If you haven't seen it yet... everybody brace yourselves for the MONSTER SQUAD DVD trailer!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here from London... during my travels to this lil' isle, the DVD trailer for the Monster Squad SE DVD hit. Being the huge MONSTER SQUAD nerd that I am, I couldn't let it pass without throwing it out for you guys. I'm so goddamned psyched to finally have this in my DVD collection. And it looks like Lionsgate has put a lot into it... now if only they'd have a trailer that didn't have music that sounds like it comes out of a lame Steve Martin family friendly movie co-starring Queen Latifah or TV's Superboy... especially considering Bruce Broughton's original score kicks so much ass. There's also the matter of the announcer having an incredibly over-the-top and unnecessary British accent, but what the hell? It's still Monster Squad on DVD! I know the movie rocks and I know it's coming out next month. Hooray!

I've been waiting so long for this movie on DVD!
-
hope im not first
-
I gotta admit I was just trying to ruin it for the firsters. Fucker that I am.
-
But I loved it.
-
i havent seen this since my pre-pubie days!
-
Another childhood memory to add to my ever growing collection.
-
Now my kids won't think I've been making the whole movie up anymore!
-
On Amazon.
-
I haven't seen the movie in years and it was one of those special gems I just loved when I was a wee kid. Looks like the DVD'll have some nice special features, too. Damn excited for this!
-
...Tom Noonan's Frankenstain...this film was awesome!!
-
I was just talking to a friend the other day about movies, especially "family" movies, that were made in the 80s that could never get made today. Or even if they did, they'd be heavily toned down or Rated R. Monster Squad was one of them, 13 year old kids smoking, using guns ("Bang." "Where'm I gonna get silver bullets, K-Mart?"), and what not. Goonies was another. The thing is, no one seemed to think back then that pre-teens were incapable of dealing with adult themes seriously and in the right context without them being watered down all to hell and served with a side of sugar frosting. Just goes to show how hardcore the MPAA's gotten in recent years.
-
I did. She's probably 40 now with 6 kids.
-
'Bout damn time...
-
couldn't get the rights to say Creature From The Black Lagoon? i'm so happy...i can get of my shitty bootleg VCD copy now! 20 years...damn i can remember when my folks picked this up on VHS. "come on guys don't be chickenshit!"
-
Hopefully, this won't disappoint me when I revisit this film again.
-
"Doesn't Count?!!!!"
-
I would have been happy with a bare bones dvd for this movie, but I am going to have a full day of viewing pleasure now on July 24th, I cannot wait.
-
Monster Squad has always Rocked and it looks like this dvd is every kids wet dream.Cant wait till July 24th,its also too bad the original cover art isnt the cover instead its some shitty photoshoped job.
-
I have never seen this.
-
Is this actually good or is it another one of those "We love the Goonies" kind of outcast-nerd-retribution kind of things? <p> Jack Black: Speaking of inappropriate crushes, I had a crush on the blonde girl from The Manhattan Project. Little did I realize she's turn into full-blown grown-up lesbian Cynthia Nixon.
-
I will not revere a crappy film just because I thought it was cool when I was twelve, and even then, I thought the idea of the movie ended up being better than the movie itself.
-
... that's the reason for the goofy music and bad John Hurt impersonator doing the voiceover. This movie is good enough to stand on it's own. Why are they trying to backpack onto a fantasy series that has NOTHING to do with the kind of material in Monster Squad. God... movie studies really have no clue. They suck!
-
Looks awesome.
-
he writes really funny dialogue, always has. even so-so movies like lethal weapon have great exchanges...and kiss kiss bang bang? genius...<p>the religious/burger king line gets me every time...
-
still stand up today. they look better than I remembered.
-
Its a kid's movie. Just because we are adults now doesn't make it less a kid's movie.
-
I'm pumped for this DVD. Most of the movies that DVD forgot, when they finally have a release, are just widescreen and maybe a trailer if you're lucky. But, wow, did they go all out. They are treating the fans well on this one. Thank you, lionsgate.
-
disappointed with himself if he misses this particular thread. Where are you?
-
I never liked the line from Dracula to the little girl "Give me the amulet you little BITCH" Even back then I thought it was a bit strong and outta place. Can't wait for the DVD though.
-
Before I even hit enter!
-
Please tell me!
