A Few Pics From KILLING MRS TINGLE...

Published at:  Mar 24, 1999 2:25:05 AM CST

Here's a few pictures from KILLING MRS TINGLE, the numero uno directorial debut of one Kevin Williamson. I haven't read the script by choice, cause I'm trying to stay in the dark on this one, but both Quint and Tom Joad seem to really like it, so I'll let that be the... 'it's cool' badge of the day.

Please william, tell us about that teacher's apple again? (Groan...)

Right now, Hollywood Man is picking his jaw up off the ground... Poor guy... He was so close... If only he'd gotten into that party!

Wow, any second Antonio Banderas will be appearing in the strange sexcapade!

    I'm Number 1

    by vincent vega

I love all horror, and I'm at the top, I'm at the top. YEAH! Also, I can't wait for this movie, Kevin rules, he such a talented writer, and though I hate to admit it, I even watch Dawson's creek (granted I'm 16 years old), but if you expect to go to a horror flik and see Citizen Kane you're fucked, cause you're not gonna see it. I'm eagerly awaiting scream 3. I'd have to say my 2nd most anticipated film of 1999: Nurse Betty (#1 is EWS) In conclusion, I love horror, you love horror, we all love horror. And Katie Holmes is hot.

How many of these insipid teen slasher picks do we have to put up with? If only these pics were real. Off with these flava of the month heads!!
    Mindless, senseless entertainment.
Has Williamson had an original thought, ever? Or will he keep ripping off late 70's early 80's slasher flicks? Puhlease.

    Dawson's Creek with cross bows

    by spike lee

I will give Kevin Williamson credit, the Faculty was very well written and fun, but the teen horror movement ($cream 1&2, I Know Last $ummer) which he recreated is bland compared to the films he based it on(Halloween). This film will be another hit, because what else are teenagers going to do over the summer. MEMO TO SCREAMING ANOYING TEENAGE GIRLS!!!STAY OUT OF THE PHANTOM MENACE ON THE OPENING WEEKEND!!IT WILL BE US GEEKS TURN TO ACT A FOOL IN THE THEATER!!I JUST KNOW I WILL SIT NEXT TO SOME GUY DRESSED UP AS YODA HOLDING HIS NEWBORN SON NAMED LANDO!!!

    CITIZEN KEVIN

    by l'auteur

is anyone else sick to death of what Kevin's view of teens is? has this guy any range at all or is it just quote-pop-cuture-and-get-a-knife-stuck-in-your-heart? and to Vincent Vega: why is it that every time someone defends a "fun" but bad movie they say:"what were you expecting, CITIZEN KANE?" its like just because its AFI's #1 then that means that thats what "good" film is and everything else is just popcorn trash? a horror film CAN be great (ive often heard PSYCHO described as the CITIZEN KANE of horror films). i dunno, im just tired of people thinking that all films are either KANE or dumb trash. its not that black and white. a film can be good if not great or bad. a film can be good or even great while being nothing like KANE. a film can attempt to be like KANE and still be teen horror. ok ill shut up now but please stop making such a fine line between popcorn movies and CITIZEN KANE---in my utopia, theyre all the same.

    Mouth of Madness?

    by lynnbracken

That starred Sam Neill, correct? Was it really good? I didn't see it because a million years ago I saw him in a horror movie with Isabel Adjani that was so bad, I actually walked out. And I NEVER walk out of a movie. (It's a principal thing.) Anyone know what movie I'm talking about? I'm too busy to check ImDB right now.

That movie is called "Possession." According to the All-Movie Guide, it was severely hacked for U.S. release (by about 45 minutes!)- their comment is that the film is typically "misattributed" to the horror genre when in fact it's got more in the way of psychological elements than gore. Apparently it's some kind of cult classic. I've never seen it but from the description AMG gives, it sounds pretty interesting. Perhaps there's a director's cut lurking out there somewhere?

