Hey!! It's The Mach 5 From SPEED RACER!! And It Looks Like...The Mach 5 From SPEED RACER!!

Published at:  Jun 19, 2007 10:24:03 PM CDT

Merrick here...

A few weeks back, USA Today revealed an image of SPEED RACER's trusty Mach 5, a la The Wachowskis.

The Giant Penny (who also sent in these cool shots of Batman's new wheels) also transmitted a different view of the car from the New York Licensing show. Which...we really appreciate. Thanks, Giant. Penny.

    by bronx cheer

I suspect it's going to be something really huge. The Bros. went a little astray with the 2nd and 3rd Matrix flicks, but I loved BOUND, and THE MATRIX is still a terrific movie. SPEED RACER has many components that make me want to see the film: the car, Chim-Chim, and Pops. I freakin' love Pops.

    The cars a car

    by napoleon park

a pretty nice Mako Vette style prototype, but, eh, it's a car. What's exciting here is that candy colored Blade Runner meets Jetson's cityscape. What year is this thing supposed to be set in, 2064? Hard to get enthusiastic over what's faster, the Mach 5 or the new Batcycle when the Silver surfboard would leave them both in the dust. (I refuse to use the word that begins bat and ends in pod - how many songs does it hold, anyway?)

This is the equivalent of a giant movie poster display a la the giant Silver Surfer mannquin at some theatres.

... what the movie will be about.. For god's sake, some dude riding a really fast white car... Hasn't this been done before, and didn't work?I'm betting this is another no story movie to sell more toys than ever on a franchise that just ain't worth putting on the big screen.I mean "Driven" covered all the racing basic you can have in a racing movie didn't it? Young rookie, German Champion, Old dog returning, crashes galore, race on the street, egos flying around, tragic even... I mean what will Speed racer bring? The same, but with a monkey?.. IF they bring the damn monkey in the movie.. I mean COME ON! THE MONKEY?! REALLY?!!.. really hope not.. Do wee need another "Every Which Way But Loose" and "Any Which Way You Can"This will make a great dvd rental... Wachowski's or not..
