ORIGINAL POST:
It’s Emmy nomination day!
Will “24,” which won the top drama Emmy last year, find itself shut out?
What about “Desperate Housewives”? Have Emmy voters wised up the idea that it’s not a comedy? Or good?
I have some confidence that “The Sopranos” and “Lost” and “House” and “The Office” and “30 Rock” and “Ugly Betty” and “Two and a Half Men” will do just fine this go-round.
“Heroes” might make out OK. So might “Friday Night Lights.”
But what of “Battlestar Galactica” and “Veronica Mars” and “Rome” and “The Wire”? Can we assume that Emmy will treat these amazing series rather less well?
The nominations get announced Thursday morning at 5:40 a.m. Pacific Time. If I fall asleep before then, I encourage the talkbackers to post the nominations and/or tinyurls linking to those nominations. Eventually I will wake and paste them into the main article.

had better get nominated. i know it's a long shot, but if 24 gets a nod over it, the Emmys will officially be a joke
-
24 should not get any attention this year. Season six was a real fall from grace. On the other hand Lost really improved from season 2 so I'm hoping it will get some lovin.
-
Just like every other major award show that's broadcast. You know Galactica is going to get screwed again. The Shield too. Arguably the two best shows on the boob tube these days and they will get ignored yet again.
-
his testimony during Baltar's trial was excellent! and the scene when Tigh killed his wife was Emmy worthy as well! and his "Whooa!" from the season finale was just as great!
-
MAYBE the nominations this time around will prove me wrong for a change, i'm more than open to the possibility. But lets face it, given the Emmy's track record at deliberately ignoring shows very deserving of the nomination, thats not very likely to happen...
-
DAMMIT!!! THERE BETTER BE SOME SERIOUS RECOGNITION FOR MICHAEL K. WILLIAMS!!!! BETTER KNOWN AS OMAR!!! O-FUCKING-MAR!!!! OMAR DON'T SCARE!!!! BUT HE SCARES THE EMMY VOTERS---THE PUSSIES!!!! BUT IF MIKEY DOESN'T WALK OUT OF THERE WITHOUT A STATUE IN HAND...HE NEEDS TO STRAP ON THE OL' FLAK JACKET AND STROLL IN PACKING MAJOR HEAT!!!! (or hell...send him in his jammies!!! that scares the piss outta the kids too!) But seriously...the most facinating character on TV...ever...is just so because of Mike Williams' talent...and if you watched the fourth season....the scenes of Omar in jail....Omar with Bunk...and best of all....Omar bringing a clock to repair, are classic scenes worthy of repeated viewing!!! While they are at it...Andre Royo's portrayal of Bubbles is worthy, even if it was tops in the first season, and lastly, from a WHOLE CAST WORTHY OF EMMYS...I give you Jim True-Frost's Prez, who gave a fantastic performance as a ex-cop turned teacher (and frankly, he EARNED a emmy in season 3 in the single scene as he refused to take legal protection from his fatal mistake). With luck the Emmys will give THE WIRE some spotlight in time for people to see the farewell season on HBO...and send a message to everyone working in TV that writing matters most....and then everything falls into place from there.....And thus, where's Wallace? - - - George, the 7th Chicken!!!!
-
To do with sci-fi, it will be "overlooked". I agree The Shield should get some acting awards.
-
...more than likely I'll like a handful of the nominations made, hate the rest, and remain pissed for all eternity that "Veronica Mars" was looked over for pure offal like "Lost".
Oh, and I wholeheartedly agree that if "24" gets nominated, I will be pissed. Last season jumped a whole series of sharks. If it gets nominated and wins, it'll be an ever worse injustice. And next season's going to make last season look like David Palmer-era "24". Not that I'll be watching, but mark my words. -
and while you're at it, an award as well.
-
they can't overlook that, can they?
-
puts all other series to task. true to its seasonal arc, hard to compare with other non-cable dramas. but it doesn't need to, this is what true serial "television" should try and obtain, regardless the genre. (Deadwood S1, 2 and half of 3 comes damn close, though.)
-
seriously, who judges these things?
and FilmCritic3000, Lost has turned in a surprising hand. It would nice to have seen it a bit more condensed per season (like 13 hours per), but now that the end has been decided and the season whittled down, I think we're going to see some of the best of what a 'commercial' television series has to offer. -
That BSG gets nominated for Special Effects and that the The Shield gets some sort of nomination.
-
Galactica is one of the best drama/sci-fi series out there. I will miss it when it ends next season.
-
Did I mention The Wire? THE WIRE, muthafuckas!
-
And Galactica for that matter.
-
I LOVE The Shield, it deserves far more recognition and awards, partucularly for acting, than it gets. But The Wire is operating on a different plain. It's not just brilliant TV, it's brilliant art. And it's not just art for art's sake but a thorough examination of life in the U.S, I don't mind that it will probably never win a emmy because the emmys become more worthless everytime they overlook it.
-
contention. Neither were in the list of 10 semifinalists that was published by the GoldDerby Emmy forum (the LA Times sponsors that).
Drama Series semifinalists: Boston Legal, Dexter, Friday Night Lights, Grey's Anatomy, Heroes, House, Lost
Rome, The Sopranos, 24
Comedy Series: Desperate Housewives
Entourage, Extras, My Name is Earl, The Office, Scrubs, 30 Rock, Two and a Half Men, Ugly Betty, Weeds. -
Finally get Emmy recognition for their terrific work and ...ah, who the eff am I kidding? :(
-
People like the familar and tend to vote with what they think the "popular" vote is. I'm bored already.
-
The early part of LOST this year was week, but the John Locke character was outstanding acted. Micheal Emerson would also be a great choice.
-
24 season six was excrement.
-
I think the Emmy voters must only get a handful of channels or don't watch the medium that often, thus they vote for what, like you said, is the most popular or "safe" choice.
Some very rare times (like when "Arrested Development" won), they get it right. -
at least it's gotten much better over the years at broadening its spectrum and often honoring films that not much of the mainstream audience has seen yet. It boggles my mind that the Emmys still honors the shows with the big ratings; how on Earth can they possibly be thinking they're legitimately recognizing artistic merit? We'd be in trouble if the top box office grossers were the films being awarded at the Oscars. Occasionally it's warranted for shows like Lost and Sopranos and West Wing, but Desperate Housewives? An easy answer, I suppose, is that because shows are low-rated, not enough voters have seen them, and it's a lot more time to watch a show than for a voter to conveniently pop in a screener for a movie. Of course they'll never warm up to the teen-oriented shows, and while Lost was a step in the right direction toward broadening the Emmys' minds to sci-fi, Lost is definitely not full-on geeky sci-fi like BSG. I remain pessimistic.
-
nominees, that is...
-
Entourage, 2.5 Men, 30 Rock, Ugly Betty, The Office
-
Patricia Arquette, Medium, Sally Field, Bros. & Sisters; Mariska Hartigay, L&O SVU: Minnie Driver, The Riches (WTF); Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer.
-
or must the emmy voters ballot have actually said :Your selection for most overrated drama show?
-
for the start of the industry's annual circle-jerk party season?I wonder who or what will be given a bone this year to string along the illusion that awards like this are actually based on merit and not popularity?
-
Why shit like Boston Legal gets Best Drama nods over Lost?
