Hyde Park Entertainment and MGM know what we need... more remakes!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Yep. We don't have nearly enough remakes thinks Hyde Park Entertainment and MGM. Brian DePalma's DRESSED TO KILL is the first up. sigh...
At least they're wanting to produce 12 remakes a year for the direct to DVD format. That's almost unofficial, a step above made-for-cable sequels. I know when I think of THE BIRDS I never even take Showtime THE BIRDS 2 P.O.S. into consideration. That never happened. That's like fan-fiction.
I just hope that if they start to pilfer DePalma's catalog that they leave BLOW OUT the fuck alone. And PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE. I'll let them have THE FURY as long as they don't touch those two...

The Dirt Bike Kid and The Peanut Butter Solution.

Let them remake whatever they want for DVD. Who cares? Are they trying to corner the 'senile-grandma-too-blind-to-be-able-t- tell-original-from-remake-when-buying-christmas-present' market? Ignore these and they might just go away.
-
If Hollywood studios were prohibited from producing remakes and sequels for just one year, it would be interesting to see what they would actually come up with.
-
Blow Out already was a partial remake of Antonioni's Blow Up anyway. And a dumb, misogynistic one at that.
-
7th. Lucky me.
-
DRESSED TO KILL is a PSYCHO knockoff. OBSESSION = VERTIGO. BLOW OUT = BLOW UP. SCARFACE = actual remake. Come on, Quint. Oh, you'd prefer to call them homages? I see.
-
...you are so right.
I sometimes wonder why do I love movies? The people making them don't seem to have any respect for their product's heritage -
You can remake Gone with the Wind, the Wizard of Oz, even Citizen Kane...........but DO NOT EVEN THINK of touching Phantom of the Paradise! It's just sheer perfection. Period. Ok, MAYBE you can remaster it in 3-D, but you 'll have to answer to Swan if it suffers (and believe me, you will too).
-
It was fun while it lasted.
-
Why? Why? THEY HAVE BEEN DOING REMAKES FOR FUCKING EVER! SERIOUSLY! FOR FUCKING EVER! That's how it works. One day...they are going to remake some movie we love now 30 years in the future? Why? It's a good story. Which can be retold. Oh it will be total shit, and people will recommend the original film. Yet...that's how these things go.
-
We miss you baby ! I didnt mean all that shit i said about you , honest !
-
Is it good in a silly way or really good? Looks very camp...
-
Yeah, something tells me a remake isn't quite going to be as good as DePalma at his most fetishly voyeuristic or have a score 1/20th as good as Pino Donnagio's.
-
I guess it's just easier to sell a name and a nostolgic idea, rather than something fresh and new. They have numbers to support their sell. Even though, they end up changing the franchises so much it's something entirely new anyway.
-
The Valley of the Gwangi - Like Peter Jackson's King Kong only, you know, actually entertaining. Vanishing Point - With Ryan Gosling as Kowalski and replace the Gay carjackers with a cannibal!. Bring me the Head of Alfredo Garcia - nothing wrong with the original but jack up the body count!
-
You have turned gold into excrement!
-
Art versus business. Business always wins. Always. Sad but true. Knowing that, the only way you're gonna get back to the original stuff is to fight back with the only thing that businesses care about -- our dollars. Just stop watching the shit remakes. Tell your budies. You guys are "influences". Influence people to not partake of the remake shit train. It'll take a while, but it will work.
-
...If they left alone Blow Out, and just remade Blow Up, only with a sound technician instead of a photographer? Or if they kept their grubby paws off of Phantom Of The Paradise and just made Phantom Of The Opera into an embarassing homolicious rock opera instead?
-
Jodorowski rules ok.
They seriously need to give him loads of cash to make a big budget final hoorah! before he dies. :-(
That would be amazing...
-
That's something I guess. But the idea of a direct-to-DVD CONAN remake makes me shudder in horror.
-
you know this to be true.
-
Why don't they remake everything he's done since Carlito's Way?
-
So I say, fair game

...remakes will walk the Earth,"
-
Fox IS going to remake POTP. I just hope he doesn't look like a member of Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets...
-
You guys never cease to impress me with your creative decision making. Ya'll my boys! I say, remake EVERYTHING! It's been 12 years, where's my "Waterworld" reboot/reimagineactment?
-
Remember back in the olden olden days? When artists needed patrons to support them while they worked? And the artists would do some commercial stuff to keep the patron's favor but would also do stuff that was important to them and was really good? We need that system again. We need Peter Jackson living at the Bill Gates estate making a few movies Bill Wants to see but also getting money from Gates to make his own Bronze Horse. As an added bonus, using this system would relegate Uwe boll to making corporate sexual harrasment videos. SO win-win!

