Photos Online Of Maggie Gyllenhaal And Aaron Eckhart In THE DARK KNIGHT!

Published at:  Jun 18, 2007 5:04:46 AM CDT

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

Several people wrote in today to mention this to us, and all of the various links we’ve been sent link back to one guy’s Flickr account, where he posted some photos of Maggie Gyllenhaal and Aaron Eckhart preparing to film a scene for THE DARK KNIGHT. They’re not the most revealing photos, and I doubt it’s a pivotal scene, but still... it’s cool to see what Maggie looks like playing Rachel Dawes, right?

Nice catch by the original photographer, and thanks to everyone who sent in the heads-up, including this guy, the first to do so:

Right place at the right time man Yunerz has snatched some on the set shots of Maggie Gyllenhaal and Aaron Eckhart playing Rachel Dawes and Harvey Dent.

    KATIE HOLMES WAS WAY HOTTER

    by arkham-madness

I wish for continuity reasons Katie Holmes hadnt of dropped out. Watched Thank you for smoking again the other night and it confirmed more and more that Aaron Eckhart is the perfect choice for Harvey Dent. Its gonna be more exciting to see what Two-Face looks like than what the Joker looks like. I do think though that Heath Ledger is an awesome choice for Joker. A huge part of these films strengths have been due to the casting. Bale, Neeson, Caine, Wilkinson and Oldman in Begins was one of the best casted films ever, let alone for a comic book film.

They were going to take a famous steam ship from near where I live, haul it to Chicago and paint it up for this film, but at the last minute they decided to just design a set instead. So look for some action in the film to take place inside the engine room of a large ship.

It's odd to think that we're about to get a Batman film with a cast like this. The cast for the first film was impressive enough, and now we've got really good actors like Aaron Eckhart and Maggie Gyllenhaal as well? Good work, Christopher Nolan, although it would be nice if you'd spice up the action a bit this time. Thanks in advance.

We want real fights scenes, real choreography, real action, not quick cut scenes of an arm here and a leg there - I loved BATMAN BEGINS but I was very surprised that even Tim Burton handled the gith scenes better than Nolan.

Having seen the updated Bat-suit (maybe too MUCH armour), and the blurry photo of Ledger as the Joker from behind some glass (looked very much like Caeser Romero), I am getting a bit twitchy.
Still it's early doors yet and I'll obviously reserve overall judgement until I've seen it. Besides, BB set a good standard.

BB was outstanding, however I still think Holmes wouldn't have been my first choice. I am glad she was knocked out by Scarecrow's crazy gas for about 45 minutes, though.

I'm thankful that this time out Nolan spared me the pouty face, vapid do-gooder talk that made Dawson and Pacey compare half chubs. Beside's Kat's too busy raising the next leader of Heaven's Gate.

    by venkman781

Based on that one photo alone, it's hard to say if the new duds will look too American Gladiators or not. I think Nolan will keep things generally dark enough and hopefully show some kind of transition, or development from one suit to the next. I mean, now that Bats has his buddy Lucius Fox to hold down Wayne Enterprises, there's really no limit to what kind of Tech he can develop. Who knows? Maybe Batman is going to play in a Lacrosse tournament against the Joker?

Although, I'm not sure about that BigWheel looking thing he's riding in that picture. Mind you, it would be cool if he actually had to peddle it, just like a real Big Wheel. And it if it made that same rolling/plastic on concrete noise a Big Wheel makes. In fact, why is not called the BatWheel? That makes more sense.Batman, peddling furiously, calls out to the joker and his gang of goons as they race away on razor scooters: "Come on, guys! Slow down!"

Zooey Deschanel would be good, or Charisma Carpenter or Maybe Rachael Mcadams. Or Sophia Bush, or maybe Arielle Kebbel. If i was makin this flick it would be MEGAN FOX! Thats all i would change! by bizarrojerry

Maggie is not ugly. I wouldn't refer to her as hot, but she's not ugly! This is why we get movies with brainless bimbos, 20-year-old Lois Lanes and an Invisible Woman who can barely act.
By the way, I'm guessing that Rachel Dawes is dating Harvey Dent in this movie. At the very least, they're working together and he may even be her boss, right? If he's the district attorney in this flick, anyway. Bruce and Harvey are supposed to be friends, but I wonder if they're setting up another movie love triangle. I'd rather they didn't, but you never know. These producers seem to think we need a love interest or romantic subplot in any film they make. It's like back in the old days when they'd find some way to cram a big musical number into a Marx Brothers movie cuz they figured they needed to.

Batman Begins had some great origin stuff, but as soon as magic water evaporater was suddenly missing I started to tune out. Hope this one is better, but don't have high hopes. The Purpose of Rachel Dawes