-
Supporting Actor, Comedy: Jeremy Piven and Kevin Dillon, Entourage; Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother; Rainn Wilson, The Office; Jon Cryer, 2.5 Men
Supporting Actor, Drama: William Shatner, Boston Legal; TR Knight, Grey's Anatomy; Masi Oka, Heroes; Terry O' Quinn and Michael Emerson, Lost, Michael Imperioli, Sopranos
Supporting Actress, Comedy:Jaime Pressly, My Name Is Earl; Jenna Fischer, The Office; Conchata Ferrell and Holland Taylor, 2.5 Men
Vanessa Williams, Ugly Betty; Elizabeth Perkins, Weeds
Supporting Actress, Drama:Rachel Griffiths, Brothers & Sisters; Chandra Wilson, Sandra Oh and Katherine Heigl, Grey'a Anatomy
Aida Turturro and Lorraine Bracco, The Sopranos -
As an advocate for men's rights, I demand an explanation for the presence of SIX nominations for Drama Actress opposed to FIVE for Drama Actor. A discriminatory travesty, says I.
-
They broke through in Best Writing in a Drama for the season 3 premiere (Occupation/Precipice). WOOHOO! :D
-
However, Sopranos will sweep the Emmy's anyway, so there's really no point watching.
-
Boston Legal, Heroes (AW HELLS YEAH! TAKE THAT, FRACKERS!), Grey's Anatomy, House, Sopranos
-
Exodus, Part 2 (otherwise known as the Atmo Jump episode).
But no Lauren Graham in her last hurrah, or Kristen Bell. :( -
James Spader, Boston Legal; Hugh Laurie, House; Denis Leary, Rescue Me; James Gandolfini, Sopranos; Kiefer Sutherland, 24 (yikes...)
-
What the hell is Grey's Anatomy doing in the Best Drama category?! It deserved to get shut out just as much as 24 after a terrible season. FNL or Lost(which I've been really tough on but had a helluva comeback year) should've taken its place. And Connie Britton being left out Best Actress in a Drama is a joke. Thankfully Johnny Drama and Pam Beesly got some love in the supporting acting categories for comedy.
-
Felicity Huffman, Desperate Housewives, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, New Adventures of Old Christine; Tina Fey, 30 Rock; Mary Louise Parker, Weeds; America Ferrara, Ugly Betty
-
Emmy judges are retards....and 2 and a half men nom for best comedy? Get the fuck outta here.
-
Best season yet.
-
is easily one of the worst shows in the history of television. It's worse than any bad, short-lived sitcom because it's still on the air and it still gets Emmy nominations. I've never seen a more formulaic piece of crap get this much live
-
Yeah, I said it.
-
well, at least BSG did get couple of nominations. and both o'quinn and emerson got nominations...
-
Don't tell me that 2 1/2 Men is funnier than Scrubs! AND GIVE JOHN C.MC GINLEY HIS NOMINATION GODDAMMIT!!!! He's a much better cranky TV Doctor than Hugh Laurie!

Lifetime, A&E, Animal Planet 2, The CW, Hallmark Channel, Nat'l Geographic, Oxygen, Starz, Turner Classic Movies 1 each -
He acted his ass off this entire season. Frankly, I could've done without Spader or Leary this year. And what about The Shield? Fuck these Emmy assholes.
-
How can arguably the best show on television be ignored?!? Meanwhile, 24 sucks nuts and gets rewarded. In 30 years, people are gonna care a heck of a lot more about Lost then about Heroes. Or 24, which digests the same storyline constantly. The Sopranos? Really? THAT many?
-
I'm not holding my breath for Heroes, which would be awesome, but I would be very, very happy to see House or Boston Legal walk away with it. I would settle for Grey's Anatomy. Any show but The Sopranos.
-
lost may not have been nominated in the main categories but it did get recognized for writing and direction. the season finale, "through the looking glass " was the episode submitted and it got nominated for outstanding direction (jack bender) and writing (carleton cuse and damon lindelof).
-
Bullshit. Why are Boston Legal and Grey's Anatomy even nominated when these three shows aren't?
Wake me up when the Emmys recognize real shows and not overhyped commerical dreck. -
Nominees by show:
Sopranos 15
Ugly Betty 11
30 Rock, Grey’s Anatomy 10
The Office 9
Heroes 8
Rome, 2.5 Men, Entourage 7
24, Desperate Housewives, My Name is Earl, Lost, Deadwood, Boston Legal 6
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, CSI, Weeds, Scrubs 5
The Tudors, Extras, House, Battlestar Galactica 4
Law and Order SVU, ER, Dexter, Bros and Sisters, How I Met Your Mother 3
Hustle, Friday Night lights, CSI Miami, Monk 2
Smallville, Standoff, Shark, Nip/Tuck, Rescue Me, The Riches, Medium, Kidnapped, Ghost Whisperer, CSI NY, The Closer, Rules of Engagement, New Avdentures of Old Christine; Eureka, According to Jim, The Class, 1 -
is the best tv series ever made hands down. How can they not get nominated?
-
shane from the shield had some of the best acting on tv in years this season. Fuck the emmys. T.R. Knight was called a fag so he gets nominated? Fuck the emmys are for 12 year old girls...
-
Visual Effects and Sound Editing, both for Exodus Part 2.
-
WTF - how can they not nominate Mathew Fox for best actor. He acted his arse off and was the best thing about Lost last season. I mean come on, who got shivers down their spine when Jack beat the living shit out of Ben (Emerson).
He is the only actor nowadays that uses his face, body and mouth to act. Everyone else (apart from Emerson) looks like a cardboard cut-out with a moving mouth! -
best character on tv
-
Yep.
-
... not that there's anything wrong with that. So how does the absolute WORST season of 24 get nominated for anything, and we see no representation of THE WIRE? Are you frakking kidding me? And Elizabeth Mitchel (Juliet from LOST) should have been nominated for best actress in a drama. I would have liked to have seen some emmy nods to The Shield and Dexter as well. And I love Heroes, but I realize that it should not have that many nominations... it keeps me riveted, but writing/acting on that show needs to be tightened up!
-
But S. Epatha Merkenson of Law and Order did. :|
-
The Emmys want to pull the biggest rating they can. The shows they nominated, for the most part, are simply geared towards attracting the vast majority of the TV-viewing public. If the "best" shows were truly nominated this year, we'd have a list looking something like: Battlestar Galactica, Rome, The Wire, Rescue Me and Lost. Of those five, only one of them has an audience that even comes close to touching shows like House and Grey's Anatomy in ratings. Yeah, geeks like us would be doing cartwheels if 5 like those were nominated, but most of the people out there would say they've never heard of those shows and therefore tune the telecast out as a result. You replace a nominee like Grey's Anatomy with one like Rome, you lose yourself a lot of viewers.
-
Replace that with The Wire, Lost, The Shield, BSG...
Three episodes of The Sopranos for Writing/Drama? Yeah, right...
Kiefer Sutherland for best actor in a drama? Uhhh... Jack Bauer is awesome, but come on... I'd put Matthew Fox, Dexter (dunno the actor's name atm), Michael Chiklis, and any lead from this season of The Wire over him for last season. -
This is like reading the box office reports and seeing all the shitty movies like Norbit, Night at the Museum, and Wild Hogs that make tons of money over much better ones (sorry Grindhouse).
-
That is complete and utter bullshit. REPEAT: COMPLETE AND UTTER BULLSHIT. How can we find out what episodes were submitted by these two shows to the Emmy committee?
