and the price is sweet. It is FREE to the public. You can take a virtual tour on-line at [generalpatton .org]

Bored wife. If you have a wife that hates to travel, meet famous people, stay in awesome hotels, eat great food - and hates Vegas shows - then you are probably either miserable or single.

    by coffeeandcinema

Tinseltown Terror, I live in the real world and work a real job as well. But we had a few days of vacation time to burn, so my husband and I made the 8 hour drive to Mount Rushmore from Colorado to see North by Northwest. Sometimes it's okay to take a couple days off from responsibility. :-) When I have more time maybe I'll put some of my photos online.

    HITCHCOCKIAN REFERENCE

    by filmgenius

my problems are boundless with this post. first and foremost, i must correct a most destructive err on behalf of the person whom used the NORTH BY NORTHWEST and GOLDFINGER references. first of all, GOLDFINGER is not a respected film amongst film scholars. film. second of all, neither of these films featured the truly real fort knox. they were mere sets. i know most of you haven't gone to film school, but i'm going to let all you in on a small tiny secret...movies use sets. that means in the before mentioned films, fort knox wasn't featured. only set replications of fort knox were featured. in a word: duh.

Mt Rushmore cafeteria looks just like the movie still

    by alfred_packer

Last time I was there (about 5 years ago) I was stunned at how much the cafeteria at the Visitor's center looked exactly like the one in the movie. That may have been a soundstage too, when (SPOILER) Eve Marie Saint shoots Cary Grant in front of Bela Lugosi and James Mason, but man it was cool.

Yes, there are plenty of rednecks in Kentucky...

    by kentucky colonel

Alongside the likes of Johnny Depp, George Clooney, Hunter S. Thompson, Dianne Sawyer, Colonel Harland Sanders, the guys of My Morning Jacket, Denny Crum (naturalized from LA), Milt "The Stilt" Wagner, Fuzzy Zoeller, Foster Brooks, Mitch McConnell (though I disavowed him back in the late 70's), Zachary Taylor and four of my favorites Booker Noe (aka Jim Beam),Bill Samuels IV (aka Maker's Mark), Muhammad Ali and Abraham Lincoln. Not bad company to keep. The Patton Museum is indeed very cool and right on the grounds of Ft. Knox. My Grandfather's picture hangs in the Louisville Slugger Museum 25 minutes north on I-65...he made baseball bats for 27 years. Every big name in the game from 1950 to 1977 swung one of my Pa Paw's bats (he made the "custom" bats and he had a hand in creating the black finish aka "The Smith Dip" used ONLY on pro bats). He's probably my favorite Kentuckian...even though he came from Chatty-noogie.

    SK229, re: your first post

    by daddylonghead

Don't worry, there is a name for with what you're experiencing; it's called "player-hating," as in, you're player-hating. The only cure is to cold-turkey quit hating, immediately desist from drinking any haterade whatsoever, and also to direct your hate not towards the player but rather towards the game itself.

I hope this advice can help you overcome your tragic condition!
And dude, if you're jealous of Mori, I don't know what to say. I mean, I am not especially a fan of his, but as far as I know he is pretty much an overworked family man busting his ass trying to make it in Hollywood... while being a "new dad." I personally wouldn't trade places with him, I get an ulcer even thinking about it. Are you jealous of his huge DVD collection? Sure he got to work with Carpenter and has done some other cool stuff, but it's not like he's coasting and living large; to the contrary Mori seems like he's uptight from over-pressure.

    SK229, re: The Shining

    by coffeeandcinema

The Shining show last year was at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. It's the haunted hotel inspired the story and that Stephen King stayed at when he wrote The Shining. They would have filmed the movie there but the inside is fairly nice and didn't have quite the "slightly creepy" look to it that the producers wanted. So even though it's not the hotel in you see in the movie it does have a lot to do with it.

I love the very idea of the Roadshow

    by grendy

In Atlanta we have Screen on the Green, Summer Movies at the Fox Theatre and even Georgia Tech is doing outdoor movies on the cement on Wednesdays. I don't often get to go to them because of my schedule, but I will say, seeing Fellowship of the Ring in a theatre with 5000 people at the Fox was amazing. Not as good, perhaps as the BNAT experience, but so cool. You have a completely like-minded crowd to see something. The odds of annoying-ass cell phone calls or crying kids is practically nil... I can't wait for Harry and Tim and Yoko and Karrie to show up in my town and show some movies to us all. I will be driving to the Deliverance showing, and seeing the Burt-A-Thon (just re-watched Smokey and the Bandit last night, matter of fact) here at the Starlight Drive-In. I love that Atlanta has a 6 screen drive in that is well attended here. I will also be doing the Scavanger Hunt, and driving to Texas to win my Trans Am. My team and I will be sharing it, a week of driving at a time. I can't effin' wait! It's about 2 weeks out. I am looking at hotel rooms, routes, and planning what to take. This is an sweet way to spend a couple of days driving with friends, seeing the countryside, and a movie with people who will soon be your friends. And, later, having some kick-ass stories to tell. For all those jerks out there trying to rain on this parade of awesome... get stuffed. Don't read the articles. Change the channel. I have met Harry on a number of occasions, and I have never seen his 'fame' go to his head. He's a genuinely nice guy who loves this stuff. Why is that bad? And since he's found his awesome partner to share his life with, how is THAT bad? Some of you guys are just jackasses. I'll see you in Atlanta, Big Red!

And it was pretty flippin' awesome when the film got to Kentucky and then Fort Knox to be there and have just driven by the gold vault on the way in! Nice! I got the poster to commemorate it for a sweet price after the show. Was cool to give you congrats on your nuptials in person! I was the guy in the CTU shirt hahaha (yeah yeah....still a Jack Bauer acolyte even after season 6). HOpe you get thru here sometime again! I'm out!

Nice to meet you too. And yeah, I'm obese and have reddish hair (though it's definitely more brown), but I'm kinda proud to look like one of the coolest geeks out there.

If you don't like Harry, that's your call, dude, but come on... insulting us on a forum is a little lame, don't you think?
