Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN remake gets a new poster!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I keep wanting every little bit I see from this movie to change my mind, to convince me that I just didn't understand the script or that Zombie's pass at HALLOWEEN is exactly the new, fresh blood horror cinema needs. I want that. The trailer didn't do much for me. Standing alone, it's okay, but once you've read the script it just cements in your mind that everything he got wrong is still wrong. And this poster... I don't get. Maybe it'll grow on me. DEVIL'S REJECTS had a great poster. Hell, even HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES had a striking poster. This poster looks like another WWE horror movie. If you want a closer look at it, you can click the image below and get the bigger version, where you can really get a look at the images in the collage.

    Me no likey

    by Abominable Snowcone

Too busy. Should be simple, hushed black and white tones. And Michael Myers has long hair? Not in my universe. See, the whole idea about being scary is to NOT show the guy all the time, like, for example, twice on the poster really big. It should be like the first Halloween, or Jaws, where it's scarier when the presence of the 'monster' is suggested or implied by other events onscreen. Jesus, I hope Zombie didn't fuck this up. This looks like another Gen-Y emo Evanesence horror poster like we've seen a million times over the last decade. My daughter could color a scarier poster.

    by FarSky

This movie started out looking like a terrible idea, and somehow (impressively) has managed to get worse and worse. This poster is terrible, the trailer was poor, and the script reviewed on this site was near blasphemy. Zombie, it appears, should stick to making cheesy yet catchy faux-horror music, and stay out of filmmaking until he learns what the hell he's doing.

Is that supposed to be Rob Zombie holding the knife? Since when did Myers have hair like that... Unless of course, Myers is being played by Buckethead, that I would fully support.

  • June 8, 2007, 12:30 p.m. CST

    I was wondering...

    by w_woody

Will we ever see Tyler Mane's face as Michael? If you had him in the movie without ever showing his face (always wearing a mask)I think the vibe could be the same as it was in the first film. I like the idea of humanising him a bit. I mean a real psychopath not some fantasy monster.

  • June 8, 2007, 12:31 p.m. CST

Why do they keep doing this?

    by Jakes Nel

I hate it when they try to give an iconic boogeyman one of those cry-me-a-river backstories. It's just a lame attempt at humanizing a character that is supposed to remain an unfathomable evil entity. They fucked up both Leatherface and Hannibal that way... That said, I like Rob Zombie. He's fun.

Killing people is so '80s. Been there done that. Come on Robert Z., make a cool sci-fi flick with robots and space junk. Here's an idea, remake "Ice Pirates". That would ROCK!!!!

  • June 8, 2007, 12:37 p.m. CST

    Poster looks really good

    by Jak0lantern01

If you go to the site, you get the full poster plus the theme. Kinda gave a bit of the goosebumps for some reason. I dunno, it sorta brought me back to the early 80's for a moment when I first saw the original. Too bad no one really wants to give this a chance. Everyone is complaining that Zombie deviated too much from the original. Menawhile, had he stuck to the original closely, everyone would bitch that it was a waste of time rip-off like the Psycho redux. Sure, it's a bit of a lose-lode situation regardless of how it gets painted, but I'm looking forward to the fresh take on this one. That's coming from a huge fan of the original, because that movie could only be made once.

I thought there was only one? I guess if this had Mike Meyers capturing babysitters and torturing them, dissecting them like frogs for two hours, this would be the movie of the century. Sorry but this sites credibility is really sagging due to Hostel 2 and the unrelenting Eli Roth lovefest. Zombie's trying,if it's good or not, i'll judge for myself.

I would pick "C."<p> Jimmy Page was involved in both musical projects you mentioned, whereas nobody from the original Halloween is involved here that I'm aware of. Choice "B" doesn't work because Spaceballs was not a remake or homage to Star Wars, but a spoof thereof. Choice "D" doesn't work, because although both Ms. Biel's breasts and a donkey's ass are object which could be penetrated, or spackled upon, by a penis, the suggestion that the original Halloween is akin to fine breasts is not accurate, because breasts are not a vagina, wherein one might culminate true sexual intercourse, and Halloween, being a classic horror picture, is the cinematic equivalent of vaginal intercourse. I think "B" is accurate because, love him or hate him, Alice Cooper was an original. Marilyn Manson's schtick is merely a pointless and nonshocking retread of Cooper, some twenty years late, and minus the talent.

    what's with the long hair?

    by bluebottle

if you were like, some psychotic killer, wouldn't you have, at the very least, short hair that you probably cut yourself? i'd think long hair would get in the way... or is it the "i'm so crazy i don't cut my hair" look? because then he should have a big bushy beard as well. or is he crazy, but still has time to shave? is that going to be in the movie? is there going to be a scene where he has his hair tied back, and he's carefully shaving? that would rock. please put that in, because then i'd see it.

