Mystery Science Theatre 3000 Vol. 11
serves up another four classic movies to be mocked by puppets pretending to be robots:
1) “Ring of Terror” (1962) (2.6) is about a frat pledge charged with retrieving the ring off a corpse. The Comedy Channel originally cablecast it Nov. 3, 1990. Joel indulges a life-size Operation game. A vacuum cleaner is autopsied. The Will Geer Institute For Truss Research is referenced. “If Chauffeurs Ruled The World” is sung.
2) “Indestructible Man” (1956) (4.9) is about an executed criminal, resurrected by scientists, who seeks vengeance upon his traitorous cohorts. Comedy Central originally cablecast it Aug. 19, 1992. Cereal novels are introduced. There’s trouble in the undersea kingdom. Joel ponders what he would do if rendered indestructible. A cop/donut joke truce is drafted.
3) “Tormented” (1960) (4.14) is about a jazz pianist who finds his upcoming wedding spoiled by the ghost of the woman he killed. Comedy Central originally cablecast it Sept. 26, 1992. The Aunt Catherine Wheel and The Drinking Jacket debut. Joel is blackmailed from inside a duct. Pop singers Michael Bolton and Lionel Ritchie are flung from a lighthouse.
4) “Horrors of Spider Island” (1960) (10.11) is about a giant spider on a deserted island that turns a marooned fellow into a spider-man. The SciFi Channel originally cablecast it July 25, 1999, and it was the antepenultimate MST3K. Crow’s second career as a syndicated newspaper columnist is exposed. Pearl relocates Castle Forrester. The bots trap Mike in a giant web, and he is himself transformed into a spider-man.
Amazon has this on the set’s extras:
Extras include theatrical trailers for all of the films save Ring of Terror; a brief interview with Tormented director Bert I. Gordon, his daughter Susan, and star Joseph Turkel, and wrap-arounds from the syndicated Mystery Science Hour, with Mike Nelson as an obsequious Jack Perkins, are also included. However, the best supplement is the second MST3K Jukebox, which compiles some of the show's funniest and most memorable musical numbers, including "Sidehackin'," Joel and the 'bots' garage-rock tribute to The Sidehackers and the incredible "Patrick Swayze Christmas" from Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.

The New Adventures of Superman: The Complete Animated Series
contains the 35 six-minute animated “Superman” shorts Filmation produced for CBS’ 1966-1967 Saturday-morning TV season. These were stiff and crude and cheap (Filmation was the same company that went on to make “The Archie Show” and the animated “Star Trek” and “Fat Albert”), but they gave us our first non-print incarnations of such DC icons as Brainiac, Mxyzptlk, The Parasite and Toyman.
Veteran DC Comics writer George Kashdan was among those brought on to script episodes. The voices of Lois and Clark were provided by Joan Alexander and Bud Collyer, the same actors who provided those voices in the 17 far more sophisticated Fleisher theatrical shorts of the early 1940s. “Caddyshack’s” Ted Knight played the 1960s Perry White.
“The New Adventures of Superman” morphed into “The Superman/Aquaman Hour” for 1967/1968, then into “The Batman/Superman Hour” for 1968/69. Note please that the 32 “Superman” segments created for these two later Filmation series are not included on the set.
The new set
comes with a minidoc titled “Superman in ’66.”

The New Adventures of Batman
was a Filmation project for CBS that came along in 1977. It was memorable for employing the voices of Adam West and Burt Ward, who played the live-action Batman and Robin a decade earlier.
The series also featured Batgirl and revived as a regular character Bat-Mite, a Mxyzptlkian imp from another dimension who was phased out of the Batman comic books a decade earlier.
Weirdly, different versions of Batman and Robin, with different voices, were at the same time members of Hanna-Barbara’s “Super Friends” over on ABC. For some reason it was cool for two studios and two networks to share the Caped Crusader and The Boy Wonder, but the two series had exclusives on certain villains: “Challenge of the Super Friends” was not permitted to use The Joker and most of the other Bat-villains while “The New Adventures of Batman” was not allowed use of Scarecrow or The Riddler.
All 16 half-hour episodes are included on the new complete series set
as well as commentaries on two episodes by Filmation founder Lou Scheimer and Filmation historian Michael Swanigan. The set also contains a minidoc, "Dark Vs. Light: Filmation and the Batman."

