Seth Rogen? Jay Baruchel? And The Apocalypse?! Sign Me Up!

Published at:  Jun 18, 2007 5:08:03 AM CDT

Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen are sneaky, sneaky men. I just saw Evan about two weeks ago, and he didn’t mention this, nor did Seth the last time I saw him a week before that. Nothing. Not a word. And now there’s a trailer for a short film that should start rolling out to festivals sometime later this year. That’s not good enough for me, though... I want to see this sumbitch now. The title alone has me smiling, and I’m curious to see what you guys think of this first glimpse of JAY AND SETH VS. THE APOCALYPSE:

Good stuff. Now pardon me while I go “bake a cake.”

Work? Me? No. That was pretty funny, though I have to agree, if they stay in the same room for however long, that could get old quick. Still looked funny to me.

    by garbageman33

Sorry, I loved Knocked Up as much as the next guy, but there was nothing funny about this. I'd rather watch Jonah Hill's Brokeback Mountain rant another 33 times than see this once.

If that is the trailer and the "best parts", the rest of the movie must really, really suck.

...I'm fine with that. In fact, I welcome it. Especially if it gives us a rest from Will Ferrell's tired schtick for a while.

The phrase you were looking for was "jack FROM shit," as in "You don't know jack from shit."

    Good evening.

Oh, and I'll give this thing a shot when it hits ifilm or youtube, or where ever these short films end up after they're done making festival rounds. Looks funny enough.

    FUNNY STUFF BUT

    by the real mirajeff

I agree, Seth's in danger of crossing the 'too much, too soon' barrier. These guys have tons of features lined up, now they've gotta go and hog the shorts spotlight too? I mean, they're consistently hilarious. There's nothing I've ever seen Rogen in where I didn't go, hey, that was fuckin' funny. But isn't it kind of unfair for a guy who is developing a cult following, who has access to $$ and a solid crew, to start making shorts that will inevitably sweep the nation on the festival circuit. Seth and Jay could watch paint dry and it would be funny to me, but why risk overexposing yourself. Give us a little taste, go away for a few months and be The Man upon your return in Superbad and Pineapple. God bless the Apatow camp but I don't need to start seeing outtakes and short films every other week in between the releases of their 8 or so features. Gotta give a man some time to get stuck in a comedy rut so he can appreciate true genius when it graces the screen before his eyes. This constant bombardment of Rogen and Apatow is getting to be a little much, and I say that as one of their biggest fans. They used to be a well-kept secret that the cool kids could rejoice in being in on. Now it seems like the whole country is anticipating their next moves with a religious-like fervor. I just hope they don't sell out and start making shitty sequels to cash-cows. Evan Almighty anyone?

    Over exposure?

    by colonel activity

The guy was in 40-year-old Virgin in 2005, Knocked up in 2007, and Superbad in 2007 so far. I know Pineapple is coming up, but four flicks in four years isn't that much.

    Oh come on Mirajeff

    by mcclane_corleone

Don't toss around the world sell-out. You're showing that you, too, are a child of the 90's. That is to say: "Oh yeah, I used to love Nirvana before they sold out and became famous. Now everybody loves Nirvana so they suck because being famous makes you a sell-out." Relax, Judd and Seth haven't sold out yet, and I don't think they're going to. Not as long as they keep making consistently funny sex comedies at least. No matter how many they make. They have to keep coming up with new material and not recycling any of the old stuff, which they've been very good about up to this point.

    i concur with mirajeff

    by mc-909

Fuck Seth Rogen and the other dipshit is in this trailer. Leave the short films to people that have no other outlet, or no other way of getting their foot in the door. This is downright insulting. These "geeks" that everyone thinks are so cool, OBVIOUSLY wouldn't think twice about stepping on the little man just so they can stay in the spotlight a little longer. Here, here, Mirajeff.

So get ready Seth, the backlash is about to begin. Every time a "geeky" comedian or actor has a few hits they all of a sudden get a big head and think that no matter what they do it will be funny and people will love it. Wrong, muthafucka. Read this talkback: the geeks are turning on you.

Oh, and John from Cincinnati is a piece of shit. Ed O'Neil is the only thing worth a damn in that stupid ass show. Surfers? Really? WHO GIVES A FUCK ABOUT SURFERS????

A geek for Rogen & Baruchel...

    by amazingblueduck

It's understandable, MC-909, that you believe the common misconception that any actor can walk into a room and a film will just materialize around him. Surprisingly, films are actually the product of weeks, months, or even years of hard work by a crew of dozens, if not hundreds, filmmakers. Short films are not just about actors having an outlet for their talents, but also about the directors, producers, cinematographers, etc. who contribute to each project. If this film is just something thrown together as they were wrapping the Knocked Up set, then that's one thing; however, considering that short films are usually made by emerging filmmakers who don't have the funds for a feature, isn't it possible that Rogen and Baruchel may have lent their talents to up-and-coming filmmakers? As a fellow geek, I'm not one to judge without more information.