In the mouth of madness was freaking terrible! I suppose you think it is really deep or something, it is crap! What next? Event Horizon was a masterpiece? There has not been a decent horror movie since The Shining, because good actors will no longer be in them. (The closest thing has been Se7en, but I hope to God it is not considered "horror")

...have you actually watched Scream 1 and 2? Everyone here bashes Scream and praises Halloween. That's beacuse Halloween holds up well today and was the only bright spot in the American slasher genre. However, Halloween is a flawed movie. The Teen characters are sooooo bland. Which is why Scream was so good. Halloween was good for a genuine chill and tense atmosphere. Scream is a satire of those movies. In 10 years from now we'll all be praising Halloween again, but we'll all be adding Scream to the list a great horror. Happens all the time. Scream 1 and 2 are the "Fright Night" and "Return of The Living Dead" of the 90's. Nothing more nothing less.

You Anti-Horror People Sucken Me- Part 1

    by vincent vega

Scream was a great movie, QT made Pulp Fiction from his influences, which is exactly what Kevin did with Scream, and his others. I'm not comparing the two, but I'm saying that's the deal. There have been dozen's of great post-Shining horror films, Nightmare On Elm Street, Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army Of Darkness, From Dusk Till Dawn, Prom Night, Terror Train. Wes Craven is one of the greatest directors we've got to offer, granted, he's made some shitfest, but who hasn't? And I wasn't comparing Kane to anything, I was saying people seem to expect serious masterpiece's from eveything they see, I really enjoyed Scream, it was tounge in cheek, it was meant to be that way. And to the guy who said Kevin hasn't had an original thought is ignorant, they're original in their own little way. I see Randy in myself, so I'll defend horror to the bone, I would compare Halloween to Kane easily. Horror follows the leader. Halloween in '78 produced several classic movies that were merely rip-offs, Elm Street, Friday The 13th, their sequels and every other movie released until '96 when Scream came out. Most Great movies are merely rip-offs of something else, isn't that was Brian De Palma has taught us? NO Dracula, no Blacula, no 2001 no James Cameron, no 'I'm Sparticus' fomr Sparticus no 'I'm gay' from In & Out, see what I mean? Also, there's Scream queens, they don't need acting abilities, just good looks and lungs. Were would Jammie Lee Curtis be if it wasn't for horror films? Neve Cambell? and Katie Holmes seems poised to become the next Screem Queen, personally I can't wait for Mrs. Tingle, it should be a fun witty film. Kevin makes the audience feel involved with the movie, like they know something the people on the screen don't. That's why his movies a profitable, and why he has so many Kevin wannabe's, he has a gift, a way of writing things that make people feel smart even if they aren't. So sure, most horror films are predictable, they follow the so called 'formula', but in a way, don't all movies? Isn't there a formula to this thing called life after all? And what about sequels? We need sequels, let's face it people, these days, ya gotta have a sequel. I loved Halloween 6, and 5, 4, and 2. Sequels rule, they tell us were the characters ended up, where would we be if there had never been a Halloween 2? I'd still be wondering what ever happened to Michael, wouldn't you? Horror films also deliver messages to the youth of today, don't have sex, or you'll be killed by a lunitic with a huge knife wering a jump suit. They teach adults not to overmother, they may end up like Norman, or Jason. They tell us to watch what toys we buy our kids, they could be possessed demon dolls who want to kill us for our bodies. In conclusion, don't we all see ourselves as psycho killers sometimes? Don't you ever want to pick up a knife and butcher the babysitter? If you say no, well, you're just not human, you're just not human.

your list of all the "great" post-Shining horror films does not include a single psychological horror film. I admit I love Army of Darkness, but it was comedy not horror that made it so good. The other horror films you mentioned are mostly slasher films. THE EXORCIST is a horror film; NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET is a slasher film; JAWS is a horror film; PROM NIGHT was a slasher film. Do you see the difference? Slasher films were great while they lasted (for about 5 or 6 years in the 80s) but now were all desensitized to them. That is why I cant understand this new wave of slasher films (thats what it is, they are certainly not horror films). Maybe other people still find someone getting a hook jabbed in their jaw entertaining but, honestly, it bores me to sleep. The first SCREAM had witty moments (i loved the "obligatory tit shot" as well as the 30-second delay scene), but ultimately, it was pointless and Ill tell you why. The ending was so incongruent with the rest of the movie. I was so entertained by the way the film made fun of slasher movies--i was hoping for an awesome ending. But the end was a cop-out. It made me think that they had written a bunch of endings and picked this one out of a hat, because it really had absolutely nothing to do with the plot of theme of the film. ditto with Part 2. Even worse, the ending made the film a hypocryte of itself because it reduced itself to a mere slasher film like the ones that it just spent 90 minutes ridiculing. Honestly, Im not sure how I would have ended SCREAM but with such a good first two-thirds, they should have have a powerhouse ending that destroyed the entire mystique of slasher films (the first two-thirds were on that pace and had that power). But then of course, if it had an ending like that, it would have made the possiblity of sequals impossible (suprise suprise--money rules all). PS- you ask where would Jamie Lee Curits be without slasher movies? She would be unemployed which would be fine by me. Shes the most untalented movie star actress period. And that includes Demi Moore.

