He joins Heath Ledger as The Joker, Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes, Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent and Eric Roberts as Salvatore “The Boss” Maroni among the franchise’s newcomers. • May 17, 2007, 7:45 p.m. CST

Recasting Katie Holmes' role is such a stupid idea

    by Magical Jew Eyes

They never bothered to establish her as major character in the first movie, so why bother recasting her in the second? Just write Gyllenhaal's role as a totally different character. I hate when they re-cast and expect the audience to just forget that the character looks totally different than in the previous film.

  • May 17, 2007, 7:47 p.m. CST

    Be nice

    by David Lazarus Long

Spidey 3 really only had 2 and a half. Actually, when you really split it up throughout the whole movie, there's only about 1.7 villians per hour.
Maybe 1.8

  • May 17, 2007, 7:47 p.m. CST

    Oh, and

  • May 17, 2007, 7:50 p.m. CST

    These are supporting characters

    by jimmy_009

They're not villains. I only see one villain, The Joker, and therefore am not too concerned about too many characters. Someone has to play the bit parts, I'm just glad they're getting good actors to do it.

  • May 17, 2007, 7:52 p.m. CST

Maggie Gyllenhaal is a sexy mutt.

    by Christopher3

Come on, she's comparable to Droopy Dawg Holmes. Though if I had my druthers, I'd recast one of the Deschanels in the role. Also, "Batmanuel" is funnier than "Die Fledermaus." But "Captain Liberty" is not funnier than "American Maid."

  • May 17, 2007, 7:55 p.m. CST

    Shit in her face?!

    by David Lazarus Long

Why, what a horrendous... err... you haven't been reading my diary, have you?
...
But really, I'm not sure what's wrong with her. I think she's cute as all hell, and has the body of... um.. a human being. As opposed to a broomstick. (*COUGH*HOLMES*COUGH*) But, I mean... I guess if you don't like to get wild, a broomstick will do... ;D

  • May 17, 2007, 7:57 p.m. CST

Maggie Gyllenhaal is still a mutt

    by Quintus_Arrius

Even she knows it judging from her expression in this picture. http://tinyurl.com/yocxwn . I just don't want to fuck a girl who looks like that... She looks tired.. and is that the beginnings of a mustache I see?

  • May 17, 2007, 7:58 p.m. CST

    Re-Casting IS a good idea...

Because Katie Holmes was the WORST part of Begins. She was TERRIBLE! I just wish they went with someone better looking than Gyllenhaal. Man, she's fugly. Bring on Diora Baird!!!

if you actually pay attention to BB

    by oisin5199

Rachel Dawes is NOT Vicki Vale. She's not a skirt that Batman's chasing around. She's his moral conscience, a grounding voice from the past. She's also a childhood fantasy ideal that he can never have. The character was interesting, however Katie Holmes was flat. So give it to a good actress, like Maggie. I think she's attractive, but then again my criteria for casting an actress has nothing to do with whether or not I'd fuck her. Sheesh.

Firstly jowls are SEXY, so is a nice sensitive snout. secondly it seems like a waste of time to cast a known actor in this role, I'm sure his lines will amount to some thing like: "Gordoooon!,Bring me this "batman" vigilante fellow or its your neck!" and scene.

Of course you know that everything will be back to normal next season as the series draws to a close but come on. Bizarro?
Sure this has almost no business being discusses in this talkback, but I'm home with the flu and it was on and this is a DC/WB oriented talkback... so what the hell.
Fits here as well as anywhere else.

Paul Newman taught her baby bro Jake to drive for God's sake! Jake's a good actor but without the family connections, he would be lucky to get a CW series and she'd be working for OfficeTemps. I can't believe she replaced Holmes- Scientology hostage or not, she's freaking hot...Maggie is not ugly she's just plain. They should have dumped Rachel Dawes altogether when Mrs. Mapother said no, recasting with an actress who doesn't rate the same looks factor is stupid.

    by Dr Dischord

is totally attractive. Just because she doesn't look like one of the twiggy cheerleaders who wouldn't fuck me in high school doesn't mean she's not hot. Also, is she really playing Dawes, or is that just assumed? I don't remember there being a report of her for that role, just that she'd been added to the cast. I think it'd be interesting/career suicide if Nolan develops the Dawes character into a totally new, non-comic hero or villain. That would be ballsy.