-
but not even one nomination for the wire?
-
At least they got the Daily show and the Colbert Report. Consistently one of the best hours on television.
-
of multiple emmy voters to have Boston Legal continuing to rake in the nominations. I mean, jesus...
-
Nothing.
-
While Lost submitted "Through the Looking Glass".
-
Mostly.
-
I've paid them no mind since I was 15 years old.
-
The Academy Awards earned 8 emmy nominations. Do we really need that many catergories that the Academy Awards can even compete in?
-
The Office is clearly the best comedy on the air, and it is getting the recognition that it deserves. Nice to see some Extras love too, as well as 30 Rock.
By the way--what the fuck is 2 1/2 Men? Isn't it one of those old-fashioned sitcoms where they're just on a ridiculously disproportionate flat set that, if it were a real house, would have one giant blank wall everyone would stare at, where every fifteen seconds the studio audience laughs hysterically at some "sassy" comment that's not really funny?
Call me naive, but I really thought people stopped watching those after Friends went off the air. After Arrested Development, The Office, Scrubs, Curb Your Enthusiasm, 30 Rock, Extras, Malcolm in the Middle, etc. etc., I can't imagine going back to the old model. (Called single-camera and multi-camera, right?) But those multi-camera sitcoms are actually still popular, huh? Weird. -
The show is completely out of steam. AND, it really is no longer a drama. It's far too goofy.
-
Better than ANY of the nominated best actors.
-
For being on the wrong end of Issiah Washington's homophobia more than his work on Grey's Anatomy. Michael Hogan acts rings around every one of those supporting actor nominees. Bah.
-
cause they have not fooking clue what good television is and celebrate all that is lame and gay. STEWIE FOR GOVENER!!!!

Finally recognizing Battlestar for something but NO noms for the Wire! Bullshit!!!
-
Wow.
-
He's the guy who does the music for BSG. Scandalous he wasn't nominated for best music.
-
mollyunravel-We can read, thank you very much. I was getting at the fact that Lost could very well be the best show on TV but doesn't get recognized for it. Compare it to Heroes or Boston Legal and it kind of makes you wonder how those shows are percieved as stronger. deucefilms-Yea it feels ratings based but theres always stuff like The Office and 30 Rock that doesn't do stellar.
-
I'm happy about House but Lost got screwed out of severals noms. Matthew Fox. Elizabeth Mitchell. Screwed. Motherfucking Heroes for Best DRAMA? Give me a damn break! A joke.
-
a frikkin joke.
-
Plain and simple. Absolutely no basis in reality, or in the quality of the acting, writing, production, etc. Case in point: The Shield got nothing. Nothing! After the scene where Vic confronts Shane? After all of Cavanaugh's confrontations with Vic? Yet nothing? WTF? BSG got next to nothing. Best drama for Heroes (which, IMHO, disqualified itself with that last episode), but not for Lost??? And Boston Legal? Give me a break. James Spader and his schtick got tired, boring, and old years ago. How many times can William Shatner say "Denny Crane" and still be considered emmy worthy? 15 noms for the Sopranos? I hope that's just the voters being sentimental, because there wasn't a single emmy worthy moment this year, and the final scene should have been cause to disqualify that show altogether. And the idea that 3 of the 5 best written drama series episodes this year were on the Sopranos? Please....
-
And HEROES fucking is?
Fuck that, isn't the Emmys the thing that nominated that mincer from Will and Grace for 20 years in a row? -
Although Jack Coleman got screwed, since he was so good in Company Man (HRG Guy's backstory episode).
-
I cannot fucking fathom what goes through the minds of these corporate Hearst-type cocksuckers that have the gall to call themselves the Emmys. What? No respect for my show? No expressions of thanks or showings of fucking gratitude for the acting, writing, directing, and a host of other fucking impossibles surpassed by the one and only DEADWOOD?I'm personally offering a $50 bounty to the first one of you hoopleheads that brings me the head of one of these Emmy votin' cocksuckers. And the first one I hear bleet, "But Al, your show is too profane for the Emmy's." can come up to my office and discuss how they would like to be tossed off the fucking balcony. I will not stand idle and watch our fucking camp go unnoticed.
-
The Emmys are quite silly.
-
The reason why "Heroes" got nominated is because it's the emmy voters trying to be hip and nominate a show they thought most of us thought was cool last year. "Heroes" got a LOT of press, and so it was on the radar. Nevermind the fact that the show completely disappointed all of us with how it built up to what we believed was going to be an epic battle, but instead ended up as a whimper. Not to mention how uneven the writing and acting was for a lot of it as well. "Lost" on the other hand, really found itself again this year, and was by far the better show last year, and although I'm VERY happy that Michael Emerson and Terry O'Qinn got recognized, as did the writing and directing, the show was DEFINITELY better than "Heroes" and "Boston (what the fuck?) Legal" and should have been recognized for best drama. That one is a real puzzler!!!!
-
Six too many.
-
If there was an actor who did a better job of portraying a character getting put through hell I didn't see it. Gets an eye put out, kills his wife, goes on a drunken bender, cleans up, testifies at a trial that he killed his wife, then finds out he's a robot and makes you feel it. And he's not up for a nomination? Crazy talk.
-
Never saw the show myself, but it gave me an idea for a new Emmy category: Most Unfairly Canceled Show! No idea if Drive would win this year, but the category would definitely be hilarious.
-
Fuck Greys Anatomy Fuck Boston Legal, fuck Spader, fuck Shatner.
Screwed
BSG
LOST
Shield
and what does it take for the Wire to get one fucking nomination?
Goggins
Hogan
(fuckin nominators probably don't know who they are) -
Col. Tigh rocks. Even as a cylon.
-
Yeah for DRAMA getting a nod for entourage, but I suspect that Dwight Schrete will win this year.
-
Once again, the Emmy nominees are proof that Hollywood is completely OUT OF TOUCH with reality! They nominate their own buddies and congratulate one another for their work -- forgetting that we now understand that the members of the Academy really have no idea what is going on! Neglecting LOST (and a couple of other shows) is a JOKE!
-
Tastless fucking idiots.
According To Jim?!?!! Sweet weeping Jesus. -
the wire is pretty much the greatest show out there. I am shocked at Battlestar's writing nomination... really, truly shocked. i am disgusted that the sopranos got three... THREE... nominations in the same fucking catergory. obviously they're sending the show off on a high note, but to leave out david simon or the friday night lights crew? and to leave out dexter to a credits nod? jesus christ!
-
wtf?!?!!!

never get ANY recognition? it's the best show i've EVER seen, yet it's never gotten any award nominations. it's ridiculously critically acclaimed, everyone who discovers the show becomes hooked for life...i mean, good lord, what the hell do they have to do to get a little love?
-
In the alternate universe where quality of performance is the only standard, Olmos, McDonnell, Callis, Hogan, and Douglas would all have statues by now. Weak sauce.
-
Thank god the Emmy's don't matter beyond 1 week post where the local channels say "Emmy WInning: blah blah" Who cares. We all know that LOST WIRE ROME and BSG, heck WEEDS, SHIELD, all of these are so far beyond better than anything Emmy can watch. Titus and Pullo need to come back in time and kick some ass. That doesn't make sense, sorry just watched something about 2/2 men and got distracted by the shittiness
-
didn't people get the memo? CANCELLED! give it to the wire! fuck john goodman! michael k. williams! john doman! dominic west! and BSG's michael hogan! fuck! and Lost not being an outstanding drama? jesus christ, i can't believe it. well, i can believe it, because sstupid shit like this happens every year, but i always have a tough time digesting it. Emmy awards don't really change my life one way or another, but shows that deserve recognition should get it. period.
