Neil Gaiman goes to the HELLBOY 2 set and shares some pics!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I'm just finished catching up on email after the big ol' TRANSFORMERS Robosaurus screening. I don't think I'm going to write a review for that... It's been covered a lot already and I spent a lot of time on that set, dealing with the filmmakers directly, etc. Honestly, if I felt I had something more to add to what's been said already, I would still write up my thoughts, but look no further than Moriarty's great review for my impressions. I will say that more than anything I want to see a sequel. Keep the same team, give the writers a little more time to flesh out their script and start everything rocking from frame one.
But you don't give a shit about that. You're here because you clicked on the headline saying there were HELLBOY 2 pics, courtesy of Neil Gaiman. The pics are on his blog (click the below image to see the blog in question). I've known Guillermo in some capacity for almost 10 years now and I have yet to watch him shoot a movie, but the pics from the set look like its a ton of fun.
Here's one pic... click on in to get to the rest... and remember, Abe is in bright, harsh sunlight, so if he looks a little different I guarantee that's what it is. Enjoy!

And I just bought Absolute Sandman, cheerst to the Gaiman.
-
I can't WAIT to see this film. I loved the first one and I can only hope the sequel is bigger and better!
-
more Hellboy couldn't hurt.
-
get it right sinners!
-
Mr. Gaiman may be making a trip around to pick up some directorial pointers. That is, if he is still intending to direct the Death movie. And boy, do I hope he is.
-
Part of Hellboy 2 is filming at the Giants Causeway, (a plateau of volcanic hexagonal rocks) which is near my part of the world. Never seen a big Hollywood production being filmed so going to take the woofbag for a walk when its happening and try and get some sneaky pics! Quite a big coo for this part of the world, the only thing I can think of why its being shot here is that there's a big mythical legend type thing that surrounds the place. (Supposedly it was created by a giant, Finn McCool?....don't ask!....)
-
I don't have very high hopes for this one. I really hope Del Toro will make a good film.
-
I truly liked the first movie and I think this one would be good as well if not better. Considering how much times conversions from comic books to big screen aren't exactly perfect this is a great start. I remember what the director said in the first offical press conference in pre production at a comic con about the first Hellboy, he said he would do everything by the book and so it was. From all i can see, the design looks almost perfect for Abe, wishing well. Ciao.

I couldn't stand that camp amphibian thing. He's from the same school as Jar Jar "fackin" Binks.
-
The chick in the pictures. That's all I got.

...in the next expansion, and they need to have octopus mounts that have a speed bonus underwater, and walks like a spider on land. I love me some mermen. Speaking of which, what's up with that damn Black Lagoon remake?
-
Though I could have done without the whole love triangle thing. The scene where Hellboy is stalking the two of them on the rooftops and stops to have a chat with the kid was...questionable.
-
...but the love triangle, you're right about.
-
wasn't great, wasn't shit. Maybe the sequel can be better.
-
I thought there was talk of that a while back.
I am mean, those Mimic sequels rocked? Right up there with Mansquito. -
go watch ff1 or some other pos. hb1 is far better than most of the marvel garbage that hasnt worked. ok spiderman owns, then what? its all crap compared to hb1.

