...some clips have just warped onto the Internets. 'Just' warped? not exactly, these clips have been online for 2 weeks now.
-
5 minutes after my previous post, the word 'just' is removed from the Hercules' sentence. Power to the people!
-
the settings always looked like a mildly dressed studio, the interior spaceships where 1950's cheap and the acting worse than Star Trek.
The CGi ship fights kicked a$$ but thats IT.
Cant believe people stillw atch this crud -
Here's an additional video diary for VFX that was not put up on that site.

on a side note....if you see the title of the post mentions Babylon 5, but you don't like Babylon 5, why bother coming in and flaming about it? Thats a little pathetic....oh and "gay'er" isn't even a word moron.

not only do you have a limited vocabulary, but the only response you can muster is to repost my response. I am astounded by your brilliance.
-
I loves me some BABYLON 5, but the DVD release is less than two months away so you'd think there would be a trailer (or at least a teaser) by now.
Hopefully, this DVD will sell well enough to justify a second one that resolves CRUSADE. Daniel Dae Kim is apparently free from LOST until about November...

expect a trailer after post

you leave, Zathras dies. Either way, it is bad for Zathras.

I always thought one of the charms of watching a TV show was that (mostly) everyone had to watch it at a designated time, a communal kind of thing. And now, I will sing the praises of Ovaltine, as I am old-fashioned.
-
There is no worse writer of dialogue working today. Check out the last reading during the Bruce B. clip. There's a tub of cream cheese in my fridge that could write better dialogue than that.
He's a first-rate plotter, though. -
It's a fun show, and I'd like to see more Straight-to-DVD releases for it.
-
... but his dialogue is garbage and his jokes are the unfunniest things ever. I thank Christ very day that Paramount continues to keep this fat geezer way way way the fuck far way from Star Trek.
-
...compared to Legends of the Rangers. Crusade could have been really good, I think. Legends of the Rangers...could never be good.

You killed me with that! Bishop6 should run this site me thinks!

in at Amazon. I got mine. Every buck spent tells the suits that these types of projects are viable. That goes for haters and non-haters alike.

Glad they keep him away from Star Trek.... because Insurrection was such *fantastic* writing, huh? Paramount could do a LOT worse than bringing in some JMS storytelling to Trek. Like casting Matt Damon to play Kirk. Undiscovered Country was the last really good Trek film. Generations had its moments, but Insurrection destroyed my faith. Sometimes studios should learn to just let a dead property lie.
-
Like SW Ep1, 2, and 3? No, don't like all-green-screen-movies....don't like them, at all.
-
He wrote the original premise for Deep Space Nine. Paramount just doesn't give him any credit.
-
Is that a rhetorical question? I taped the pilot and the first four regular episodes. If I haven't watched that tape yet...
I'm kidding. I've heard this series was very excellent. I just never saw it. Claudia Christian is a very handsome woman, though. -
I was never a fan but had friends who were.
I'll stick with BSG. To each his own, I guess. -
but did they ever finish it book or comic form?
-
A race of aliens named after a brand of tea, crappy amiga cgi, bruce whatshisface from danielle steel straight 2 video crap for over 90 yr olds bishop 6 is spot on im altering my dictionary right now...
-
It really chaps my hide that we'll never see him again. BIG SIGH.
-
such a badass. TNT really screwed this franchise up.
-
Gotta' love B5.
-
But it ended at season 4. What other stories can they tell that won't feel redundant?
-
It's weird, I just finished reading a new book titled ATTACK OF THE SCI-FI TRIVIA which had a section of Babylon 5 questions.
-
Well I won't jump on on the pros the original series brought to television or the like, but one needs to respect the balls :) of JMS since when he found out TNT was to piss on Crusade, he shut it down. How many series could have done that? Could Andromedia-sorbo been saved if Wolfe stayed on? Legend of the Rangers was a travesty (but potential), if only fate had decided to piss on it. Aired against some huge NFL event and all the special effects from the original series lost to the WB black hole. I am glad for this series, they took the BSG guys for special effects. It also looks like they were able to get more ships into this one. Can't wait to watch (and hopefully WB will release cheaper slimdisks...)
-
I totally agree, SylarTheCylon. They could have done a lot more with season 5 but, for whatever reason, didn't. Crusade had potential but didn't manage to demonstrate it fully due to network interference. The "movies" were all poor except for ITB. I'll watch these new stories but if they don't tie in to the original series then they'll hold no interest for me.
-
And Hawk the Slayer's rubbish!!
-
"The Enigmatic, Charismatic, English Wizard character has been done to death, and done much better, I might add. He was tiresome." And didn't HIS OWN DAD show him up by doing it far better in his cameo on Crusade???
lol -
To me, it´s on par with LotR
That is because JMS reworked most of LoTR into B5. Not that I don't love B5, but let us be honest.
Bad dialog. Bad production (due to costs), and a super-duper cheesy English Ranger/Wizard thrown in.
But the plot .. the plot. Damn it was good.
When I lived in an area that didn't show B5, I enjoyed it much more via the Lurker summaries. I was actually disappointed when they started showing it in my area again. I enjoyed watching it, but my imagination did much better than the actual show did. I wonder how well B5 would have done as a series of 5 books instead of a show. -
mmm, the 1st line of my previous post was a quote from "Man of Stool"'s comment.
apparently you can do line breaks in the TalkBack but no italics. -
Sorry, don't agree. Most of the characters in the show were diplomats, flag officers, and heads of state. The kind of people who often bother to speak in complete sentences using correct grammar (current US president notwithstanding). The kind who shape their utterances guardedly and with subtlety because lives depend on them. If they tended to give their personal weapons names like "Mr. Pointy" and lard their conversations with the teenage angst, braggadocio, and slang some people evidently think constitutes good dialog, that would be a travesty.
-
Or, should I say, JMS?
-
Anyone who thinks this show was shit is an idiot! This show had the best storytelling of any sci-fi EVER. Star Trek can't come close to the way this story came together over the seasons.
Lets face it, other than TOS, every Star Trek series SUCKED! Sure there were some really good shows in the other 4 series but lets face it, most of them sucked. Data's day, and the singing Doctor? And lets not even talk about the way DS9 ended. B5 took a whole season just to wrap up the show and all the charactors. Sure season 5 wasn't the best, but the other 4 were phenominal. The best space battles I've ever seen. Just the way these ships flew in space was better than anything ST ever did, even in the big motion pictures. Crusade had more charactor in 13 eps than Enterprise did in 4 years!!! Thats a fucking fact!!!! This show will continue to kick ass. B5 and Stargate ROCK!!!! -

