Wanna see HOSTEL: PART TWO? Wanna see it with Eli Roth and Capone? Live in or near Chicago? Click here for your free tickets!!!
UPDATED: Capone has given away all passes! Congrats to those that nabbed a pair... do ol' Quint a favor and give Capone a big kiss on the cheek when you see him at the screening!
Hey, everyone. Capone in Chicago here with a special Ain't It Cool News contest for those of you who live in the Windy City area. Wanna see HOSTEL, PART II early and then lob questions at director Eli Roth after the screening? Read on…
Since it's a holiday weekend, and I expect this contest to be over about as quickly as it begins, I'm going to keep this simple: The first 35 Chicago-area people to e-mail me at capone@aintitcoolmail.com with your name and guest's name will get a pass good for two to see HOSTEL: PART II on Thursday, May 31. Those are the only the details I'm giving out about the screening right now. For those of you contemplating entering the contest who might have to travel great distances, the screening will be held in a theater in the Chicago city limits (not in the 'burbs) sometime the evening of the 31st.
To make those of you who don't get a ticket even more jealous, I'll be moderating a Q&A after the screening with writer-director-gentleman-scholar Eli Roth. Those of you who were lucky enough to attend Eli's post-HOSTEL-screening Q&A about a year and a half ago know that the man pulls no punches and is 100 percent entertaining to listen to. And he'll talk about anything.
Sounds good so far, right? A few rules: just because you win doesn't mean you get in. You still have to show up early and wait in line with everybody else who got a pass. This is not an official AICN-sponsored event (only the contest is), so there will be no seats saved for our readers. Get to the theater early. If you think there's a chance you won't be able to make the screening, don't enter because you'll be taking away two tickets from someone else. Only the person who wins and their guest get in. No transferred tickets. I'm handing over a list of the winner to the publicist, and they're checking names at the door, so bring an ID. Obviously, if you're under 18, you're not getting in, unless you mom or dad is insane and brings you, and even then I'm not sure you're getting in. If you win, you'll get a confirmation e-mail from me or the publicist with details on where and what time the screening is being held. You'll also be given an RSVP phone number to call to doubly confirm that you're coming. The confirmation will reach you by the end of the day Monday, May 28. If you don't get said confirmation, that means you didn't win. Sorry. Don't try and figure out where the screening is and just show up, or I'll throw you out myself.
Let the frenzy begin. And those of you who win, come say Hi at the screening. I'll be sitting right there with everyone watching HOSTEL: PART II for the first time too. Good luck. This is going to be sick.

Eli Roth doesnt even deserve to be called a hack
by judge dredds dirty undies
He almost makes Paul Wank Stain Anderson look talented.
-
If I were in Chicago it looks like I'd be seeing this. Cheers to everyone who gets to see it early.
-
So hopefully, I get a chance to see this bad boy!
-
...Wish they were better.
-
And Hostel was exactly the kind of movie Hitchcock would make if he were not dead. Seriously.
-
and is one.
-
I think you had a typo. I think you meant to say that Hostel is exactly the kind of movie hitchcock would make now that he is dead. And i totally agree but feel hitchcook's corpse still probably would have made a better film
-
Nasty cold-eyed, humorless shit.
-
So you watch a shitty movie from a director known for shitty movies then listen to him talk about his shitty movies. Jesus Christ...what a horrible way to spend the holiday weekend. I'd rather jam bamboo splinters up my fingernails and light them on fire.
-
And no.
-
The kid who survived the last movie is being questioned by police, and considering what he just went through, he's pretty non-chalant about it all. The WHOLE fucking time you're going "oh, the police are in on this" so after like 5 minutes of conversation when they finally reveal that they're in on all this shit, the movie plays it off as the biggest shock ever. Then they kill him, the end. You're like "I already knew that. I knew that for five minutes. And you made me sit here JUST for that?" This'll be a shitty sequel to a shitty movie.
-
I just hope my e-mail to Capone wasn't too late.
