A Few Pics From THE TALENTED MR RIPLEY

Published at:  Mar 24, 1999 2:32:53 AM CST

Here's a movie that had a wonderful script, directed by a fantastic director (Anthony Minghella of THE ENGLISH PATIENT fame), a great cast (Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett, Jude Law, etc) and... well... Since MIRAMAX is releasing it in the fall, it kinda means it has to be great... right? Well, here's the pics...

I love bikinis! Do you love bikinis? Bikinis are our friends!

Hmmmmm, no comment.

Ya know... Matt Damon looks a bit dweebish here. Cool!

    I'm 7th!

I am really looking forward to this movie. I love the book (the whole series as a matter of fact.) Ripley is twisted, but you root for him anyway. (Well, I do.)There is even the possibility of surprise. The book ended one way, the French film of it "Plein Soleil" ended a completely different way. And I'm looking forward to Matt playing dark. He knows how to make inteligent charcters appealing, can he do amoral wackos as well?

    Ripley

    by money g

Great. Here is the best picture of 1999. With Miramax distributing, it is a gimme that this film will win. Maybe they can get this Oscar cheaper?

Anyway, looks like a great film.

I hear Minghella is directing Cold Mountain next? Anyone heard anything? My wife loved the book.

    Paltrow - Hot, hot, hot

    by pdaddy

Does anyone else find Gwyneth to be the biggest hottie in shobiz right now?? Charlize Theron (sp?) is pretty cute as well, but I'd have to give Paltrow the nod for being the most BABERIFIC!!!!!!!

    Ok, L'auteur - Casting lesson

    by lynnbracken

That's Gwyneth in the bikini. The next picture is Jude Law - a guy. You can catch him in Gattica and Music from Another Room just to name a couple. He's good.
And Lane, what can I say. You might feel better if you actually did have sex in the woods and then went skinny dipping. Or not. Whatever. Anyway, looking forward to this movie.

    LANE...

    by lungrocket

Neil Lebute's next film is called NURSE BETTY if i'm not mistaken. The Talented Mr. Ripley looks to be the shit...The screenplay was a heavy meal to get through...but i am sure it will be good. Jude Law was in Paul Anderson's first film...Shopping ( a some what sci fi film about stealing cars)...and no...i am not talking about Paul Thomas Anderson...this guy directed Mortal Kombat, Event Horizon, And the somewhat limp Soldier...but anyways...thats all

    Are these set shots?

    by dennis

Isn't this supposed to be a period piece? Anyway, Gwenny sure could've used that push-up bra at the Oscars... I'm really looking forward to this film. Everyone in it is gorgeous!!! And we know what beautiful work Anthony is capable of.

    Paltro.

    by frankenstein

Ok, with Catherin Zeta Jones and all the wonderful looking woman in Holywood, why is everyone into Paltro?

I don't know if anyones noticed, but she is far from beautiful, she really just looks like a regular girl. Her breasts aren't really great, they are kind of small and to the side, she has very little muscle so her legs don't look that great, she also has a long tors with wide hips. Her face is nothing to scream about, she does annyoying speaches and in fact if you look at her mother during her speach there is a moment where she looks at her father as if wondering why Gwyneth was so upset. Its like "whats she going through?"

Also there are better actresses out there believe it or not. Julia Roberts who was originally considered for Shakespear in love could have done justs as good a job and she is a bit more attractive than Paltro. What was witht he pink dress? She looked like an idiot, her hair was flat and her body looked bad. Whats with this? Is everyone dellusional?

    I think it's her perfume...

    by dennis

Eau de Affleck. Look for her popularity to dwindle unless she gets a hot new boy-toy quick. I don't think Julia Roberts could've done SIL. Did you hear her accent in Mary Reilly and Michael Collins? Who told her that sounded Irish? They probably aren't working anymore. Paltrow should not have won for SIL: she simply (once again, I might add) played herself. Cate Blanchett on the other hand, WAS Elizabeth. The Academy, once again, plays favorites.

    Jude Law

    by jetalone

I like this young chap very much, ever since his fine performance in Gattaca (totally upstaging valley boy Ethan Hawke). Handsome devil, ain't he? I like my men unshaven and scruffy. Yes, he is a mighty fine-lookin' fella. Excuse me, I'm OD-ing on estrogen here...

On The Subject Of Jude Law (Sort Of)

    by mrbeaks

Did anyone else think that GATTACA might've been a classic if Niccol had jettisoned that awful narration? Great looking flick, and a wonderful finale (won't spoil it,) but nearly unbearable thanks to Hawke's overly intrusive voiceovers. A major missed opportunity.

Law was also in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
Paltrow is nowhere near the babe everyone thinks she is. She is hot because she was Pitt's woman and has a well known set of parents that are connected with Miramax.
Theron is no hottie either. Fat face.
Roberts is still the goods and worth the $20 mil. She'll return to prominence with this year's Runaway Bride.

    Jude Law

    by mooch

eXistenZ (he's the guy in the famous photo holding the flesh gun), Gattaca, Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil, Wilde, some new one with real wife Sadie Frost where they call each other by their real names, some other newish one that was supposed to be really empty and depressing and boring, he's also one of the Natural Nylon people along with Johnny Lee Miller, Sadie Frost, and Ewan McGregor, they might all be starring in a film together for their company. Best (mis)quotation: "Let's face it, I'm never going to get to play the Hunchback of Notre Damme, which is a shame, because it is part I'd quite like to do."

    Gattaca

    by drath

There was nothing wrong with the narration in Gattaca, it IS a classic. The only thing in the way was that it was a science fiction movie that didn't use oodles of CGI and pyrotechnics. Oh how dare they! They favored characters and story! It must have given Paul Anderson and everyone on the set of "Soldier" a heartattack. Alas, not a fatal one.
Jude Law is cool, actually everyone in the cast of this movie is cool. I like Matt Damon as a dweeb, he's likeable to me(more so than Affleck, but that's a question of personal preferance, isn't it).

    gwyneth

    by vedette

O.K., why is everyone putting down
Gwyneth? Someone said that she was just "herself" again in SIL. Was she herself in Great Expectations and Emma (both of which she did excellent work in)?
All 3 roles were very different, so she either has multiple personalities, or, like so few, can actually act so well that people believe that is the way she really is. As much as I like Julia, she would have sucked in SIL. She should stick with Notting Hill-type movies. It's what she does best. Gwyneth is our modern-day Grace Kelly, or Audrey Hepburn. She has put the glamour and sophistication back into Hollywood that it has lacked for so long. I can't wait to see Ripley!
