NBC’s CHUCK!!
CW’s REAPER!!
What Think You,
Geeks Of The World??
I am – Hercules!!
Comic Con San Diego is screening Friday two of my favorite pilots of the fall season.
“Reaper,” a CW comedy-adventure hourlong about a kid sold to Satan by his parents, screens 11 a.m. in Ballroom 20.
“Chuck,” an NBC comedy-adventure hourlong from Josh Schwartz (“The O.C.”) about a geek who unexpectedly gets top government secrets uploaded into his melon, screens 2:45 p.m. in Room 6B.
I think these shows have also been floating around something called the “bittorrents” for some time now, so if you’re determined to voice your views on these projects, you’re welcome to use to the talkback area below.
Know that if you want to break your post into paragraphs, you should start experimenting with “p” and “br” flanked by those sideways “v” thingies.

Looking foward to Reaper personally.
-
Chuck.....not as good, but not horrible.
-

The comedy sidekick is trying to channel Jack Black a little too obviously, but there's a nice relaxed slacker vibe to it, and, y'know, demons.
<break>
Also, getting evil Twin Peaks guy to play Satan is great casting!

-
but so for i love it. i can't wait for. i hope that smith directs more than just the pilot and (most likely) the season finale. i hope he's more involved.
but i really dig bret harrison as the loveable loser, but i have since grounded for life. and then ms. palmer's daddy as the dark lord himself, BRILLIANT! haha
but i hope that they can keep the vibe and build on the banter (maybe smith could throw in a few of his words {i know no fucks or shits or cunts} his words tend to have great pacing). it should hopefully be a fun mix of buffy the vampire slayer and ghostrider. i can't wait for more.
-
... dealt with the devil dogs.
-
Therefore it is perfect.
Suck my dick.
-
They never really explained that did they?
-
And Adam Baldwin's in it. I especially liked the Vicki Vale rap. Haven't seen Reaper.
-
Reaper looks like a fun show, i enjoyed the pilot a bit more than chuck
Chuck had some cool moments, Baldwin and Candyman peaked my interest for more, but i fear it will get the axe early.
-
i watched it last night. its ont the best thing iv ever seen, it was fun. there were a few minutes when all i could see was generic shit, but i could see the moments when i could absolutely tell it was Kevin Smith - those were the cool bits. It struck me as being a bit of a poor mans 'God, The Devil and Bob' really. Can anyone tell me how many eps are planned because if its pretty short ill watch it all, but im pretty sure its going to get old quick. As for the other Pilots out, Sarah Connor has a lot of potential but again is pretty cheesy at points. Theres times in it when all can do it whoop at the TV cos its so cool, but theres a few "eeek thats shit moments". 1st 3 eps of series 3 of Weeds is fucking amazing too.
-
She's been replaced by some other not-nearly-as-hot chick for the series, don't know why. Such extremely poor judgment makes me not want to watch on. I stopped watching DOCTOR WHO when Billie Piper left, too. Call me shallow.
-
So far this year seeing Terminator The Sara Conner Chronicles (looked like a damn movie it was so go), Reaper and Chuck were both excellent, but Pushing Daisies was better than nearly everything this year, particularly if you liked "Dead Like Me". Of course the story seems completely ripped off from Torchwood's resurrection glove, but that aside, it was still great! My god do I love Kristen Chenoweth.
-
Bionic Woman is wicked dark and excellent too! None of these can keep that level of quality up for any length of time. Of course I said the same thing about Earl, and Scrubs and I was wrong on both counts. Go Figure!
-
is in Chuck; doesn't that mean it's already dead in the water?
-
Reaper was cool, havent seen chuck yet but it looks a bit shit to me, but i suppose you can't judge a book by ... and all that crap
-
But I could be way off (it's happened once or twice)
-
Reaper, Bionic Woman, Terminator Series, Chuck and Pushing Dasies are all up on Bittorrent. My favorite is Pushing Daisies. However they all are worth checking out. Reaper deserves special note.
-
i think showtime has another winner with "Californication"..twisted and funny and LOTS of nudity.. Madeline Zima and more :)
I agree Kelvington, Pushing Daisies is pretty good. I think the Terminator series will do well if they recast the bad terminator asap.