In the same list as MST3k?? Herc... have you no shame?
-
they had to call it complete series instead of season 1. assholes. hd net please pick up another season
-
That is note worthy???
-
I used to love watching that show when I was a kid on WGN. With that said, that Bozo DVD is as frightening as it gets.
-
Kidding. To the point, will Sunny please stop promoting itself as The Danny DeVito Show? It's incredibly obvious what they're doing.
-
so will the bozo dvds include any of the cartoons that would air as part of show.
i remember for awhile my only way of watching transformers was when they had the episodes durring the bozo show. -
Adam Baldwin is voicing Superman and James Marsters is Lex Luthor. No tie in to the "Timm-Verse" and no mention of any other heroes at all, or of the "Reign of Supermen" sounds like "Brainac Attacks" all over again.
-
I'll never forget the horror of trying to sit through that movie. It was nice to get Tim Daly back on as Superman but wow was it just horrible. It didn't help matters that it looked like the "Timm-verse" either. Atleast with Doomsday I can't picture them dumbing down Luthor and I bet the fight itself should be pretty good. Not expecting anything great but a decent afternoon time-waster at the least.
-
I needs me THAT one on DVD! Please say it'll happen someday.
-
Atleast of what I remember of it. I wouldn't be surprised if they hold onto that series until the next Superman movie makes it's rounds.
I'm also hoping that one of these days we'll finally get that Silver Surfer series put on DVD. -
I've always wanted to see it, but, is it worth it?
-
It's not as maniacally brilliant as BOTTOM but it's still great.
-
Whats with the Simpsons cover looks very weird, and bozo reminds me of pennywise "Everything comes down here hehehehe"
-
goddamn nbc
-
..a little less inspired with each season that comes out on DVD. Snowball II and a doodle of Santa's Little Helper... er, what?
-
'bout time...season 1 came out, what, 4 years ago?
-
Unless it's lesbian porn, who buys that stuff?
-
Some of the stuff included in this list is head scratching inducing.
-
It started off pretty damned good, and didn’t waver too badly through it’s run. You really have to have been living in the 80’s in the UK to know why so much venom was reserved for the Conservative Party. They made Bushy boy seem like Jesus. Put it this way the lead character is called BASTARD… sorry B’stard. Might have lost a bit of it’s edge and shock value now but I imagine it’s still pretty relevant if not more so in recent years.
-
Not much for me to choose from... Don't care much for Bruce.
http://tinyurl.com/2gunhz -
Better late than never...now only if they had some good shows!
-
Definitely sounds like it's worth a look.
-
As much as I hate Batmite (as an adult), I might check out this DVD since I did love the show when I was a kid. At the time I thought it was far better than the Superfriends. Glad they're releasing more MST3K! The Tick animated rules! Might check out The New Statesman since I liked Rick Mayal in the Young Ones. Thanks for the heads up Herc!
-
A modern Columbo...gotta love him!
-
Go on Amazon.com and do a search for "Simpsons Tenth," then click on the regular packaging version. The cover features Bart driving the school bus, if I recall correctly.
-
Look closer.
-
Don't be a Bozo hater.
-
Maybe I should have sent some cases of Irish Whiskey to save the Black Donnelly's. I thought the show was great, but obviously Wedding Crashers was better. I hope the complete series shows the rest of the episodes not aired.
-
The Black Donnellys complete series, and... The Thunderbirds complete series...
...50 bucks to anyone who can tell which show *isn't* cast entirely by puppets... -
Ahhh, the good old days of Joel and the 'bots. Mike and the 'bots was pretty damn cool too. Comedy that pretty rare these days. And Heroes' first season was incredible. Question is: Can they continue the quality of scripts and acting? FX will not be a problem. Oh well, time to start saving my pennies.
-
the black and white shorts they would run? One was on a Girls college where they just taught them ironing, cleaning, cooking etc. The other was a small town parade with the "family of shame" float. These were actual short films from the 40's and 50's that must have run between shows at the theatre. There were more but those two were my favorites.
-
Jem and the Holograms ... versus the Misfits!!!
Hot 80s chick-hair-metal-ish cartoons. -

