Capone Has Seen Tonight’s SHIELD 6th Season Finale!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!
After tonight, only one more season of “The Shield” remains! Beware those uninvisotexted spoilers!
Episode 6.10
Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here. This is it folks. One of the greatest seasons of the one of the best shows on the tube right now. And we can take great comfort in knowing that creator Shawn Ryan is bringing Vic and the team back for one more season in 2008 for a full 13 episodes. Tonight's extra-long episode 6.10 is the season finale, and it's called "Spanish Practices." Read on...
Vic shows up at Aceveda's door with the blow job photo in hand and a "request" for help at his appeals hearing. Aceveda simply claims that the photo is a fake, but that doesn't stop him from sending his lawyer after Vic at the Barn with loads of legal threats if the photo is released. Vic approaches Aceveda's top backer Cruz (the guy who gave him the photo) saying that the photo carries no weight without Vic knowing the story behind it and Vic holding all the copies of it.
Shane meets with Franka again at her father's death bed, where she pays him the money for the money train intel. Shane advises her against retaliation since the Armenians have been under the police radar for some time and killing cops would change that. But she says it's too late and that the wheels are already in motion with assassins on the way. Shane meets with her recently jailed (thanks to him) opposition to make a deal to put him back in power in exchange for finding out who Franka has sent to kill Vic. He makes certain Shane understands that the killers will not just kill Vic and Ronnie, but their families too. Shane attempts to track down the hitman, but Franka calls him back to the hospital to let him know that his visit to her enemy is a betrayal and now he must pay as well. Shane threatens to choke the remaining life out of her father if he's not allowed to leave, which she does.
Vic goes back to Aceveda not to blackmail him again but to form an alliance. He tells him who gave him the photo and promises to help him take down Cruz. The two arrange to have the suitcase filled with $230,000 in cash released to the one-armed Mexican official Romero so Vic can follow him and see where he takes it. Vic finds out that Cruz and his gang connections are working to buy up Farmington land and develop it for business that will be run by Mexican organized crime. Vic advises Aceveda to stay close to Cruz rather than put distance himself. Aceveda approaches Cruz for money to deal with the Vic situation, which he is happy to do in return for Aceveda's help in securing information crucial to redistricting Farmington to his advantage.
Shane shows up at Corrine's house to take Vic's family to safety, but she believes he's there to kill them. He pulls a gun on them to hurry up the process, which doesn't do much to put them at ease. He takes them to a secure location and locks them in the back of a moving van with no explanation, believing this is the safest place for them. Upon retuning to Vic's house, Shane fends off the first assassin, who is gut shot in a struggle. Shane makes a deal with the man to let him go for medical attention if he promises to forget the contract, or Shane will finish him.
Dutch finds out he was spotted watching Tina and Hyatt having sex. He's convinced that Billings set it up, but he can't prove it. Dutch and Danny have a nice moment discussing office crushes, and toward the end of the episode they share another sweet moment in the locker room.
After Aceveda and Vic figure out Cruz's redistricting scheme, he provides Vic with tips on how he thinks he can survive the review board.
Hyatt jumps the gun on a gang initiation tip, and Vic and Ronnie have to clean up his mess. This screw up on Hyatt's part (as well as his not revealing a sexual relationship with another officer) leads Claudette to believe he isn't right for the Strike Team leadership job (he's not enough like Vic, I guess) and cuts him loose.
Billings suddenly announces that his doctor has signed off on his being disabled from injuries sustained breaking up a fight between Vic and Kavanaugh, and he is now leaving the force and suing for millions of dollars in pain and suffering.
Vic and Claudette have a nice scene together, feeling each other out about future plans. Then Vic finds out there are shots fired at Corrine's house. Shane makes arrangements with the new Armenian leadership to keep Vic and Ronnie alive in exchange for his paying back the money train cash in trade, essentially becoming the snitch inside the department for the Armenians. Vic thinks that Shane took his family as part of a scare tactic in conjunction wit the Armenians.
Vic's family meets him outside the room where the review board is about to take place, but when Vic is called into the meeting, he walks out of the building. Vic follows the Mexican money man, pulls him over, and beat the crap out of him before popping the guy's truck.
