Neil Jordan! Jodie Foster! Terrence Howard! THE BRAVE ONE Trailer Online Now!

Published at:  Jun 07, 2007 4:15:51 PM CDT

I’m a little slow getting this up because I’ve spent the last sixteen hours trying to make sense of my notes from the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA event in Hollywood, but this is a fascinating trailer from Neil Jordan. I’ve always liked this guy as a filmmaker, and the older the gets, the less I think I know who he is as a director. He seems to be one of the few people who can just skip from genre to genre, style to style, and never make it feel like an affectation. He’s an old-school director. You give him a good piece of material, and he’ll make it work. I’m dying to know what he’s going to do with THE COLLECTOR when he tackles it, but for now, it looks like he’s riffing off DEATH WISH.

AWESOME! Like a female Falling Down, or an urban Straw Dogs. Can't wait. Love the music at the end of the trailer.

But I wonder how much they've given away in the trailer. It seems as if you see how the entire movie plays out. Then again, maybe it doesn't. Looks good.

If you were referring to last night's shindig. And Olmos is the man. His speech about the continuation of the Blade Runner Philip K. Dick themes was so right on. That's why BSG will stand the test of time!!!

I'm curious about that BSG-event report. What did Olmos say about Ford and Blade Runner's BO? That trailer seemed a bit long and a little too informative.

This movie is going to actually be closer to the character of Frank Castle from the comics than Marvels The Punisher movie was.

They filmed some of this movie on my block, and all I have to say is Naveen Andrews is a stand up guy. Spent a good 5-10 minutes chatting with him while he was on a break, mostly about Planet Terror, which he had just wrapped filming on at the time. No ego at all. As for the movie, I'm actually a bit surprised. From the onset talk, it seemed like Foster wasn't gonna be going this vigilante. An improvement IMO

In my great state of Massachusetts you have to use every advantage at your disposal not to fire your weapon. Meaning if you can escape instead of useingforce and you still choose to fire your gun you can be brought up on charges. Now that is a loose interpretation of the law, but i have friends who are business owners and gun owners and if someone robbed their store they would not be justified in shooting the assailant unless he first took shots at them.
I am almost as liberal as they come, but thats just asinine IMO!

As for the movie i think it looks great, pushed to the brink and deciding to push back, yeah for female empowerment with a BANG!
    Jodie gets butch baby.

    Death Wish

    by boromir187

I like both Neil Jordan and Jodie Foster, but I'm getting a "tame Death Wish" vibe from this one. I hope I'm wrong though. Also, isn't Jordan directing "A Killing On Carnival Row" next for New Line now that Guillermo Del Toro is off the project.

    Vigilantes and Dogs

    by elohim

I know it's difficult for people trained to respond to catchphrases, but did you guys really not get the dog thing? That was her dog the guy had in his yard. The dog that (I would guess) has been missing since the night her husband was killed. She appears to be taking it as proof that this guy was involved in the event.

As for the trailer, I think it looks great, and I got the impression that it was a more complicated/ambivalent look at vigilante justice than the Bronson-fest you guys seemed to think it was. Then again, Mogwai can make me like almost anything. Who knows, we might actually have to wait and see the movie.
