Guys, I know how much some of you are invested in hating this one, and who knows how it plays as a film? I know that people are starting to lay eyes on it this weekend, and I’m itching to see it myself. Especially when we see a trailer like this one, which several of you forwarded to me tonight.
I don’t know nothin’ from nothin’ about the source material, but there are images we’re starting to see now that are going to create all-new fans, and if the whole movie delivers that type of mayhem, then count me in.
And contrary to what talkbackers are saying below, it's not a dead link. I think we may be firebombing it right now, but try right-clicking "Save Link As," and you'll see that it will save as a QT movie for you. Be patient. It's a huge high-res version.

Michael Bay's action scenes really do knock your cocks off. (Although I wish he could get into the dying art of the Quiet Action Scene - i.e. the first T Rex attack in Jurassic, or Cruise upside down in Mission: Impossible. Not every action scene has to have that loud fucking music.) If Bay manages to play the story right, it could be so good. And no trailer can give us an idea about THAT.

i just think episode 1 dragged, but that obi and qui gon vs darth maul was great. and darth maul was such a cool villian to bad he got cocky and obi sliced his ass up lol. lucas mustve had crack and coffee everyday for breakfast becasue episode II had tons of action it just had some corny lovey dovey dialouge and a wooden performance for hayden. but i do love the scenes when he goes looking for his mother, kills the tuskens, then admits it to padme.

The tusken decapitating admitting scene to padme was bad. He came across as a spoiled brat, not the menace known as Vader to be. And Padme was too quick to 'forgive' him too. I did enjoy the Fett/Kenobi fight, and of course the end fight. But it was the worst of the prequels I think. Yack is right, remove Jar Jar and maybe tweak a couple things here and there, and episode 1 would have been much better.

It's Transformers! Hopefully, the sequel will give us a plot involving Shockwave and Soundwave...perhaps they are able to resurrect him, but as a result he ends up getting permanently stuck in an earthly form, which causes him to hate the fleshlings even more.

I was rewatching season 1 of TF: G1 yesterday...I gotta say, the old designs were cool for kids, but way too simple for the big screen and an adult audience...or for today's kids, who seem to think they are adults.

I tend to believe that creative geniuses (and you don't become a Michael Bay without being a creative genius) do think long and hard about how to best transfer their source material to the screen. and I REALLY don't think they make any unnecessary changes. I'm SURE they have their reasons. like Peter Jackson had his reasons (and VERY GOOD reasons, as you'll understand if you watch all the extras on the extended DVDs). what many people don't seem to get is, a great story doesn't automatically work completely unaltered in a different medium than the one it was originally presented in. sure, you could probably "transform" a book or tv show word-by-word into a movie, and a lot of fans of the source material might even like the result... but in the end, a filmmaker wants to make a GOOD MOVIE, and a good movie usually doesn't mean a word-by-word transfer of the source material to the big screen.

I'm excited to see this, love the stuff I've seen so far, getting used to the changes and all that. But friggin-a I do get irritated by that big "MICHAEL BAY" over the title screen. like the property itself could NEVER sell this movie. Oh no... it's from the director of Pearl Harbor and that movie nobody saw last year. THAT'S what will get the butts in the seats. Speilberg has that gravitas, not you Bay.

megatron isn't really in the movie until the end. in the preview comics, he arrived on earth 100 years ago and went into stasis. he's where we get a lot of our advanced tech from.

Here's the thing about Lucas. He just wanted to give the audience what they wanted (aka, lightsaber duel in part 1, pod race in 1, yoda fighting in 2, obi-wan fighting anakin in 3) but was too lazy to do the rest of the work (actually create a story behind it). The funny thing is, those parts I listed - the whole reason he made the films, HE DIDN'T EVEN WRITE THOSE PARTS OUT! He just wrote *fight scene here* and *the two fight here* and *the pod race* and then let his technical people figure it out. That means he not only didn't put any time into the story, he didn't put any time into the action scenes. What the fuck did George Lucas actually do???