Anyway, that's crazy they're filming part of Hellboy 2 at the Giant's Causeway.
If the script requires a location that looks like hell on earth, may I recommend redneck Lisburn or piss-soaked Glengormley; might I also add that there's no need for costumes either - plenty of ugly trolls walking around. -
I loved the characters in the first film (Hellboy especially - he loves cats and works out while listening to Tom Waits! How can I not love a guy like that?) and the world they created, but it all went a bit wrong toward the end. Not a very satisfying conclusion, and the villain was on the weak side. The guy with sand for blood was much better than Rasputin. He was a cool-looking henchman. Two seems to be the magic number for comic book films, though, so I've got high hopes for this sequel.
-
That's all I got. You just DARE to contradict me.
-
but please, no Sandman film....it just cant be done justice in a film-although my mind does suggest a heavily made up Cillian Murphy as Morpheus and an equally made up Thora Birch as Death...Im get my head ate off for that one but Im serious...
-
...Hey, don't dis Neil, when you find something that works for you, you stick with it. It's kind of his logo at this point. What, he should change to earth tones and pinstrips?
-
I've never heard of the comic book (or comic book series, I suppose), still hasn't seen it and don't care to, but the film was damn entertaining. Not unlike another fun film based on something I couldn't care less about, "Daredevil".
-
Lovely, Lovely fish head.
-
left something to be desired. It may have been budgetary restrictions but the climax was a little anticlimactic. Other than that it was a great film with some wonderful characters.
-
At least he doesn't wear sunglasses 24/7 anymore.
-
is a fun movie, much better then most of the comic movies we being shat out lately. It was questionable at times but entertaining...that's all we can expect out of Hollywood anymore.
Gaiman is one of the most incredible people I've had the chance to sit and chat with on more then one occasion, if even for a few minutes. Godspeed on Death and Sandman, should they be approached. Please leave American Gods be... -
Ron Perlman was the highlight in the first film, however, the actual film wasn't all that great, even for a comic book film. Thus who gives a shit about his one eh?
-
Selma Blair as Death. Dont know wh I didnt think of that instantly in a Hellboy talkback....

clothes. His creativity and direction has changed. I have read a lot of his stuff, and he is obviously brilliant, but a lot of his work is suspect. Like American Gods, probably his worst and slowest book.
-
He suuuuuuuuuuucks monkey chode.
-
for suing mcfarlane when all he did was write for one issue, he can suck a bag of dicks in hell.
-
And he has the coolest friends: Stephen King, Mike Mignola, James Cameron, Neil Gaiman, me...
-
but the set pix? What was the point other than to show off his kid?
-
And this will suck because the first one sucked. Just a little better than Van Helsing or League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Transformers was kick ass though... so bring on that sequel too.
-
...the 21st Century KARLOFF!!! (or Chaney Snr - whichever you feel appropriate). I loved Hellboy, mainly 'cos of my admiration for Ron Pearlman. He's great - and it remains my favorite Marvel adaptation so far. Let's hope, in the wake of Pan's Labyrinth, that they've given GDT the budget to truly let rip. And, yes, more Abe please.
-
Del Toro is the man, can't wait for Hellboy 2. New cartoon movies are not bad either.
-
I was a fan mostly because Ron Perlman, the mythology, and DelToro's great atmosphere and humor. I'll admit the climax left a little to be desired, but it was a solid film. I'm really looking forward to a sequel, in part because I liked the first one and in part because I think there's still room for improvement.
-
And roccotheripper, are you REALLY defending Tood McFarlane over Niel Gaiman?!?!BWAAAAHAHAHAHA That's like getting pissed off at Alan Moore because he DARED to mess with Rob Liefeld's Supreme!!!Todd MacFarlane is a douche who happens to have a talent for making toys. Neil was totally in the right to sue AND WIN against Todd the Tool. Hahahahaha you're actually on Todd MacFarlane's side....HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I have never seen anything so fucking stupid...
-
I hadn't heard anything. I want Doug to get to talk after that betrayal that was Fantastic Four 2, but for continuity's sake I'd like to hear Pierce again. I heard Doug is playing 3 roles in Hellboy 2. I'm sure some of those will get to use his own voice.
-
Universal Studios bought the right and fund the movie, so only on HD DVD, but first oen is on gayest format, Blu-ray. I'm hugh fan of HELLBOY and loved the animted and first movie, looking forward to this one and also on HD DVD with U-Control.
-
One of the key reasons Todd Mcfaralne left Marvel and took half their stable of artists with him was because of loosing the creative rights to any characters he and others introduced while writing for Marvel. I don’t blame Marvel at all for taking ownership of any new characters their writers introduce because they are after all paying them to do the work. Todd was stupid enough to not put the same stipulation in his contracts. Sorry but because of that Neil Gaiman owns any intellectual prosperity he created or wrote into the Spawn books. Mcfarlane was totally not within his rights to continue using Gaiman’s characters or make toys out them without getting Neil’s permission or paying him for their use.
It is sad that they could not work out the problem without going to court though because they both totally rock. I would love to see a movie based on the book “Good Omens” that Gaiman co-wrote.
-
Loved Hellboy and the animated films so I'm anxiously awaiting this one.
-
And I'm not saying this, because his other two were Mimic and Blade 2! What's wrong with people when they aren't even able to enjoy a great movie like Hellboy? There was no emo-haircut, it was shorter than 2 hours and it's not based on a stupid toy commercial from the 80's. And what is more important: It's one fucking great movie!
P.S.: Am I the only one who thinks that not the movies are getting dumber, but the audiences? -
Insofar as how the movie played out. I think the first 1/3 was way better than the last 1/3. I still enjoyed most of it, and that's entirely Pearlman's doing, he's fucking awesome. I'll take good characters in crap stories over the other way around any day.
-
I've penciled ths one in as a must see and a must buy dvd.
-
I'm a fan of Mignola's COMIC. The first movie had its ups and downs but all in all it was alright. They needed to stick w/ one Mignola story line instead of diluting them. They just need to do 'The Right Hand of Doom' - that would kick some serious ass...
-
and consequently not very good either. A failed writing experiment.
-
Yes, anything sprinkled with Del Toro's magic dust is worth checking out. Bring on Stay Puft Marshmallow Ent!!! ;)
-
it was good.
-
goth retard.
Hellboy rocks. -
I'm contemplating the fun the sequel will provide. It's that simple. And yes the first movie kicked ass. More please.