I bet Rob Designed it. I hope the movie doesn't have any dumb ass characters like Zombies previous movies. Zombie allowed you into the world of the bad guys far too much in those crap movies.

  • June 8, 2007, 1:05 p.m. CST

I think this poster reinforces how it is different

    by TVguy4566

from the orginal. For me that is a bad thing (for others, maybe not). It seems to reinforce the theme that this Michael Myers was made evil not born evil. The long hair and bulky build reinforces that the actor playing Meyers is a physically impossing man rather than an average man with an angelic face like he was in the orginal. I am not oppose to a remake perse, but I do think that the orginal Halloween is as close to perfect you get with "slasher flicks" and I do think Zombie is abandoning much of what made the orignal special. I agree with Quint. This movie looks like it is going to make people who loved the original so much to cringe and not in a good way. I think in the long run, Zombie would be better off creating his own horror franchise with the single serial killer. I get the feel that other than individual scenes and characters being the same (at least in name) that this movie will have as much in common with Friday the 13th movies as it does Halloween at least in terms of themes and styles.

  • June 8, 2007, 1:05 p.m. CST

MIchael Myers has chosen HD-DVD.., and here's why:

    by Pound Sand

Because Laurie Strode has a Blu-Ray player, and it doesn't really bring out the black in Mike's eyes. The blackest eyes. The Devils' eyes. Oh, and an August 31 release date is a terrible idea. It's TOO SOON ! ! !

  • June 8, 2007, 1:09 p.m. CST

Great poster, and I like the trailer a lot...

    by Zeke25:17

...hell, I even like what he's done with the theme: kept it more or less the same but made it a little "nastier" sounding (the main piano bars have just the slightest tinny "off" sound, as if the piano was a thousand years old and played by a drooling maniac). While agreeing with most on this board re: Hostel 2 (bad), I have to disagree with the prevailing opinion on Zombie's Halloween--I'm guessing it will be one of the best horror films of the year. While The Fog remake was absolute butchery, I'm guessing Carpenter would be proud of this one...we'll see. If nothing else, the soundtrack works!

    Love it or hate it...

    by dcut75

Jury is still out till I see it. Don't blame Rob though, this remake was going to happen with or without him. At least they let him have total control(for good or ill). It could have been a director with a couple music videos and commercials, with no real knowledge or respect for the orig. Halloween, making this movie. The only way they could have made me care about this movie is to do exactly what they did, take a director with a known love for the genre, who doesn't make shit pg-13 movies. I may truly hate this when I see it, but I will see it and give it a chance. I wanted to hate the Dawn of the Dead remake, I mean really, REALLY hate it. But I thought it was great. (and if you remember, this very site posted an early script review of dotd that was shit, also a story that it was going to be rated pg-13!!) After Dawn, I'll give any remake a chance. (except The Thing, please don't do this Universal!).

    by bgart13

I mean, Eli Roth? I'll give him benefit of the doubt, just cuz Thanksgiving was great...but he still has to prove to me that the money being spent on him is worth it. I've yet to be impressed. In fact...Hostel is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Lame. Boring. Etc.

Again, the word "fresh" in relation to a movie

    by jorson2

I'm no fan of remakes, partticularly those of movies I don't think need or should be remade. Curiosity alone might get me to see this, but I'm writing to vent, because or some reason, I've developed a real nasty hatred for every instance of the word "fresh" used in any way relating to a movie. To me, fresh is for food and air, not movies. Besides which, from what I've seen, most of what passes for "fresh" on sites like these is little more than cinematic collages of plots and characters seen in decades past put together a little differently and, often, with little or no money -- ie, most Tarantino movies.

As for me, I didn't really like "House" that much, but thought "Devil's" was one of the most enjoyable films that came out that year (wasn't it like two years back?), so I'm kinda on the fence on this one, but leaning towards hoping its good.

the script, and apparently in the Rob Zombie universe everyone says "fuck" repeatedly, even when the word doesn't apply to the situation. His characters also get very angry in response to simple questions. I like the fact that Michael Myers used to masurbate to pictures of dead cats, that's HOT!!! Not that critics matter, but: You live in a free country, you put up with crud like Hostel Part II. It truly is crud, though. The film is the definition of torture porn, and regarding the Motion Picture Association of America's business-friendly, brain-free decision to give it an R rating: If this film gets by with an R, then what is left to warrant an NC-17?

let em remake whatever the fuck they want. In this case Carpenter will get some bucks, and he can buy some more reefer. All inferior remakes will find their way to the bargain bin eventually. I know production on remakes push aside the chance for original material to be made, and makes the studios choices dumber and safer, but after the abomination of Gus Van Fuck's remake of Psycho, Hitchcock's Psycho still remains untarnished and can be viewed at any time.

