Wahhhhh!! SWEEPS DAY 27!! The Last VERONICA MARS Ever!!

Published at:  May 22, 2007 3:28:17 AM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

For those who missed Thursday’s news, “Veronica Mars” is cancelled; tonight brings its last two episodes. There’s talk that Veronica herself might pop up in a new CW project about the FBI academy, but I sense not a lot of us are holding our breaths..

Tonight’s installments are titled “Weevils Wobble But They Don’t Fall Down” and “The Bitch Is Back.” The CW says:

Weevil (Francis Capra) is arrested for selling fake debit cards to Hearst students, but claims he is being framed because of his criminal background, and asks Veronica (Kristen Bell) to clear his name. On Piz's (Chris Lowell) radio show, Keith (Enrico Colantoni) debates Vinnie (guest star Ken Marino, "Reno 911") about the upcoming election, while a tipsy Dick (Ryan Hansen) apologizes to Mac (Tina Majorino) for the way he has treated her in the past. Veronica and Piz make up after their argument about spending their summer apart, and a mysterious sex tape of the two finds its way to the internet. Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs and Julie Gonzalo also star. Jason Bloom directed the episode written by Phil Klemmer.

Furious that Logan (Jason Dohring) attacked Piz (Chris Lowell), Veronica (Kristen Bell) tells Logan she wants nothing to do with him. Parker (Julie Gonzalo) confronts Logan about still having feelings for Veronica, while Piz assures Veronica that he had nothing to do with the sex video. Veronica, with Weevil's (Francis Capra) help, investigates how the tape originated and discovers a person from her past is linked to The Castle and pays them a visit. With the re-election campaign nearing, Keith (Enrico Colantoni) steps in to protect Veronica. Percy Daggs, Ryan Hansen and Tina Majorino also star. Michael Fields directed the episode written by Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero.

Does Thomas build in a cliffhanger? Will corrupt Fitzpatrick stooge Vinnie Van Lowe replace Keith? Will Logan Echolls open up a south-of-the-border Burrito shop with Duncan Kane? Does Veronica break up with Stosh, citing cookie-dough-like qualities? Will Mac/Max find life beyond Thunderdome?

These final five episodes have, as promised, been going forward without an overarching mystery, and I can’t say I miss that mystery very much. All the recent installments have been rich with continuity, what with Veronica’s new careers and the romantic travails of the college kids and the big race for sheriff. (And it’s been big fun seeing Keith taking charge of Balboa County - again and for the first time.)

Seasons one and two both ended with Veronica facing deadly menace, first in the form of murderous movie star Aaron Echolls, then via abused homosexual rapist Cassidy “Beaver” Casablancas. Who, if anyone, will she contend with tonight? (Is “The Bitch is Back’s” title a clue? Could it be an altered, gun-waving Lianne Mars or Trina Echolls or Kendall Casablancas?)

Bandwidth. Predictions. Reactions.

8 p.m. Tuesday. The CW.

The CW will officially be dead to me. Thank you Kristen, Enrico, Jason, Tina, Chris, Percy, Mike, Francis and Rob Thomas for three great years. It is our loss. Let the dancing shit which should have stayed on PBS beg-a-thons and American Brain-Dead Karaoke rot. One more reason reality TV should be the enemy of every last person who enjoys a good scripted show.

    by danielkurland

Thomas has stated this himself. You're going to see her in serious ass kicking mode after the tape stuff. I really just hope this show ends with a satisfying conclusion, especially since it wasn't written as a last episode.

    by catvutt

You know, I guess that was obvious, but did we really need to build the finale around said sex as a plotline? Really? Cuz, they're already hardly believable as a couple. And yes, this is apparently my farewell to the CW too, not as protest, but for the simplest reason of all. They ain't got jackshit else I'd watch. Good riddance, and thank God for not having to see promos for Pussycat Dolls 2: Hunt for da' next Cunt.

yes seasons one and two were better, but i still loved season three and i'm going to miss the show terribly. i'm sure i would have watched it, but i'm glad the fbi thing isn't going to happen. the show has changed enough since the beginning... i don't think i could handle another huge shift in the basic premise of the show.
can't wait for tonight to see the last episodes and then to click off the cw for good. it may not have an effect on the ratings, but i'll sleep better at night knowing i won't be supporting ostroff and the f'ing pussycat dolls.

Supernatural had the best season finale this year...

    by nrn

    So far I've Seen:

Jericho (Was cool but canceled too huge a cliff hanger for my taste)

24 (Worst. Season. Ever, I might be out of 24 after this. I mean sooo boring, no closure, well the story was really wrapped up 6 hours ago anyway)

Heroes (Major COPOUT. Loved the Hiro Ending however, but the ep on the whole was meh)

Smallville (Haha when hasn't Smallville sucked.. Oh I forgot its been years. Season finale for SV are always the same, every character is in 'peril')

Medium (Another very satisfying finale, big cliffhanger, but an awesome finale none the less. Its my second place right now.)