As for this movie, we can learn a little bit from Episode 1, which I think had one of the best trailers ever in the history of the world. Unfortunately I learned a lesson with that trailer that forever changed the way I anticipate movies. Trailers are NOT MADE BY THE DIRECTOR. They are made by someone else way more talented who knows how to create a story in 2 minutes (or one, or 30 seconds). It has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on if the movie is going to be good AT ALL. Cause you're not seeing that long stupid scene where Shia LaBeoufowitz talks to his girlfriend about his dream to be a racer. Or that ridiculous exposition scene where they actually try and explain why aliens have decided to take the form of cars. Go watch The Island and Pearl Harbor back to back and tell me that Bay has any ability whatsoever to create a story. (and don't bring up The Rock either. That was back when people still told him what to do) -

It's only a commercial, which I've been trying to stay away from to not ruin too much of the movie for me, but it was kick ass all the same.This may not be the cartoon EXACTLY...this may not be the toys realized onscreen EXACTLY...but frankly I don't care. I'm old enough to remember the Transformers show/toys, but I have to say I also expected Hollywood to change and tweak things for a live action movie. And the whole "flames on Optimus" just seems silly at this point and really way too bottom of the barrel fanboy-ish in terms of whining.Bottom line: this looks bad ass and really looks like the first "geek" film this summer to actually come through delivering the goods. Plus I just think the combo of Bay AND Spielberg will be the right chemistry to juice both of them into creating a real uber geek experience.

Good question. I think very, very few will actually be honest. I know YackBacker & Mr. Nice Gaius will give it to us straight, just to name two. There are others who will be honest, but mostly this thing has gotten so stupidly infantile, that it really doesn't matter anymore. Not that it really did to begin with.

Neither have I tried to judge the film on trailers and rumour alone without actually seeing it.
I am expecting nothing more than a big summer spectacle, and am looking forward to watching it.

AND score the years most amount of MONEY.But I know just from the designs that they never really got Transformers...Bay even admits he wasn't a fan when he came on to this film so its not hard to believe. Knowing Bay do you really think he understands sci-fi / fantasy as a genre? What it takes to breathe life into creatures? To me it's obvious by looking at the faces of the characters that he does not understand. Hes just a 40 something action film director, he doesn't get this shit. at the box office? Regardless of your stance, I cannot fathom this film failing. It's new in the since that it has giant robots i.e. something not seen to this degree on the big screen. The ads do their job well. Word of mouth doesn't really hurt SFX Spectacle films, does it? I don't pay attention to the financials of films, I just see what appeals to me, but I think this movie is going to be very profitable. I wouldn't be surprised if parts 2 & 3 got greenlit after opening weekend. I'm sure the target audience are bugging the shit out of their parents to take them to it. Perhaps I am naive.

That depends on the source material you are referring to. The intent of this movie was to have it BASED mostly on G1. Yet, as some people seem to forget, G1 is not the only incarnation of Transformers and it's not the only incarnation that has fans. While G1 remains the most iconic (because of the age group of its initial fanbase), the producers of this movie chose to incorporate references from all the other versions, too.And according to Bay, after Spielberg convinced him to direct (and make no mistake - Spielberg WANTED Bay on this project), he immediately went to "Transformers School" with execs from Hasbro. The first thing they all appeared to want and agree upon was to start the franchise over fresh. That included the designs.Now, whether these designs "suck" is a matter of personal opinion and nothing more. But I think one would have to be in total denial if they can't bring themselves to admit that these designs are phenomenal in complexity and execution. The bottom line is they shot for more with these designs = more realism and more flexibility.

They are discernable individual things." - That statement is an incredible example of the "Art of Bullshitting".Pointing towards the big statue of Optimus and saying that its your inspiration for what they want in the movie is a given. There are many different incarnations of Prime (some with lips!!!). But the one they wanted to pay homage to was G1. Duh.As much as I dislike DM, I have to say that nowhere in your list of quotes/evidence does he say that they promised or guaranteed a complete duplication of the G1 look and mythos.

After seeing the hi-res shots of Prime's face, I don't his mouth/lips look that bad. And one must remember to ask: What is a mouthguard for if not to guard a mouth? Heh.One thing is for sure, it's way better than the Beast Wars (Beast Machines?) Prime. Now that guy had some LIPS.