-
Called 'Gil-Man'? WTF???
-
I'm so happy right now. And also, who cares if the trailer is cheesy? It's not like they replaced the score in the movie, or removed dialogue and added that narrator.
-
I just e-mailed this info to AICN last night, so it may not have been read yet. There's a screening at 3PM at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica. The official Aero schedule isn't up yet, but you can already buy tickets at http://www.fandango.com/americancinemathequeattheaerotheatre_aacpd/theaterpage?date=7/22/2007. According to the American Cinematheque Myspace page, Fred Dekker and others will be there. I'm guessing this will sell out pretty fast.
-
Is a rip on 'Black Snake Moan'.. a great little film staring the very hot miss Christina Ricci, (and her ability to fuck anything, any time, any where)
-
Never seen it, but I'm very interested. I think I'l be tracking down a VHS blockbuster copy cuz I cant wait.
-
related in the "monster movie icon" way, regarding this article. <p> http://tinyurl.com/you6mn
-
All in one film. Brings back all the good memories....I remember seeing this in the movie theater. Tom Noonan was Buffalo Bill in silence of the lambs right?
-
This movie sucked. Polished nostalgia at it's finest. You know how I know it sucked? Because 1) It's just NOW coming out on DVD, 2) I didn't like this movie when I was 11. Now, Fantastic Four: ROTSS I would have liked at 11. Hell, I liked it at 32.
-
for Monster Squad when I was like 11. I even had the trailer for it planned out. Then I hit puberty, and began playing with my dick. Needless to say, the idea never came to fruition. But, that's neither here nor there. Monster Squad's comin' out!!!! YAY!!!!!
-
I know, because he and I saw the original film in the theater when it came out. I did the VFX and animation for the trailer, and we spent HOURS talking about how it should look, what kind of lightning the box should have on it, etc. etc. etc... He even went through a lot of trial and error on the VO, and I can tell you, not once, ever, did the words "Harry Potter" get uttered. The thinking was to make the VO more like the feeling of the old Universal monsters, in that the characters often had a British accent, and usually a bad one, especially when they said the word "Monst-a". This guy has THOUSANDS of movies in his collection, and is an uber-geek of the highest magnitude when it comes to this stuff. Hell, he and I ran around with our Super 8 cameras and clunky video cameras making Sci-Fi and Horror movies all the time. I can tell you that he, and everyone involved with that trailer, wanted to make the best trailer possible.
-
not trying to be an ass here, its an honest question cuz i gotta say, i dont have much of a life so i watch a lot of tv and aside from new movies being released to dvd, i've never seen trailers for older releases. so why are trailers like this one made? is it only for the internet? i've seen a few "classic" moves get trailers for the dvd release but the only place i ever see or even hear about the trailer is online. so yeah, what's the target for these?
-
...so if you buy or rent one that has this trailer on it, you might want to buy or rent the DVD when it comes out. Sometimes they are made to be seen only by the retail buyers for the video chains. There are a lot of different audiences for these trailers.
-
I love this movie to death but what are the chances that any major studio releases a movie like this nowadays? Horace killing things with a shotgun and Dracula calling a little girl "Bitch!" Commentary should have some fun stuff in it.
-
With Hulk Hogan as Dracula: WIIIIIIINNNNDDDDSSSSSSSS, BROTHER!!!!
-
Wow. That trailer brought back so many memories. I needed that! I need this! This DVD! Oh it's on! Power to the people! I'm so proud of the letter I sent Viacom. They actually listed to us fans!!! I'm so happy. This movie will soon be MINE!!
-
and yes, that blonde chick was very hot back in the day!
-
No it wasn't Tom Noonan, it was Ted Levine. Regarding Monster Squad, sorry to say that I saw this a month or so ago, and it really didn't stand up. Maybe because I wasn't a huge fan of it as a kid. It had moments that made me smile, but it had aged pretty badly. Seemed to want to go into adult territory but still keep itself grounded and safe for the kids, and as a result left itself floundering in a mixed up limbo.
-
Let's hope the HD-DVD will have the original one-sheet cover art. But I just pre-ordered my copy on Amazon.
-
I don't remember a thing about this movie. When I hear "Monster Squad" I remember there being a movie, but couldn't remember it. This brought back some memories, and I'll definitely look to rent it to try to remember it. Oh, and the first thing I thought with the music and british voice was Harry Potter as well.