I'm personally crossing my fingers he's not reading for Ebony White...and "Die Fledermaus" is an opera wriiten by Julius Roderich Benedix with music written by Johann Strauss II. It premired in the late 19th century, me thinks.

one role like that is a bad idea. It somehow breaks that fragile suspension of disbelief and throws you out of the movie's reality. Whatever reasons there might be for not having the same actress reprise the part, it would be better to leave the character out entirely than recast.

Now you can join the club of moviegoing dads who will feel obligated to take their tots to onscreen drivel like "Shrek 3." It helps to be a movie geek, so you can stomach the bad stuff more easily. And occasionally you'll come across good kiddie fare, like the Pixar stuff.

    The Rachel Dawes Character...

    by Aznbuddy

...reminded me of Bridget Fonda's character in Kiss of the Dragon. The director basically had her berate Jet Li onscreen for half an hour to fill up the talking time, cause he couldn't very well do a monologue of his own in english.

Rachel Dawes does the same thing to Bruce. But last time I checked, Bruce knew how to speak english.

Chris Nolan, if you must add Rachel Dawes in this movie, let it be so that she dies a gracious death, and let it be done with.

    Maggie Gyllenhal

    by Redmantle

Not cute. Average. Just average. But she can act okay. Holmes was not great in the first one, but I'd rather see her than Gyllenhal. Where is Rachel McAdams? She would have been better here, and would have been better as Lois Lane too.

    No Lost Talk Back

    by kbaker13

Anyone else feel that this whole "No Lost TB this week" is like that episode of the Simpsons where they couldn't watch TV so everyone is out doing different things (jumping rope, playing hopskotch(?), fishing, etc.) Now with no Lost TB everyone is forced to go and coment on other TBs about other subjects they dont usually commnet on. Maybe this no Lost TB thing is good for everyone...or maybe as soon as Itchy and Scatchy comes back on we will all be right back in front of the TV with our eyes glued to it. I'm betting on the later.

We need McShaye to play as Al Swearengen in at least one film every year.

    Maggie Gyllenhaal

    by shellfishh

    There's two different hotness scales.
One is the 'would you go home with her if she hit on you in a club?' standard, which is much lower than the 'girlfriend asks you if a Victoria's Secret model is pretty' standard.

On the first one, yes, I'd do her. On the second one...no, she's not very attractive.

Maggie Gyllenhaal shoudl be a new Batman villain

    by torontoxic

...called The Ugly Stick. If she touches you your eyes start to droop, your nose pugs up, you gain 30 pounds, and your voice goes all nasal.
Her husband paid Peter North to impregnate her. He didn't even have to leave the house to do it. He phoned it in cause he's Peter North.
The fact that guys who circle this place would plug her means squat, dick, and..um...fagfuck all? Most AICN talkbackers would fuck a reasonably attractive hole in the wall if they thought no one would find out about it.

to whoever said he looks young....

    by BLWiseass

Baltimore had Martin O'Malley as a mayor for like 7 years before he won the governorsnip and he looked young when he first became mayor and still looks pretty young. He is also incredibly corrupt, but that is another story

i thought there was only one villain

    by BLWiseass

the joker. The crime boss charachter will be very secondary and I doubt Harvey Dent will become two face early enough in this movie to be a factor.

    Hmmmm.......

    by Ras Al Khul

Remember when Batman Begins was being made they told us that Ken Watanabe was gonna be playing Ra's Al Ghul only to kill him off in the first half hour and do the big 'its really neesham' reveal. Hows abouts during this bank heist thats supposed to be the opening to the new film that Heath Ledgers character gets killed beyond doubt and we are all like "so whos the joker then?" and later on the the film it turns out that it was really this guy the whole time. It would certainly work in terms of making the joker the perfect counterfoil to batman. both men who have very public personas by day- Bruce Wayne and the mayor of Gotham city- and lead darker lives by night. i dunno, having one insane bank robber as batmans greatest enemy never sat right with me, but if the mayor was some kind of evil genius pulling strings in the background, ordering his goons to rob banks and whatever as part of his huge evil plan, then THAT would be an interesting story.
