Maxwell Smart in glorious quicktime! Don't believe it? Would you believe iklipz? Okay, how about crappy MSN video?

Published at:  Jul 10, 2007 1:17:55 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Now, I've heard the script for this isn't all that great, but despite that I'm getting a good feeling about this movie. Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart just works for me.

Now the trailer's out and it's pretty funny in a slick, studio way. Plus General Zod and the fat dude from BORAT is in it, so bonus points for that. Enjoy!

    I loved Steve Carrell...

    by broosethescharuk

...about a year ago, but now he just gives me a funny sinking feeling. The Office seems to be settling in to overstay its welcome the way all successful American TV shows do, and the Evan Almighty trailers got more nauseating with each one released until there was no way I could allow myself to pay to see it. He's starting to seem as though being a star is more important than being funny. Best of luck with that, Steve! When are you gonna drop comedy and start moping around for an Oscar, ya fucking Tom Hanks!?

    99...

    by otisspofford

I too watched Get Smart in its original run - and 99 was the shit back then - they made gurls curvy then, fellers, so this Ann Hathaway is just the ticket. Get Smart was corny and silly, but was also conceived by Buck Henry and Mel Brooks... This looks truer to the original than The Nude Bomb - but the NB DID have a desk-mobile, and that was pretty damn funny... Okay, on to the F Troop movie!

That Rock movie trailer that played before Transformers? The one where he's the football player with an unexpected daughter? That film looks horrid! Worse than Vin Diesel's crap. This looks like it has promise. Maybe because Borat's buddy plays a baddie. As long as he doesn't get nude again!

Steve Carell lacks Don Adams' uncouth face

    by eraser_x

Don Adams *looked* out of place just standing still, and so we just want to look because it seems like he'll do something barbaric at any moment. Jim Carrey can make himself have that look, too. From the super-short teaser, it seems that Steve Carell is too deadpan and lacks the tightly (and successfully) restrained manic energy that Agent Smart used to have. Hopefully Carell brings enough other stuff to the role to somehow make up for the lack.

    No "Rock"--- FINALLY!

    by zerocorpse

About damned time Dwayne dropped "The Rock" from his name. "The Rock" was a character he played. Him continuing to be credited in movies as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was as dumb as if Sly Stalone credited himself as Sylvester "Rocky" Stalone in every other movie he made. It was ONE CHARACTER. Not the man.
Now... This looks promising. I miss Don Adams look and voice (especially his voice) but Carell has the slapstick deadpan thing down. Is Mel Brooks doing any writing? If so, then I'm there.

    Steve Carell will be great!

    by boris baddenov

True, he does have an "everyman" kind of face, not the quirky Don Adams-type face, BUT he can do great in-character facial expressions -- just remember his dead-on Uncle Arthur impression from the otherwise misfired "Bewitched" movie.

Unfortunately Mel Brooks is not writing the flick as he is working on the Young Frankenstein Broadway musical. Neither is Buck Henry. Both however gave their blessings towards the movie. That's gotta mean something right?

Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart is brillant casting! That's about as close as you're going to get to Don Adams today...Hell, it's better than Andy Dick as Maxwell Smart, Jr.! Does anybody remember the Get Smart revival series that briefly ran on Fox back in the 90's? Talk about "Kaos"...the phrase "Missed it by that much" doesen't even come close!
