Wanna Know A Little More About CLOVERFIELD?! Like, Say, Who’s Directing It?!
Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here. It’s funny... I’m getting letters now from other webmasters saying that they’re getting yelled at for publishing anything about this film. Yet so far, I haven’t heard one word back from Bad Robot or Paramount, and we’re the one place these stories have been breaking. We were the ones who first told you that it’s a giant monster movie featuring something that’s being called “The Parasite” at the moment. We’re the ones who told you that Drew Godard is writing the film. We brought you the first descriptions of the teaser trailer that will be attached to the prints of TRANSFORMERS everyone will be seeing next week. And now... now we can tell you who is directing the film. It’s amazing to me how secretive this one is. Personally, I think it sounds great, and all the stuff I’ve heard about the script and the designs for the monster and the work they’ve been doing on the Paramount lot and over at the offices on Cloverfield (the reason for the fake title, no doubt) makes me think this is going to be one groovy movie. Matt Reeves, a writer on FELICITY, whose only feature film so far is THE PALLBEARER with David Schwimmer and Gwenyth Paltrow, is the man who will be calling the shots onset. There are a lot of Bad Robot alumni involved in this one, but Reeves is the guy I’m most interested in at the moment. He’s directed episodes of shows like FELICITY, CONVICTION, HOMICIDE, and RELATIVITY, and he was the guy who directed the pilot for MIRACLES in 2003. I love the notion of a giant monster movie that’s all being shot from the POV of handheld video cameras, like a real event unfolding, and I wish him well with this one. Now I just need to see that teaser finally. Remember... when you see it, there’s no title on it yet. That’s because the film doesn’t have a name at the moment, or if it does, that’s been kept completely hush-hush. For now, CLOVERFIELD is just what they’re calling it to help confuse the issue. I’m itching for someone over there to finally break their silence and speak up, ‘cause I’d love to know more. For now, here’s the tip I got today:
CLOVERFIELD, the hush hush sci-fi flick, is being directed by Matt Reeves. Matt Reeves, if you recall was creator of Felicity and screenwriter of such films as The Yards and Under Siege 2. One of the producers on this flick is Bryan Burk, a producer on LOST and Abrams' upcoming STAR TREK film.

i cannot wait for this. drew godard and matt reeves have made so many awesome hours of tv. plus drew goddard learned from the best: joss whedon.
-
I wonder what kind of monster this is going to be.
-
Where is your Transformers review Mori? :P *ahem* Putting my impatience aside for a moment though, Cloverfield does sound quite promising, let's hope it delivers.
-
Two of the whinest people on the planet - The Pallbearer - the corpse was the lucky one in that movie.
-
Because the Pallbearer and Felicity were like, the shit.
-
'Nuff said. I am there, man.
-
This could be good, I suppose, but I never liked "Felicity," even though it was JJ Abrams' breakout party. I don't really care about the visuals of this film, because hand-held visuals with piss-poor characters equals piss-poor film. Give us something interesting from a character standpoint. Drew Goddard is a smart writer, and I'm encouraged by his involvement.
The hype seems to be overshadowing the substance of this film right now. Could be good, could totally suck. I'm hoping it's the former.
-
Finally a remake of the classic 3-d film from 1982, Parasite! Demi Moore's first film role, and the first futuristic horror films. Praise the Gods! Maybe now I can finally get to see my Deadly Spawn and Metal Storm remakes done, if Tim Story is too busy. Maybe David Fury could write them!
-
Conversations with Dead Parasites, if you wanna know.
-
the fucking PALLBEARER? well whatever, it's JJ abrams so it will be directed-by-committee bullshit no matter who is the 'director' in name
-
Lies My Parasite Told Me.....
-
I really didn't want to see Transformers. Perhaps I can make this a pop in, pop out deal and just get the previews while I'm on the way to some other movie.
-
Hopefully this movie is more along the lines of something like "The Host" and not along the lines of say, evolution.
-
it's gotta be good, right?
sigh...
-
to a trailer as loudly as they did this one. One of the best I've ever seen. Of course, I am holding out hopes that it's all a big ruse and tied into the fourth season of "Lost."
-
off the bible thumpers a while back - "Dirty Girls". Caleb was a bad mofo.
-
It gives nothing away. Part of what's appealed to me about this whole project so far is the secrecy surrounding it. The tidbits that AICN have revealed sound awsome. But I don't think I want to know much more. Not really familiar with this director's work. I was hoping JJ himself might direct it.
-
I like innovative. Innovate away, Mr. Reeves!
-
got mixed reviews when it was first released so i was surprised when i saw this film and liked it much more than i was expecting to. Great cinematography too. btw, Drew Goddard is the man.
-
Vern will be all over this!
-
don't worry; in about 9-12 months, we'll see what super-secret nugget this bullshit is hiding. monster movie my ass.
-
For some reason I was really starting to like that name. Don't ask me why. I wish I hadn't read anything about this. I really would have liked to have had this teaser completely take me by surprise. Oh well, that just what I get for being a nosy nerd, i guess.
-
Dude, my ass is in a seat for this fucker. Start movie NOW!
-
directed by up-and-comer J.J. Abrams is being dumped out in January: Abrams isn't even directing. Excitement killed. (I wonder if filmmakers cry a little inside when the studio tells them about a January release date. "But hold on, it'll be a good movie, sir! Maybe not a May, but definitely a March! A February at least!")
-
And all these snobby haters will eat CROWWWWWWWWWWW
-
Stuff like this can be annoying pretty quick. But that doesn'T mean that I don't wanna watch it. :)
-
Fuuuuuck! Imagine if it is LOST related. That would be awesome - and EXACTLY the kind of thing they would do. Last year we had the LOST EXPERIENCE. This year- nothing, so far. What if CLOVERFIELD is somehow part of the LOST story. That would be SO cool!
-
Since all your doing is relentlessly shilling their product.

