Mark Ruffalo can't stop doing it and has gone BLIND(ness) for Meirelles!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Looks like Mark Ruffalo is finally going to get the recognition he deserves. He's got a lot of movies coming up, including the Terry George flick RESERVATION ROAD, WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE and THE BROTHERS BLOOM.
Now he's going to star in Fernando Meirelles' next flick BLINDNESS.
I love Meirelles' work. CITY OF GOD is great and THE CONSTANT GARDENER punched my heart out of its chest. I love that movie so much.
His next flick is based on a novel by Jose Saramago about an unidentified town that suffers an outbreak of blindness. Ruffalo plays the town's doctor, who is not immune to the spreading blindness... however, his wife (Julianne Moore) seems to be.
Great pairing. Ruffalo's always great and when I met him on the set of BLOOM he also proved to be really personable, intelligent and just plain talented. The man knows what he's doing. Can't wait to see what Meirelles' flick will be like!

....congrats...hope it works out well.

Worst. Actor. Ever!
-
that hobbit was a kung fu fighting. in fact it was a little bit frightning...
and now my shins are bruised. -
The whole style of writing is to avoid names, descriptions, to show that it could be happening anywhere in the world. They'll probably turn it into some post-apocalyptic hero story.
-
but lets hope for the best. A filmmaker I genuinely look forward to seeing work from. Oh, and HURRAY I'm near the top of the talkback. This one is going to run into the thousands!!!!
-
Or better yet, millions!
-
Hopefully this time Meirelles will tone down his herky-jerky camera/editing style. Ruffalo is a great actor; his performance in You Can Count on Me is just plain brilliant.
-
Come on, you know you want one.
-
Ruffalo was also awesome in Zodiac. I would be worried about the source material getting bastardized if they brought in Paul WS Anderson or Brett Ratner to direct, but Meirelles should be able to handle the story tastefully.
-
No wonder Saramago won the Nobel prize.
-
and highly underrated.
-
IF this film is properly done, it could very well be one of the creepiest pieces to ever grace the screen. The book is incredible, go get it read it. Imagine everyone on the planet being blind, but a white blindness... total chaos.
-
its also shooting in TORONTO!
-
Completely unrecognizable from his character in Eternal Sunshine. I was impressed.
-
Absolutely true. I also didn't recognize him at first. Nice work in Collateral.
-
it was unquestionably one of the most impressive works of literature i've ever read. right up there with lord of the flies and animal farm for sheer brilliance of depicting the fear of mankind. i have high hopes for mierelles to do a beautiful job and i think we can rest assured that ruffalo and julianne moore can handle it as well.
-
a book hasn't made my heart race like this one did in a long, long time. i HIGHLY recommend reading it.
-
...but City Of God is hands down one of the few truly great films of the decade and to be honest, he'll be hard pressed to match that again..
-
I would like to thank you for finally giving us, your loyal talkbackers, genuine cool NEWS, for a change. We've had nothing but Eli Roth talkbacks for days and days. So once again, thank you.
-
City of God was brilliant though.
-
Constant Gardener was all right, but City of God was great.
-
...Methinks so. Good god, how did you even let yourself type that Quint, let alone post it. Your ambitions of somebody giving you the chance to be a real reporter someday just got a little further down the tunnel that is your pipe dream.
-
he's great, but i'm pretty sure thats not the end of that particular discussion.