-
pretend it didn't get a single fucking nomination, and that's about how the Emmys look by ignoring The Wire. I've been annoyed about award snubs before, but this just completely robs the ceremony of any credibility whatsoever. I mean was there a single professional critic who did not call it the best show of 2006? (ok aside from Herc, and he had it at #2) Bah, this is such a joke it's not even funny.
-
season? If yes, did it get any technical nominations?
-
that is an amazing category. Thats some funny funny shit right there. The rest of the categories? Not so amazing. GO JOHN LOCKE!
-
Oh yeah what about Dexter, wheres the love for one of the best shows on TV?
-
Oh yeah what about Dexter, wheres the love for one of the best shows on TV?
-
The Emmys have surpassed the Grammys as the most pointless media awards. That's pathetic. BSG and Lost can get nominated for writing (woohoo!), but the only nominated drama with a writing nom is Sopranos. Everyone in "hollywood" still thinks of TV as the place where movie actors go to die. Boston Legal? Really? Excellence in television drama? 2 1/2 Men? I could get drunk and accidentally write the entire next season of that show and not notice. If it takes a million monkeys at a million typewriters a million years to write all of Shakespeare, three monkeys slapping their dicks on keyboards for half an hour can come up with 2 1/2 Men.
-
Is that a misprint or a joke? What the fuck?!
-
look at the finale of Heroes, and look at the finale of Lost. if you can tell me with a straight face that heroes deserves to be there more than lost, ill punch you in the ball sack. i watched heroes, it was fairly entertaining, but best DRAMA over LOST. get the fuck outa here.
-
It's good to see Dexter get some recognition, but it's a shame Veronica Mars has been snubbed again.
-
$1 to Shermdawg for that old-school expression.
Just kidding. 2.5 Men got through because it's pretty much the last multi-camera comedy left. Then again, How I Met Your Mother has bits of that show in their stool. -
;) But she got the nomination for her stabbing Chas. Logan and...where the fuck did he go, anyway? Is he alive? Dead? Hijacked the ambluance to chill with Behroooooooooooooz? What?
-
They should just hand Michael Emerson the award right now. He deserves to be recognized, and not just for Lost, for anything that he's been in. There's something special about the guy. His peformance in 3.20 'The Man Behind The Curtain' was mindblowing. It's a shame Matthew Fox wasn't up, and YES it should be in the Best Drama category instead of the seriously inferior Heroes. Heroes is only in because it was the new hyped show this season. It sucks donkey cunts.
-
for some time now, and besides those who have those golden statues on their mantle, who the fuck cares? Does an Emmy secure better ratings, or show security? Arrested Development disproves that. Despite my fondness for Monk, does Shaloub deserve all those wins? The whole six nominees in one category, five in another, makes me think the academy just makes up the rules as they see fit. The academy must think if they keep giving nods to David Kelly, they'll get a chance to bone Michelle Pfeiffer or something. Of course, picking "the best" of anything is going to leave out a lot of deserved favorites, but the bone headed choices made once again proves the Emmys are useless. Anybody know the host? I'll only watch if it's Colbert...which it better be.
-
Are the main networks buying these things? All my favorite shows are on fucking cable (The Shield, The Wire, Rescue Me (good for leary tho), The Riches) and the good ones on networks didn't get anything substantial. LOST had an incredible second half. Friday Night Lights was fantastic. Why are the nominations always mainstay/popular albeit admittedly dumb shows? I hope The Sopranos/30 Rock own that night.
-
Second year in a row the Nation will mourn as an aging crooner cockblocks our black-haired golden boy.
-
He freaking owned the Shield this season!
eyeh8daemeez -
I'd bump Heroes and House in favor of Galactica and Dexter.
-
I'd bump 2.5 Hombres in favor of Weeds.
-
Lost and Heroes? Not sci fi? Fantasy instead???
-

On a positive note, at least Rainn Wilson got some Emmy
by trader groucho 2
nom love.

Original Music and Lyrics
Family Guy, "My Drunken Irish Dad"
MADtv, "Merry Ex-Mas"
Saturday Night Live, "Dick in a Box"
Scrubs, "Everything Comes Down to Poo"
Scrubs, "Guy Love"
My inner 12-year-old is going, "huh huh huh... they said dick. and poo. i have a drunken irish dad (SMACK!). ouch!" -
In best drama series. F Boston Legal up its effing ass. Needs to be repeated at least 20 more times today.
-
'nuff said...
-
Terry is long overdue, he is the heart of Lost.
-
I'm tempted to agree, at least insofar as BL should have categorized under comedy.
-
Awards??
-
The good shows always get scammed with this tripe. The Shield has been fucked once again. The Wire has been scammed too.
-
retroactively for his role in The Stepfather. Best overlooked psycho role ever.
-
says it all. Unfuckingbelievable.
-
Vic Mackey or Jack Bauer?
24 Season 6 was clearly written by a table of 5th graders.
They really should've taken a year
off & hired DEPALMA for a 24 flick.
The property could've been turned into the best action flick since DIE HARD. Too bad... -
24 is so bad.LOST is the best show of the year and it's shut out. I guess my not-watching-the-Emmys streak will extend another year. Let's see, that makes it--yep, my entire life.
-
Just looking at the best drama catagory makes me want to cry. LOST picked up so much steam and rebuilt so much good will with it's second half that I thought there was no doubt. Friday Night Lights was the best Drama all year.
-
I love that show, charlie sheen is great. I still miss Spin City...
-
capital b capital s... Hoping at least that Terry O'Quinn or Emerson win the noms and that BSG takes some of the awards, though not betting on it, of course ....
-
VICTORY! Sure the Wire got screwed again, but at least Johnny Drama's fake For Your Consideration in Variety paid off. So glad voters finally recognized him b/c he's the best one on that show. Piven has just been doing a parody of himself lately. Can't believe Kiefer got a nod over Michael C. Hall for Dexter. 24 was just so unforgivably bad this season, and some of that blame has to rest on Jack's shoulders. How the Wire got shut out is beyond me, but did Boston Legal really need those noms? Hmm... happy for Gervais, Rainn Wilson and the Weeds ladies. Very surprised Dexter got the shaft, seeing as it was a critical darling. Glad the Sopranos finale got a writing nom. Regardless of how you think it ended, it was brilliant, which is why it got 3 nods in that category. Also happy for the two Lost supporting nods, but I would've liked to have seen Matthew Fox get a nod. He really carried the show this season and that season finale was heartbreaking. Oh well, another year, another missed opportunity for Emmy to shine its little Gold head on The Wire. When that show ends and goes quietly into the night, only then will people realize what they have just witnessed, which is one of the greatest TV shows of all-time.
-
Kiefer can't take that much blame for the previous season - he wasn't even in half the episodes. Seriously, he should have gotten a Best SUPPORTING actor nod at the MOST.
