Imagi (TMNT, Highlander: Search For Vengeance) has announced that Robert Mark Kamen has been brought on board to pen the script for their upcoming CG animated adaptation of classic 70's Gatchaman Kamen's credits include the Karate Kid movie, Fifth Element and Lethal Weapon 3. Lynne Southerland (Mulan II) has been attached to the project as producer and Kevin Munroe as director.
Tatsunoko's 1972 (Speed Racer, Macross/Robotech) adventure sci-fi Science Ninja Team Gatchaman was adapted for American TV as Battle of the Planets in the wake of the Star Wars phenomenon, then again as G-Force in 1986.
The CG Gatchaman is scheduled to be completed in 2008.
Hey folks, Harry here... A few weeks ago I got sent these images from the GATCHAMAN movie and well since this is the first update, I figured I'd share them with you folks on this appropriate story...

And here's the logo to look at!

Hah!
-
Are there two Gatchaman movies in the works?
-
I grew up in the 70's and I've never heard of this.
-
...as a kid, be interesting to see how they update it for today's ADD crowd.
-
during the hostel war last week.Once you ff the titles and 7 zark 7 it was done in 13 minutes an ep.I still whistle certain musical cues randomly.I won't be going out of my way to catch this.I'm sick to the back teeth of this franchise for some reason :).Good luck to them though.Transmute.......

not so much Fifth Element, not at all LW3. I would've preferred the Wachowski's pen and direct this instead of Speed Racer.
-
...is so going on my desktop. I'll watch this even if it sucks. It can't suck much worse than the source material (and I love the original. But let's face it, it wasn't very good. Cool, yes. Very cool. Just not very good).

Taps & The Transporter. Interesting resume.

CAN'T WAIT!

Animated is much better than live action for this property. Probably a whole lot of properties should go this route.

I'm so there!!!

I thought for a second that Scott Green was the announced writer!
-
It was called Battle of the Planets or G-Force in the US in the 70s.
No one here remembers Gatchaman in the 70s and those that say they do is lying because it was never called that here and didn't show up here as Gatchaman until the late 80s early 90s. -
since The Incredibles that is. Gatchaman has all the right elements for an all out science fiction-ninja action flick. The concept art is outstanding and I hope they capture that mood. I knew this as Battle Of the Planets first but loved it all the same. I thought it was a very sophisticated cartoon at the time and a bit violent in a comic book way. BTW anyone notice "Jason/Joe" walking with a cigarette in his hand in one of the street shots above?

Those mecha look like robotic versions of the bugs from "Starship Troopers". I've never seen the show, but a friend keeps trying to convince me to take a gander.
-
should be shiny goodness with the people attached on this project
-
Hrm. It's hard not to get excited about those pictures, but I really hope there isn't some kind of last minute fuck-up or something that retroactively nullifies the project -- *cough* PRINCESS OF MARS *cough cough!!*.
The key thing that worried me was that announcement a month or two back about Takashi Miike announcing HIS own liveaction GATCHAMAN movie. Would that clash with the production of this movie?
In a perfect world, I'd love to see both Miike's and Munroe's versions of these characters. Like a lot of folks, GATCHAMAN was part of my childhood (the BATTLE OF THE PLANETS version, it played on re-runs on some backwater channel when I lived in Jersey) and I would hate to see this fucked over. -
YES there IS a live action Gatchaman movie in the works. From what i have heard, it will definitely be released in japan. It MIGHT NOT be released in the US market. This link THE HOME OF THE WHITE SHADOW http://www.chronicsite.com/gatchaman/gatchnews.html#liveaction
PARTIAL QUOTE from HOME OF THE WHITE SHADOW website ".... Nikkatsu Corp. announced it has greenlit LIVE ACTION movie adaptations of both Gatchaman and Yatterman ...." If any further movie infor comes out, THIS site will be sure to get it.

Just for the record, I have come across a few people from Canada and the USA whose parents worked in japan in the 70's. As a result, they DID see the original Gatchaman and were well aware of the original series name, that it was editted out when they saw BOTP etc. So, unless you can make an INFORMED comment on something....