-
You nailed it. My only question for Roth is this...Which female relative of yours made you dress in her clothes while she rammed her fingers in your ass? There has to be a reason why this dick head hates women so much that he prefers to see them mutilated on film every chance he gets. If I was at a theater in Chicago around that time (probably watching Pirates 3 again) and I ran into Roth in the rest room or something, I'd beat his ass so hard he'd have a new scene for his next shitty torture flick.
-
no.wanna see it with Eli Roth and Capone?only if Eli Roth isn't there and we watch The Blues Brothers instead.
-
hehehe. Awesome.
-
Get naked in this? Then, well, I am so...elsewhere. Never saw #1. Never saw the Saws either. Fuck this abhorrent shite.
-
thanksgiving trailer. other than that he is really shitty.
-
"Does not take the "film by" or "an Eli Roth film" credit because he believes that people should be able to distinguish your work from the film itself, not the opening titles or poster. He believes filmmaking is a collaborative process, and feels the credit disrespects the people who brought their own creativity to the project." - This is funny because of how many times his name appears on anything he does. The only thing that is even close to quality that he's pinched out was the Thanksgiving trailer. Is his butt buddy QT going to be at this showing? If so, are they going to suck each other off during the Q&A then do lines of blow?
-
To see if I can get in? No thanks- I'll wait a week and pay 5 bucks at the matinee to be disapointed.. Nice contest guys
-
I don't get all the Hostel hate, sure it wasn't a masterpiece, but it was a fun fucked up movie. If he really hated women, then the people who tortured them would be people you were made to like. But all characters torturing people are complete assholes and you can't wait for them to get what they deserve, stop being a bunch of pussies, it's horror, it's supposed to horrify you!
-
The Hostel films do not endorse torture anymore than fairy tales endorse grandmas being eaten by wolves, kids being fattened up by witches, or bears terrifying little girls.
-
If you paid attention to any of the news in the last twenty years you would know that the shit he's putting in his films is similar to the shit Saddam Hussein's sons and other fucked up weirdos were doing to women and children in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's not shocking or upseting to me,it's just dumb shit that only a potential serial killer would get a kick out of. A revenge flick is one thing. In most revenge flicks the second half is devoted to the person who was wronged getting even, not ten minutes at the very end like Hostel. Sorry but it seems like the majority of people on this site have drawn the line with this bullshit and these are people who like gore and violence in films. Just not in this manner
-
So I was hoping some of you Cabin Fever haters could post a quick (or long) review of Cabin Fever explaining why you disliked it. I've heard so many negative posts regarding it but never a true review with reasons why. Thanks.
-
I can't imagine the second one being much better. Eli Roth should stick to doucheing up Tarantino's flicks and stop making his own. How the hell did this no talent hack convince a guy like Takashi Miike to appear in his film? It boggles the mind.
-
Pathetic, mind-numbingly AWFUL "filmmaker" in dire need of a James Caan, Godfather I, trash can involved, monster beating. Burn in Hell, prick. Nuff said.
-
You're a bunch of pussies.Go back to your LOST & TRANSFORMERS talkbacks.
-
he would just stick to doing one original movie then moving on.I mean Hostel isnt exactly a Horror masterpiece/classic and the sequel to Cabin Fever is going on without him so why not just try to be original,i mean is there really more story to tell in the "Hostel Universe".
-
it's ok if seen as a b-movie, straight-to-video deal. The concept could have been kinda cool in a better directors hands but Eli Roth just went for the tired cliches and cardboard characters. Horror is the genre that's closest to my heart so I can enjoy something in even the crappiest horror film, but I'll always acknowledge that it's shit as an actual piece of cinema.
The first Saw I liked just coz it kept me guessing and at least there was something interesting and Seven-like (not that Saw is anywhere near as good as Seven) in the way people were killed. The characters in Hostel are about as well realized as kids you see on MTV reality shows. Then you go from lame-ass teen movie style scenes to straight out torture.