by i_snake_plissken
I gave it a shot, I really did. I think I made it to the 2nd episode of the 2nd season, just had to give up. Going through the first season was at times very tough slogging. I’m open to some good sci-fi, and have heard B5 fans rave about the series, but it just didn’t seem to work for me.
-
Ok, some of the speeches went on forever and the comedy was always bad. But the story and characters are what make a show. We've had so many shitty season finales this year. So many shows, setting up mythologies, only to abandon them when they get too difficult. Or relying on shocking turns of events, rather than satisfying storytelling. Yes, I'm looking at you Lost and BSG. B5 had a coherent, yet complex, story where characters grew and changed in an organic way. Characters on shows these days radically change from writer to writer and it's left to the audience to rationalize a reason why. "It's all part of the surprise, just wait till the final episode." You can't damn a show for embracing the production values of its time. "Adjusting for infaltion," B5 is simply the best sci-fi show of all time. We got a continually flow of mysteries AND answers, events AND resolutions. This DVD may not be good (who gives a fuck about Galen and Lockley?), but what the hell. I'll give it a whirl. Because even at its worst, B5 never lost my respect.
-
Wait...so Lost Tales is now Live Action??? Didn't they say last year that it would be animated??? Oh well...Im just glad it's back! WOOHOO!! More Babylon 5! *JUAD* :D
-
Ya gotta get through that hump, and it really starts to kick half way through season 2. The first season just laid a foundation. seasons 2,3, and 4 fukin rock like no other, trust me!!!!
-
I loved that show. When the shadow war was over, the show was done. There is no shame in cancelling a show once the story is done.
-
I doubt you know what stilted actually means, so here is a typical definition; "Stiffly or artificially formal; stiff." Now go back and read what I said. Add 2+2 and try to get 4.
-
Season 5 wasn't great. But Season 4 didn't end with the shadow war (it was closer to the beginning), there was still plenty of good civil war goodness. That storyline was almost as good as the shadow war itself.
-
ditto
-
at least you gave it a shot and didn't dismiss it out of hand. There's a lot to be said for that because season 1 is pretty hard going. Ironically, you gave up just as it was getting good. Seriously - season 2 was excellent, lots of plot development, some beautiful character moments (mostly between Londo and G'Kar) and some spectacular CGI battles. Season 1 really was the calm before the storm and the episodes shortly after where you gave up really crank it up a gear. Season 1 is actually pretty good in retrospect as it sows many of the seeds that come in to play in later seasons. I certainly had a greater appreciation of it by the end of season 3.
To anyone thinking of watching B5 from scratch / the first time, here's some advice: the acting is sometimes quite ropey, the production values are restricted by the budget and the dialogue can, at times, makes you wince... HOWEVER... the story is very compelling, the characters are fantastic and each develop significantly throughout the story - Londo, G'Kar and Delenn (Lost's "French chick" Mira Furlan) especially. Watch season 2 first, when it's over watch season 1, then go back to season 3. I know it sounds crazy that way but season 1 is the weakest season for first impressions (although I did quite like the cyberpunk visuals). By the time you reach the mid-to-end of season 2 you WILL be pleased you stuck with it. Just make sure you don't watch season 5 onwards - the show looked like it would be cancelled at the end of season 4 so all the main stories were wrapped up by then. I'm afraid the season 5 stories and beyond were no where near as compelling as what came before and, without the fantastic arc-story, the criticisms people have about the show are harder to defend. In fact, I would probably agree with them...
Babylon 5: Seasons 1 - 4. That's where it's at. Fkn amazing. -
I agree with you on all comments, Queefer Bukkake, except that there are several key episodes in S1 that matter.
* And the Sky Full of Stars - Background to the Earth/Minbari war and mystery surrounding Sinclair
* Signs and Portents - The introduction of the Shadows and Mr Morden
* Babylon Squared - (As you mention) Part 1 of the time travel episodes concluded in Season 3
* Chrysalis - Our first proper look at the Shadows - and damn are they nasty.
All of the standalone episodes also introduce key plot threads and characters (appreciated more, as I say, on a 2nd viewing)... but some are definitely better than others.
Anyway, as you say, the lack of participation in this TB indicates that few are excited about the return of B5. It's a shame, but the truth is there hasn't been a decent B5 outing in the past decade, which hasn't done the show any favours and it's unlikely to win new fans. Still, I'll always remember it very fondly and still dip into it from time to time.
-
I have to defend the guy. Because of the really low budget of the original B5 series, he HAD to write practically every episode. I think from Season 3 to the end, he wrote it all. So not every episode was perfect, but, guys, he was the ONLY writer. You have to give him props for cranking the scripts out. Okay, a lot of the dialog sounded canned, and he couldn't write comedy at all, and the whole Sheridan and Delenn romance was never believable and felt forced on by the creator himself because it was necessary for the overall arc (just like it was between Anakin and Padme). But B5 laid the groundwork for many sci-fi/genre series that followed after it (including Buffy, LOST and the new Battlestar Galactica). B5 and JMS deserve respect with regard to the history of genre TV shows with deeply detailed serialized story arcs.
-
not the talking dog and brainiac kid skiffy crap. but the real stuff that the genre is built around.
-
No.
Contest. -
I loved B5 S2-4. S5 had it's moments in the second half. All but 2 telemovies, most of crusade and all of that crappy Legend of the rangers movie were terrible. His next show Jeremiah had its moments, mostly in S2, but he's just not a very good writer of dialogue. And it's evident in his inability to converse comfortably on camera when interviewed. Anyway, he should have used Londo and Garibaldi as someone else said. Galen and Lochley are terrible characters portrayed by D-list actors.
-
i don't want to see it. thanks for asking though...