-
This is completely random, when I was a kid I just couldn't understand it. Anyway, in the scene in the (I believe treehouse) does anyone remember what the older kid flashed to the girl, was it a condom? I just remember being a kid (Jesus, I was five) and not understanding what the hell that was.
-
Once again I don't prof-reed.
-
Looks bloody awesome!!
-
just saying. why wait?
-
Folks in the Los Angeles area, you absolutely need to see this film on the big screen...so much fun. <p>I remember seeing it when it came out, and I also got to see it with Fred Dekker, and some cast members, when TMS screened last year in San Jose (where I live now).</P> <P>I even had Fred and the three attending cast members sign my TMS Press Kit (Phoebe has grown up into a great looking woman) yes, I own a The Monster Squad Press Kit...I know, I know...Cool!
-
Or the Wolfman will have to go take a shit after he rapes his sister and kills a squirrel.
-
Thought Shane Black wrote it?<P>Remember loving this as a kid but it was soooo long ago I don't recall most of the trailer so it will be great to see it again with my kid.
-
Damn, I forgot how fun this movie was. I remember we couldn't go see this in the theater the weekend/week it first came out because my best friend's parents wouldn't allow him to see anything above a PG rating. Our parents didn't care. I think we went the next weekend or so. Had a helluva lot of fun with it back then too.
-
This movie is what Van Helsing wanted to be, before all the CGI got carried away and crapped on Universal's Icons. It's Fred Dekker's love letter to the past. And for those of you that didn't grow up watching all those old monsters on late night tv. Or staying up til 3am just to catch one of your favorite monsters on an oddball channel, that only came in when you held the rabbit ears of the tv high enough in the air! Then all you haters can never really appreciate what a truly heart felt look back, at some of the things that shaped Fred Dekker's imagination, that this film is. Finally! It's on DVD! And I can't wait!
-
It always has, and it always will, no matter how much they pretty up a DVD release. It sucked long and hard back in the day, and it still does down to today.
-
<p>...board game or 'I Vant to Suck Your Blood' board game that came out around the same time? Ahhhh, the memories... Though, the MS game was based on the ORIGINAL t.v. series. Frank N. Stein, Dracula, and Bruce W. Wolf fighting crime under the guidance of little Walter, the crime solving geek that some how could afford a computer during the 1970's...</p><p>"My name is Walt. I work as night watchman here at Fred's Wax Museum to put myself through criminology college. It used to be very lonely until recently when I plugged in my crime computer, suddenly oscillating vibrations brought to life three legendary monsters...Dracula, The Werewolf and Frankenstein. Creatures hated and feared for centuries, now determined to make up for their past misbehavings by fighting crime wherever they find it. Together, we're THE MONSTER SQUAD"</p><p>*sigh* I'm so old...</p>
-
I remember watching the last 15 minutes of it a few years ago on TV. I was laughing all the time, because it was one of the worst pieces of crap I've ever seen! And now you tell me that it was the legendary "Monster Squad"? The movie that everybody on here loves with a passion?<br> Please tell me that the rest of the movie is much better! Or is it just another "Transformers: The Movie"? (= a piece of shit that you can only love for nostalgic reasons).
-
...this is one of those films that I always thought was incredibly over-rated back in the day, and even worse, hasn't fared at all well to the test of time, making them seem even lamerr now than they did then. Still, that said it's good to see it finally out on DVD for all the fans that want (and love) it though, and just like Goonies, I know it definitely does have it's fans, regardless of what I may happen to think of it (decent idea, somewhat lame execution). Give me Night Of The Creeps any day.
-
Ever made happen.
-
i remeber renting this movie for my birthday party way back when......jesus I hate beign growed up!!!!
-
..w/ a negative reaction..i guess you had to have been there in that time frame and at that age
-
That is all.
-
I saw this on tv about 2 months ago and was shocked at how poor the old transfer looks. either the tv edit was mastered on the cheapest video ever or it was shot on polyethylene and ink. <p> Still It's getting bought, assuming it ever comes out Region 2.
-
Somehow, I always get kind of a melancholy, sentimental feeling whenever we celebrate a film with a dead, semi-obscure, former child star. I hope they send him a copy in the netherworld. He can watch it with Frank if they have DVD players in that black hole he got sucked into...
