Shaun, The Dude, Scully and MJ tell you HOW TO LOSE FRIENDS AND ALIENATE PEOPLE!!!

Published at:  May 18, 2007 3:15:26 PM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. How about this cast, huh? Jeff Bridges, Kirsten Dunst, Gillian Anderson and Simon Pegg in a comedy together? The flick, HOW TO LOSE FRIENDS AND ALIENATE PEOPLE, is based on a memoir by Toby Young and is set to be directed by Robert B. Weide.

Bridges will play Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter. I love the cast, even Dunst, whom I've generally liked in comedies, like ETERNAL SUNSHINE and DICK.

I'm completely unfamiliar with the novel, but that cast has my butt in the seat.

    Toby Young

    by mr_x

rings a bell, never read his book, but he is a journalist, and if i recall correctly had a spat with another columnist julie burchill who looked quite fit a long time ago and then went to dworkin sized proportions and became a lesbo. I think thats actually based on the book. I'm cleverer then i thought.

WTF? What happened to the Clone Wars TB??

    by smellmycheese

Seriously, what's going on with this site at the moment?? TBs just seem to be vanishing at a whim with no explanation. Keep it up and you won't have any readers left!

The book is really funny and painful...

    by gayasxmas

Imagine if David Brent went to work for Vanity Fair... its basically Young describing in excruciating detail how he completely messed up in the New York social scene. Bridges and Pegg will be hilarious

    by shermdawg

Well first of all, Herc probably got a call from Lucasfilm wanting him to pull the photo. And because the talkback had degenerated into a gaybashing thread (Didn't you guys get that out of yor system wih Superman Returns???) there was no reason to leave it up with the old "image pulled by request" heading. And because of the way things were going, I wouldn't doubt it was the main reason it was yanked. Some of you guys have went apeshit in the past week or so, and pretty soon it's gonna start hurting the way things go down at this site.

    Reda the book

    by boba fat

It's funny. Brit moves to New York and tries hard to be cool in his new magazine job but fails miserably to fit in and is saved from drink and drugs hell by the love of a good woman. It's supposed to be a true story but Toby Young is also shameless self promoter. Pegg is perfect though.

Fair enough... but for the record...

    by smellmycheese

there wasn't any derogatory homosexual comments in my single TB contribution, nor has or will there ever be. Just wanted to clear that and the whole "you guys" thing up. As for going apeshit, again, that was unfortunately caused by an immature few who seemed intent on ruining things for the majority. L fans were not the perpetrators and the numerous requests for an L TB, which we were obviously not going to get, was merely an attempt to provoke a response and voice our dissatisfaction at how we'd all been tarred with the same brush.Anyway, that's over with now and I only mention it because it has been brought up.

    Read the book awhile back.

Nauesatingly funny, like The Office or Extras. I guess whathisface is too old and dumpy and not famous enough in America to play the part. Definately a better starting point than the devil wears prada.

    by smellmycheese

but that's certainly an eclectic cast. Love Pegg, less keen on Dunst, but interested to see how this turns out.

    Eternal Sunshine....

    by colonel activity

was more of an existential meditation on the saying, "Ignorance is bliss"; not so much a comedy. Comedic elements? Sure. But how many comedies quote Alexander Pope in their title and tackle the concept of memory in an almost Proust-like manner? Not many. So, in summation, I wouldn't call it a comedy.

    The book is goodish fun

    by sepulchrave

But it's horribly written in a sort of crappy lad's-mag jargon. And Toby Young was and is such a twat that the idea of actually seeing him do these things on screen seems painful to me. Just endless interviews where he makes off-colour comments to stony faces and him waving at people from behind the velvet rope, trying to get into Hollywood parties. And isn't thins another film about the supposedly riveting world of high-class publishing (The Devil Wears Prada) that is in fact dead boring. totally self-obsessed and pretentious?

The guy who wrote this book toby young was

    by emeraldboy

carved up by paul morley on late review. Young wrote a farce about the royal which was utterly panned by everyone who saw it. the point is that all Toby young writes about is failure. He revels in failure. his own failure.
