You lucky Chicago readers have another free screening: John Dahl's YOU KILL ME, with post movie Q&A!!

Published at:  Jun 04, 2007 9:16:19 PM CDT

Hey, everyone. Capone in Chicago here with a last-minute screening opportunity/contest for all of you Chicago-area readers.

The film is called YOU KILL ME, and it's a triumphant return to noir-ish form for director John Dahl, who has given us some great works in the last 20 years. KILL ME AGAIN, RED ROCK WEST, and THE LAST SEDUCTION were stellar new noir efforts from Dahl that really made me rethink film noir in modern terms. I also liked a couple of his follow-up efforts, like ROUNDERS and JOY RIDE. Hell, some people even enjoyed his 2005 release THE GREAT RAID (I was not one of those people).

I have 50 passes (good for two people each) to a screening this Wednesday (June 6) of YOU KILL ME, starring Ben Kingsley in his best role since SEXY BEAST, Dennis Farina, Philip Baker Hall, Bill Pullman, Luke Wilson (in one of the better parts I've seen him in lately), and Tea Leoni putting forth her best acting job since FLIRTING WITH DISASTER.

As a bonus, director John Dahl will do a post-screening Q&A that I'm guessing will be pretty cool. The man likes tales of the criminal underworld, con artists, and killers, and he's never shied away from a little violence now and then. YOU KILL ME has quite a bit.

The film doesn't open until June 22 in most major markets, so you're getting quite a jump on the release date. And this is one of those films you're going to be begging people to go see in the days leading up to its release.

TO WIN: Send me an e-mail at capone@aintitcoolmail.com with the name of your favorite film noir movie (new or old). The best 50 titles I receive each win the passes for two. Feel free to argue your case. In your entry, I also need you to give me your full name and the full name of your guest. Anyone under 18, don't enter this contest. Deadline for the contest is 11:59 pm Tuesday night. Good luck!

Super Bowl Championships since 1985!!!Count it!(Ed. Note - So-Crates is originally from Buffalo and has no right to speak about a lack of Super Bowl Championships.)

    Don't feel bad, So-Crates...

    by lazarus long

I'm more impressed by Buffalo's 4 conference championships (and Super Bowl losses) in a row than by Chicago's lonely trophy, and certainly more than their overachieving pretenders to the throne from last season.

    I'd watch Dennis Farina...

    by frank black

read me the ingredients on all of the food labels in my house. He is so damn good at what he does it hurts my brain to comprehend how acting can be that good.

John Dahl is awesome too (but it ain't real Noir! Out of the Past with Robert Mitchum & Kirk Douglas is noir. Modern noir doesn't exist because that is what the film snobs told me.

No joke man, it is refreshing to hear that sentiment displayed by someone who is (presumably) not from Buffalo. While everyone likes to concentrate on the lost Super Bowls, let's not pretend that winning 4 conference championships is some sort of walk in the park. Not even the vaunted Patriots have done that. But, to be clear, I would trade those 4 conference championhips for a single Super Bowl trophy quicker than I would trade Rob Johnson for Tom Brady.

I'm too lazy to go get it, but it does look pretty cool. Ben Kingsley has one of those awesome American accents like Brian Cox, where we really don't sound like that but you wish we did. I would actually fuck Tea Leoni, just for the record.

Dahl's output has suffered a bit in recent years...

    by sledge hammer

Joyride and Rounders were fun enough bits of fluff, The Great Raid was merely okay, and Unforgettable was very much forgettable. But back in the day when he first started out he made a hell of an impact with his first films, starting with Kill Me Again, and especially the one-two knockout punch of Red Rock West and The Last Seduction, these were just truly great films through and through. Here's hoping this latest marks a return to old form, and not just another largely forgettable notch on the belt like much of his more recent output. We'll see I guess.

Great Raid was a tribute to his daddy

    by jackrabbitslim

He clearly had no overriding passion to make a war flick - im guessing he just wanted to pay tribute to his father with a Pacific Theater movie

Chicago gets everything? Hardly- let's discuss

    by jugdish

To win tickets to this film that no one has heard of- we have to get into the heart of downtown by 5:30 or 6 PM. Unless you live with Mr. Drummond on Park Ave, its a pain in the ass... so we can stand around to see if we can get in to this free screeing..Did I mention that it cost $25 bucks to park down there!!? Also if you consider the 2 hours wasted standing around and waiting in the theater, then the film itself- its 4 hours wasted for a "free movie" - Fuck that...I would rather wait until it comes out in June- go to my local theater, pay the 5.50 for the matinee and enjoy the film on my terms. FYI - Capone did a great job on the Monster House Screening, something more in the lines of that would be great...All these free screenings he has been giving out as of late are tickets the studios could not give out. That my friends is a sham. Capone is doing the job of a studio rep by issuing tickets to a screening..notice how these are not AICN contests..these are independent of this site. Capone is working for the man!

take some public transportation and quit yer bitching. After the show, be sure to head over to Pequod's Pizza on Clybourn for the best pan pizza in the city.

There are millions upon millions of people who work in the Chicago (me included)...this is pretty much geared to them. Hence...Chicago readers. If you're in a suburb...doesn't really work. Heck, I live in Lincoln Park...it's 2 dollars to take a 10 minute L train to the loop. There are numerous ways to get there...

I for one am very excited to see the movie. I hope I get to go, but I'm not sure if my "noir'ish" film choice was quite "noir'ish" enough.

Maybe I am bitching- Chaseguy lives in Lincoln Park so he can jump in a cab...If you live in Edison Park like me..you are screwed! Oh yeah, I'll pass on the over rated Pequods and stick with the always perfect Giordano's

Ultron -- Just Because Maxim says its good pizza

    by jugdish

Doesn't mean its the best- Yeah we all read that article too in 1999. And the pequods pie is good- (if you enjoy burnt edges )but not great. Gino's, Lou's, Giordano's all are better and they all are chains now.

Um, actually I don't read Maxim...

    by ultron ver 2.0

...never have..I find that magazine geared towards the douchebaggery type (Gatti boys, etc). I was turned on to Pequod's years ago from a buddy who lived in Old Town. I believe "carmelized" is the term for the burnt edges. That being said, Lou's is a good pizza too, but Giordano's is a bland blob of cheese and generic sauce.....their sausage is weak too. How can you have a good pizza with weak sausage? Not possible.
