Images from John Irving's THE CIDER HOUSE RULES!

Well, it was a #1 Best Selling Novel for quite some time. And I'm willing to bet anything Moriarty has strong feelings aimed at this project. It has a great cast that includes Tobey Maguire, Charlize Theron, Delroy Lindo (who should be working alot more often), Paul Rudd, Michael Caine, Jane Alexander, Kieran Culkin (who should have picked up a best actor nomination for THE MIGHTY), Heavy D and Kate Nelligan. And... This time John Irving wrote the script, so there shouldn't be any left field explorations like in Simon Birch last year. (Though I was quite fond of that film) Well... Here ya go... Compliments of the Bondosan...

Alright, now if this shot doesn't get you VAGUELY interested in the film on a purely intellectual Gene Wilder/Teri Garr sort of way... Then there is something terribly wrong with ya.

Man! Is Tobey on a streak of good projects or what? I'm pulling for him in this one and in Ang Lee's latest. Looks like he's up for another great year.

Why isn't Michael Caine in more movies? I mean... Here's a guy that is just soooooo damn good. Gene Hackman still gets lots of parts... Why not Michael? Personally I can't wait to see him in this.

Ya know... Ya see pictures like this, and it just puts wild an insane drooling ideas in your head. Like for me... I'm thinking, "Take 82"

    Tobey: "He's not all that!"

    by thebigham

Why does everyone just love Tobey Maguire? He was good in Pleasantville but I still can't see what the fuss is all about. I heard that he is a snot on his movie sets. Tobey, go and look up "hubris" in the dictionary.

Why Michael Caine isn't in more movies

    by pope buck 1

Didn't you hear Caine's speech at the Golden Globes? He said there was a time when he felt compelled to make as much money as possible by doing EVERY movie project that came his way (this was the period when he couldn't accept his Oscar for "Hannah and her Sisters" because he was in the Caribbean filming "Jaws: The Revenge" -- is that a range, or what?), but that more recently he has decided he has enough money to last him, and that he can afford to be much more picky about what projects he takes on. It's a mixed blessing, since we all love to see him in anything, but at least now when you see Caine in a movie, you know it's one he's doing because he feels it's a good one.

    Michael Caine

I agree that it's a shame that he's not in more movies but at least he's in better movies, I'd rather see that then Jaws:The Revenge or the Holcraft Covenant (insert Homer Simpson shudder here)

    should see the play

    by pomira

Unfortunately, a movie can't do justice to a book. If you saw the play for the Cider House Rules (which starred Josh Hamilton, a much more talented Toby McG.), you would know that whatever they do in the film, it will suffer because 2-plus can't handle an Irving novel.
The only cool note (and the smartest casting) is that Michael C. must be playing the doctor, which is absolutely the best role in the story. Look for another Academy Award Nomination for Mr. Caine.