    by david19

In hindsight I dont think the Rachel Dawes character is too much of a distraction. Aside from an eye-rolling scene at the end of BB I think they tied off the Bruce-Rachel love thing. Rachel was played as more of childhood friend and because she was a girl they had to resolve the sexual tension between them. Obviously when she turned him down Bruce wasn't too broken up about it. Compared to the two euro hotties he was dragging around town Rachel aint all that hot, but, heck, a lot of us will end up going with the heart and not the penis when we get married, so why not Bats?Whatever the case Im betting Bruce wont be sucking face with Rachel in this movie, and Ill bet money that Joker is going to off her. When you consider that besides Alfred, Rachel is Bruce's only tie to his idilic, shattered past, killing Rachel would be the only real death that would have any resonance for Bruce without killing Alfred. In the Burton Batman the conflict with Joker stemmed from him being the one who killed Bats parents. The Nolan version was much less forced, and ultimately more impactful. Just wait everyone. Think about the story for a moment. We all know that Rachel Dawes and Bruce wont end up with each other, and barring our distaste for Katie Holmes, (or Gylenhaal) the character on hindsight makes a lot of sense. Rachel (perhaps intentionally so) is less glamorous and attractive then the women Playboy Bruce fools around with, but for Real Bruce, Rachel is a piece of his childhood, and he has an affection for her, one that, I think, is not sexual. My guess is that Joker is going to off Rachel, further pushing Bruce towards losing himself into the monster of Batman, then He's going to lose Harvey Dent as well. It could be that over the course of three movies, Bruce may go through a simliar character arc as the comic book ie. losing his identity as Bruce Wayne to Batman, then having to regain it again, a theme that I think would be very easy to piok out of a Two-Face movie. Two-Face is an obvious example of a character who has let himself be carried away by the darkness inside, and though his scars are external, the parallels between him and Batman are unmistakable.

Maggie just doesn't do it for me, guys. Her face is kinda...odd. Holmes looked like she was in high school in BB and Wayne looked like a dirty old man with her. Nevertheless...I gotta agree with an opinion earlier. Joker kills Rachel early on (with a joke and a smile) and pisses off Batman real good. That's drama folks.

    About Lois...

    by bizarrojerry

I'll get attacked for this one, but while they didn't get it perfectly right, I think the Smallville producers generally have a better grasp of Lois Lane's character, albeit with an extra skank factor thrown in. She at least seems like she'd get herself into trouble, and that is her job. Bosworth just seems too nice and kinda bland. And yes, though I hate to go back to a cartoon, they got Lois right on that show more than any other movie or TV series.

It's not like Rachel is some beloved longtime Batman character. I guess having a little continuity with the same character improves upon the James Bond treatment of girlfriends -- a different one every time. BUT, more likely this will have people in the theaters thinking, "So, is that the same person Katie Holmes was, or what?" It doesn't help that all other characters are played by the same actor. This may be old news, but did we ever get a real reason why Katie's not in this?

Who I'd cast for Lois Lane...

    by lynxpro

If I wasn't intent upon bringing the *Smallville* cast up to the Superman movie franchise, I'd cast Rena Sofer in the role of Lois Lane.

I'm all for Nolan going back and reshooting the Katie Holmes scenes in the original and replacing her with Maggie, just for film continuity sake...

Eccleston would still be the best Joker...

    by lynxpro

But I guess gravitas was not an acting characteristic the casting director and the suits at WB Pictures were using for awarding the role...

ERIC ROBERTS is in the film!

    by lynxpro

Rock on. At least we got Eric "The Master" Roberts in there. So while no Eccleston, at least we have one veteran from *Heroes* and *Doctor Who*...

Fuck you guys; tedious rubber-titted, peanut-butter-coloured bleavhed-blobde 'babes' are now the scourge of my country; every Irish woman in Dublin looks like a lap-dancer from Santa Fe. They are hot. They are hot and they are fucking horrible.

    Gravitas...the JOKER? WTF?

    by sepulchrave

He's not called the Frowner, you know. Christopher Ecclestone embodies Northern English gloom; he's like a coal mine wearing a trench coat.

Go back and watch Eccleston in *Doctor Who* Series 1 Episode 6 ("Dalek") and see the scene when he first encounters the Dalek. Watch his range going from utter terror, to maniacal (sic) murder and rage. And then tell me he would not be the perfect Joker. Matter of fact, let every TalkBacker rewatch that scene and realize that we aren't going to end up with that quality of acting with Ledger in the role.

    Casting Lois Lane

    by barron34

Kate Bosworth seems like a nice girl, but she WAS too bland and too young to be Lois Lane. Whoever said that the writers and producers of SMALLVILLE seem to "get" the Lois Lane character is right. From the comics, Lois is smart and adventurous, tends to get into trouble, and is sort of similar to the wise-cracking news dames from the films of the forties, albeit updated to our age. Erica Durance and the writers over at SMALLVILLE do a pretty good job. Lois is a tough but pretty dame who gets into trouble a lot (albeit, so Superman can get her out of it). When they were talking about making the new live-action Superman film, I was kind of inclined to agree with those who thought they should just use the SMALLVILLE cast. Michael Rosenbaum in particular is great as Lex Luthor. In any case, if they must cast Lois Lane otherwise, I always thought that Neve Campbell would have been a good choice. She looks like the character, has the spunkiness, and is neither too old nor too young for the role, in my opinion (Bosworth comes off as a girl, not a woman). Neve Campbell can play lead character and damsel in distrss, as we saw in the SCREAM movies. I also thought, if they must cast a name actor as Clark Kent/Superman, that Brendan Fraser would have been a good choice. I think he could play a variety of notes, from comedic as Clark, to action, to serious dramatic. Look at his acting as a CIA agent in THE QUIET AMERICAN for an excellent example of Fraser playing a serious version of the all-American hero. It conviced me that he would make an excellent Superman.

Like any of you wordly "studs" would turn down Maggie Gyllenhaal if she offered to slobber up your fuckstick. If given the chance I would gladly pull her shirt up over her head and fuck her like a hockey fight. She's a finer piece of ass than most of you clowns will ever come even remotely close to.
