The New York Times Has A Picture From And A Story On JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE NEW FRONTIER!!

Published at:  Jul 22, 2007 5:07:53 AM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

The geekgasm that is San Diego Comic Con continues to roar toward us, and the New York Times on Saturday published a interesting piece on the direct-to-DVD movie “Justice League: New Frontier,” which is based on the spectacular 2004 comic-book series by Darwyn Cooke.

The paper also has a cool still of Wonder Woman partying with some hot Vietnamese girls.

Cooke, who worked as storyboard artist for the “Superman” and “Batman” animated series of the 1990s, was hired to co-write the screenplay for the “Frontier” DVD.

An excerpt from the Times piece:

… the process was not without its bumps. In the first three drafts, neither Wonder Woman nor Lois Lane, both significant in the comic, was in the film. “You have to pick your battles,” Mr. Cooke said. “I had to give up a lot of things that would make me weep, not because they need to be in the film but because I wanted to see them animated. But Lois and Wonder Woman had to be in.” …

Lucy Lawless voices Diana of Themyscira in the new production, said to be hitting shelves next year. Other cast members include Kyle MacLachlan as Clark Kent, Neil Patrick Harris as Barry Allen, Steven Blum as Bruce Wayne, Dave Wittenberg as Arthur Curry, David Boreanaz as Hal Jordan, Brooke Shields as Carol Ferris, Steve Staley as Dick Grayson, and Phil Morris – familiar to all as Cosmo Kramer mouthpiece Jackie Chiles – as King Faraday. (I don’t think I’ve heard yet who plays Lois.)

Read all of the Times piece here.

...a too obvious choice to play WW? Sounds good, and can't wait for some more Timm toons. The new stuff (The Batman, Legion etc.) leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

    Voice actors

    by jfp2007

I hate all of this voice shuffling with the DTV movies. It's not like the old actors have anything else to do. They could easily bring them all together. New voices for pre-existing characters takes long time viewers, like me, out of the experience.

    by duncanhines

I agree with Manos. Kevin Conroy is definitely the voice I hear in my head when I read Batman. But, I am beyond psyched about a New Frontier movie. Darwyn Cooke is one of my top 3 favorite cartoonists working today.

    old cartoon voices

This story is in kind of its own separate world from the regular DC universe, so maybe different voices make sense.

    Conroy/Lawless

    by wrath4771

I agree with the other posters that Conroy is Batman and without him you really don't have Bats. As for Lucy Lawless, it may seem like an obvious choice, but let's all remember - Lucy Lawles can fly - Xena can't.

    Conroy is Great...

    by gatack

But he's not the only man that can voice Batman. He's the best there's ever been and my personal favorite, but there are others who can do Batman justice.

I have the trades and the Absolute format of this story. I really can't wait to see the trailer for this thing.

Why the black "S" on Superman's chest?

    by snookeroo

It wasn't black in the original Action comic, or in any of the newspaper strips (it was a yellow field with red "S", or completely yellow (due mostly to printing limitations).

Bullshit. As long as the actors that have played them in the past are able to then they should keep them in place. Not having Conroy in this is just irritating. And yes it is part of the DC Animated Universe; thus it should be Conroy.

the black S sheild is from the Fleischer stuidos cartoons. if you haven't seen them check them out. they were a big inspiration for Dini and his animted DC universe starting with Batman TAS. http://tinyurl.com/3ah24m

to have Conroy as the voice of Batman without the Dini design would just be distracting. what i don't get is why the redesigned Lois. The original Dini Lois was perfect!

David Borenaz is fucking Hal Jordan. If anyone but him plays that role now I will be so fucking disapointed as to what might have been They will probably want to go younger but i'm telling you he has the look of Hal Jordan and he has that Superhero build, the jaw and everything. Someone out there please please please make this happen. No knock to DB but if would be less expensive that alot of the other options and he has a proven track record.