I can see why Tarantino likes his stuff, he's into trashy b-movies, grindhouse whatever...I listened to some of his DVD commentary where he gets excited like a little girl over every shitty scene. It's a shame though coz Tarantino is in just such a different league as a director. Eli has no idea how to create iconic characters you actually care about, a real sense of tension or the great set pieces which Tarantino has in all his films. The guy is just...mediocre -
i'd rather eat my own vomit with a slotted spoon than watch a sequel to the worst film released this decade...

...piece of shit, so why would I want to see yet another derivative, horribly written, poorly directed piece of shit by the untalented uberhack that is Eli Roth? I wouldn't, so moving on then...
-
If I hadn't been stuck at fucking work all day...
-
Straw men do not help your argument.
-
...more Pirates, Shrek and Spider-Man movies instead? I mean, say what you want about Hostel and Cabin Fever, but at least they were earnest attempts at doing something that isn't frequently seen at the box office. You might not particularly like the Eli Roth brand of Scotch, but you have to at least give him some props for creating movies that aren't the typical fare. These days, that's the finest thing you can say about an auteur -- he's not apeing those that went before him to such a degree that it's obvious hackery.
-
Sadistic torture and bloodletting is what you came for...anything else is just a freebie 8th-street blowjob. Popcorn's extra. Enjoy.
-
I saw the original Hostel at The Bridge in Philly with Eli Roth in attendance, as well as the super hot Barbara Nedeljakova (the evil brunette, hopefully I spelled that right). I'm pretty sure it had some connection with Penn. Anyway, here's hoping Roth doesn't abandon us small venues now that he's a much bigger name, especially considering we spread the awesomeness of Hostel like crazy. Come back to Penn to screen part II !!!!!!
-
I love the Pirates movies. I think that for huge mainstream blockbuster films (by Disney) they're pretty fuckin' good. Spidey 3 was disappointing but entertaining.
-
If you phucks are too stupid to get it , i will spell it out for you. Hostel is a satirical comment on Americas Guantanimo Bay nonsense. What you see in Hostel happens on a frequent basis in Gimo Bay and at secret "black"sites in Afica and Europe. The beaity is that hostel reverses this and applies it to Americans who have decided to remain ignorant to what is happening intheir name. I hope Hostel 2 is really nasty . It needs to be. The world seems to pay money to enjoy privileged Americans get the same treatment has the innocent people tortued in Morroco. Hostel 2 will make a lot of money globally but not in America. But that is the intention anyway.
-
...and 99% of Roth's audience are Princeton grad students who go to see it to stroke their goatees and then write witty thought pieces about irony for the Village Voice. Right. It has nothing to do with pandering to those jocks from Borat.
-

QED More made in the USA than in the rest of the world combined. -
And if you're stupid enough to believe that, go ahead and kill yourself. It would clense the gene pool of stupidity.
-
Methinks you give Roth a bit too much credit for political commentary than is due. I'm sure he'd be pleased you're reading something into it, because that gives it a secondary shelf life... but wasn't this movie written and possibly even shot BEFORE any of the Camp Redemption abuses came to light?
-
Roth is completely oblivious to the fact. I read a thing in Interview where Elvis Mitchell basically makes his whole case for him, and all Roth has to do is say 'yeah' to solidify the commentary angle. Instead, Roth starts babbling about women being evil whores, and the importance of gore 'money shots.'In a weird way, I sort of respect him for being a dumb frat boy even when given the opportunity to have highfalutin ideas behind his work handed to him on a silver platter. To thine own self be true...
-
...and if you truly think his poor excuses for film have deeper levels and hidden meaning then you're exactly the gullible moron audience he's aiming for. But hey, it takes all types I suppose.