-
It just made me even angrier though - I thought PERHAPS Lost had submitted the one stupid episode with Jack's tattoo, but it was the FREAKIN' SEASON FINALE?! Pretty much the finest two hours of TV in the past 5 years AT LEAST. Heroes submitted Genesis - meh. I DO think that Zachary Quinto should have gotten a best supporting actor nod for his damn creepy Sylar.
-
That gave her what!?! for SNL!?
I mean I wanna fuck her too, but I wouldn't give her an emmy to do it. -
they're great!
-
He did a great job having to deal with a lot of emotional ups and downs. If anything, blame Spader's nom. His character can't really be a challenge for him anymore.
-
WTF!!! She's was great as Cylon #3 on BSG. For shame emmys!
-
she's a racist hag who'll shoot anyone!
-
And im dead serious. I have never had such feelings for television or film characters like I have for the ones on this show. R.I.P. Bodie. Season 5 hurry the hell up!
-
The only thing I wanted was How I Met Your Mother, Studio 60, and Always Sunny in Philadelphia to get recognition. Completely surprised and happy that Neil Patrick Harris got nominated, and that at least Schlamme got a nomination for directing. It's nice that Emerson got a nomination this year, but Fox really deserved one for Lost this year. I find it ridiculous that Two and Half Men can be up, but not Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and How I Met Your Mother did a fantastic job this year, and some writing recognition would have been nice. That being said, I don't know how Battlestar got both writing and directing nominations, for such a niche show like that, that's pretty ridiculous. I love The Wire as much as anybody, but I think we're used to it being shunned overall by now. Masi Oka doesn't deserve a nomination. He's that fun character everyone loves, but can you honestly say, for a DRAMA, he deserves a nomination more than Steven Weber, Bradley Whitford, anyone from The Wire,or Michael C Hall? So, overall I'm not as disappointed as I thought I might be, but it's still upsetting to see stuff like Ugly Betty and Two and a Half Men beating more deserving shows.
-
You wouldn't call those BSG nominations ridiculous. They wer three of the best episodes of the entire series. I'm happy for Oka, but Jack Coleman should have been given some consideration as well.
-
Since when is it a drama? Don't the Golden Globes classify Boston Legal as a comedy? The show has always mixed comedy and drama but the emphasis is clearly on comedy.
On the plus side, at least they didn't nominate 24 or Law & Order: SVU after the lousy seasons they had. -
First, Michael Hogan of BSG. His work is priceless this season. Holland Taylor of 2.5 Men. She has been in the business for years. Done comedy and drama. Always seems to shine above anyone she is sharing a scene with on television. Then the last one should go to John C. Mcginley of Scrubs. His work has been so consistent on that show from day one and still continues to blow me away.
-
how shitty these awards are. I've watched The wire from the beginning and it's never let me down. ever. There isn't a smarted show on television. Also the second half of Lost's 3rd season rocked the fuckin house. 30 rock is really great but Tina Fey shouldn't have gotten an acting nom.
-
as the single best episode of a TV series in 2006. The Wire's 'Final Grades' was the runnerup. Will post the URL for that when I get home.
-
Sure Hugh Laurie has it in the bag(kinda getting tired of him), but Michael C. Hall diserved at least a nomination. Kiefer got his win last year, so he probably would've been ok with sitting this one out.
Also, as much as I liked Heroes, no way is it better than Lost, Dexter, The Shield, just to name a few. Never watched Boston Legal, but that also seems kinda lame.
Also Elizabeth Mitchell and a few people on BSG(not that I was expecting any miracles) or The Shield(a nomination for Walton Goggins would've been sweet).
Oh well, the Emmy voting system sucks and that's that.
-
...is tough! Rainn, Pivin, and Dillon. I love them all, but I'm going to pull for "Johnny Drama".
-
WTF, Walt's performance on The Shield this year was one of the most raw, gut-wrenching arcs I've ever seen on television. The man goes to hell and back, and possibly to hell again, and that's just the first freakin' episode. POLITICALLY INCORRECT MATERIAL TO FOLLOW - And he gets passed up for a Grey's Anatomy FAGGOT; yes I heard from somewhere that that guy may be a FAGGOT, apparently someone called him a FAGGOT or something. It may have been in the news, because its so shocking that someone uses the word FAGGOT in this day and age, its not like the word FAGGOT has fallen out of popular useage or anything. I mean, kids on the playground say FAGGOT every day, do they have to go to, uhh "rehab" for it? Do I have to go to rehab now because I used the word FAGGOT?
-
WHERE THE FUCKITY FUCKITY FUCK FUCK FUCK WAS THE GODDAMN NOMINATIONS FOR "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia"???????? DO THESE SIMPLTON MOTHERFUCKERS NEED A FUCKING LAUGH TRACK TO SAY TO THEM "THIS IS FUNNY - AND YOU LIKE IT"????? CAN THESE ASSTARDS DROP THE PARIS HILTON NEWSFLASHES LONG ENOUGH TO SEE THAT SOMETHING ACTUALLY HUMORUS IS PLAYING ON THEIR TEE-VEE SETS????? WAS THE ADDITION OF DANNY DEVITO NOT ENOUGH??? DO YOU NEED A GLOSSARY TO HELP EXPLAIN HOW BECOMING CRACK ADDICTS CAN BE FUNNY????? CAN I HELP YOU COMTEMPLATE THE MEANING TO THE TITLE "Charlie Goes America All Over Everybody's Ass"?????? OH FUCK YOU COCKSUCKING SIMPLTONS!!!! FUCK YOU...THE AGENTS THAT VOTE ON YOUR BALLOTS....AND FUCK THAT LITTLE DOG AND/OR ADOPTED THIRD-WORLD CHILD YOU CARRY WITH YOU IN FRONT OF THE CAMERAS!!!!! FUCK YOU UP THE ASS!!!! DEEP UP THE ASS!!!! TO WHERE MY ENTIRE ARM SMELLS OF POO!!!! YOUR STINKY POO ALL UP AND DOWN MY ARM FROM IT BEING SO FAR UP YOUR EVIAN WASHED RECTUM!!!!!! YOU BETTER GRAB YOUR TOFU AND RUN FOR THE HILLS...CUZ CHICKEN GEORGE HAS GOT A BIG BUG ON HIS BACK AND A PAROLE HEARING NEXT WEEK!!!! AND I WILL VIOLATE THE POROLE AND COME TO SHOVE MY ARM UP EVERY ONE OF YOUR RECTUMS UNTIL IT COMES OUT YOUR MOUTH AND I WAVE HELLO TO ALL THE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO WATCH QUALITY TELEVISION LIKE "Always Sunny in Philly" AND "The Wire"!!!!!!! THE CHICKEN IS COMING....RUN RUN RUN!!!!!....And thus, got a private defense lawyer to do it right! - - - George, The 7th Chicken!!!!
-
That just invalidates the Emmys now and for all timme in my eyes. Her performance in the scene where she has "the talk" with her daughter was THE BEST PERFORMANCE I've ever seen on TV period. Boston Legal and Grey's Anatomy? Shame on those who voted. Bunch of self serving punks who no doubt will watch the screeners for these shows together in rehab.
-
yes.
it kind of is. -
You, sir, must live in flyover country.
-
And it's not particularly violent. Dexter is a blood splatter expert for Miami PD, so there are some shots of crime scenes. There are also some other pretty interesting images. Other than that, I don't want to spoil your treat.
