A live action JACK AND THE BEANSTALK movie featuring Darth Vader as the Giant?

Published at:  Aug 01, 2007 1:16:50 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Now, this could probably be the lamest thing ever, but once again it's a project with a couple interesting people involved in it.

This production company, Avalon Production Company, is making a series of low-budget kids movies and they're starting out with a live-action JACK AND THE BEANSTALK movie. Katey Segal (Peggy Bundy herself) will play Jack's mother, PRINCESS BRIDE's Wallace Shawn is the crazy bastard that sells the magic beans to Jack, Gilbert Gottfried will voice the goose, Chevy Chase will earn another check in a cameo as the keeper of the labyrinth that leads to the Giant's castle and James Earl Jones is in negotiations to play the voice of the Giant. Christopher Lloyd plays the headmaster at Jack's school... also attended, in a SHREK-ish turn of events, by other fantasy characters, like Repunzel and Prince Charming.

Yeah, it'll most likely be original children's cable quality, but I'd love to see Chevy Chase in a funny movie again...

    Chevy Chase is a prince.

    by bungion boy

The man is hilarious. I feel bad because he's fallen on hard times. He's no longer a leading man. They don't make the kinds of comedies he used to star in anymore. I really wish he would do more supporting work in quality indie comedies. I thought he was hilarious in "Ellie Parker." I'll always love Mr. Chase and will always be rooting for him. He's made some great, great films. Also several very good films. And then, yes, some pretty bad films. But who hasn't. I forgive him. PS The rest of the cast for this is pretty good too. Much of what I just said for Chevy can be said for Chris Lloyd too.Doesn't mean this film will be good though.

I'd like Chevy to pull his shit together

    by quinntheeskimo

But I doubt this is the movie to do it in. Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, Chevy Chase, what happened to you guys?Thank God for Bill Murray, a shining ray of hope for aged comedic actors and proof that your career doesn't have to go stale. Sure, he seems to enjoy slumming between Wes Anderson films (Garfield), but when he's on, he's on. Bill, go talk to Chevy. Please.

It's been YEARS since that guy had a movie in general and even longer since he had a funny one. I've always been a fan and yeah I even liked his late night talk show.

Damn. Thought it was going to be Dave Prowse.

    by king_knut

Having met the man recently, and seen him in some giant-esque wardrobe, I reckon he would have made a fucking awesome Giant.

This sounds more like an ABC Afterschool Special...

    by otter

If James Earl Jones is JUST doing the VOICE, why NOT have Dave Prowse as the Giant? It's been done before.

That just seems like a whine/shriek voice overload, though I do enjoy them individually.

    by bgart13

Damn, I thought you meant David Prowse. Wouldn't he be more menacing as a giant than James Earl Jones? Love him in Frankenstein And The Monster From Hell...A Clockwork Orange...etc...Damn

    Ahh, Chevy Chase...

    by palimpsest

Almost a comedy genius, who almost did the TV to movies trick. It's a shame to see him cast into in the entertainment wasteland, when people like Murphy and Martin have so comprehensively sold their once-dynamite comedy souls to make tawdry inoffensive shite.
