Great. One of the weakest damn links in the show as a character as far as I'm concerned. Much like Charlie, his backstory seems to be way past done. Walt on the other hand seems to have a lot of story to go - since we know very little about him except what we've heard yelled from freakin Michael. And if you're going to be pissed off about how they've killed off the black people...I'd personally rather the character be dead or missing rather than have more shit writing that goes nowhere and has stage directions of (Dialogue to be yelled intensely). If only Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje hadn't wanted out of the show...Eko was a great character that I miss. Michael could have been shot then drowned and eaten by one of the Dharma sharks and would never be missed.

My guess - Michael and Walt were on the 'rescue' boat

    by performingmonkey

I think we can assume that Walt was actually on the island when he helped Locke at the end of season 3. I think the whole show will jump forward 3 years or so, meaning the Jack 'flash-forward' of the finale is now the present time. This can explain Walt's aging. When we see the island again it will be 3 years later. Sun and Jin will have a 3-year-old kid, Ben's people won't have been in contact with the Lostees at all. A few Lostees were taken off the island by the 'rescue' boat - Jack and Kate definitely. The season opener will be a Kate episode, it will show her deciding that YES she and Jack need to go back to the island, the flashback shows them being rescued.

    The Walt aging thing...

    by jimmy_009

Will actually work now since they're off the island and some time has passed. When we see him again in the real world it will make since that he's aged. I can see what they were going for now, it's just the one reappearance during the finale that they couldn't pull off quite right. But it's easy enough to overlook.

    by mistere

Has anyone here seen the new Jeep commercial where they CGI a Jeep into an assortment of famous (and not so famous) video clips? One example is the Apollo moon landing, with a Jeep driving behind the astronauts planting a flag on the moon. One of the last scenes in that commercial is John Locke sitting on the beach as a Jeep passes by. Kinda funny.

    Hmmm...I wonder if Harold's...

    by cheif brody

...allowed to discuss what, exactly, he's getting paid to come back to Lost with his fellow castmates? I bet if Naveen or Josh heard that salary amount they'd shit themselves and fall back in it. Good for Harold! He was obviously NOT pleased when he found out he'd be sitting S3 out...and now that they need him back to shore up the Walt/Michael storyline...he's probably makin double what he was gettin paid the first 2 seasons. This is why TPTB had to get ABC to let them set an end date for the show, folks...To STOP THE VAMPING! They let Harold wander off after S2 exactly because it wouldn't be fair to keep him around while the stalled for time ramping up for the big finish, because they had no idea how many seasons they'd have to vamp before it was time to start heading for the finish line. Now that they know they only have 48 more stories to tell, they realize they need to be telling Michael & Walt's story NOW...(as they need to explain who's in that damn coffin). But...Before the end date of Lost was established, they may have not needed Harold back until S5 or 6 depending on how the popularity of the show held up. Even thogh we're having to put up with this ridiculous wait for new episodes...the end date will mean less vamping and better storytelling...and it appears...it starts with "What the hell happened to Michael & Walt"? Too bad we also have to wait til December 11th for the S3 DVD set to be available for purchase! HERE'S MY WACKY LOST THEORY OF THE DAY: Walt & Jacob have the same powers!! Remember when Shannon was able to clearly see drippy-wet-backwards-talkin Walt...but Sayid couldn't...except for a brief glimpse? Same thing with Ben & Locke at the mysterious house. I think Jacob was able to "appear" there...when he actually really wasn't in the house. Ben could see him...but Locke only caught a brief glimpse. I think Jacob & Walt have the ability to "project themselves"...but only to certain people. THIS CONCLUDES MY WACKY LOST THEORY OF THE DAY! Namaste!

    Richard Alpert, Michael, and Eko

    by henry fool

I imagine Michael and Walt will have their stories cross with Jack or the other survivors in the present. Michael finally got interesting when he shot Ana Lucia and Libby. Now that he has something terrible to live with, I'm anxious to see how he's holding up. Eko was interesting because he had a tormented past. Richard's apparent immortality and his line about how 'they're doing more important work than saving babies' on the island is something that needs to be explored. He seems like a sleeper character who you know is going to get more important, kind of how the introduced Desmond in Season 2 but didn't really put him into the mix until season 3.

    by inwosuxred

Announcing MICHAEL returning to the show is a spoiler, and could have been a great twist. Seeing Walt again was unexected by many people, but when some dickhead executive blows a big moment like this, AICN can just ignore it. They were actually pulling spoilers a couple months ago, now they're posting them in the title? You've only got one show worth watching, ABC, don't let your executives fuck it all up!