What an incredible waste of time for everyone involved

    by IndustryKiller!

Why would anyone who considers themselves an artist, like I'm assuming Zombie does, waste his time making an inevitably inferior remake of a film that stands the test of time so god damned well? The aesthetic could never match that of the 70's original, especially because so much of it's appeal derives straight from the era in which it was made. Bad script or not this is going to be a complete waste of time in a theatre. I'm also not sure Zombie can curb his penchant for exploitation to make a film of genuine horror.

Why does everyone love Christopher Nolan and Martin Campbell for reinventing Batman and James Bond and then so viciously rag on Rob Zombie for trying to do the same thing for Michael Myers? And I am not saying that this is true of EVERYONE, but why do their reasons more often than not mirror the ones already pilfered on this site? Opinions which, by the way, were from an early draft of the script. Call me a plant . I could care less. After all the Thorn crap in Halloween 6 and the Busta Rhymes smackdown in part 8, Michael Myers needs a freakin makeover and The Devil's Rejects is by far ample enough evidence Rob Zombie can do this quite well. It's been said that showing us why Michael became evil would make him less scary, but depicting events that the original movie does not contradict does not "explain" anything. People are unfortunately abused and picked on all the time but do not always pick up kitchen knives and go on killing sprees. Some turn out to be fairly well adjusted people. So where does the explanation come in? If you're tired of horror remakes I understand, believe me. But this would have happened eventually and a great filmmaker is behind it. Just don't hate it before you see it. Or because someone else does.

These people hate on movies they have not a single fucking clue about because we live in a world where the internet can make everyone seem like a badass. They can bitch and moan because nobody can see them or question them, hiding behind their computer screens. They call Eli Roth and Rob Zombie, in this TB, cunts and fuckers and saying they need to die because they have nothing better to do. Nobody here knows these guys and they think they can talk shit about them, the people, and not the movies themselves. If you dont like a movie, just say it and call it good. If you really want to rag on these guys, make yourself questionable to the public. And most people here were dissing on James Bond being redone. Then they were all praising it when it came out. Give the movie a little more of a chance. When it gets closer and more reviews come in, make a choice. Dont diss it before you know much about it.

Torture Pron began with House 1K Corpses...

    by spud mcspud

That long, long, long, long, long shot with the cop on his knees about to be blown away... and then he is. We're in no doubt what we're meant to feel when that happens: we're meant to be glad he shot the cop. Zombie was right there with the first beginnings of Torture Pron, along with Eli "IS a big cock, not HAS a big cock" Roth.<P> That said I've read the script on the net - fuck it's bad. Everything you hoped he wouldn't get wrong, he got wrong. Do we have to watch another derivative redneck psycho movie? He did it much better with DEVIL'S REJECTS (where at least the bastards got their comeuppances) and Carpenter's HALLOWE'EN is a sacred text in the history of horror. This will suck to the maximum. And Carpenter - one of the truly, truly great movie directors - deserved to be bitch-slapped for EVER agreeing to allow this to be made. He's a sell-out and Zombie is a limited film-maker at best.<P> RomeroRules: people hate this remake because the script is the most derivative, regurgitated piece of hacked together shit you will ever read. Every cliche about backwoods redneck psychos you can imagine is there. What - are we supposed to feel sorry for the kid? For fuck's sake. To see how the "inside the mind of a serial killer" movie REALLY works, try MANHUNTER and SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. I LOVE MANHUNTER, didn't like SILENCE in any way - way over-rated - but I can't argue that it is incredibly well-made and almost the authority in on-screen serial killer psychology. Truly encyclopaedic.<P> Sadly, something I don't think we can accuse rob Zombie of being. Stop reading FANGORIA and all those FBI "I know killers" books and writer something truly original.<P> Bring back Clive Barker. The sequels were shit but at least HELLRAISER was truly, completely original.

Did he learn NOTHING from the Fog remake? Can't some sympathetic movie fanatic billionaire pay Carpenter NOT to allow another remake? Fuck, I would... if I were a millionaire!!!

Any chance Paris Hilton plays a victim in this?

    by Big Dumb Ape

Because after having to endure the frickin' Paris saga ALL day on EVERY channel as if she warranted 9/11 event-like coverage, right now I'm rooting for the cathartic experience of another movie like HOUSE OF WAX where the nitwit gets it and is gone.<p>As for the poster, I'd say "Eh." On the one hand it's not heinously bad, but on the other it just seems a bit cookie-cutter to me. Nothing really special or especially clever in the art design. Wow, a big head that's actually a mosaic. As for the lower figure, and as others have noted, what's up with the rock star hair look? And the fact that he's carrying the mask (to somewhat humanise him) instead of actually wearing it just makes him seem emotionally smaller to me. Then again, I'll admit I'm lukewarm on the project altogether since I still don't see why they're doing a remake to begin with. The original remains essentially perfect as is, for what it is. This isn't a story that needed retelling at all.<p>Bascally my viewpoint is this: if you're someone like Zombie and you feel you have THAT much of an original, fresh take on something (like the slasher genre), then why not just DO an all-new, fresh movie that you really can call your own? Again, as others have said as well, I don't really want or need sort of lame "humanizing" backstory to explain Mike Meyers. Frankly, I think its far, far, far more scary to just think of him as a relentless killing machine that does defy explanation. My point being that once you do explain it all...well, it just loses a lot of its inherent mystique and terror. Some things are best left unexplained to ensure they're far more horrifying.