-
Or did I not just offer you hoopleheads a $50 bounty for each and every one of those heathen Emmy worshippin' cocksuckers that dared to overlook and slight fucking DEADWOOD?
-
in favour of televisions worst program Grey's Anatomy, and super overhyped Sopranos... really hope Heroes takes it. How I met your mother is also the easy pick from cbs... NOT 2.5 men... Best choice made was jenna fischer's nom though... awesome and deserved
-
... I want The Sopranos to lose, lose lose!
-
The limits are not by show, but by submitting writer. As those Sopranos episodes had different writers, each writer can submit their own ep for consideration. Same logic behind having two or three actors from the same show up for the same award.
-
I hope THE WIRE's last season next year gets a full push from HBO, now that THE SOPRANOS and DEADWOOD are gone. JOHN FROM CINCINNATI is certainly not going to be an Emmy champion. Also, how the fuck does Gerald McRaney not get a nom for his work as Hearst? Cocksuckers.
-
fellas, i like jack bauer as much as the next guy, but it felt like kiefer was going through the motions this season. and the stuff with his brother and father didn't really resonate with me. i don't know, kiefer's a good actor and he's perfect for the role, but the story didn't serve him well this time around and i was just surprised and saddened to see him get the nod over Matthew Fox and Michael C. Hall, two much more deserving actors in terms of this past season of TV
-
Anyone But Sopranos!
-
We can whine all we want about who or which show isn't getting Emmy love, but we viewers live in a pretty damn rich TV age here. There's easily enough new gold to occupy 10-15 hours a week of viewing (allowing for the beauty of time-shifting via Tivo, DVR, and/or season DVDs), and nobody here (aside from moi) has even mentioned Comedy Central's Crown Jewels The Daily Show and the Colbert Report, or Sarah Silverman or Drawn Together. Us lardbutts have it pretty good, all things considered.
-
like noses.... I love Dexter. I even went to the Paley Fest Dexter event.
-
How can one show that is so revered by ALL TV critics keep getting shafted?? The Wire Season 4 was its best ever!! While i can understand it not getting acting noms (since there are just tooo many characters)..the fact it didnt get at least one writing nom & best drama is behond me.
24 was the worst season ever! and dont get me started about fucking Greys anatomy!! its soapy trash! the fact that its nom for best drama (over Wire, Dexter & The Shield) is laughable.
Good for the Sopranos for all the nods...they deserve everyone they got...while some epsiodes of season 6/7 were bad...the ones that were good were fucking brilliant (especially "Made in America")
food for thought:
Overlooked:
1. Walter Goggins - Best Supporting Actor - (the Shield) he was amazing this last season
2.Forrest Whittaker- Best Supporting Actor -(the Shield) just as good
3. Micheal C Hall - Best Actor - (Dexter) - he was just creepily brilliant
4. The Wire - for AT LEAST two writing noms
5. The Wire, The Shield, Dexter ALL should have been nom for Best Drama --- end of story...im sry besides BSG & Lost, the rest of the basic cable shows are fucking garbage..they dont even belong in the same breath as these others
FINALLY
Can someone please explain why everyone on the AICN boards has such a hard-on for Veronica Mars...i watched my first episode last week...its basically a teen dramady....now maybe if Ms.Bell does the whole show naked it would be a different story
-
Oh Yeah,
Deadwood got screwed too...its also better than all the crap on basic cable (except Lost & BSG)
Ian McShane got fucked as well!!
Oh well what do we expect from the Emmys
PS..(when Sopranos wins for best drama..wink wink)If they cut off James Gandophini again i will drive down to LA and shoot the producer & the band...who cuts off Tony Soprano anyways??? -
where John C. McGinley walks away with bupkis. Cocksuckers.
On the outre...really? "One, cut a hole in the box..." That was nominated? It better fucking win. And though I don't watch LOST, good for "...Mr. Hindle, or, as you're known around the hospital, Zepp." -
Wooo-fucking-hooo! Finally the show gets some respect from the Emmy's. The Peabody was awesome, but an Emmy is great too. The suits notice Emmy's, they don't notice Peabody's.Anyway, Deadwood, Rome, Rescue Me, The Shield, and The Wire all deserved more (thought not necessarily in that order). Finally, House pretty much sucked this year. The only thing worth watching on that show is Hugh Laurie. He is consistently brilliant. The writing, however, is sloppy, inaccurate (medically, even to a layperson), sentimental, and preachy.
-
Completely and utterly unsurprising as it was, the lack of nominations for The Wire was nonetheless disgraceful. Anyone who knows anything about quality tv must surely recognise the genius of the greatest drama series of all time. Truly pathetic. With the snub for The Wire, not to mention the snub for the incredible Michael C Hall, goes every grain of credibility this second rate award show has left. At least we recognise greatness when we see it.
-
Daughter of Jayne Mansfield and Mr. Universe Mickey Hargitay. It's Mariska Hargitay, not Mariska Hartigay, but who's counting anymore?
-
And if you don't have HBO (I sure as hell don't bother), then find a torrent. Or buy the DVDs. Or Netflix 'em. Whatever you have to do. The lack of a single nomimation given what a stunning and intricately laid out season The Wire had is an absolute travesty. The closing moments of the season finale alone are about as close as TV gets to actual 'art'.
-
Needs an American Nomination.
He already won a Bafta. -
"Oh my God I can't believe people don't watch The Wire. It's one of the greatest TV shows of all time!!! [MASSIVE SPOILER ABOUT THE WIRE]!"Hey thanks, fucktard. I was about to take your advice and then you ruined part of the enjoyment for me. I'm amazed your quest for recognition isn't going better.
-
where everyone knows who won already. They have decided already. go and read Anthony Holdens book on the Oscars. When Louis b Mayer set up the oscars 80+ years all the heads were Studio execs. The oscars were designed and controlled by all the Movie Studios. and it is the way that all these things work. It is undemocratic. They view shows like buffy to be outside the mainstream audience. This is not like festival awards where the audience gets to see the film before awards are handed out. in that case it is democratic, you get to see all films, then all the films are then judged by a panel whop are therein the audience and they go away and pick the winner or winners. the oscars the emmys are not a public vote, they are industry do like the oscars.
-
It is an outrage foxy got no noms for his incredible performance on the season three finale.
-
And the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to the Emmy Award goes to the Academy Award goes to THE WIRE!!!!
-
These Emmys suck
-
Going to be retooled as a new kind of car-fixer-upper show with an American Idol finalist as its host, or something.
-
Whats the story here people? it must be obvious to anyone who has watched a bit of telly over the past few years that 3 shows stand out above all others
1. The Wire
2/3 The Shield/The Sopranos
When I was a kid we had respect for all Americans ( thank you Hulk and BA), now I only have respect for HBO execs
Omar is the bomb, the pandemic, the plymouth rock -
YEAH
-
But I don't think it really matters. It'll have its final awesome season and the Emmys will continue to be irrelevant.
-
It's got to count for something that BSG and Lost were recognized for this. Three nominations for the Sopranos is excessive, especially for the finale, but I like the nods for the other 2 shows a lot. How the actors that play (Gauis, Tigh, Starbuck) and (Sawyer) should all be nominated. What about Rome? Great acting.
-
I'm rewatching season 2 of Rome and it's making me literally come in my pants - and that's nothing to do with the sex scenes...;) it's the acting (seriously, what a cast, and of ACTORS instead of crappy stunt casting), the perfect balance of drama, character humour, action with real danger and copious blood, and YES the fucking. Any show that uses the phrase 'Juno's cunt!' deserves a nom. I would say roll on season 3 but sadly there is no fucking justice in this world. I could watch season after season.