Will no doubt be great looking,i mean ILM is doing the effects,they never do bad work.On the other hand this film just reeks of a Director who clearly doesnt know the material and has admitted to not being a fan and had to be schooled in transformers 101 and originally did NOT want to do some STUPID TOY MOVIE.Which clearly Transformers never was.

luke vs vader throughout the movie and their great ligthtsaber fight in the end makes the movie much better and makes it worth watching

on topic here guys and gals(all three of you). This is a Transformers TB not a SW TB. I can see how you could get confused though. A conversation about robots is tough to have without thinking of hayden christensen's acting in the PT

I received this information through the 10 bajillion minutes of behind-the-scenes footage there is on the prequels. I'm not just making stuff up here.
And I wasn't around when the original transformer bashing began so I have to make up for it now. Michael Bay really is an incompetant bastard by the way. -

i think the skating is really fucking cool..leave that alone. If anything has impressed me more its the bonecrusher skating down the free way chasing whoever hes supposed to be chasing. It makes sense too that hed be able to go faster this way.

With FIOS, the vid loads in 20 seconds. Anyway, the movie's looking pretty good now, even though the TF designs still bug me. I picked up my advance ticket today.

the name rec and barely made the characters familiar except for Optimus. The other thing in the script was that unlike the cartoon, they didn't come across as being well-rounded characters, but somewhat stilted, very flat. Like Muppet dialogue or something. Bumblebee like Gizmo or ET.

of good and even directed in a slightly suspenseful way. The dealership scene bugged me. Bernie Mac needs to stop playing characters like that. And I also don't think Bumbleebee would purposefully cause a bunch of property destruction to make sure Shia chose him. Not that something like that would have occurred to the writers. Also, dissing the Bug next to it pisses me off.

BAD BOYS was great fun and had nothing whatever to do with michael bay. it was a buddy comedy. hell, brett frackin' ratner can do a buddy comedy.
THE ROCK was completely blown out of proportion and unreal (typical of bruckheimer and bay), but in comparison with his later "films," well composed and not completely stupifying.
ARMAGEDDON was atrocious. I'm not sure it's bay's fault that the script is more shallow than my niece's inflatable pool, but the impossibly poor editing (i.e., putting together scenes that supposedly tell a story) is something a director should be held accountable for.
the less said about PEARL HARBOR, the better. but I do love that kate beckinsale.
BAD BOYS 2 was BAD BOYS bigger, louder, and uncut...and also less funny and more tired.
THE ISLAND was michael freakin' bay's best movie by a long shot. He's still an incredibly overblown action director, but you can at least see him struggling with the possibility of a script with substance. it's a stock theme for sci-fi, but it's good to see him out from under the wing of herr bruckheimer.
which brings us to TRANSFORMERS. I loved Transformers. But get real. a movie based on a tv & comics series designed to sell toys and directed by michael bay? get real. you might as well ask paul anderson to direct HALO. or give uwe boll...anything. there's no chance of getting a complete movie here. no chance. so of course people are focusing on the big bot battles. it's GOT to be better than those stv MECHWARRIOR knockoffs from the L80s and 90s. -

transformers scanned earth vehicles. I d say thats enough reason for bumblebee to have a real engine- If you notice-. When meagan opens the hood, (BB in his old camaro version),his engine is high tech compared to what a car like that would normally have. So its not totally just a regular old camaro.
Another thing is when she says nice headers,"youve got a high rise double pump carburetor pretty impressive"...the engine clearly doesnt have a carburetor...its fuel injected,you cant have a carb and fuel injection-its one or the other. Even if what you see in that scene is not a functional engine its what the design team or whomever made it to resemble. So meagans dialogue, on top of it being badly played is totally B.S...- the only thing she got right was the headers. When shes shaking the distributor cause she says "it may be loose", the distributor cap is at the back of the engine on this car..shed have to crawl inside the car to even touch it from where shes standing. It looks like shes shaking the radiator cap instead-lol. Not only does meagan fox not know shit about cars, her character in the the movie doesnt know shit either.