    by pdennett316

This COULD be a reasonable slasher movie. I hated Zombies other 2 flicks with a passion, but you never know he might have gotten better (thats a big fucking might). But, why didn't he just create his own franchise from scratch rather than simply leasing the name of another? He wouldn't be taking nearly so much shit. Oh, and the whole abused-as-a-child cliche is getting old, find some new way to make us sympathetic...maybe he lost his cat or something and he just snapped. Go post-modern and have a guy flip out after watching so many shitty remakes of superior movies - every TB'er would empathise with the guy, until Michael Bay kills him in a surprise, twist ending. What am I on about? Who knows?

  • June 8, 2007, 7:15 p.m. CST

    by FeedMeAStrayCat

I understand people have read the script and the trailer gives a look at the movie. I dont know for 100%, but is the script everyone said they read the definate final script? I'm not saying this is going to be great or anything, but most people seem to be hating this solely on the fact they are remaking it and the original is the best and should not be redone. Now, I love the original, but I'm not going to say the new one sucks before I hear anything real on it. Conclusions seem to be jumped at long before it seems appropriate these days is really the point I was making. There was the same hate before the script review, trailer, or poster. It seemed akin to people hating Casino Royale when only Daniel Craig had been cast. Now most have changed opinion. It seems we have some disagreement on Zombies movies, as Devils Rejects was the one I liked and House I thought was lesser horror. Werewolf was weak, and Cage was the best part, so I agree largely on that point. I It just seems like there is not civilized convo about things anymore.

I'm not saying they should continue to re-use Michael Myers as a character, but they'll do it anyway because they know if it's made cheap enough it will turn a buck. In fact they were going to go with a sequel before this remake thing was in the works, but Al Queda (sp?) decided to kill the old producer of the series, so we were going to get another Halloween regardless of what the "fans" wanted.

And look, I'm not some knee-jerk...

    by Red Ned Lynch

...anti-remake person. The Maltese Falcon was a remake. Carpenter's The Thing was a remake. There are plenty of properties out there that could not only be remade but could probably be bettered. Carpenter even made a few of them. For instance, there's a lot of good ideas in Prince of Darkness, but put the right person in the driver's seat and they could probably do it better. And I'm not even against lesser remakes that work in their own arena. I was pleasantly surprised to find the Dawn remake watchable. Snyder took the title and made an enjoyable little zombie movie with zero subtext. Because it clearly didn't have the aspirations of the original it could work on its own terms. And I wouldn't even automatically cry foul at a remake that took an icon and reconfigured it. But when you're dealing with an iconic movie figure you have to keep in mind what made that figure iconic in the first place. Can you play with those things? Sure. Can you abandon them? Well, they did with the American Godzilla, and that worked great, so...oh wait, no, it didn't. It was atrocious, taking away everything people loved about the cheesy big guy and yet retaining every bit of the cheese, while adding only the same tropes the guys who made it had already used (up) in Independence Day and Stargate. And so far what we've heard of this rebirth gives us a lot of White Trash Trailer Park boogie, which we've already been treated to from Zombie, and seems absolutely at odds with the central theme of the original Halloween, which was that this little boy went all the way wrong with nothing at all the cause it. Which, yeah, was central to what made the character. Now I don't pronounce any film dead until I've watched it at least long enough to see if it has a pulse, but the prognosis for this one seems pretty grim.

    What gets me, ranma627...

by Red Ned Lynch that these remakes are playing that same stupid card over and over again. The Black Christmas remake, which is probably the worst movie I've seen in the past twelve months, took a scary little movie which did the best job anyone's ever done with the "phone killer" bit, a movie that absolutely depended on never finding out anything about the killer, and turned it into this horrible abortion of a movie which, in addition to asking you to believe about a dozen of the most stupidly implausible things any movie has ever required a viewer to believe in order to continue suspending disbelief also gave the killer the most white trash obvious back story possible. Alcoholic, chain-smoking mother, murdering step-daddy, kid living in a hole in the attic color by numbers nonsense. And having read a draft of this movie's script it looks like the same thing in even greater caricature. One would think that logically, if it were your wont to remake a movie, you would try to do the following three things: 1. Identify and keep those things that made it unique and/or made it worth remaking. 2. Identify those elements which didn't work and/or could logically be improved and try to fix or improve them. 3. Update those things which may have worked at the time the original was made but which thematically, or because of societal changes would no longer be effective, while always keeping in mind points 1 and 2. It just doesn't seem like that hard a formula, and remakes which have been successful seem to have followed it.