For crying out loud, it's NOT a spoiler

    by big dumb ape

Man, while I will always salute and appreciate geekiness -- and I say that by openly admitting to being a lifelong geek dweeb myself -- some of you seriously need to get back in touch with reality (I can hear Shatner now: "Get out of the house! Go kiss a girl!") or at the very least learn a few things about Business 101.The announcement was made by the freakin' PRESIDENT of ABC during a Press Tour for all the TV networks. In short, the execs are out talking to the media and even dragging along some major stars to do their annual dog and pony show about the upcoming year, the changes that will be made across the board, what people can look forward to...yada, yada, yada. And why? Simple: to drum up coverage and interest with regards to their respective shows and thus -- far more importantly to them -- try to affect the advertising revenue fees that they'll be asking down the road.So Stephen McPherson isn't trying to ruin LOST for you, but as President of a network he IS trying to generate buzz any way he can to affect the bottom line, particularly since he DOES have a corporate board and ABC stock shareholders that he's accountable to.Look, if he told you how Michael came back or what he'd be doing, sure, THAT would be a spoiler. But to attend an event like this and announce "which" actors have been hired (or been released) and how that's going to dramatically improve a show is the whole fucking POINT of being there. And just remember: across the last 3 seasons, LOST's ratings have been dropping, so the freakin' President of the network certainly has good reason to try and get people re-interested again any way he can...

    Reply to Talkback

  • Jul 26, 2007 3:00:36 AM CDT

Of course on the OTHER hand...

    by big dumb ape

After stating why it makes perfect sense for the President of a Network to be talking to the press at a staged media event to try and generate buzz for his network's shows...to try and affect the bottom line and please his corporate bosses or the stockholders he's accountable to...on the OTHER hand I could also say that AICN didn't have to report what he said.I mean, sure, you might have come across this particular information elsewhere while reading some other media sites, but all the same AICN could have made a conscious choice NOT to reveal the Michael news themselves. So if you feel a spoiler has been blown, then it just seems to me that it's more on the head of AICN then on a network exec who was simply doing his job.Of course, then we've come full circle to AICN doing ITS job as well. I mean, isn't the whole POINT of a web site like AICN to reveal spoilers and plot points or review scripts before a single camera has rolled or to show you preproduction drawings or SFX test shots and reveal "what" something is going to look like ahead of time? The way I see it, if you come to a site like AICN to begin with, you pretty much are relinquishing your right to bitch about something being spoiled for you down the road...

    Stephen McPherson IS a cunt...

    by ribbons

...but not because of this. Read "Disneywar" by James Stewart some time; before Eisner fired Lloyd Braun and made McPherson president of ABC, he hated the idea of "Lost" so much that he had to leave the room whenever they were talking about it. Then he reaped the good fortunes of all the work Susan Lyne and Braun did with shows like "Lost," "Desperate Housewives" and "Grey's Anatomy" and took all the credit as the savior of the company after their bags had been packed. Oh, and he's also the dillweed who almost refused to end "Lost" because it was too lucrative, ironically enough. The only thing that probably changed his mind was the diminishing ratings. So yeah, I don't like you, Stephen McPherson. But I do like this news.

Why the bitching about ABC and a "spoiler?"

    by the selecter

If anybody who's bitching about ABC "spoiling" the news cared to dig a little deeper, they'd have discovered that *the producers* were going to make the same announcement anyway at Comic-Con, among other Lost news. Instead, they gave in and allowed it to break at the TCA. Either way, this was intended to make the news. If you're that anal about "spoilers", you'd better avoid any Comic-Con coverage that is sure to pop up here at AICN, 'cause I'm sure there will be more forthcoming. As for Michael, I certainly hope they give him more to do than whine about "my boy" every other line, otherwise, they may as well keep him in limbo. His one-note tune got awfully tiresome, to more than a few viewers.

    by itchy

Michael was a complete one-note pony, and dragged down every scene he was in. They already are overcrowded on the character front - why add to it ? If they want those ratings up they need to spend 80 % of each episode in Goth-Claire flashbacks focusing on the time she was a nympho lesbian looking to make a name for herself in the Aussie hardcore porn industry.

    by brokentusk

Michael SHOT Libby and Ana-Lucia in order to get his son back. He betrayed his friends and sided with "the enemy". He then leaves the island and, in the process, leaves his friends to (possibly) die. If they had just left this hanging forever and never gone back to it, I'd have been highly annoyed - Michael needs to be held accountable for his actions! Either that, or they at least need to weave certain plot threads to a close. This is nothing but GOOD news.

"And just remember: across the last 3 seasons, LOST's ratings have been dropping, so the freakin' President of the network certainly has good reason to try and get people re-interested again any way he can..."
I would suggest one of the best ways to bring back Lost ratings are for him to quit. Fucked up scheduling in season 2, and that weird as fuck mini-season in season 3, and a later timeslot were probably the biggest reasons for drops. Those would all fall on programming, and to a lesser extent production ability. Lost is also a hugely popular internet show and had great DVD sales, which should be a much getter revenue generator than traditional TV ratings. I tend to think that Lost pulling another shocker that people didn't see coming would be a much better way to generate buzz DURING THE SEASON than spoiling a big shocker many many months before the show returns so that people will have forgotten about it by the time the show is actually on TV. Michael returning would be a shocker, so telling people about it before it happens is a spoiler. It doesn't matter if a programming dickhead, an AICN dork, or producer spoiled it, it was still spoiled.

