"'Veronica Mars' is officially dead," according to a Monday email authored by series mastermind Rob Thomas. “I think Dawn Ostroff genuinely would have liked to have continued on with a version of the show, but there was too much resistance around her,” Thomas told TV Guide’s Mike Ausiello Monday. “At the end of the day, it would've been kinder had the band aid simply been ripped off rather peeled away in than this agonizingly slow manner.” Fans have already bought and paid for a huge half-ton shipment of Mars Bars and other candy slated to be delivered to The CW’s offices Thursday. Their hope was the foodstuffs would precipitate a "Jericho"-like resurrection of the series. Ausiello suggests redirecting the candy shipment to Warner Bros.' feature division, where Thomas would like to get a "Veronica Mars" movie set up. No telling how this news will affect a planned Tuesday mass iTunes download of “The Bitch Is Back,” which is now the series - rather than just the season - finale of “Veronica Mars.” The silver lining for fans is Thomas is already rumored to have been approached to serve as showrunner of “Miss/Guided,” a midseason ABC series about a high school guidance counselor starring another fabulous blonde, Judy Greer ("Arrested Development," "Love Monkey").