The O.C (Very good series ender, tear worthy material. But its not in the same league among my other shows.)

Prison Break (Season 2 lost most of the steam I had for Season 1, the ending was so-so. IMHO they need to get the show back to its roots, all this accidentally meeting up with another con BS is irking.)

Supernatural ***MY FAVE*** (The only show this season to have successfully wrapped up a TWO season story arc in a fashion that I am 100% happy with. Dean making the deal with the demon, Sam wasting the black dude that killed him. Sam & Dean and their Dad after the yellow eye battle. It wrapped everything up nicely and set the stage for Season 3 with a new premise to the show.)

So unless the Lost finale is AMAZING. Supernatural wins this season.

RIP Veronica Mars, you are a shell of your Season 1 & Season 2 Glory days. DUNCAN FTW.

    by topaz4206

they moved away from the big story arcs. Before they used to have time (within the span of one episode) to move the big arc forward, solve a small one-shot mystery, AND still have time for some soap operatics and comedy. These new episodes are fairly shit, and so far pretty much are copying Hollywood schlock (the "Crash" episode, the "Blood Diamond" episode). Ponderous.

I've been critical (and rightly so) of "Veronica" this season, but the show is just like that ol' "even when it's bad it's good" mantra about pizza and sex. I'm gonna miss it, lots. Best of luck to all involved, and thanks for three--weeeell, two and-a-half--of the best seasons on TV.

    by queequeg22

Sorry, this comment disturbed me. Unless I missed an episode somehow, Beaver is not gay.

He was raped by men. This does not make him gay.

All the victims that HE raped were women...and he was dating a woman.

Being rape by the opposite gender does NOT make one gay.

They said the same thing about Angel - that it would be back in some form just so the fans didnt send in angry letters fighting for renewal. Plus, Cassidy wasnt a "homosexual rapist" What show were you watching. He was abused by his little league coach which screwed him up made him a murderer and raped Veronica, who is female last time i checked.

And Althought he last few episodes were less than perfect ill miss this show.

I have about as much hope for whatever they're alluding to with another VM project as I do for the Angel tv movies they waved in front of our faces so people wouldn't hate on them too much. I'm happy we got three seasons, but come on- they're cancelling this and bringing back f@#$ing One Tree Hill and the Pussycat Dolls. Even if it doesn't bring ratings, VM is the only show (besides also-departing Gilmore Girls) that actually gets their network any critical or media attention. That's gotta be worth something....anything?...

    by napoleon park

I thought this was supposed to be sweeps month and a week ramping up to a major holiday. Last night Heroes 24, tomorrow night L#st. But tonight, no House, no Boston legal. I have a friend who likes NCIS and SVU, so he gets new shows. And that new reality thing about wannabe film makers meeting in a parking lot, and Jesse Stone: Sex Change.
Isn't there anything good on tonight?
What? Veronica who? I thought they canceled that years ago. Didn't that network go out of business or something? Oh, they did cancel it? Well, alrighty then. So, nothing good on tonight, I can't call my pal who's going to be watching SVU... Maybe I'll scan that pile of unlabeled black tapes next to the TV, I think I have a Numb3rs I forgot to watch or a Ghost Whisperer I nodded off during or something... So, how'd that deal with mailing CBS a ton of nuts turn out? Geez, some people's kids. When a show gets canceled, it's over. Live with it and move on.

From Goldderby's LA Times Primetime Emmys forum...

    by pennsy

    This, from poster '742':

The hardest thing about the show ending is that the last episode ended things on a low note. Not a cliffhanger, not a resolution, just low: Keith compromised himself to save Veronica and will probably be disgraced, once again, from the sheriff's department. Veronica got revenge against the guys who distributed her naughty video ... sort of. Logan beats up a kid who's mobbed up and probably doesn't care that he might suffer a fate worse than Big Pussy. Piz is the walking wounded. Things aren't looking up for our heroine, or her family, or her friends. It's a bummer.

What's worse, there's a whole lot of students at Hearst who Veronica will never have the chance to electrocute.

Found this over at the CW Lounge Forum...

    by wungolioth

I couldn't confirm this story, but...

HOLLYWOOD - In a shocking move that has fans and critics alike cheering, the News Corp television network MyNetworkTV has snatched Veronica Mars from the jaws of cancellation.