Shane heads back to the hospital to warn her that killers are on the way to murder her and her family. But she refuses to move until she pulls the plug on her father, not wanting his fate to be in the killers' hands. Shane takes off leaving her there to fend for herself.
Aceveda shows up at Vic's location to look through boxes of files in the Mexican money man's trunk. The files are filled with incriminating and other scandalous material on nearly all major political figures in California, which Cruz has clearly been using to push his plans forward. This revelation and Vic driving away with the files sets up Season 7 for Vic and Aceveda to join forces and take down Cruz and the Mexican mob. Good luck with that, guys.
I realize some of you prefer the down-and-dirty, drug-dealing, baby-killing, child-molesting types of crimes on this show, but I really dig this examination of the top-to-bottom way that crime works and how something on the street level affects the way government works and vice versa. Not that there has been any shortage of the sex and gruesome violence we've grown to love about and expect from "The Shield."

Thank you Capone for giving it a forum on AICN.

Dammit!
As the 3rd season has finaly been released in the UK I can get back into this awesome show.. long way to go till season 6 though. -
because he's in Mexico, see? ah, never mind.
-
Season 5 in particular was just jaw droppingly excellent. I think season 5 may have given me high blood pressure. Forest Whittaker was better in this than in The Last King of Scotland, and the amount of dramatic tension built up between him and Vic was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Also, calling 13 episodes a full run is stretching things a bit. I don't concider anything less than 20 episodes a full season. I've always love HBO/Showtime/FX/Sci-Fi's stuff...but damn I wish they'd run a actual full season of something. I'm stunned BSG is getting a full 20...although they will probably break it into two parts, sigh.
-
Early in this season, it really felt like things were barreling out of control... Shane in with the Armenians, the fact that Vic was getting closer and closer to finding out who really killed Lem, it was nuts. After kind of a lull in the middle, the last two episodes have been ridiculous. I really can't wait for season 7. The possibilities of what could happen are huge.
-
The joys of a hypocritical regime.
-
Latinos are Klingons, Blacks are Vulcans/Romulans.
-
best show on the box - everything i think i know they show me in the next i don't - in a really non-epic and downright smart as fuck way. I love it.
-
On May 11th.
-
The best season of one of the greatest's tv series ever. Can't wait for season 7.
-
Jack Bauer is driving. "Get in, Vic. There's a lot we have to talk about."
-
I would legit piss myself if Jack Bauer pulled up, grabbed Vic Mackey and told him that the two of them were going to stop a terrorist threat! Fox, you control both shows - MAKE IT SO!
-
I didn't read any of that synopsis above, but I'll sure as hell be watching tonight.
Great fucking show! -
You DID overreact. And DevilCat has a good point, which is... Why is it okay to spoil some shows, but not others?
-
...Vic gets in some shit. Then he amazingly gets out of it. Like always. This show hedges on the audience liking Vic, and I do not. He's just as much a criminal as the ones he "tries" to bring down. Every deal he has ever done hasn't been to stop crime, but to get him or someone else close to him off the hook. Who *I* like is Claudette and Dutchboy. I want to see both of them succeed because they're not perfect, but, unlike Vic, they actually do things to make it better. If Vic doesn't go down, this show has been a complete waste of time.
-
but thanks for the recap, loved shield when I first saw it - that cop shooting cop stuff was brilliant at the time.
-
If The Shield needs to crossover with another show it's The Wire. I'd kill to see a VicNulty team-up.
-
Uh whats been spoiled? The show has already been shown in France, the entire season has been on the torrents for the better part of a month now, Herc SPECIFICALLY said "Beware of noninviso text spoilers." at the beginning of the article.
What the fuck are you guys bitching about? Or do you just like to look like complete morons?
This show is the best on TV hands down. Didn't read the spoilers and can't wait to see it tonight!
One more season! -
might be easier on your fingers, Capone.
-
Even with the write up there are enough holes in it that watching it will be still be good. One more season... ahhhhh!!! Sopranos are leaving us, BSG and SG1 (hey! stop booing, Ben Browder is funny) are leaving... When's the Wire coming back????
-
Where in my talkback did I complain? I visit this site for the sole purpose of reading spoilers. I just don't understand why Herc chooses to spoil some shows, and not others (i.e. LOST).