Now, this is just a bug in Hollywood's ear here. But the kids love those "bangin" video game movies, I say how 'bout a "LEGO Star Wars" franchise? C'mon, it's already laid out! They even call the chapters in the games "Episodes"! C'mon Hollywood, This is a dish of fried gold with a side of dope sauce.
-
I had done an outline of how I've envisioned the remake...mind you, it has Swann more like Simon Cowell, a new love interest for Phoenix that isn't a psycho, and the talents of Bill Hader, Andy Samberg and Jason Sudekis as the trio that shows up throughout the film and Phantom SINGING. I'm sorry, but I just think it was a horrible idea for him NOT to sing.... http://tinyurl.com/2xbrax Yes, berate me all you want, but things have changed in the past 30 years.
-
PEOPLE. They have been doing remakes since the SILENT era. It's the nature of the business. It ain't new, and it will always be the norm. Save us your laments, and ignorant rants.
-
His best movie (Scarface) is great only because it was a lucky shot. He took a crazy creative long shot and he nailed it (for many of the wrong reasons). He's like the auteur version Schumacher. And yes I like a few of his movies, but he really gets a good rap for making a couple of good movies. PEople seem really willing to forget some of the worst movies ever made like The Fury and Black Dahlia.
-
...whenever they would show kane's face they superimpose Jessics Biel's ass? They could just re-release they original with that addition. Then they could re-release a slew of Hollywood classics with the superimposed asses of todays hottest starlets. I think Paris Hilton's ass would be great with Jimmy Stewart's voice coming out of it.
-
Why? Jonathan Anton was perfect. Totally bangin' hair. Have you heard of my new product 'Dirt'?
-
"Satan's Alley" rides again! FIIIIIIRE!!!

Quint's spent too much time looking up to Headgeek. He's regressed to typing "sigh" now to express his feelings about the latest doomed remake announcements. ("Sigh" equals "Why don't those silly studios just know better? Why don't they know that if they just asked me, then I could tell them every movie that they should make right now, and everyone wouldn't have to suffer through all of these terrible wastes of film that I know better than to spend my money on. When will they learn?")It's trademark Harry shorthand. Just call Quint 'Harry Jr.'from now on.
-
...Blow Out was a remake of Blow Up!
-
has been kicked around for years. Pressman apparently owns the rights. I believe there's even an IMDB listing for it. Paul Williams is down for it as well (there was also discussion of a stage version); I don't object, I just want to see them improve on it, not destroy it. -
but Dressed to Kill? They just don't get it. Do remakes even do better financially than the originals? I remember looking a few recent remakes up and in some cases they didn't even seem to make back their budget. And I did think I saw something about a Phantom of the Paradise remake as well. I can just see Beyonce screeching through "Old Souls". *vomit*
I guess I just have to learn to live with the idea of them remaking absolutely everything. I don't know why it still bugs me. I think I'll go through my list of favorite films, try to think up the worst possible remake casting and directors for them and then when it does happen, I won't feel so bad. -
I second that emotion.
-
Peter Jackson directing. That would be a hot ticket. Though of course George will never let that happen.
-
or just a special edition with a CGI Mac. MGM made a killing on the MAC and ME DVD ... didn't they?( I would of bought it but they only put out a FULLSCREEN DVD and I didn't want to miss out on the spectacular wheelchair chases or action packed lunches at McD's.) I just watched FORBIDDEN PLANET in HD and now cannot wait for a Remake with a younger cast and a cool techno and Hip-Hop soundtrack. Plus you would have to make Robby a WHITE robot because having him being BLACK and a SERVANT in today's Hollywood just will not fly. You could get away with a black robot in the 50's but not today. The best thing about these new remakes is it saves me money not having to buy them on DVD later...ever. Look for the STAR WARS remakes after Lucas death.
-
That's what life is all about.
-
Aren't ALL of DePalma's films remakes to some degree? He's always littering his films with wanky "hommages" to make up for his own lack of imagination.
If it wasn't for Hitchcock, Antonioni, Dassin, Eisenstein, Hawks and numerous other filmmakers, DePalma wouldn't have a career. -
Would it be five hours long with extended scenes of remedial levels of literature study. I imagine Peter Jackson's Citizen Kane would just be six hours of him going "I am the Greatest Living director because millions of nerds have their heads up my arse"!
-
...an episode which I witnessed with my young son only yesterday, had Spongebob amd Patrick playing inside a box. The box originally contained a new BIG SCREEN t.v. but the pair was having a blast by simply using their imagination inside the box, playing. Anyway, it was quite amusing and maybe someone should send a copy of the episode to Hyde Park Entertainment and MGM. At one point, Spongebob makes a comment of how he can hardly believe that the pirates defeated the robots. And I thought...how cool would that be? How about sci-fi in the time of pirates or vikings? How about that Terminator franchise? -But that belongs to Warner Bros., right? The point is, I think there are MANY MORE great stories to tell. Like Spongebob demonstrated, you just have to use your I-M-A-G-I-N-A-T-I-O-N (cue rainbow effect with hands). Michaelangelo began with a huge rectangular block of marble before revealing the sculpture inside. Maybe they should consider movies in the same way, if that helps.
-
No way would I let Beyonce near this.
-
It would be really outstanding if the studio would quit remaking classics and try to remake a film that was truly awful and try to give it a higher production value, perhaps a rewrite to help fix a really lousy story or something. Let's remake DAMNATION ALLEY or STARSHIP INVASIONS. Quit remaking films that do not need to be remade.
-
acting out there favorite scenes from Scarface.
-
There is one to get you started...Mariah Carey and Jay-Z's "Heartbreaker" video with them acting out the hot tub scene from "Scarface". Sadly, all I can find of that video is the animated sequence that replaced it. :(
-
RoboCop, straight to DVD remake. They've been trying to get Fox Atomic to distribute and handle it in recent times, but it fell through.
So, prepare for it, a shitty DVD remake of a 20-year-old classic.
Why not just make an 80 mill remake for theatres and update the damn thing? We're getting near the end of the superhero era in theatres, after all. -
One of my favorite series. But I cant see anyone putting the $$$ behind such a deplorable character.
Plus you KNOW whoever did it would totally fuck up the Sunbane. -
