UPDATE FOR INTERNATIONAL READERS!! Save JERICHO!! Get Ready CBS - The Nut Truck Is Coming!!

Published at:  May 23, 2007 4:25:12 PM CDT

UPDATED 7:43 AM CST USA 05.22.07

Merrick again...

Giles sent in the message regarding the JERICHO "Nuts" campaign.

Seems overseas viewers attempting to contribute to the campaign have hit a snafu when filling out order forms on the NutsOnline site (the forms apparently don't accommodate overseas address formating).

Here's what Giles had to say:

Hi Merrick,

Been talking to Jeffrey at NutsOnline, after I complained that the billing form section only catered for US addresses. (I'm from the UK)

He said it'll still work if you put in the correct 1st line of your street address, then use THEIR zip, city and state details. Which are :

Zip - 07036
City - Linden
State - NJ

Might have more of an impact if JERICHO's foreign fans (like myself) can get involved in the stunt. Any chance you can update your page with this info?

Cheers, mate.

We've received a surprising amount of e-mail about the campaign from overseas viewers, so I thought this might help.

More info as more comes in. ORIGINAL ARTICLE FOLLOWS.

Merrick here...

...with a follow-up regarding the "Save JERICHO" campaign.

As regular Coaxial readers may recall, the series was unceremoniously canceled last week. To get up to speed on my personal feelings about this series, and to learn more about efforts to save the show, CLICK HERE to access our recent report.

Viewers of JERICHO will remember a season finale reference to "nuts" - hearkening back to a true World War II story about the one word reply Americans sent to a German demand for surrender. Well, it seems JERICHO fans have taken the reply quite literally.

Tomorrow morning, CBS will be getting a communication from JERICHO viewers.

JERICHO fans amassed 1,815 pounds of nuts in three hours. Evidently, the orders continue to roll in (as of this printing, the nut pile is up to 2,140 lbs). The first torrent of nuts should arrive at CBS tomorrow morning. My God...I wanna picture of that. If any JERICHO fans out there can chase down the nut truck (yes, I know how that sounds) and take pictures of the delivery...please send me some photos!

If you'd like to contribute to the campaign, you can do so via NutsOnline. A $5 or $10 contribution will propel nuts towards CBS - including a personalized note from each purchaser.

GO NUTS!!!

NutsOnline is the cyber manifestation of a 78-year old family business from Newark, New Jersey. They're not making a great deal of money by aiding in the campaign to save the series. Although, I'm guessing their visibility has increased a bit of late.

CBS has issued an message indicating that the network "hopes to develop a way to provide closure to the compelling drama that was the Jericho story." This is pretty vague...so FANS SHOULD NOT CEASE THEIR EFFORTS AT THIS TIME.

While I find the "Nuts Campaign" tremendously amusing, I should re-emphasize what I've said previously: the very best thing you can do for the show is sending physical letters (you know...addressed by hand...lick the stamp...all that quaint stuff) to CBS.

    by shiftyeyeddog2

Jesus Christ you people are pathetic. The show is dead. you should be THANKING GOD that you are apparently going to get some kind of "closure" in a wrap-up episode or movie. Most shows dont get that. Hell, if I were CBS, after this kind of annoying dumbass "nuts" campaign, I'd cancel the plans for that as well!

Why even post about it? This Obviously this isn't for you. I've never understood why people just bitch about stuff. It might not have been that good a show but we like it. Hell I read every post nuke book I can find most suck....but every once in awhile one is good. I like the subject. This show isn't GREAT...but its the best post nuke show on the air. That is good enough for me and my $10 bucks. And I seem to remember- Star Trek, Firefly and fucking CAGNEY AND LACEY coming back after similar stupid acts as ours.

    by napoleon park

to contribute all this fat and protien to. Because with world hunger and homelessness, protesting the cancellation of a show about a city with limited food reserves by contributing a ton of food to a major national television network is... sigh...
Original Star Trek was either "on the bubble" or on the verge of cancelation when a letter wriging campaign gave it a(n ill-fated) third season. Family guy came back and four 90 minute DVD Futurama features (which can be aired as a dozen TV series episodes) are in the works.

This week... I'm glad its happening. And this is a way more clever way to spend money to save a show than buying the DVD. Maybe we can send fish to NBC to get Surface back.

Well there's the grandaddy of all letter writing campaigns TOS Star Trek, Cagney and Lacey (also on CBS), Roswell from WB to UPN (a division of Viacom, parent of CBS). That's off the top of my head. Personally, I'm all for the nut thing. So what if it pisses CBS off? What are they gonna do, cancel the show again?

...in an attempt to show goodwill and dedication to their cause, many Angel fans gave blood as a "positive" protest to Angel's cancellation. Not given to the WB, but to the Red Cross or somewhere. Although I think the show's fate may have been different, had they tried your tactic. ;-)

The homeless in NYC will be eating nuts for MONTHS!

    by bill clay

I don't understand how CBS can ignore this groundswell of support. Even if the numbers weren't statistically there, all this 'sound and fury' should clue them in that Jericho has a passionate fan base. Hell, I doubt that most Top 20 shows have the kind of rabid fans that Jericho has. CBS is NUTS to throw away this proven fan base on an untested reality show that will probably be canceled in a month. The only reason I can see for CBS not to reverse their decision, and at least bring Jericho back as a mid-season replacement when Kid Nation gets canceled, is stubborn pride. CBS' executives are too stubborn to admit that they made a mistake. Maybe they're afraid their jobs will be in jeopardy if the bosses at CBS realize how bad they screwed up?

This is a show that needs saving. Did you people that put down the show really watch more the 20 minutes of the. There was some pretty sucky episodes yes indeed, like the barn is on fire type of episodes and that is what is what got the show in trouble. It needs saving.

    What they don't realise...

    by gilest

...is that while they'll get higher viewing figures, and therefore advertising revenue, for the first few episodes of a new show, rather than those of a returning show, eventually people are going to stop bothering watching the new shows altogether 'cause the probability of it being worth their time investment (ie, getting to see a whole story play out) is small. Short termism is ruining narrative TV.

    Good luck guys

    by coenbro

Ones small problem. CBS doesn't need some middling (actually less-than-middling) cultish show. All of there shows are huge. They have some of the highest rated dramas and the highest rated comedy. Sure, I hate it all and can't remember the last time I watched CBS, but the fact is, they have no need for Jericho. It wasn't popular, it doesn't create any sort of buzz, and it costs a lot. I bet you Kid Nation will do better in the ratings. And the enitre run of Kid Nation probably costs 10 times less than a season of Jericho. It's the nature of TV these days and it's why you are seeing more reality and game shows. They cost nothing. I work in TV. Dramas cost a fortune, tons of people get risiduals (and God do I love them), and every one is union (which I love as well). It won't help CBS one whit to carry this show.
