EAGLE VS. SHARK comes out this weekend! Here's another review to tell ya' to go see it!!!

Published at:  Jun 13, 2007 5:27:10 PM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I've posted much about this movie since seeing it last January at Sundance. It's a sweet movie, a funny movie, a quirky movie. I did an interview with the stars and director, which I'll try to get out to you guys by this weekend. In the meantime, here's a reader review! Enjoy!!!

So I saw a screening of this movie called Eagle vs. Shark. With one of the guys fromm Flight of the Conchords. This movie is very funny. It plays out like a cross between Naopleon Dynamite and Little Miss Sunshine. This might be the best movie of the year so far. This fine movie is about love. Awkward love. You know the kind of love from maybe middle school or elementary school where the girl likes the boy but does not know how talk to him so she hits him and runs away and vice/versa. That awkward, but it is not with 5th graders. It is with late twenty/early 30 somethings having these problems.

The whole plot centes around the Flight of the Conchord guy who works at a video game store and is into ninjas and video games. He does not know that this fast food resturant he goes to every day to eat has an employee who thinks he is Gods gift.

Well they meet and he tells her he is on a mission. A mission to kill a man. To kill his bully from high school. And he must goto his hometown to destroy him. Well she follows him there all sorts of funny events ensue.

Seriously...think of Napoleon Dynamite characters and Little Miss Sunshine humor. It makes for a great movie.

I highly reccommend it. If you use this

call me...

of the last couple years?!! Little Miss Sunshine and Napolean Dynamite were both soooooooo super funny LOL!! I am so there. Thank you reviewer for saying the magic words that tipped the scales on my deciding to go to this movie. The trailer looked like it had chance... now I know it doesn't.

This film deserves better than all the ND comparisons

    by bungion boy

I saw it at Sundance. It's not perfect. Quint nails it. Funny. Quirky. Sweet. The character of Jarod is a little like Napoleon in some respects, but it's really the story of Lily. And the characters in have a major difference from the ones in ND. They actually want something. They're on a quest for something. They're not just different for the sake of being different. I'm sorry. I don't want to start an ND debate. Just see this movie. It's quite good.

should not be held in the same regards as ND or E V S.
Both of those are slightly retarded comedies

Is it too early to start getting tired of the Lovable

    by creasybear

Loser comedies? 40 Year Old Virgin, Little Miss Sunshine, Napoleon Dynamite, Superbad, Knocked Up, etc., etc. If this keeps up, I'm going to yearn for the days of the Stiller-Wilson-Ferrell stranglehold.

Not as funny as ND nor as compelling as LMS

    by wongertron

I was really looking forward to this and saw it at SIFF couple of weeks ago. I have to say I was a bit disappointed. So much of the humor is mired by the sadness of these characters, and the romantic resolve at the end seemed incredibly abrupt. The director, Cohen, was at the screening and said he wanted to call the film "Sad Animals", which I think is more appropriate than the gimmicky "Eagle vs Shark". I would still recommend it, just not compare it to ND and definitely not LMS. Cohen even sounded like he made this film AND THEN saw ND.

I'm sure that kind of stuff is all well and good, but I was hoping this movie would be about an eagle fighting a shark.

from when they were grade school kids who punched the bloke they fancied and such. Adulthood just adds booze to the mix. Most of the adults I know are more childish than the children they themselves have.

Napoleon Dynamite, yes is over rated. Little Miss Sunshine is far from over rated. The performances alone in that movie render it unable to be over rated.

Don't worry, Nancy Drew is coming out this weekend for you.

    Saw it last night

    by truphan

There's a reson why everyone is comparing it to Napoleon Dynamite - it's a lot like Napoleon Dynamite. The cinematography and humor of the film is very similar. The Jarrod character weilds nunchucks. The main difference is in the story. Whereas ND was aimless, this story has a true beginning, middle and end, and isn't made by a bunch of Mormans. I'd call this Napoleon Dynamite with an R-rating (for some expletives and a pretty great computer scene). Recommended if you're not tired of ND. If you are, don't bother.

A comedy from Down Under? Awesome!!!!!!

    by potsmokinalien

i mean normally i would say that it cant' possibly top The Dish or Danny Deckchair, but ripping off Napoleon Dynamite and Wes Anderson movies just might push it over the edge of hilarity!!!!! Opening night baby, opening fucking night! I hear there is a scene where they fuck whilst wearing the titular animal costumes! What could be funnier! Wait, there is also a shot of them in sleeping bags sleeping head to toe, how charming and unexpected, if i was sleeping in a sleeping bag with someone, i would probably do it with both of our heads at the same end so we could kiss and stuff but i guess i am just not quirky enough!!! I'm glad i know about that shot too, so i can make myself laugh extra loud when i see it to tell everyone else in the theatre just how quirky an individual i am!!!!!!!! Yay commercialization of originality!!

Then I wouldn't have had the feeling I wasted 90 minutes watching this unfunny, derivative film. I was literally angry at myself for wasting the time slot at the festival when I saw this.