Wow, a film I haven't heard of and still don't care...
by Stalin vs Predator
That studio certainly does a great job promoting it. Three thumbs up!

the smoke monster in lost could have followed jack off the island, but we all know that ain't gonna happen.
-
Snakes on a Plane. There gonna let computer geeks look it up on the internet and build a big fanbase. Then again, look how SOAP did.

Only 1 night after the trailer is released and we have fake plots. I found this off Wikipedia, I couldn't resist sharing: "Cloverfield is the working title of the new J.J. Abrams produced film concerning a creature called "The Parasite". The Parasite was created due to the rampant rise in pre-marital sex and loss of morals in New York. It feeds upon the city, 'purifying' it. Several characters with digital cameras capture the fall of America's Babylon as they try to escape. Unknown to them, a homosexual character is in their midst and puts the entire group in danger as the Parasite is drawn to his immorality and must satisfy it's uncontrollable urge to destroy it." On the Total BS scale of 1-10, that plot's a 50.

...LAVOS...The Parasite...The scream...The Fire On The Sky...Modern Era... Some how, even though it`s not likely...After the explosion and the falling debris, I was sitting and watching amaze, surprised like a little child, about, how it somehow, for some reason, LAVOS was the first thing that came across my mind. For those of you that don`t know, It`z from a classic game called "Chrono Trigger" from the SNES, way back. Just my two cents of what I thing would be an excellent possibility. Call me crazy, who knows...But by the character design...probably not likely.
-
I see a trailer like this, and I imagine a giant mecha-turtle ripping New York City to shreds. It's been thirty years...about time Spectra got their long-awaited revenge! HaHaHaHa!!!!
-
looks awesome, the fact it comes out of nowhere. big monsters rule. I wish it was a godzilla movie.
-
Oh man...when I saw this trailer before watching the piece of shit Transformers I was completely blown away! Then, of course, came the God awful Michael Bay crap. The Cloverfield trailer saved the experience and was worth the price of admission. Michael Bay is an asshole and I hope that motherfucker gets dropped in a vat of acid. I hate him. He is a fucking punk.
-
..or rather have ya considered, Mori, that it assumed that the daying conventions follow inculcated conventions of the US(month/day/year). What if the trailer is dated Mil /UK / Euro / Asia..as in (day/ month/ year). 1 Aug 2008. hmmm, would give more time to complete if rumours of no principal photography yet. And, coincidently, 1 Aug 2008 just happens to be a Total Solar Eclipse of the Midnight Sun variety.
info: http://tinyurl.com/33bwpx
..grasping. flippin JJ.

Went to than haas was right website. Checked out the page's source. Got this from it.... "...war came, no longer from the elemental nor from the star's rain of fire. The world was again remade, and the glow was as the coming of the sun upon the Earth. The children of the gods were again too few, scattered and divided and among them walked the ancients and those whose thoughts were not as to the towers and the marvels, but to the End and the destruction of the Earth and to the fires from which nothing could escape."
-
The trailer for "Cloverfield" was fricking sweet. That's all I got.
-
How do you get 18 equaling August? Did the old Europeans have 6 other months we don't know about?
-
Spectra?!... That my man, was an awesome-search-my-mental-rolodex-for the reference moment! Made me crack up. I loved that trailer, it made me both want to look it up, and also, just wait and see what's revealed next. I think I'll wait. And, I don't care, I had a good time at Transformers.
-
it was spelled right, but then it got spaced weird when I posted. Kooky.
-
rumor says its Voltron
-
Hooooooooooooo!
-
You can hear Lion-O roaring in the background. The Thundercats never liked New York.
-
Now that I think of it, I'm not so sure Battle of the Planets would be JJ Abram's style. More likely this is a John Christopher/White Mountains trilogy sort of thing, with the tripods and all.
-
has anyone gotten the ethanhaaswasright email and been able to figure anything out from there?
-
Hope it's cool whatever it is. I like the idea of a giant monster movie shot with the 'cam.

Your ability to sleuth out information that has been common knowledge on about a thousand movie sites for the past 4 days never ceases to astound me. Since the trailer came out it has been vitually impossible to seach for the trailer without getting 2 things: a 'video has been removed by Youtube' error over and over again, and all the info you think you just scooped.
-
... way to miss the point. http://tinyurl.com/37dnyr Read that story. Read what's in it. Read the date. Everyone else's reporting simply repeated AS FACT things that I broke on the 25th of June. No one else anywhere printed that before us. Period.

While taking a shower a few minutes ago, I came up with something creative and insightful to post regarding the Cloverfield trailer. Then I realized how stupid all this is. I mean, think about it; by participating in this board, all we're doing is building hype for the film when the studio should be doing it themselves. I'm not getting paid for this, and neither are any of you. Furthermore, I'm sick and tired of all this "let's shift the cost to the consumer" BS that's becoming so standard in our economy. I say let Paramount bear their own marketing costs, and stop wasting our valuable time. P.S. The Statue of Liberty head looks fake!