I recently Netflixed the first two discs of Seaon 1, just out of nostalgia - and I was horrified to discover how badly my memories had decieved me. Unlike Star Trek, B5 relied far to heavily on CG in its earlier seasons... and seeing it now, in 2007, the show can't even compete with Billy Neutron. Even the sets seem cheap. It's unwatchable. As much as I'd like to get excited about these new movies, that scratching that nostalgia itch has killed the franchise forever for me.
-
Looks like BestBuy is running a sale on Babylon 5 seasons 1-5 for $20 each. I've owned these for a few years and won't be buying a set, but this is a very hot deal.
-
He's been fucking that book up for way too long. First Peter is a teacher, then he is a reporter, then he gets new powers, the his webbing goes internal, blah blah blah. Now JMS has him all black-suited up and going grim and gritty ala Batman. "I'm the goddamn Spider Man." Yeesh. Hey JMS, PLEASE GO BACK TO YR SHITTY SCIFI SHOW AND STOP TEABAGING SPIDEY!!!!!
-
The sci in the seasons I agree were not up to par with todays standards, but no other show besides maybe BSG has made me want to keep watching it over and over. Besides a few shitty characters like Byron and Lockley, The whole crew was great and the stories followed a continous story line, unlike a bunch of shitty attempts by Star Trek with DS9 and Voyager. DS9 was losing ground so they were like, oh lets copy Babylon 5, They are near a jump gate.. lets make a worm hole. The got a new ship called the white star.. lets get the defiant. They had the shadow war.. lets have the dominion war. They have whole armadas of ships.. Lets have a few fights on BS9 with some ships. Anyone who says B5 stole most their content is full of shit. Star Trek stole the whole storyline for their POS DS9 and just to finish it off, Jane Way killed Star Trek if you ask me.
-
DS9 did seem to recycle B5 plots (6-8 months later), but I was never bitter at them for it. It improved DS9 IMO. Now Voyager ripped story lines too (species 8472? and the the planet killing weapon was very Vorlony), but it never helped there.