The network announced late Tuesday that it has sealed a one-year, $24 million deal with Veronica producer Warner Brothers, leaving the CW, the series' home since its transition to the CW network when UPN and the WB merged.
MyNetworkTV will fork over about $1.1 million per episode for the first season with the option for a second, the Hollywood Reporter said.
The deal also includes a provision that would allow MyNetworkTV to have first pick up on any new Rob Thomas television projects for the next two years.
"We are incredibly pleased to have Veronica Mars on MyNetworkTV," Roger Ailes, the network's president, said in a statement. "Not just because it is one of the best shows on the air and represents a new era in MyNetworkTV's life and direction, but more importantly because Rob Thomas is one of the finest writers and producers in television."
During the past season, the show has averaged 2.48 million viewers in its 9 p.m. Tuesday timeslot, but has a passionate fan base which has donated upwards of 300 DVDs of the series to public libraries across the country.
The 64th and final CW episode of Veronica Mars will air May 22.

Now, I couldn't find a source for this story, and I had just copied the post when it seems someone at the CW removed it from their forum. It would be very cool to find out this is true, but the one problem I have is looking up stories on Roger Ailes, quoted as the network president in this news story, I find he may actually be the Fox News president. Hopefully this isn't a sick joke.

    Farewell

    by photoginit

I got to admit I was a little disappointed in the ending. But I am guessing Thomas wrote it as a season finale. Thanks for 3 great season. Season 1 may be one of the best murder mysteries I have ever seen and one of the best seasons ever. I will miss the father-daughter back and forth between Veronica and Keith. They had one of the most fully realized parental relationships on tv. The whole cast was awesome. I hope Kristen Bell will find material that is as good as her abilities and here's hoping now people will look at Enrico Colantoni in a different light. Well, i have nothing to watch on Tues. nights now. Farewell Veronica.

I'm going to miss that fucking girl. This sucks, I've never had a show I'm so attached to snatched away from me before. Sure there have been unwanting cancellations of shows I've loved, but none like this sharp, witty, smart, funny mystery show. I'm going to miss you Veronica. I was even warming up to Piz. Dammit.

This would have been a great season finale. I hesitate to call such good episodes unsatisfying, and I'm happy that the series goes off with a bang (and probably the season's best episodes yet) but more resolutions would have been nice.

    Story comes full circle

    by ds9-4ever

See the ending works. Veronica gave up her "ideal" life as a popular high school student to support her father in the Lily Kane case. Now years later, Keith gives up his ideal life of sheriff to allow Veronica to have her life and go off to the Academy. It's sad but has symmetry. God, I'll miss this show.

    Loved the finale.

    by hercules

We got to see the Kanes (and CW) again. Logan put a thorough beatdown on A.J. Soprano. Keith had to choose between his career and his daughter and made the right decision. The world is shown again to be a thoroughly fucked up place. A great three seasons that entertained while telling the truth. What more do we need from a TV show?

    Beaver's victims

    by doggus47

Just because he raped girls doesn't mean he's straight. Dick called Mac a beard early in the season. I think it's supposed to be ambiguous, as one of the motivations he had for raping a drugged out veronica was trying to prove he's straight. Or maybe he was really straight but was worried he wasn't because he was molested.

    by retardedmonkey

I mean i don't mind a few unanswered questions. Leave the ending a little open, fine, but give me something. I know that this was probally written as a season finale, not a series finale but a couple tied up loose ends would have gone a long way.

Very sad to see it go and wish there was a little more closure but I great three great years and a pretty darn good finale. I too loved the Rob Thomas is a whore joke. If you Veronica could get a miniseries for resolution like good old Farscape.

    Goodbye Veronica

    by samedi

Very sad to see the last of this series, but you had to see the writing on the wall. The CW never REALLY committed to this season and after Pussycat Dolls did better in the ratings you just knew it wasn't going to come back. Nets are always going to be driven by ratings and if the great unwashed want to watch boobies and erection jokes then that is what the Nets are going to program. Sad, but that is why we embrace the good stuff when it struggles onto our screens (big and small).

Rob Thomas is a whore ...

    by kilpack

... who wrote a brilliant show that went out with more style than the CW deserved. The finale balanced mystery, drama and humor as deftly as ever.

The hacks who write the humorless, melodramatic, plot-drunk, ham-fest "Heroes" should:
1)be ashamed to be so popular
2)take notes ... take lots of notes

    regarding the story I posted...

    by wungolioth

Still no confirmation on that story I posted. I get the feeling it was a bad joke on hopeful fans. I don't believe the Hollywood at the beginning is meant to be Hollywood Reporter, just to denote the originating city of the story. The only update I have is I can correct myself and say that Roger Ailes is the Fox Networks head since 1996(thank you Wikipedia). I'm sure if I had a job in TV(or paid any attention to the inner workings at Fox) I'd have known that. Let's hope that something more comes out about this today.