-
wtf is up with these old fucks. jean smart? out of everyone on 24, her? she was in what, 2 episodes last year for about 20 min full of screen time and all she did was stab her husband in the chest. that translates into an emmy nod?
this is just dumb as fuck. u wanna know how they pick this shit? Lil fuckin horny retarded monkeys sitting in their cages with little birthday hats on throwing their shit at actors pictures on the wall across from them and whoever isnt covered the most with monkey shit gets a nod. thats the only explanation. -
Well, the 2 best shows actually- Lost and The Wire. Fuck the Emmys.
-
is better and more dramatic than anything from Heroes i've seen so far.
-
Brotherhood and Dexter are fucking AMAZING and deserved acting nods for Michael C. Hall and Jason Isaacs.
-
FUCKING BSG BABY!!! FUCK YEAH!! BSG!!! BSG!!! BSG!!! BSG!!!
-
Damn it. Anyway, I can't wait for the new season. Hurry up damn it!!
-
Personally I don't think The Sopranos deserves much of anything after how piss poor most of that final (split) season was, but that's just me. I also think the final season of The Sopranos was a far bigger dive in quality than the last season of 24, and how it got three nominations for writing is beyond me. More due to the rep and popularity that the show has built over the years than due to the actual quality of the show this past season methinks. Personally I hope either Battlestar or Lost beat it for the writing category.
Mind you I also think that 24 wasn't anywhere near as bad as a lot of people make out this past season, but at the same time it was still definitely the weakest season of the show and did show a dip in quality and consistency of pacing, and as such the backlash against it isn't exactly unexpected, and the fact that Sutherland (who still did some quality work this season) is the shows only nom this year seems fair enough. 24's biggest problem now is it's repetition of concept and familiar storyline, as this past season definitely showed, and that's going to be it's biggest hurdle to overcome with the next season, even more so now that Fox put the nix on their planned storyline. Hopefully it'll make a strong comeback next season though. We'll see.
It's nice to see Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson up for Lost, Masi Oka for Heroes, and Kevin Dillon and Jeremy Piven up for Entourage, though Lorraine Bracco being nominated for Sopranos, given that her character has said or done very little this past season, and Aida Turturro up for playing the Janice, the most annoying character The Sopranos ever had, both seem more like they are there because the show has taken it's final bow, rather than because they were amongst the best performances of the past year. Edie Falco is a little more deserving, though again, much like the also nominated Gandolfini, I did feel like they were just going through the motions a bit this past season at times. If they were going to nominate anyone for this past season then it should have been one of the supporting characters who were still doing great work, like Paulie (Tony Sirico), or even more so this season, Bobby Bacala (Steve Schirripa). But it seems like they've gone the "star" route as far as who to nominate instead.
It's also nice to see John Goodman and Eli Wallach up for their great guest spost on the now defunct Studio 60, and likewise Ian McKellan for Extras, and Martin Landau for his spot on Entourage, and Mary Louise Parker getting a nod for Weeds is also a quality pick. Nice to see Denis Leary getting some recognition for Rescue Me as well, and Hugh Laurie and recurring guest David Morse did quality stuff on House too.
As for what's missing, I think that Dexter got royally screwed, definitely one of the best shows last season, it deserved a whole host of noms and got nothing apart from a couple of technical categories (which it still deserved). Jason Isaacs deserved recognition for his fantastic turn on Brotherhood, maybe his partner in crime, Stivi Paskoski, too. Weeds should have recieved more recognition than it did, likewise Rescue Me. And where's the love for The Shield? Meanwhile The Wire got royally screwed over and completely ignored, as usual. Likewise, Rome got utterly screwed in the acting categories, particularly Ray Stevenson (titus Pullo), Kevin McKidd (Lucius Vorenus) and James Purefoy (Mark Antony), who all did stellar work during the last season.
As usual, there's good, bad and downright ugly in these nominations, but I guess that's always the case... -
Its always fun to see Leno shut out of a category full of his peers.
-
but, as much as I love the Shield and Dexter, I gotta say that Doctor Who and Torchwood were robbed even more. How many Torchwood rip-offs do the networks have coming this fall? At least 2: the cop who can't die, and the whatever who can bring back the dead for brief periods of time.
-
...that Sutherland was the shows only *major* nom this year (I forgot about Jean Smart, who frankly didn't deserve it...she was good last season, this season she seemed too much of a caricature and telegraphed all her moves ahea of time way too much). Anyway to me it's Boston Legal and the awful Grey's Anatomy that have swallowed up way too many of the acting noms undeservedly this year. Boston is a fun show, but there's absolutely no character depth or growth to Spader or Shatner's characters, and they've been pretty much the same this past year as they ever was, so the noms seem a little silly and pointless. And Grey's Anatomy? I've got two words for that, and both of them are fuck off.

Gavin Hood to Direct Wolverine!
Source: Variety July 20, 2007
20th Century Fox has set Gavin Hood to direct Hugh Jackman in Wolverine, the "X-Men" spinoff that was written by David Benioff.
The film, which begins production in November for a 2008 release, will be produced by Lauren Shuler-Donner, Jackman and his Seed Productions partner John Palermo.
Hood is the South African director whose 2005 film Tsotsi won the foreign film Oscar. His next film, the thriller Rendition with Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal, opens on October 12.
Using several resources that include the Marvel Comics lore, along with the more recent Weapon X graphic novels by Frank Miller, Wolverine mixes action with an origin story about how Logan emerged from a barbaric experiment as an indestructible mutant with retractable razor-sharp claws.
After three "X-Men" films grossed over $1 billion worldwide, the studio has made Wolverine a top priority.
"I have long been a fan of Gavin's work and know he will make a masterful film with the character intensity and action beats the fans expect," said Jackman.

Total bullshit that the Studio 60 pilot isn't nominated for best drama whatever. It's up for best directing, but will probably lose to some bullshit half-flashback episode of lost.
-
Nominate Studio 60 for Best Drama for one good episode when the rest were mediocre to crappy. That doesnt make any sense.
-
Matthew Fos is Lost, His performance on that show weather you like his character or not is one of the best things on tv and a big part of watching Lost is knowing that Matthew Fox is gonna blow me away and most likely make me cry(fuck you) at least once during this season. His performance in through the looking glass is the best to grace tv this season.

A very good character on Entourage, and the visual gag callback to him on the season 4 premiere of Entourage was one of the funnier jokes they've done. And yes, it is sad to have an Emmy ceremony, and not have Sorkin at least nominated for writing, if for nothing more than the pilot. I still say Bradley Whitford fucking deserves SOMETHING for The Christmas Show. So, so good.
-
I know it seems really strange that Lost would get shafted since this season blew away every other tv show including Heroes. I can somehow understand how BSG could get snubbed since many ppl can't get past the sci-fi aspect. But nothing for The Wire??? I cannot understand how any tv awards show cannot come to the conclusion that The Wire every season has been possibly the best tv series ever created. It makes me think that the voters never really followed the series because anybody who has watched it knows that it is far better than Lost, BSG, Rome, Sopranos and Deadwood not to mention the dreck that actually got nominated.