  • June 8, 2007, 9:35 p.m. CST

So, what would the essential things NOT..

by Red Ned Lynch change in Halloween be? 1. The relationship between Loomis and Michael. 2. The completely inexplicable nature of whatever "happened" to Michael to turn him into the unstoppable, inhuman monster he has become. 3. The Mask. Anyone care to add anything else? These are the three things I can think of, and, unfortunately, the only one it looks as though this movie kept was the mask.

    The Script...

    by Alonzo Mosely

To the guy who asked, no we are not bitching about the shooting script, but the first draft, and yes that makes us cunts because bla bla bla However, I defy anyone to read it and think the same guy is going to do rewrites and make it a good movie. <p> Also there is a huge difference between a remake and two different films based on the same source material. Someone mentioned The Thing and Maltese Falcon, these are great because they went back to the source material and did a much better job with it than the earlier movie. That is not at all the same as some studio exec saying 'hey, you know what movie I used to like, and which the key demographic has never see? Well lets remake that fucker... Now move the poolboy and the coke closer to me, I don't want to cross the room...<p> And lastly to the 'well isn't a remake better than another sequel' argument. STOP FUCKING PLAYING THEIR GAME. We don't need either, lets do something that is as fresh and interesting as Halloween was back then. Amazing idea, that used to be the soul of cinema, but seems to have been discarded around ten years ago...

i don't understand why so many people get pissed off cuz someone wants to reimagine a series like this. why complain about remakes when the real complaining should go to the crappy lame ass sequels that kept coming out. at first i was pissed off that they were remaking halloween just as i was when they remade the TX chainsaw massacre. but after watching the remake of chainsaw i realized that this was just a new start to the series. it wasn't truely a remake but just a fresh take on the whole thing. c'mon sheriff hoyt became one of my favorite family members since chop top. as for halloween, the only good movies from the original series were parts 1, 2, and H20, which i consider the real halloween trilogy. but that story has been told and now it's time to start it over and hopefully if this movie is done well then any sequels that come after it don't go all shitty like the sequels to the original movie. but that's too much to ask for isn't it. keep michael myers a crazed killer with all the rage and anger in him and keep him away from the supernatural cult that was controlling him, cuz that was just stupid.

Rob Cummings should have stole the Jaws plot outline

    by ThePilgrim

A drunk teen girl who went swimming disappears her dismembered body is found. The Towns Police Chief begins to suspect that it's a shark after a killer whale turns up with dismembered on the beach. The Towns Higher Up's don't want anyone in the town too know that they might have a shark issue so they tell the Chief to shut up and quit making a scene. We have a flase attack mayhem insues all are shaken. The Chief gets in big trouble, and then another real shark attack goes down. A shark expert shows up. He gives the Chief a book on sharks and let's him know a few things about sharks in general. The town folk try to find said shark but they wind up hurting one another. some stupid kids punk the town and make them think that they are a shark and it's too bad that they survived. Finally another personal attack from the shark that almost cost the Chiefs sons life goes down. The Town's Higher ups and the Chief approach a guy who's killed sharks his whole life. The shark killer is a despot who remains on the drunk. His only concern is the rich reward he will recieve for finding and killing said shark. He doesn't think much about the Shark Expert or the Chief. They set out with only themselves as company into the sharks stomping grounds to bait and trap said shark. What happens from this point forward is nothing short of amazing. If I had the task to reimage Halloween. I would borrow from Jaws plot outline. Instead we get White trash, dead dog polaroid jerking, stripper mom and her loser dick drunk cruel verbally abusive boyfriend having, school boy-girl looking bullied, baby sister lusting, psycho killer, and a Loomis who is such a twat- whos all about his book and his fame and elegant lifestyle. Fuck this remake.