-
But Pushing Daisies was awesome. It's definitely on my lineup. Terminator was good enough ('cept for actress playing Sara) and I'll try Bionic Woman tonight. I like this pre-air strategy the networks are doing. This is shaping up to be a good year for TV. I wasn't expecting that.
-
I am far more interested in the Josie and the Pussycats DVD ad up above than this crap.....mmmmmm....animated Josie...
-
Honestly, both new shows will be cancelled by their respective networks before November, so watch them now before it's too late.
-
...and I liked it. The first episode kept up that relentless pursuit theme from the movies. Nice to see alot of tie ins to T2. Plus naked Summer Glau is always a crowd pleaser.
-
If they did some heavy reworking I suppose it could have turned out semi-interesting, but the version I read was stuffed to the gills with so-precious dialogue, self-awareness, and tech references so desperate to be up-to-the-minute that they were probably cut-and-pasted from Wired.
-
... In Outer Space. Bummer!
-
will get old really quickly. We've already got the slacker comedy crimefighter genre covered with the much funnier Psych. Does the audience really have the stomach for yet another whole invented demon mythology to prop up the jokes? And although Twin Peaks guy played the Devil, I keep picturing John Glover in his place.
-
Comic-Con has been saying for a couple of days on its wesbite "Reaper" won't be screened at 11 AM. It's part of tonight's Kevin Smith Experience at 6:15
-
... Then it'd be dead in the water and probably be titled "Chuck and the Magic Bible"
-
Having seen Terminator, Pushing Daisies, Reaper & Bionic Woman. Chuck comes out on top. Not sure about the script you read epitone...but the ep I saw was very funny, fast paced & had a few sweet action sequences as well. I will say that the concept COULD get old- It might have made a better 2 hour movie than a full fledged series. I'm hoping I'm wrong about that! As far as the other shows go- I really liked all of them. Which kinda sucks because I really don't have room for more than 1 or 2 more in my DVR. Thats a good problem to have I guess. I agree with above poster that Terminator really did keep up the pace of the movies. I really don't mind if they deviate from the film series. Hell they can keep them separated for all I care as two different entities. Interesting setting the series in 2007 (obviously for budget reasons). My main concern with this show is Sarah always nagging at John...and John always being a dumbshit teen who doesn't listen. That could get old in between the surprisingly good action sequences. What did everyone think of Bionic Woman? I laughed when they announced the series....then I watched it and was shocked at it. Its very dark (which is great). The fx were really well done (except the running in the woods). Starbuck was awesome in the show. Glad they are getting rid of the deaf annoying sister and recasting. Thats a smart move.
-
gonna go watch them now.
-
Chuck was okay. Basically Johnny Mneumonic with geeks. But Reaper felt kind of forced and not especially well directed. That Jack Black wannabe was especially annoying. Kevin Smith is a good writer but why anyone would hire him just to direct is a mystery. It's supposed to be a colorful action show but the style was very flat. But both of these shows are miles above Cavemen, which is perhaps the worst thing to ever appear on a television set. It will be canceled roughly seven minutes into the airing of the pilot.
-
speaking of new programs, anyone know if i can find Mind Control With Derren Brown on torrent. i know the site cant list links but a simple "yes its out there" will do cos ill find it. Iv got everything British hes ever done, Just cant find it yet..... If you dont know Derren Brown, you have to watch it. Its my fav thing on British TV, and was on SciFi in USA for first time last night.
-
I watched a lot of those pre-air pilots, and i must say, i fell in love with Pushing Daisies. No surprise, really, after all i really loved both DLM and Wonderfalls... The SC Chronicles was okay, it just was exposition, and i'd say you'd have to see the first few episodes to really get a direction... Chuck was really good, indeed, a nice mix of Alias/Jake 2.0, and a geek comedy. Reaper didn't do it for me. It's just a Brimstone remake with the guy from The Loop and a Jack Black wannabe. It has his good moments, but KS's direction is slow and not really great. in fact, the whole pilot is really slow. And while we're in the geek department, The Big Bang Theory is awful. A kind of geek comedy made by guys who never saw a geek in their life. It has used jokes (the myspace stuff), used references (how to mock a geek, now that Star Trek is off the air ? Well let's reference Battlestar Galactica, once again...), a stupid blond, and two 30something geeks that seems more closeted gays than geeks. Awful. And the laugh-track is cringeworthy. Cavemen is okay. Or at least it's not as bad as most reviewers made it seem. It's just awfully heavyhanded in its racial jokes, and clearly needs a major rehaul before airing. And finally, bionic Woman. I've got a huge problem, there. Cos you see, every single people i know thought the preair pilot sucked. Really sucked. And i did too. And i don't know how you can say the special effects were great... cos they weren't even completed. The whole pilot was a rough cut, with uncompleted sfx, overdubbing by studio actors to complete some scenes, and awful awful writing. I don't even wanna comment on the cast... but anyway, i expected nothing from it, and i got nothing. So i can't say i'm disappointed.