-
Oh, well. They did win for season one, and I was really surprised they won so soon. Sopranos has only won once before. Amazing isn't it. It'll win this year, even though it shouldn't. Cut to Black My ASS David Chase!
-
series, since they were only 10 episodes or so. Rather unfair for shows to be on that short compete against those who make the commitment for 20-24 episode seasons. That way, you could open up drama so that BSG, FNL and the like could get a chance to compete against the best of the rest.
-
so he really just needs to get on with the dying.
-
The way Lost did at the end of the season. Every episode was well written, intense, and actually answered a ton of questions that had been bugging viewers. Kudos to Matthew Fox for carrying the show down the stretch and giving an amazing performance in the finale.
-
The Emmys will give the best drama award to some copy off of the Wire that averages 18 million viewers a week and is shown on ABC. Fuck the Emmys
-
Nice to see JOHNNY FUCKING DRAMA AND ARI GOLD nominated, as well as for writing. Really hope Dillon gets it. Piven, sadly, was shafted for the second season- he will never be more deserving than for the episode, Exodus. Dillon has really taken his role and run with it, Piven has gotten comfortable and the writers aren't giving him much new material(although, they already blew their wad with him in the second season, so yeah). Regardless, hope to see it finally pick up SOMETHING other than just nominations. As for the others, I really like 24 and Kiefer, but let's be honest, it was NOT AT ALL deserving of any noms this year. A bad hour for them, and they need to step it up.
-
Please direct your scorn toward that POS Boston Legal, which screwed Lost out of a drama series nomination. Heroes belonged there on merit, even taking into account the letdown that was their season finale.
*feels fiesty today*
Highlight of the nominations: BSG shockingly getting writing and directing drama series notices. A pleasant shock, but a shock nonetheless.
Lowlight: The near shutout of Friday Night Lights, as their hopes for a full 2nd season, I think took a big hit. Its loyalists were counting on multiple major noms, but could only muster 2. Feel bad for youse guys. -
Per Noble of the GoldDerby Emmy forum (margin of error 100%)
1. Genesis, Heroes (6 nominations; series, directing, art direction, picture editing, sound mixing, stunt coordination)
2. Second Coming, The Sopranos; My Musical, Scrubs, 5 each
4. Sopranos Home Movies, The Sopranos, 4
5. Pilot, Ugly Betty; The Coup, The Office; One Day in the Valley, Entourage; De Patre Vostro, Rome; Through the Looking Glass, Lost and Exodus: Part 2, BSG, 3 each
Most ammount of Emmy nominated episodes
1. Grey's Anatomy, 30 Rock (7 episodes nominated)
3. CSI, 6
4. Sopranos, Ugly Betty, The Office, Two and a Half Men, Deadwood, Desperate Housewives; My Name Is Earl, 5 each -
submitting the pilot episode 'Genesis', turned out to be the right decision. Now they can submit 5 other episodes for consideration for their 6-pack (2 tapes with 3 episodes each on them).

A bunch of pseudo-intellectual E.B Farnum types fawing over the Sopranos cause it's the only TV that's approved for watching in Hollywood. Everything else that's not a movie is simply beneath them. There has never been a more pointless award show. I never watch it, but it's hard not to comment on the noms.
I loved Heroes to death. One lackluster finale doesn't ruin a season anymore that a great finale can save a season. But even I wouldn't nominate it as a best drama. Dexter and Rome should have definitely been up there. Probably Deadwood as well.
Kiefer can't act. Or rather he can only ever act out the same expression, time and time again. Put him in a sitcom and he'll have the same zoned-out constipated expression. He's great in certain roles, but it ain't talent. He's just playing himself in every role he's ever been in. As a counter-example, Ian McShane is possibly the finest actor I've ever seen. I was a little so-so on S3 Deadwood, but McShane was at the top of his game the whole time. I mean, he's fuckin' riveting all the time and I can't say that of any other actor. The fact that he hasn't won anything alone delegitimizes the emmys for me. I suppose they are worried that he'd be getting a blow-job while giving his acceptance speech.
I wish Herc would organize a counter-Emmys that takes votes from people like us, who actually watch the fuckin' shows. Granted, that means Lost and BSG would sweep this year, despite having their worst seasons, but at least those shows are in the ballpark. And I suppose Tigh deserves something for his performance in Exodus Pt. II. TV is a big deal for me and others here. So why are we stuck with the Emmys?
-
I haven't seen season 4 yet, but I watched the first three seasons based on everyones adulation for it here. It's a good show. I have nothing bad to say about it. I'm looking forward to season 4 on DVD. But man, I just don't see why everyone thinks it's the second coming. Hardly any of the characters are likable and the stories are, well, basic crime stories and not much more. I'm not even sure why I like it as much as I do. It is a technically better show than the Sopranos (many shows are), but the entertainment value is lacking, IMO. Again, I like it and I'm not trying to start a Wire war, I'm just trying to understand why so many here consider it the best show in TV. Maybe it only becomes apparent in season 4?? I do love the closing credits music to an insane degree for some reason.
-
Pathetic. Granted, some people thought it had a lull - which I don't completely agree with - but its worst episodes are far better than most shows' best episodes. "Heroes"??? Could a show be more bland? The noms for Terry and Michael were nice, sure, but Matthew Fox was exceptional this year. How many characters go through transformations like his did from the season's beginning to end? Not to mention the flashbacks (and flashforwards). He went from reluctant and insecure to confident and became a leader. Yuck. Emmy = Grammy. Nothing but a popularity contest anymore.
-
But to say Kiefer is a good actor is to say that you've never seen him in anything else. From Young Guns on, it's been the same exact wooden performance. Good acting would be when you forget about that Kiefer guy (or anything else he's done) when you watch Jack Bauer.
-
ROME, SHIELD, BSG, LOST....All got FUCKED!!!Boycott the EMMYS!!!Fucking Bullshit!!!
-
The emmys have become a waste of time and a huge joke. After last year's debacle I didn't think it could get worse, but lo and behold it has. Lost has had an amazing third season, and no best drama nomination to show for it. What does Matthew Fox have to do to get a frakkin' nomination. He was terrific in the third season, not to mention one of the biggest screw overs I can think of - Elizabeth Mitchell not getting nominated. Her scene in "One of Us" where she confronts Ben in the kitchen alone had emmy written all over it. How Jean Smart can get nominated from 24 where she was in like what one episode this season is beyond me. The only good thing that can come away from this is hopefully Michael Emerson will win. I knew he was gold from the moment he debuted on Lost and was disappointed when he didn't get nominated last year. Hopefully the emmys will rectify that by giving him the award now. And lastly, I have to say the biggest letdown was no love for the best new show in my opinion, "Friday Night Lights." This show is amazing, an acting tour de force, with every scene leaving an emotional resonance. I really feel every episode of FNL is to be treasured. Anyways, how crap like Patricia Arquette & Boston Legal still gets nominated I sure as fuck don't know. I mean when is that show even on? Regardless, I will not be watching this crap emmy show this year or any year for that matter until the voters either all get lobotomies or get replaced by competent members. Fuck them.
-
And rightly so. Consider it the "Return of the King" version of the Emmys: Maybe not the strongest work, but a big fat huzzah for one of the top dramas in the history of television.
That Supporting Actor - Drama category is brutal: Just about anyone in there could win it. Terry O'Quinn ? Michael Emerson ? Imperioli ? Brutal.