Teh largest hate group on the planet?

    by Stewie_Griffin

Firstly the whole idea of a re-imagining is bollocks. If it was shit in the first place, no one would try, they only go for films that were already fine (waits for Scorsese's Soul Man) and then what's the point?? The whole idea of this is shit, rebooting this is shit and pandering to inept filmmakers like Zombie is ridiculous. What has he done in the past to even be considered for a project like this?? Nothing. Utter shit. Now what we have here is probably the largest group of perople who collectively care (or just moan) about a subject. So it may as well fall to us. We have a choice. Sit here behind a screen and moan or don't go see it. not only that, tell everyone you know you have seen it and it was the biggest pile of shit you've ever seen. I don't know about you guys, but there are at least 5 people I know who won't go see this film on my recommendation. what if we all do this?? I couldn't care less if it's the greatest film in years, they need to be stopped, the fact hey even tried sickens me. Send out a message lol

Vampires are gay, dickless men with long teeth. Whats so scary about that? Just give us a Dyed In The Wool Director that brings forth a film that is so original and strong with it's message that We can truly say that they are among the legendary pedigree of the past Artists of the Horror field. John, Wes, Romero, and Hoopers first horror film messages were extremely strong and legendary. These first outings have all endured the test of time and where mega sucesses when released both commercially and impactually. Let's stop saying great student of the genre. why are failed first in the attempts in horror so honored. If time has proven anything wiht horror you either you come out with "The Shit" "if you rto be the shit for 10 years or so" or your an "Ass caked in colon mud". Thats all there is too it. Wes, John, George and Tobe did just fine on the first horror outings they took. Sure they did their little experiment films before hand, but they didn't showcase it too a large audience. They made their mistakes in secret, and learned from them. Praise and Honor were found in Merit not Placment.

    Spidercut thats is exactly

    by ThePilgrim

Spidercut thats is exactly the demographic Rob is after. He says he hates Emo Fags and yet his myers is exactly that. He's a boy but he looks like a pudgy girl. He has a bad life everything with a pulse fucks with him. His mom is a stripper her boyfreind is a drunk. She neglects him. The boyfreind verbally abuses him and makes psychical threats. Myers abuses and kills small animals. He masturbates to the recordings of these animals being abused while looking at pictures of thier dismembered corpses. His older sister is slutty. She verbally abuses him him and calls him a freak. Kids at school pick on michael myers and beat him up. The whole town knows that his mom shakes her ass for money. He records himself killing his first victim. A small girl he follow home. He tricks her into following him too what he claims to be a halloween candy tree that makes candy on halloween. He pulls a dead cat out of the tree. Then he pushes her into a hole and wacks her over the head with a stick over and over again and then he pisses on her dead body. then he goes home waits for his sister judith to fuck her boyfriend he kills him then he kills his mothers boyfreind and then he kills his sister. He leaves the baby sister laurie alone. He admires her. Maybe because she seems pure to him or something. He recorded the killing spread on his trust tape recorder and he sits on the front steps playing it when his mom comes back home. I mean if that aint some Emo fag shit. i dont know what is. Rob said that remakes where lame. Now he's making a remake but he says it's not a remake. Rob says toys made myers to cute and killed his scary off. Rob has a toy myers figure coming out from neca toys, and he gives away free stickers for his total skull fans. Rob says the dog photo jerk off fest was just a casting call sheet used to weed out leave it to beaver types from his film and not something with in any draft of the screenplay. Robs a face saving, Through the teeth lying, Snake oil selling, Sound byte ripping, Too many "Yeah" hollaring, TCM scene remaking, talentless piece of hackshit.

Gotta admit, i liked Devils rejects (how many times can Rob zombie show his wifes ass crack?)Shone above and beyond its predecessor, and i've been a Zombie fan for years (check out his hallucination contribution to the Beavis and Butthead movie). That being said though WHY???? Not only was it genius in its day, it also had the only semi decent Carpenter score. Posters OK. Not spectacular, but it catches your eye, dont think you have to worry about having "THE MASK" all over it, people know, what William shatner painted white looks like. Gotta say Biggdogg's right, Myers does look like a greasy rocker (ala Otis from Zombies 2 earlier efforts), and the house in the bottom left hand corner bares a striking resemblence to the Firefly house from zombies first 2 efforts. not sure what the deal is with all these remakes, none of them are any good, so the chances of this being any different are slim. I'll take a look but on rental methinks.

    Torture Pwn... I actually agree

    by spud mcspud

Torture Pwn - after a few skirmishes in the Roth TBs (FUCK HOSTEL!!! ;p) I actually agree with you here. I actually found HALLOWE'EN: RESURRECTION funny as hell, because up to that point none of the sequels were nearly as good as the original. Busta Rhymes in the cast? No-one's dumb enough to actually BELIEVE that could be good!!! It was funny, in a shit, JASON X kind of way.<P> Wes Craven bravely tried the reboot route with NEW NIGHTMARE. Didn't totally work, but you have to respect the attempt: take what frightens you about the character, magnify that, ignore what didn't work, and update it. Pretty fuckin' simple to me. Rob zombie basically just remakes everything in the TCM's image: if he loves it so damn much ,why not just go make a sequel to Marcus Nispel's movie? Can't be any worse (though Biel was the hotness in that flick!!).<P> Fuck Rob Zombie. Okay musician, fucking awful film-maker. Leave our HALLOWE'EN alone!!!