-
All you people are focusing on is his appearance; Labine is in no way channelling, or trying to channel, JB. Totally unalike.
-
it was ok, but will definitely not fit into my personal fall schedule, as much as i like ray wise. the jack black clone was very annoying. bionic woman has a chance based on the pilot. i thought the terminator show was most promising though.
-
Being from the UK, this Cavemen thing is lost on me. This was a series of commercials that they turned into a full show? Riiiiiiiight. Bionic Woman was ok I guess. It's clearly a very early cut with temp FX and music.
-
Bad very bad, but as someone else being from the UK I never saw the adverts. But I think it will be cancelled after 1 show. Its another 1 trick pony comedy with no depth. Cavemen vs everyone else.
-
Another bad comedy, as someone else said, its suppose to be about geeks, written by non geeks all jokes in the similar vein to this. "I dont chat to anyone unless they are online." Will be cancelled by the end of 3 eps.
-
Teen comedy, where a guy thats suppose to be geek, gets a exchange student. He is suppose to get some hot nordic teen to make him popular. The twist he get a muslim from Pakistan. Ohh the fun. I cant belive the state of the comedy pilots, does anyone have an idea of what a comedy is suppose to be like in 2007.
-
Nikki Reed annoys me though
-
This isn't the first time he's played the Devil.
-
Showtime does have another hit, this is funny, and goes to show how good David is as a comedy actor. Maybe the nudity does help, but this show, shows how it is like being a single dad on the prowl for pussy in 2007. The dream sequence at the beginning is genius, I bet there is a uproar over there, from the church. Also I just add this, Weeds season 3 is as good as it been for the last 2 seasons. Ive seen the first 3 eps. Just watch out for ep 3, your all be wanting your gf to do a brick dance.
-
Terminator Pilot, is good, just think that they will change the date from 07 to 08. And they have said that they will get rid of the school scene, so do we still find out what Summers character name is? Nice nod to the people who came up with the whole idea of Terminator. Lipstick whatever its called. Trying to be sex in the city mixed with desperate housewives. only good thing out of it, is trying to be Brooke Shields attempt to be Ari from Entrouage, and we get Jack Bauers main squeeze actually look hot. But Im sure the ladies will lap this up big time. Bonic Women A good start, but why do we need the rip off of the deaf girl ala Jericho? Is this an attempt to ground it like the new Dr Who. I will say I do like the casting of the guy from Robocop to be the head of development, nice nod to his role in Robocop. And we also have some other BSG guys pop up. And Michelle Ryan is hot in that fight. But seeing as she is from Enfield, of course she is HOTT!!. Chuck Jake 2.0 meets Alias. Could be good, I enjoyed the pilot, but will it go the way of Jake or Alias. If it goes the way of Alias this could be very good. As for the other Dasies is good, but just dont touch someone twice :P Reaper is ok, but I feel will be cancelled before 5 shows have been shown. I think this will fall the way of wonderfalls. Anymore that I see I will, give my honest opinion on, as it seems like there are more pilots floating along the torrent than the last few years. But none are real break out one like the LOST or Prison break imho.
-
Tyler Labine has been doing the same character since at least Evil Alien Conquerors.
And his role acting is virtually interchangeable with his INVASION role of Dave.
In no way, except being short, fat and hairline challenged, is he Jack Black-esque.
-
I stumbled on this
http://30gms.com/permalink/thundercats_ho/
I'm not sure what to make of the pic, but the comments are terrifying when they describe the "new" Thundercats.
-
jeezus, who greenlights this shit..seriously. These have "axe" written all over them.

If Cavemen becomes a hit, it will signify the end of the world...idiocracy

Ill say it again, get the Californication pilot!
Weeds is kickin ass in the first 3 episodes, great freakin show.
-
= R.I.P.
-
Terminator sucked. God it was dull.
