AICN Anime-English Language Cast For Ghibli's Earthsea, 10 Minutes of Vexille Preview

Logo handmade by Bannister Column by Scott Green reports that the English language audio dub of Studio Ghibli's Tales from Earthsea includes: Sparrowhawk (aka Ged) - Timothy Dalton Cob - Willem Dafoe Arren - Matt Levin Hare - Cheech Marin Tenar - Mariska Hargitay Therru - Blaire Restaneo While an American release of the adaptation of Ursula K. Le Guin's novels is held up until 2009, with Sci-Fi Channel holding the North American film rights to the novels, the UK will be receiving a limited theatrical run starting August 3rd courtesy of Optimum. The English dub was also included on the Japanese DVD release of the Tales from Earthsea. One of the most talked about factors in the film was that it was directed by Goro Miyazaki, the son of Hayao Miyazaki. As a product by the child of the studio's, and perhaps the industry's most prominent figure, the film was forced to contend with high expectations and the standards of Ghibli's classic output. Tales from Earthsea also marked Goro Miyazaki's entrance into the field of animation. Previously, he run the Ghibli Museum.
Twitch reports that the first twelve minutes of Vexille are available streaming online at Tsutaya's site. The CG films was developed by the team behind the 2004 Appleseed and directed by Fumihiko Sori (Ping Pong). A review can be read here.

    Gay As In Buttfuck Asshole

    by godoffireinhell

If I fuck a girl in her asshole does that mean I'm gay?

    Timothy Dalton?

    by slfricky

I can't see how that would work...unless older, Archmage Ged narrates it and that's him?

    I think you meant "dub"

    by godoffireinhell

and not "sub"... "Sub" = "subtitled", "dub" = "dubbed", i.e. in English. Also, Ender Smites Foes is the most obvious homosexual in denial I've encountered on the internet today.

    I second all of this.

The dubs sucking and both of you flamers being Huge (capital H) flamers. And by flaming I mean buttfuck asshole. =D
Oh, except Earthsea. Earthsea looks badass. Just not the dub. Although... Willem Dafoe..... naaah. It'll still suck harder than both of these flamers sucking off strangers for quarters behind the Quick Stop. Cheers!

    Cool but flawed

    by Cobbio

"Vexille" looks cool but seems to suffer the same problems as "Appleseed": too much spectacle and zero character development. Action sequences lacking emotional investment are just eye candy. Perfect for teenage boys (Michael Bay's target demographic), but not for anyone else. Animated action films such as "Ghost in the Shell" and "The Incredibles" spent time developing characters, so that when action happened, it was that much more intense. "Vexille" seems like overcooked, emotionless eye candy.
Too bad. Opportunity wasted.

Can't they throw some money at Sci-Fi?

    by Johnno

I mean, that seriously sucks that we have to wait till 2009 to see the movie in North America... This is why piracy is a good thing!

    My main problem with APPLESEED

    by godoffireinhell

were those creepy CG people with their unnatural Playstation 1 style movements. Whenever it was just robots on screen I was fine. I also hated the use of random pop songs during some of the action scenes. I have no idea who the hell thinks that scoring a gunfight with a cheesy love song is a great idea but from the few reviews of VEXILLE I have read they ported all of those problems over into their new flick. Except that the motion capture is apparently better. I just hope that APPLESEED: EX MACHINA (made by a different team because the first part's guys were busy with... VEXILLE) and BLAME! will be better than that.

I thought Appleseed had a great soundtrack!

    by Johnno

Boom Boom Satellites are awesome! I bought their CD afterwards... it cost $40 and I had to import it but I'm pleased! Also I liked Appleseed. I have the first film and frankly the CG one is way better in my opinion... maybe because the animation in the first seemed quite dated to me. The CG one was overall just a good time! Vexille doesn't seem that appealing... but I'm looking forward to Ex Machina... and I really really hope they don't fuck up Blame! It has to be predominantly like a washed out black and white film with occasional colour. And with minimal amount of dialogue, just like the books. I don't care if it alienates audiences... I want that, and I will settle for nothing else!

I agree with you about BLAME!

    by godoffireinhell

Ideally it should be exactly like you said, like a washed out black and white film with occasional color and minimal dialogue and minutes of people just walking up endless flights of stairs or through equally endless corridors. Have you seen Mamoru Oshii's ANGEL'S EGG (Tenshi no Tamago)? It should be kind of like that. But I'm worried it will be just like the webisodes in terms of color, which means screamingly candy colored and neon-bright. Even Nihei's own color illustrations for the series are more colorful than I'd prefer. Oh well, there'll be a trailer on September 7th (on the promo DVD) and that's when we'll know what to expect.

    porco rosso

    by darwinwins

the french and english dubs for porco rosso were pretty awesome. the french version sounded more natural than either of the english and japanese tracks.