    Two more...

    by Red Ned Lynch

...When a Stranger Calls and Black Christmas. For my money Black Christmas was the very worst of the lot, as I ranted above. When a Stranger Calls was a close second. I would rate The Omen remake as third worst, followed by The Hitcher and then the TCM remake, which though bad and unable to generate even a fraction of the scare value of the original did distract me with a sweaty bouncing Jessica Biel. I don't really count the Psycho remake as part of this cycle of cynical crap. It certainly was bad, but at least I think Van Sant's motives were pure. It was an idiotic, narcissistic exercise, but I think it was sincere.

I mean, there is Michael looking at some view of Haddonfield, the sky filled with his past, and finally he's gonna track them down and face them. I'd like this poster a lot more with the tagline it deserves.

    "Remakes Have A Built-in Audience"

    by The Dum Guy

Just like sequels, so to the person who said we "shouldn't play the studios game" or something like that, the fact is as long as their are people that will continue to see movies that remind them of other movies we will forever have to endure shitty re-makes and shitty sequels, or you can just not watch them.

  • June 9, 2007, 1:50 p.m. CST

That is what I meant by not play their game, dum guy...

    by Alonzo Mosely

They only do it because so many of the people who whine on these boards then go and buy a ticket and then come and complain afterwards and then pick it up on DVD, despite the fact they hated it, because there was nothing else that Tuesday...<p> If you dislike this trend, and I am sure from the talkback posting level I am not the only one, actually stand by your convictions and give the studios no money. Enough sustained flops over enough time will get the message through, but giving the studios a tidy profit and then bitching is not helping...

  • June 9, 2007, 1:58 p.m. CST

    Yeah, but sequels...

    by Red Ned Lynch

...bad as their batting average is, are in a different world than remakes. Now personally, I don't think the Halloween franchise ever had a good sequel. The second movie is bearable, the Season of the Witch is great fun to laugh at, but I don't think there was one quality movie in the bunch, and I just pretend most of them don't exist. On the other hand, I'll stack Godfather II, Dawn of the Dead, The Laughing Policeman, Aliens, The Road Warrior, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Dr. Phibes Rises Again, X-Men II and the second Spiderman against the top ten remakes you can name and we'll see who comes up with a more watchable bunch of movies. And those are just off the top of my head, and I'm not including anything from the planned in advance bunch like LOTR or Star Wars, so no claiming I didn't play fair.

  • June 9, 2007, 2:11 p.m. CST

    I like it okay...

    by grungies

It's not blowing my socks off, but its not repellent either.

  • June 9, 2007, 2:24 p.m. CST

Alonzo Mosely, I only wish I was as optomistic as you..

    by The Dum Guy

As far as a belief in the power of us as a commuinity (or even the internet altogether), but after SOAP and Grindhouse flopping (which the first should have but Grindhouse was pretty enjoyable) I don't think the studios completely care about, maybe just an iota. I personally know too many people that go to the theatres and see shit like The Omen remake and Epic Movie (hell, I know someone who said Catwoman was good) to let me believe that this trend of sequels/remakes will ever end.

  • June 9, 2007, 2:30 p.m. CST

And maybe even more to the point...

by Red Ned Lynch's not about remakes. It's not about sequels. It's about an entertainment industry powered by cost analysis and firmly ensconced in the corporate mindset, where if you said yes to The Fog you're probably safe even if it didn't do great business but if you said yes to Crispin Glover's down's syndrome movie you're going to have to move your things out of your office. Was The Messengers a sequel? Was An American Haunting? Were they remakes? Sure, bad remakes hurt because if you loved the original it's like someone spit on your mama. And bad sequels hurt because if you liked the original you probably thought that was just about right and just about enough, or you had your hopes pinned on one of the hundred different interesting possibilities that could be explored and the guys who made the movie chose to reuse those same three taglines instead of have different stuff blow up even bigger. But Hollywood (and more often, even the *cough* indies) ain't exactly setting no land speed records with original movies either. If you boycotted every sequel you would have skipped say, The Road Warrior, or Godfather II or Aliens. If you boycotted every remake...okay, I'll admit that seeing an okay little zombie movie in Snyder's Dawn probably isn't enough incentive to move anyone on this one. But you look at the movie, just like folks are doing with this one. You decide if it looks like a good bet, just like folks right here in this talkback are doing with this one. Then you give it your money or you don't.

    by redfist

But the most stuff that comes out about the movie, (trailer, poster, story hint) the more I want to just hunt down Rob Zombie and cut his fucking eyes out so he cant make another movie. He is seeming to ASSRAPE the whole idea of the Halloween. Just about as bad as all the Deminsons sequals in the 90s. I alson have the strange feeling that Dr. Loomis is not going to be as hero as he was in the orginal, but they will play him more like a sleezy Dr. Phil type, but that is just my hunch.