-
I seriously thought this season began barely 2-3 weeks ago. How is it over already? Did I miss something?
-
because vic mackey. kicks. ass.
-
Just a great episode. Cannot wait until next season, too sad that it is the last.
-
very disappointed
-
what a season. Man i swear, anybody who reads this and watches the first 5 seasons on DVD will not regret it. Seriously, shield fans force your DVD's upon your friends More people need to know about this show.
-
hahahah...michael bay liked the sucky fag movie on "On the Lot"... -
...watch the Wire. But the Shield is fucking awesome also.
-
This was such a great season, a lot of great twists and turns, and with every season, you get to see a slightly different side of Vic. I'm so bummed it's ending next season.
-
and rightly so. No matter, this show is too good to have spoiled, so I've been avoiding these postings all season. Which wasn't hard, since Shield TBs were few and far between before this season, and when they did show up again, they're spoiler synopses with no humor, playfulness, nor affection as given to the favored shows. They could disappear again and wouldn't be missed. As for the finale, I did think Billing's and Hyatt's departures were a bit abrupt, but I see things coming around full circle again in S7, with more Vic/Acevada love/hate, Dutch finally nabbing Danni, another plot to take over Farmington and Vic finally having to answer for his past. And finally, Goggins deserves some fucking recognition for his work.
-
Get me my final season, FX! I gotta know how this shit turns out and then I gotta spend money on your DVDs!
-
Damn straight he should get some respect for his performances in The Shield. His scene with Kenny Johnson in last season's finale and the Shane-Vic showdown this season were inspired. But the best? His revelation to Mara of all the shit he was involved in. And he conveyed that performance with a face full of zombie makeup. I'll say it: Emmy nomination.
-
Sad to see over. The finale was INSANE! You Brits have a real treat ahead of you - I can remember when I was going through all the episodes in order - I couldn't get enough of the stuff!
-
Don't leave the show!!! It was hilarious the way he left, though. On another point, I give the writers high marks for the way they handled Vic's threat to Aceveda with the lawyer meeting him at the station. I really felt for Vic, as it seemed a very real and very scary threat. Obviously, it didn't last and one of those clever plot twists kept the ball rollin' in Vic's favor. GREAT STUFF!
-
Someone 'splain something to me. So Shane goes to the Armenian guy he busted to double cross Franka, but she finds out he did so. So how was it that Shane was able to get back to the Armenian guy again? It's like "I know what you did." and he goes and does it again?
-
was abit much. I mean, this is the last shot to save his job, and he walks out? Regardless of what he's got brewing, it seems unlikely that the Board would think highly of his disregard for them.
-
After watching Shield & Wire, trying to sit through predictible, formulaic tripe like CSI, Law & Order, Cold Case, Without a Trace, etc. is just painful. The one exception this year was Kidnapped, the best network crime show since Homicide, and naturally, that got pulled after 5 episodes.
-
Wouldn't it be ironic if Wagenbach ended up raising Mackey's kid?
-
The Shield, The Wire, Deadwood, Rome & BSG, maybe the 5 best shows on TV this past year, have pretty much no chance of getting a best drama emmy nomination, While Grey's Anatomy and the shit-fest that was 24 this season are virtual locks.
-
i was very taken back it got to me then i started laughing that i was crying
-
I'm really not trying to be an asshole, but I don't get why everyone is drooling over this finale. I love the Shield and have stuck with it from the beginning. I thought this episode would have been a great episode BEFORE a season finale, but I was surprised at how little action and resolution there was. Yes, it is a great plot and there was great drama but...I dunno...I was just shocked at how little happened for a season finale. You don't have to yell at me...I'm genuinely curious at what I'm missing.
-
In my best James Franco impression.
-
the review board. It absolutely shocked the hell outa me and made Vic look more desperate and more ballsy with his, "I don't give a fuck about my superiors, 'cause they're gonna fuck me anyway" attitude. For me, it was actually one of the highlights of this episode and the season. What I had a *slight* problem with was the amount of dirt Cruz had on *everybody* in city government - all in one box. They should have toned that down a bit and maybe just had a couple of people implicated. But I suppose that could happen here - I KNOW it could happen in Mexico.
