MAN IN SUIT IN 3D! MAN IN SUIT IN 3D! MAN IN SUIT IN 3D!

Published at:  Jun 15, 2007 1:25:07 AM CDT

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I am going to go out of my way to get my son hooked on Godzilla movies before this opens so that we can go together. I’m sure my wife won’t want any part of it, but that’s fine. It would be awesome to just go and geek out over 3D kaiju.

When you follow the link below, check out the website for Kerner Research. I'm rooting for these guys. It looks like a great company, and I hope to see really innovative, amazing things from them in the future. In short, this story makes me as happy as happy can be:

Heya Harry and gang,

The long rumored Godzilla-IMAX movie is moving forward.

Looks like a bunch of ex-ILM employees(many of whom are self professed Ultraman and Godzilla geeks) are providing all the major special effects for the film while another Japanese company will be providing the funding for the film.

Director Banno has secured Toho Company's blessing on using Godzilla so there's no worry about that.

When the project was first announced a few years ago, it was targeted as a movie being made specifically for IMAX theaters. Don't know if that will be the case now or not.

What's interesting is that it seems like they'll be using some type of super "James Cameron?" cool 3-D camera/effects work for this.

Will this be a preview of sorts of what's to come with Jim's "Avatar" technology?

Anyways, I'd scream man in suit, man in suit but I'm sure you'll have that covered.....

-Rob(no fancy alias) D.

The travesty that came about in 1997. I remember I was PUMPED for that movie. The teasers were all awesome, then it came about and all I got was a large, lamely designed iguana mutation that didn't shoot nuclear energy from his mouth to incinerate New York.

Hopefully this time we'll see a competant version of Godzilla onscreen with the respect he deserves.

    by projectionist-punisher

Sweet. Yes. Please let this happen god! I swear here and now, if this makes it to the screen I will become a bettter person! If I HAVE TO I will even agree that the fireing of memflix by FOX for giving FF2 a bad review was a good thing. Of course that would mean SATAN is in charge but if that means a Godzilla IMAX film then so be it!

    Versus - 3d method

    by medianerd

Wasn't the guy who did the movie Versus(asian-zombie-gangster-kungfu) supposed to do a big budget Godzilla with all the old school effects guys? Did that ever get made and just not reach state side or ???
I haven't done any of the modern 3d flicks, but isn't 'zilla the wrong color for this to work well, or are they no longer blue/red based to get the effect?

    ONE LAST PLEAD, AICN GUYS

    by badmrwonka

I hate being redundant, I've writeen e-mails though, and I'm just hoping someone can address it. if it's crazy talk and no one cares, so be it...you GOTTA extend the number of articles that are on the front page. if news is slow, and a couple days go by with just 1 or 2 new articles, it's fine. but when a rush of stuff comes in, well, it regularly happens that an article will get posted at 10pm on one day, and by 10pm the next day, it's off the front page! and if someone didn't check out AICN that day (not me, I check it everyday, like the geek I am), they wouldn't even have any idea it existed. and since the only way to search for old articles is to know what you're searching for (no way to look at "yesterday's articles" or "last week's articles"), no one will ever see it!
I love the site, and I just hate it when sometimes I'm busy and skip a day, and it happens to be a busy one news-wise, and I miss out.

can't you just extend the main section a bit? or god forbid install something to let people go back a little ways to recent articles that are just out of range to end up on the front page?

    by lord_soth

Back in the '50s it looked cool, cameras were weak, image was grainy, the rubber monster was alive. Fast forward to the present, todays equpiment shot crystal clear images, but man in suit didn't improve radically (at least not at the japos), it does look now laughable at best.

GODZILLA IS NOT NEVER WAS AND NEVER WILL BE !!!!GREEN!!

    by garofellatio

Is this a gimmicky short, or an actual, full-blooded new Godzilla feature-- and in English? We'll see. If it's a feature I will take the razor off my wrist at least until it comes out. I saw Destroy All Monsters again last night (with the AIP soundtrack, thank you, not the international one) and it amazes me that Godzilla is not making millions for Toho and some lucky US studio. Hopefully this IMAX project will be "Godzilla Begins" to Sony's Mathhew Broderick abomination. Toho's "Millenium" G-flicks were okay (especially GMK-- the Godzilla movie for adults) but I want a $200M American G-Flick with Angilas, Mothra, Ghidorah, Manda, Titanosaurus, Ebirah, Gigan, and yes even Megalon. And Mecha Godzilla also-- but only as a BAD GUY. By the way, I'M not bothered by the fact that Banno only directed one Godzilla movie-- SMOG MONSTER. Is anyone else bothered by that?

And I love casinos getting destroyed...also I seem to remember that there was talk way back in the 80's of a Godzilla in 3-d that was going to be directed by Mike Minor who was attached briefly to Star Trek.. MIS Godzilla was entertaining when I was eight, laughable by twelve and just plain sad by my teens. Even bong hits didn't help. Evidently, what Jerry Lewis' "brilliance" is to Frenchmen, rubber Godzilla suits are to certain Americans...what Stephen King called "the siren song of shit".

Wouldn't be such a ignorant fool. "ZOMG GODZILLA IS LAME"! These films were gold back in the sixties. With infused character and monster plots, aswell as god-like special effects at the time, Godzilla films are deserving of praise.

You seem to be under the impression that the suits are actually made of rubber, and that the miniture buildings are actually made of cardboard. Maybe you should watch more than Godzilla vs Megalon before you decide to judge a whole series based on stereotypical knowledge.