    Yes it is a spoiler

    by scamsandflams

If you actually like and give a shit about the show, it's a spoiler just knowing Michael will reappear. Maybe it's one I couldn't have avoided, but I'd rather AICN try a little harder than posting it as the title on the front page.Oh, and "Lost discovers a plot"? That's so snarky and retarded. The show is a mystery, that's the entire fucking point. The way the writers avoid the reveal of what is actually going on has transcended frustrating coyness to a point where I am genuinely stunned at their ability to work the viewer around the truth. Seriously, the fact that Lost is such a mystery with 3 seasons wrapped is a credit to unbelievable writing. I used to agree with the naysayers but there was a tipping point, and now I'm simply floored with appreciation.

    It's not AICN's fault..ABC had a press conference

    by neo zeed

It's the ABC President's fault. He made it public knowledge. ABC has screwed this show with it's scheduling, and now they're revealing plot points. I just hope that Michael shows up in the first 10 minutes, and it's not some long, drawn out reveal.

    I'll concede that it's ABC's president's fault

    by scamsandflams

I just wish I could un-know this information. Curse you, Mr. President. And why haven't you caught Bin Laden yet? ATRGHGHGJKS

Michael was an asshole long before he shot anyone

    by _maltheus_

Rewatch season one. He was an ass from day one and he's lucky Locke or Jin didn't cut him up. I know he was concerned about Walt, but that never excused his behavior as far as I was concerned. I like the actor well enough on Oz, but I could not care less about the character of Michael. Although I suppose he must be relevant to the stupid plot twist in the finale, so he'll probably be important for some short time. I'd much rather hear the news that Libby were somehow back. Wait no, I take that back, ABC shouldn't be revealing this kind of news at all. Fuckwad suits!

How does this cunt keep getting acting roles

    by stuntcock mike

The last season of Lost was way better without him.

He did kill a few worthless characters though.

    Welcome back Michael

    by turketron

I would love to hear Ben say those words upon Michael's return (if he does return to the island).

It will be good to see him return.

    HAHAHAHA Spoiler crybabies

    by one-eye tigh

Some of the people that post here amaze me sometimes. "WAAAAHHHH, I read that an actor is returning to a show I love!! WAAAAHHH!! Damn you for not warning me ahead of time!! WAHHHHH!" Jesus, some of you are unbelievable.
I'm not sure if you know this or not, but this is a WEBSITE FOR TV & MOVIE NEWS/GOSSIP. If you don't want to read stuff that may spoil your show, DON'T VISIT THIS SITE. It's not hard.

    Actually...

    by therealseveren

I first heard about Michael's return when I checked my e-mail on yahoo. It was the featured story and impossible to miss... If youre on the internet its getting to the point where its impossible to stay in the dark on anything especially when it comes to entertainment. Its not really a spoiler though since we all knew he was coming back anyway.

I shouldn't have said that about Stephen McPherson...

    by ribbons

...sure I question some of his judgment calls, but as a TV watcher and a network executive, we have different priorities. I may have exaggerated just a tad.

    Michael needs a good defense

    by quintasphere

Because all I hear about this character is how he's supposedly a horrible human being, beyond redeem.

    Where do I even start?
It's always annoyed me that people called the character "bloodthirsty",
    "coldblooded", "traitorous"
    or even "murderous".

Given all we seen about him throughout two seasons, this is all you can say about the character? As if he orchestrated everything from the get
go. All of this hatred for the character is coming out of left field.

I don't hate Michael for what he did at the end (certainly didn't endear him to me), I hate him precisely for those first two seasons. He was an ass. He was always on the verge of fighting someone and he was a pretty crappy dad on top of it. His part as a drug-dealing cop killer on Oz was far more likable as people go.That doesn't mean that shows don't benefit from unlikable characters (Locke's dad for instance), I'm just not going to be able to buy into any redemption storyline for him.

It is a spoiler to me damn it.

    by engelhast

I avoid any news about low and behold some numb nut ends up somewhere spoiling things by posting something like this as the head line. Had link said a there was even a chance of a spoiler I would not even be in here right now. I don't even watch the preview for the next weeks episode.

It is the way I watch TV and if you don't like it tough shit buddy.

said in an interview " I could think of a lot less desirable characters on the island that they the producers could have killed off". Monagahan was furious about they way in which his character was killed off.

    by scamsandflams

You're an idiot. The spoilers on this site aren't IN THE TITLE OF THE ARTICLES, and the articles with spoilers are tagged (usually) with a red frame. Obviously the bitching is about the spoiler IN THE TITLE and not about a spoiler on a spoiler site, you absolute fucking spastic. On the other hand, I was wrong to bitch about this specific spoiler, because it's ABC's fault. So I take back all the nasty curse words I said to you just sentences ago. Let's be BFFs.

    Yeah, I'm very anti-spoiler

    by _maltheus_

And it was wrong to put it in the title. But this spoiler is everywhere (even real news sites). I don't think it would have been possible to avoid. It's ABCs fault more than AICN.