-
I agree with you completely. It was a good episode, but for a finale episode, that was weak. Not realy much of a cliffhanger at all, and it failed to bring to resolution a lot of things - if they're saving them for next season, ok, but it just failed to do anything to heighten the tension or anticipation of next season. Part of that, IMHO, is that the order of events was poor. Finding a trunk full of blackmail material in the final scene is not a good tension building cliffhanger. Vic and Ronni determining that Shane kidnapped Corin and Cassidy to send Vic and Ronni a message, and Vic declearing that they're gonna crush Shane, *that* would have been a much better way to end it.
-
Couldn't disagree with you more, Mach Three and Thunderpants. The whole episode was a fast-moving, balls-to-the-wall cliffhanger, to be resolved in the final season. Can't wait!
-
the walkout = great. and the amount of dirt all in one box, was a little 1970s. i mean this is the digital age, like nobody would keep all that crap on an encrypted memory stick when moving it?
-
First off I love the Shield and have never missed an episode. But I think it is clear that the show should have ended how they intended it to end with the forrest whitaker plot line...i guess FX is not above the rest of TV who squeezes the bottle till the last drop for a buck. First off, how bad of writing was the quick trasnformation of Hyatt's character? All the sudden he can't even talk to the hot chic and hes clueless about the streets. Second, whats with Vic and his family acting out of character? Do you really think Vic would just let them go without his watch after theyve been kidnapped, or that his wife wouldnt be shook up at all and would show up at the review board even if his job was what got her kidnapped? Third, the finale cliffhanger did not seem like a cliffhanger like somebody said above. I really hope trying to squeeze an extra season out doesn't reduce the overall success of the show. They should have did it like the best show on TV, The Wire, and closed out their show exactly to their plans.
-
Much as I'd hate to see him go, next season is the last - I think Vic's gonna break up the Mexican mob connection to the local govt and die doing so - he'll get a hero's funeral because that's good PR and will help Farmington and the Barn - so the man who started the series killing a snitch in cold blood redeems himself...
-
As far as I’m concerned, you’re on the talkback of the best show on TV – The Shield. I’m sorry, but I can’t speak about The Wire, because the episodes I saw weren’t that thrilling. I guess I couldn’t see the forest through the “fucks.” Anyway, to address your points:
1)Mackey was still rolling after the so-called Kavanaugh wrap-up which always leaves the door open for new adventures. Life is full of new adventures, so why can’t TV be?
2)Hyatt’s character was obviously embarrassed and shaken by what happened with the uni, given the fact that he knew Dutch saw it. His lack of “professionalism” and the increasing power of the Mackey factor clouded his judgment in other areas of his job. He was trying to distance himself from the uni, hence the silent treatment.
3)Like it or not, Vic is the only person that can protect Corinne, and she knows it. He is still the father of their children. At the same time, Vic has often neglected his family in blind rage and pursuing the means to provide for them. Ironic, isn’t it?
Sorry again about the lack of The Wire knowledge. I rented the Season 1 dvd and watched the first 4 episodes. That’s all I gave it. I was nonplussed. I did the same thing with Desperate Housewives. I was also nonplussed. Should I have given these series more of my time?
-
How Tina told Danny that Dutch indeed had a shot with her but never took it.
I was glad that most everyone believed Dutch when he said he was set up to be caught looking in her window while enjoying Hiatt's company. Dutch is kind of a schmuck, but has a helluva lot more morality than a whiny little bitch like Billings.
I also liked Dutch's little connection with Danny in the locker room at the end of the show, although I think it would have been more effective on an emotional level if it ended with the two holding each other instead of kissing.
-
I was truly amazed at how much plot-wise they were able to squeeze into this show. Exceptionally executed across-the-board. There are few TV shows that I will make time for, but this is one of the few. The final season can't get here soon enough!
-
I watched the first 3 or 4 episodes of the wire and also said WTF , whats so great about this? After watching the rest of the episodes I couldn't wait to watch season 2..which kicked 10 times more azzz then season 1. Trust me the wire owns bigtime.
-
Just want something cleared up for me. I totally understand why there would be a ban or restriction on sexual relationships between people of different ranks, but are you literally supposed to go call your Captain the second it happens? Claudette was acting like this had been going for months when it had just happened the night before, and on a whim no less. What gives?