You Anti-Horror People Suck- Part 2 The Final Nightmare

    by vincent vega

Slasher is obviously a division of horror, so to call it not horror is not stupid. Horror or 'slasher' as some call it, is far from boring, I love all forms of horror, Rosemary's Baby is my all time favorite horror film, and it wasn't slasher, I have the ability to walk into the theater and see Jason Part 230 or whatever, and I promise you I will see something good in it. I;m not like that, I walk out of films all the time, I've never walked out of a slasher movie though, ever. They're fun to see in theaters (that are packed) because people are constintly making fun, with funny little quips like, 'show your tits or die you slut!', or 'she got gutted because she gives bad head.' My personal fav. is one I came up with while watching Halloween 6 at a midnight movie: 'Man Michael Myers must be anerexic', anyone who's seen it knows what I mean :). They are fun to rag on with your friends at home, 'I'll be right back' or something to that effect. Horror or 'slasher' is what the kids are calling it these days I guess, is a vital part of our American society, I mean, teens would be constantly having sex if they weren't afraid of being brutally killed by a frustrated virgin in a hockey mask. Sure Star Wars is fun to watch, but would you sit through it making fun of how slowly the killer moves? I think not. You interact, that's the key, you get use your brain, to think up funny things to say. I think anyone who says Halloween sucks is a dumbass. Period. Horror is only boring if you watch it alone, so watch it with people and you'll see. In conclusion, DO NOT EVER SAY- 'I'll be right back.' Cause you won'tbe right back, you'll be killed. But you already knew that didn't you?

whoa. do any of you know what you're talking about?

    by daphmax

Um, if any of you had read any of the press AT ALL on "Killing Mrs. Tingle" then you'd know its not a slasher or horror film. Its more of a dark comedy/satire look at the extremes to which Ivy League hopefuls will go to ensure their good grades in high school. The kids kidnap a hated teacher in retribution for her treatment of them and then she starts fucking with their heads, and tries to turn them against one another. Gritty and involving a crossbow - well okay - but that don;t mean it involves a psycho serial killer. Geez.

And while you're all discussing Kevin's merits, all I'm gonna say is that yeah there's a definite soap oper-y and fantasy edge to his writing, but if you bash his pop culture referencing and word choices then clearly you never ever hung out with the smarter folks in high school. He's the real deal ... or as real as you're ever gonna see in Hollywood.

First time poster here...I usually stay out of these talkbacks but tonight i just had to jump in.I'm not going to say that kevin williamson is the greatest screenwriter that ever lived, but you gotta admit he does have talent. To me,if a movie makes me forget for a couple of hours this shitty, fucked up world we live in then it is worth the price of admission. All you film geeks that get into all your pretentious film speak are full of shit.I went to film school for two years and I still think it should all boil down to if a movie entertained you or not,and frankly ,allthe screams entertained the hell out of me.I had a blast sitting there in the crowded theater laughing along with evryone else and basically having a good time. i totally agree with daphmax saying that the reason you bash his pop culture references is cause you have never associated with the truly smart crowd.all the people i know talk like that and thats what made it cool, you could identify with the kids in the movies.also, ive noticed a new trend emerging where some people think that it makes them really unique to hate a movie simply because evryone else likes it.thats so dumb!you geeky bastards need to grow up.and lastly,to the guy who said he doesnt want screming teenage girls sitting next to him during Phantom Menace.....aww never mind, this one is much too easy.Ill tell you this, brother, you'll eventually outgrow the "girls have cooties" phase.ya'll stay frosty

Tingle is a slasher film, any way you slice it.
I miss the teen angst films of my youth, Breakfast Club, St. Elmo's Fire, Sixteen Candles.
Anyone seen A.M. Hall lately? His face like exploded! Still an entertaining actor.
