"Deep Space Nine" finale title clarity ((and lack there of))

Published at:  Mar 22, 1999 4:35:14 PM CST

Glen here...

..with a quick....something....about the title of the series finale of Star Trek: Deep Space
Nine
.

In a previous article
I stated the title of the Deep Space Nine series finale would be "Fin de Siècle" - which
translated roughly to mean "The End of an Era". This title has been reported by several web sites as
well as AICN.

Problem is, a couple of other web sites are reporting different titles for DS9's
closing episode. Each site attributes a source by name, each source is someone who should know
what they're talking about. Other titles include "The Eleventh Hour", and "What We Leave Behind".

As such, just forget about HREF="http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/display.cgi?id=3260">my previous post, as I no
longer have a clue if we've actually heard the final title for the series' concluding episode.
I'd delete that whole article if I could, but there's some rather imapssioned impassioned Talkbacks
going on over there, and I don't wanna deal with the hate mail right now...

    Not Fin de Siecle

    by jslyon

Just FYI... Bradley Thompson, one of the story editors of DS9, and Rick Sternbach (tech consultant) confirmed the title was NOT Fin de Siecle in a message last week (on, I believe, alt.tv.ds9). Thompson did a live chat last Thursday where he referenced that post, and reiterated it wasn't Fin de Siecle.... Also, "Umbra" and "Eclipse" aren't titles either, they've been scrapped and replaced with "Till Death Do Us Part" and "Strange Bedfellows". Some websites are still using the old ones, though, as the press releases from Paramount read "Umbra" and "Eclipse"; said Thompson, the titles were indicative of a direction they were heading in the stories which didn't quite pan out, so they renamed them, obviously not in enough time however for the press release guys. Just FYI.

    Or maybe "Kingdom Come"

    by holmanz

I've also heard that as a possible title, which to me rings most consistently with typical DS9 titles. I prefer 'Fin de Siecle' (which I could put the accent mark in), which, like the abandoned title sequence of 'Penumbra,' 'Umbra' and 'Eclipse,' has an air of mystery about it, but DS9 tends to be more prosaic about titling.

What You Leave Behind/Rom - Grand Nagus

    by chapaev

The "What You Leave Behind" title is cited by the site called "The Universe"(startrek-universe.simplenet.com).Apparently Star Trek Consultant Richard Arnold said that at some convention in Australia. He also mentioned Rom(!) becoming Grand Nagus in episode "The Dogs Of War".Ferenginar could be in biger trouble than Cardassia by the end of DS9.....

    I don't know...

    by garu

...but I heard it was going to be called: "Deep Space Nine: Klingons Around Uranus", then again maybe that guy in the chat room was making it up. Nah...

    Goodbye Ds9 farewell

    by mckracken

ok I promise NOT to say anything derogatory about the show here. About the finale title, well is this really REALLY something Trek fans wanna debate endlessly? I mean we'll find out eventually anyway.... i look forward to the first 4 episodes of another "Original" Trek series...after that.....?