Abe is responsible for one of the most tooth-grinding moments for me in the first HELLBOY. It comes when he's giving hispep talk and showing off his unsolved Rubik's Cube. He says: "If there's trouble, all us freaks have is each other." Now, Abe is voiced by David Hyde Pierce, so that might be the reason it jars me so badly, but that terrible grammar just smacks me in the face coming from that voice and that character every time. It just seems like, for such a big expression of sentiment, they would want to get it right, and the right way to say that is: "If there's trouble, all we freaks have is each other."
If this puzzles you, I'll break it down for you. If you're ever in a situation where you're not sure whether you should use I or Me or Us or We, just take away the things that confuse you, like this:
If there's trouble, all us freaks have is each other.
If there's trouble, all us have is eachother.
All us have is eachother.
Now, would you EVER SAY "all us have is eachother?" Well, ok, sure, maybe in the era of "All your base are belong to us" it doesn't sound so bad. But, you know what I mean.
All we have is eachother.
If there's trouble, all we have is eachother.
If there's trouble, all we freaks have is each other.
God, that annoys me. It's a small gripe, but I hope to gosh whoever edits this script makes sure it doesn't happen again. Abe is clearly meant to be at least somewhat intelligent. -
Grammar geeks will rule the planet! Unite! One of us! One of us!

i have heard many a denunciation of the hellboy movie, most often from those who never read the comics. i don't get it. i agree that the ending felt rushed, but is that enough to make the film a failure? i don't think so. i love the movie and was downright giddy when i found out the sequel was definitely a go. the reason why i care that neil gaiman's daughter got to visit the set somehow escapes me. am i to enviously glower at her? i'll pass. whatevs, just please let the next hellboy 2 talkback have some more substantive impetus.
-
He says that's not him and he's never heard of this Gaiman "gay-man." His words not mine.
-
Why, I oughta....
-
(sings to the tune of the Transformers theme...) "Mi-chael Bay! Jacks off in your eyes!"
-
...but there was room for improvement. So I'm glad this one is getting made as well. Also, while not a hardcore fan, I was always a casual Hellboy comic reader. And I think you've gotta admit, short of going CGI, they got the right man to play the part.
-
I wonder why pj has such things (including the hobbit) not picked instead of a likely direct to dvd movie (no offense to the man or his stuff)