-
This guy is taking one hell of a beating! I actually love his films! Cabin Fever & Hostel were great concepts and are two of the best horror flicks in recent memory. I think he's doing Part 2 because he didn't realise the impact the businessman in locker room would have on the audience, I know it was my fave bit. It wasn't a blood & guts bit - but it was fucking sick. I think the political overtones come in the form of some American citizens think their country rules the world, so when they go abroad it's a nasty shock to see how hated they really are, and when you don't have your army and diplomats to protect you - well your just a scared kid in a slaughterhouse! I don't believe he was making a point about Guantanamo. I also like the fact that he posts a shit load of blogs and is pretty much everywhere there is a camera promoting his movies. Unlike some directors he actually tells his fans things they wanna hear about the film making process and his experiences planning/filming/editing. This could all well be a selfish & shameless way to get promotion (I actually think it's genuine) but there are a lot of director folk who make a film and go on talk shows and talk about why they should see the film, then on the next show they say the exact same stuff, it's like a script, no passion at all. He could just as easy do that, but he doesn't. Conclusion. I like him! Some of you guys gotta wash away your hate!!
-
Thanks, AICN! Haven't been to one of your events since the Akira re-release premiere in NYC. However, I'm giving the tickets to an ex who lives in Chicago.
-
it can only be some weird kind of jealousy?? I am only assuming as you need to seriously listen to yourselves...you sound like he went around and fucked each and every one of your mothers. I can understand people not liking his films no film is for everyone but dear god the hate on here is laughable....
-
but I thought Hostel was a step in the wrong direction. A big step. That movie sucked in all kinds of ways. There's no way I'm dropping $10 to see its sequel in a theater.
-
Roth knows exactly what he's doing, and he's damn good at it. He isn't making movies for the masses, and he doesn't kill only women. He's has mainly men killed in both Cabin Fever and Hostel. A lot of you guys are fucking morons.
-
The majority of the violence happens offscreen.Everytime some moron uses that term in reference to HOSTEL it makes you wonder if they've actually SEEN the movie or if the movie actually WORKED on them in the same way people still claim THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE is more gruesome than it really is.
Seems like the 1/3 of the Roth bashers hate it because it's "Torture Porn"(see above),1/3 hate it because it's NOT AS VIOLENT as the ad campaign promised and the other 1/3 because they think Roth is a "Frat Boy Asshole",presumably based on the assumption that he's exactly like his cameo roles in CABIN FEVER and 2001 MANIACS.He actually seems pretty cool in every interview with him that I've ever read or seen.So his movies aren't exactly you're cup of tea, they certainly aren't as bad as some (jealous?)people try so desperately to make them out to be. -
That's maybe the most wrongheaded thing I've ever seen in digital print. Nice work.
-
Some horror fans hate 'Hostel' because they think it doesn't have enough gore. It's a slow build, in the greatest Miike fashion. It develops its characters then lays on the carnage at the end. Other 'Hostel' haters think it's unfocused and doesn't know whether to be a teen sex comedy or a horror flick. Other haters just saw the exploitive ad campaign and never looked beneath. Some people just thin the movie sucks. And some are truly are scared by the film, but for the wrong reasons. They look back to the slasher films of the 80's and late 70's, the Halloween's, Friday the 13's, the Elm Streets. Back in those days, it was easy to avoid death in a slasher film. Don't drink. Don't do drugs. Wait till your married, etc. None of that mattered in 'Hostel'. Those Russian mobsters didn't care if you tossed back Jack D. or perrier. They'd have their girls douse your drinks with roofies just the same. I think there were a lot of guys who saw 'Hostel', realized just how easy it would be for them to end up in the chair, and subconsciously thought, "I hate this! I only watch horror films to brag about how fearless I am. This film doesn't let me feel superior to its victims by having them act stupid. And now these fucking asshole filmmakers actually come along and show me how easy it'd for me to die. God, I'm so fucking desperate for a lay!" Old school slasher movies used to placate us by giving us rules. "Don't go upstairs" "Grabe the machete instead of the flashlight" "Keep driving and don't stop" These guidelines gave us a roadmap through any horror film that let us watch knowing how to navigate it. We loved watching teenagers be killed because we knew we were doing the same shit they did. The only difference was that we were getting away with it. Films like 'Hostel' change the rules. Suddenly, there's no roadmap. The teens are the exploiters. And they're not dying out of stupidity. They're dead because they're naive. And most of us living here in the states would rather strangle ourselves than admit just how naive we are about the real horrors of the world.