Reaper, Chuck, Pushing Daisies all were fun.
Pushing Daisies might be too smart for america. Wonderfalls was excellent, but the unwashed masses didn't get it.
-
It was too cute and aggresively "weird". But I hated Big Fish too.
-
Really, a monkey could direct a TV show and you'd never know the difference. TV is a writer/producers' medium, so not even the suck that is Kevin Smith could ruin it. Ray Wise makes the show.
-
will watch both when they air. great shows.
-
Cavemen makes fun of the way black people are treated.
-
Seriously, what planet are you people on? It was the worst-written pilot of all the ones I've watched so far; and I've seen Aliens in America.
-
Reaper wasn't FANTASTIC...although it was funny. I wish Smith was staying with the series, it would give me more faith in it. The characters aren't quite solid enough, but the Devil is great, just great. I'll watch until it gets cancelled.
I'm currently waiting for Chuck, I'm hearing good things.
-
Dead like me ripoff? haven't seen it yet but for the genre I can't imagine shows better then "dead like me." And no I am not entirely sure which genre that is other then dark\morbid comedy.
-
But the new girl on Doctor Who is about a hundred times more attractive than Billie Piper. A lot of that math is teeth-related.
-
Don't call it a Dead like me ripoff based on the title when you havent even seen it. that's idiotic/
-
But it doesn't matter, does it? Jake was canceled, maybe Chuck will last more than 1 season. Jake sure didn't
-
I don't think Reaper is a Dead Like Me ripoff. They both deal with death , but it's more like a comedic Brimstone. Since you liked Dead Like Me, check out Pushing Daisies which is also from Bryan Fuller and deals with death.
-
It's kind of weird getting 2 shows about losers working in big box retailers who get super powers. I liked Reaper, although I've heard the girlfriend has been recast from the version I saw. Ray Wise does a great take on Satan. He reminded me of Peter Cook in Bedazzled - mischievous and manipulative more than pure evil. One "Dead Like Me" connection is a minor role by Christine Willes (Delores Herbig), but I don't know if she'd be a regular.
Like tiger_robot said, Chuck is a comedic Jake 2.0. Geek ("I would say nerd") accidentally gets enhanced by top secret government program. I didn't like Jake 2.0 either. I think the problem is that, as a geek myself, there's too much technically wrong to allow me to suspend my disbelief. I know it's not supposed to be realistic, but imagine a show about a greatest singer in the world, but the actor playing the singer can't carry a tune. It takes you out of the moment and makes huge plot holes. I'll watch it some more, but, like Bionic Woman, only because of the other characters and back story. Adam Baldwin is a great comedic tough guy. There's some serious back story involving Tony Todd (another favorite). I don't know how they will reconcile it with the comedy. Yvonne Strzechowski is interesting too.
-
I wouldn't label it as "smart" either. Pushing Daisies is my favorite of the new batch. It and Dexter (returning soon) are 2 shows that really make me feel better for having seen them. It is very different than everything else and likely to get canceled because it won't find a big enough audience, especially on network TV. It's not that the audience is too dumb to understand the show, but it's drawing from genres whose tastes don't intersect much. It mixes romance, sci fi, and quirkiness, so it doesn't really fit the targeted audiences of cable either. It's probably too romantic and "not hard" enough for Sci Fi Channel. Nudity, swearing, and violence don't fit with the show, so premium cable would pass. USA Network seems like it would have been a better fit because of the quirkiness.
I agree with tiger_robots description as "cute and aggresively "weird"," but I thought that made it good (also, I liked Big Fish). Compare it to the first episode of Torchwood. In Torchwood, an alien glove could bring a victim back to life for a few minutes to solve their murder. The victims would know they were killed, know they were going to die again in a couple minutes, and were terrified. They would cry, plead, and ask for favors. It was realistic, sad, and depressing, which fits a gritty, violent setting. By setting Pushing Daisies in a saccharine world that is so unlike ours, it makes sense to talk to calm and cheery dead people. A guy can get mauled and still allow the rest of the show to be light.
-
New chick Missy Phel a fuckin something is much hotter. As a matter of fact i'd suck her farts
-
Hopefully we can still get some Candace action in a few eps of Heroes. Same goes for Richard in Lost.
-
Great show, and an opportunity to see it online on cwtv.com/reaper. It was a comicon promotion that is up until Saturday--the passcode is 082507.