Rob Zombie is a fucking fake.

    by Thorstrongstone

Is it me, or do his movies just seem like big-budget films made by a kid who has just seen Last House on The Left.Don't get me wrong, The Devil's Rejects was a cool movie, but look at his other stuff.<br> House of 1000 Corpses was a half-assed attempt at making a horror flick. There was only one decent part, and that only lasted for a minute. Watch it again, it was a terrible movie.<br> And he redeemed himself with The Devil's Rejects.<br> Then came time for his Grindhouse Trailer. What the fuck was that? That had as much Grind-House-feel to it as a fucking Disney film. Sure, Nick Cage as Fu-Manchu was funny, but that was its only achievement. It looked too clean. It was too pretty. Too big-budget. <br> And now he is going after Halloween. Christ, if you love something, you do not go and piss all over it. Unless, it asks you to. What's next, the Evil Dead remake?<br>

A horror remake I really would like to see is..

    by DirkD13"

Maniac Cop. It had a GREAT idea, but an awful execution.<p>But what's going to be next? Friday The 13th remade? A Nightmare On Elm Street? Society, with ultra-fake looking cg melty bits? In fact the only good thing to have come from the current glut of horror remakes was The Hitcher (wait a minute!), because it inspired me to seek out the original, which I had never seen. It was fucking awesome and Rutger Hauer is a legend.

    SOCIETY remake

    by spud mcspud

Oh, if anyone remakes that CLASSIC, I'm coming after 'em!! ;p<P> In all seriousness, Rob Zombie's movies always end up looking like TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (original). If you love that fucking movie so much (God knows I don't) go fucking remake the remake! Or make a decent sequel? Anything but this shit!<P> HALLOWEEN works because we know nothing about this comfortably middle class, average suburban kid other than he flipped out one day and killed his sister. That is it. Why? Who fucking knows? THAT'S the point: average middle class suburbia has the Devil in its midst and his name is Michael Myers.<P> Take Michael and give him a working class, Bumfuck Kentucky (thank you Dr Greg House) upbringing in some run-down, falling to pieces shack with a fuck-your-sister eat-the-dog-cos-we-can't-afford-chicken family, and what have you got? The TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE prequel.<P> No talent, no originality, no understanding of what made the original so great. Just a love of that fucking redneck chainsaw movie. Rob, get the fuck over yourself, you will never be as great a film-maker as Carpenter. Don't even.

    The origin of Michael Myers...

    by Zeke25:17

...was first addressed in the novelization by Curtis Richards back in 1978. Apparently, WAAAAYYY back in medievalish times, some deformed kid named Enda (really) had a crush on the local Celtic hottie, who of course couldn't stand him and hooked up with (who else?) the local stud. Flash forward to the wedding dance around the bonfire: Enda slices both bride and groom up like a Thanksgiving turkey, gets torn apart by the happy revelers, buried in unhallowed ground and is cursed to "Relive thy foul deed every hundred years", or something like that. Anyhoo, it's never explained how the evil spirit gets into little Mikey in the first place: but that was one idea of a history. It did lend a bit of credence to the Shape's seeming invulnerability...if Zombie had gone with that, I mighta been okay with it. Ah well, I'm going to see this thing opening day anyway--so far, it looks (and sounds) good enough to take a chance on.

    stop bitching

    by madmoviemike

I'm not saying that this film is going to be good because lord knows I'm tired of all these shitty remakes, but I know more then half of the people that are writing in are going to see this in theaters. so STOP BITCHING!!

  • June 10, 2007, 1:07 p.m. CST

    Yeah,right madmoviemike

keep telling yourself that. I'm sure lots of people are eager to throw money away on something they know will be utter shit.Maybe when a workprint hits the streets,or better yet hits the web for free.No reason to spend money to play MST3K.Plenty of shit movies on cable to practice on until then. It's one thing to be curious about exactly HOW shitty a movie will be.It's something else to PAY for that displeasure.

    Regarding the release date...

    by RBrooksC

I said it before and I will said it again. The reason for the release date being Aug 31 is because the movie has been deemed by the movie studio to be awful. It is standard movie studio procedure to dump their movie garbage over the Labor Day weekend. The chances of this movie being anything by completly awful is between slim and none.

    by jimbo86

I don't get those who argue that the Myers who can't be killed is a more scarier concept than the more realistic physically imposing psycho that can. I'm liking the overall tone of it as well, but I'm not sure about Malcolm McDowell as Loomis.

If you are a true Halloween MM fan, you WILL go see this. I don't sweat Rob Zombie's music or films, but this looks like it is going to be GREAT!!! He's taken into consideration all of the aspects and history of the film in creating its (PREQUEL) that's why the figure in the poster has long hair...he's MM as a child! And the actor Daeg Faerch looks like he will be pretty good, and F---ing scary as hell...