Sure, there were still questions to be answered, but seeing Lily, the Kanes, and Clarence again sort of closed the circle. And the final shot of her walking away in the (fake looking) rain (but rain nonetheless)...has it ever rained in Neptune on the show?

    by photoboy

Sometimes finishing a story in an open-ended way is the best way to go. But this just ended mid-story and I'm not too pleased about it. The finale was excellent, but without the rest of the story it's also frustrating. Hopefully Rob Thomas will find a way to tell the rest of the story.

    by mrtwig48

The series began with Keith losing his sheriff job and Jake Kane covering up for his kid. It ended with Keith losing his sheriff job and now Keith covering up for his kid (while Jake Kane was involved). Now all we needed was some Veronica/Parker/Meg Manning three way scissors.

    Supernatural are you serious...

    by lane_myers111

ok yes the 24 season finale was as weak as the previous 20 episodes and the heroes writing team dropped the ball in a way i wouldnt have imagined
possible but supernatural was dreadful for so many reasons

    1. The main purpose of the yellow eyed demons plan was to get a non demon to cross the rail track and put the gun in the lock. Why did he not get someone to do it by threaten to kill there family unless they did it at any time in the last 20 years. Ok he wanted a general of some kind but those kids and there powers sucked
and couldnt even defeat one demon how are they gonna command the respect and lead an army of demons.

    2. How dramatic a twist is it to kill off a main character if another character can make a deal and bring him back from the dead giving the writers a year to get dean of the hook. They did it already in exactly the same time over the last episode of the 1st season and the first of the second.

    3. Yellow eyed demon used telekinesis to rob dean of the gun once but not the second time.

    4. Too elderly humans were able to close the gates of hell by pushing it shut physically

    5. None of them noticed the blonde lesbian heart stopper just leave them and walk off

6.you set up a battle to the death of 5 kids with special powers who cant even use them on each other.

    7. none of the demons escaping hell did anything or were barely seen.

theres so many more reasons it was poor writing...loved the first series but the second has been awful

The Bitch is Back: 1.9 overnight rating, 3 share

    by pennsy

The 8PM episode did even worse; 1.5/2. While the POS dancing toxicity and the Death Star got identical 16+ ratings and 25 share each. Now fuck off, you dancing fools, and go back to PBS beg-a-thons with Juliet Prowse doing color commentary, where you truly belong.

    by arrangedletters

Anyone who thinks those were good need to pull their head out of their ass. Wow Weevil framed for a crime he didn't commit...what an original episode premise. A remake of the skulls but without the talent of Joshua Jackson. Those were the most god awful stories since the Dean's arc. I'm glad it's going away.

Finally got around to watching them...

    by danielkurland

And although the plots themselves weren't that original, the writing, dialogue, and character interactions were perfect. it's a true shame to see things unresolved, but that's the world we live in unfortunately. The sheer premise (if they hadn't gone the FBI route) of beginning on Marino as a series regular, and having a town run by Vinnie Van Lowe as sheriff would have been fantastic. A week ago I would have said that Thomas would at least tell the fans what he was planning to happen with these characters, as he seems to genuinely care about us. But after hearing his response to Ostroff's bullshitting, he seems to have becomed pretty disillusioned and bitter with the property, which is terrible. I wish we just got a full season of Logan and Veronica as a couple, acting the way they were in the last few episodes of season one. The chemistry there is just so fucking good. Hopefully Lost's finale tonight delivers, because i thought Heroes was mediocre, and 24's was underwhelming (besides the ending where Jack yelled at Audrey's dad).

    tease from Rob Thomas

    by filmfanatic1

This is Ausillo's interview with VM.s Rob Thomas, wishing what he would do about a finale:
    http://community.tvguide.com/blog/TVGuide-Editors-Blog/Ausiello-Report/700000049

Exclusive: Veronica Mars Creator Mulls Feature Film!
    070523veronica.jpg
Veronica Mars by Michael Ansell/The CW
If there's one thing we can all agree on about last night's Veronica Mars "season" finale, it's this: There's no way in hell that was the end of the story.

So, naturally, the first thing I did this AM was e-mail Mars creator Rob Thomas and ask: "Will will ever find out how you would've ended the show?"

    His piddle-worthy response?

"I'm not entirely sure how/when VM would've ended, but I wouldn't discount my taking a stab at a feature script."

Yeah, you read that right. Veronica Mars on the frakkin' big screen!

Rob then added, "But I'm not sure if I could sell a movie based on a little-watched TV series."

Um, I've got one word for you, and it begins with "F" and ends with "Y." I'm talking about Firefly! If a show with barely one season under its belt can get the multiplex treatment — and turn a (small) profit — one can only imagine what VM would be capable of!

If that were a season finale, instead of series finale

    by _maltheus_

...it still wouldn't be good. It felt like a decent midseason (or earlier) ep that need a part two, but not big enough to be a summer cliffhanger. This has been a horrible year for finales, only Dexter and Rome had decent ones. Still, I'll miss Veronica and I look forward to rewatching season 1, one of the best seasons of any show on TV.