I actually liked Hyatt, too bad they couldn't find a place for him next season along side Vic instead of as rivals.
Is Dutch anyone else's favorite character? I love that guy, was rooting for him to get that hottie. -
Love the Dutch/Danni thing, glad to see PrettyBoy Hyatt gone, bummed about Billings (the humor factor should NOT be dismissed! And yeah, he was on 'Due South', so of course he rules), surprised by Vic walking out on the review board, just a whole gamut of emotions. Even the Miracle Joe storyline made me want to cry. By far, the best fucking show on t.v.
-
than anything else. Wyms knew that Hyatt couldn't get the job done, but maybe didn't want to admit it to him, and let him out using the "relationship" excuse. But then the truth came out. It's interesting that Wyms, now as captain, has to admit to herself that in spite or because of his tactics, Vic gets the job done, which essentially saved her job.
-
so now we have to wait to see if shane and vic try to kill each other? what the crap!
-
What a conspiracy!
-
...wasn't there a "reckoning" promised between Shane & Vic? Am I the only one that saw that promo? Otherwise, awesome episode. It was nice to see Vic "Fletch" his way into the office building.
-
...I was a cop, but quit back in '99. There weren't rules like that at the time and I had a female officer living with me. But, times may have changed since then with all the PC-centric legalities/lawsuits, etc.
-
"It starts with the writing," Darabont said. "I've never seen a show that takes the kind of chances this one does. It's swinging for the fences all the time, and there's not been one iota of slacking in the tension and quality of the stories they're telling."
-
It was still a good crop of episodes, but not a whole lot happened. The whole season really seemed to be setting up the last season. Now Shane has made a deal with the devil (so to speak) to save Vic and Ronnie which I'm sure is going to come back to bite all of them in the ass. I was surprised by Hyatt's firing, it seemed more script related then character driven. But the Billings exit was pretty awesome. I still hold that the Antoine Mitchell/Glen Close season was the best The Shield has done. I really thought it would eventually end with Vic being taken down but now I'm thinking he'll just retire when the Barn closes (I'm guessing this is the culmination of the Billing lawsuit) and be miserable and alone. Kind of like Michael at the end of Godfather 3.
-
But the thing about Vic is this: The general public IS better off with him as a cop. Left to his own devices he might go completely the other way. At the end of the day he does make the world a better place. You don't want to know what he's doing, but in his own way he is making people safer.
Part of what made the Kavanaugh situation was so interesting is that Kavanaugh had to become Mackey to try to take Mackey down. Mackey is very comfortable with who he is and he's good at what he does. Before they knew about Shane killing Lem Shane asked if they ever thought about coming clean and more or less going legit. Without hesitation Vic said "no".
The thing that many people have mentioned, but I haven't seen anyone reference the rationale behind is Vic walking out before his hearing. Aceveda told Vic to use his kids and their autism to generate sympathy with one of the board memebers to make things go his way. He looks at his kids and leaves. He doesn't want to use them. I think that was a defining moment for the character. He won't use his family for his (and in turn their) own good, but rather will do things on his terms. He's not going to beg for what he feels he deserves. He will try to get it his way, and if he fails, he'll move on.
Sure Vic is a bad guy, but it's all shades of gray. Vic's "replacement" as leader of the strike team shows his value. You have to ask if the ends justify the means.
-
Great comment. Vic does play by his own rules, and certainly is not a 'good' guy by any stretch of the imagination, but he's not straight up 'bad' either. He does what he can for his family, without ever using them as an excuse. He is a man alone, doing whatever he can by any means necessary. Best show on t.v.
-
Yes, the biggest flaw of the Wire has to be its slow beginnings. It's a double edged sword....it takes the time to build up immense characters and situations which pays off greatly at the end, but in reality there is no real "movement" story wise til about the 7th episode of a 13 episode season. Looking back at my post I was a little harsh on the episode because I didn't mention any of the things I loved about the episode, just wanted to get off my chest the portions of writing I disliked. I still feel the Hyatt situation was a terrible character rush job, though I can see your Corrine points. I have a feeling the beginning of next season is going to be weak but the creators will find an excellent way to finish it off at the end.