Herc, you still got the wrong listing for Star Trek TNG
by allpowerfulwizardofoz
http://tinyurl.com/29lp5c section that offer the box set at a lower price then paying for it new. Some of those are imports though so be careful.
-
I had a paragraph typed and all that shows up is the link?
Anyway what I said was that the listing I've provided is the OFFICIAL Amazon.com listing for the Star Trek TNG box set with a list price of $370.99, $25 cheaper then the one Herc has listed which is not the right listing. You will also notice that there are 2nd hand sellers in the used section which offer the box set at a much lower price but be careful becasue some of these are imports and it's unclear what the quality is. -
Is the UCB Season 2 for real? Finally? And could season 3 be far behind? I so desperately want to watch the Real World and Mafia/sperm episodes again.
-
That Oct. 2 TNG set was selling for $304 last week; don't be surprised if we see another huge price-drop on that set before its street date.
-
And who knew that George Michael Bluth was in "Killers From Space"?
-
Clowns are evil! Don't fall asleep, they'll eat you alive.
-
It had commentaries and everything. That's just fucked up...
-
Sweet! And I love the old Batman and Supes cartoons. I will be getting them.
-
There is a God! Or at least an underground network of anti-establishment conspirators. I thought this would never see the light of day. Gods be praised!
-
its just some placeholder type thing...tvshowsondvd released the actual cover a while ago...it shows bart having driven a car through the house or something. its done in the same style as the last 4 (non head case style).
-
YES! UCB season 2! It's gonna happen!
-
WTF was the delay? And the Universal released Woody Woodpecker set comes out in JULY. Woo-Hoo! Woody rules.
-
I've only gone up to vol6 of the MST3K sets but there are a few of those black and white shorts included thought the sets. If I recall there was even a DVD released of the "classic" shorts (Mr. B Natural and the World of Tomorrow among them). I've stopped buying the sets and just get my episodes via the tape exchange now. Living in Minneapolis it's easier then heck to find the pre-SciFi channel episodes I want.

The Film Crew brings the boys back together. They're releasing 4 new movies on DVD. No robots this time though.

Looks good, glad to see an alternative to RiffTrax. Would be great if someone could find the hole Joel is hiding in and coax him out to do some of this stuff.
-
Someone may actually want it. We all have our little pet interests we can't explain. For instance, I love Gilmore Girls.
-
I loved that show - Rik Mayall was great in it, you may remember him as Lord Flashheart in Blackadder and in the Young Ones. I think it will hold up, politicians as bastards never really goes out of style.
-
Also, Pirates of Dark Water. Immediately.
-
how about Peter Pan and the Pirates? Great show with Tim Curry as the voice of Hook.
-
Pennywise.
-
I totally forgot about Pirates of Dark Water! That was a great show, though I could never seem to watch any episode in order and made it confusing at times. They were after the 13 crystals or something, right?
-
This is the cartoon that was a big deal when I was a kid (yes, that means I'm really old). Granted, the animation was very clunky, and the stories insipid, but at least they didn't try to "re-imagine" the character, or try to ultra-stylize the artwork. It was as true to the comics as they could manage at the time -- a nice change of pace compared to some of the artsy-fartsy stuff of today.
The unfortunate thing about this set is that they spent absolutely nothing on the production. The cartoons are not digitally remastered, or color enhanced at all -- the quality is pretty poor, the jewel case is pretty lame, and there are almost no extras to speak of. Nonetheless, if these cartoons are something you remember fondly, as I do, they're worth the $20.00 price tag. -
I'm on the fence waiting to see what happens with the HD thing. SD looks great, but HD is truly awesome on a 1080p set. Up until now, it's not been that hard to resist because nothing I really care about has come out on HD-DVD or Blue Ray. Now enters HEROES on HD-DVD, wow, that makes me want to jump out and get that $300 1080i player today. But, as soon as I do, Battlestar Galactica may come out on Blue Ray tomorrow. That's an example of course, but it sums up my frustration. What to do, what to do. Don't be tempted and wait some more I guess, but then should I continue the collection of SD DVD's. I read a news headline sometime last week about a chip that's been developed that will allow a single machine to play both formats. Is that were all of this is headed, two formats from now on, it's ridiculous. I re-watch DVD's so little, that I'm not willing to keep buying them over and over again every time the format changes. What do you all think about this crap?
-
Blu-Ray, as it is affiliated with NBC/ Universal, which is the only studio that is exclusively HD-DVD.
That aside, the industry is probably going to cause one of these formats to get squeezed out. The best advice out there seems to be wait a little longer if you can. Either way, prices are bound to drop as time goes by, so even if both formats (somehow) survive the machines are only getting into a better price range. In 1999 or 2000 (perhaps even a year or two beyond that) regular DVD players were in the $300 to $400 dollar range, single disc tray and not a lot of bells and whistles. Now you can get a five disc rotary changer that is fully loaded for about $120 bucks... with those numbers in mind, I'm definitely waiting. -
The DVD that's out in the US doesn't have all the episodes it it god dammit!! We need a fucking Inhumanoids DVD set that show kicked ass and is WAY more worthy of being made into a live action film than fucking Thundercats.
-
glad to see that the Upright Citizens Brigade season 2 set finally has a date, just hope 3 eventually comes out too.
-
And some of us have daughters and we need the info when the new Little Pony DVD is coming out...so Daddy can be the good guy and get the one-up on Mom by bringing it home for her. :)
-
Was Lyle Talbot in the "Superman Vs. Atom Man" serial.
-
Season Nine, findable on YouTube, strange odd Canadian movie with Canadian hero 'Rosdower' - just classic.
-
the Witch appear to be riding on Casper's Cock ?
