Joe Carnahan thinks Jason Bateman is a REMARKABLE FELLOW and so does Universal!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Now, this sounds like an interesting project. Jason Bateman's small screentime in SMOKIN' ACES was one of my favorite things about that movie. Now Joe Carnahan is writing a movie, based on an idea by Bateman, called THE REMARKABLE FELLOWS. It's a buddy action comedy that will star Bateman as one of a pair of brothers who take over the family business, which is set around exacting revenge for their clients. They are "part James Bond and part Ricky Jay." Sounds like a great role for Bateman. Carnahan is writing this before pre-production starts on WHITE JAZZ. Universal is gonna put up the bank.

Anyway, I do like this Jason Bateman, so I look forward to whatever he does next. As someone above said, he was easily the best thing about Smokin' Aces, which was otherwise an awful, sub-Tarantino, sub-Guy Ritchie pile of nonsense. It does have a special place in my heart, though, because it is the one and only film I have ever walked out on.

I think the idea is ripe for exploiting as an action comedy buddy flick but clearly Bateman didn't have the original idea, it's just Dirty Work with more action. Oh and Smokin' Aces is a totally pointless film, not enough fun or action for me to want to watch it again, sure it has some moments but for a film that doesn't take itself too seriously it took itself too seriously, the whole plot was pretty shit and pointless when you think about it.

The Black Dahlia was a more obvious cinematic adaptation and DePalma a suitable match for the material and it turned out to be THE WORST ADAPTATION EVER. White Jazz is even more complicated, with a more distinct narrative style and a much less likeable protagonist. Even if Joe films a good flick the studio will cut it down to shreds.

Jason Bateman was awesome in Smokin Aces but the guy that stole that movie was the sluggish dude who was part of Ben Affleck's crew with the beard and shaggy hair! I kept saying, who is that actor? He is hilarious! The scenes with the little kid taunting him were cinema magic.

movie he made with Jamie Fox supposed to be out by now? And isn't he good buddies with Vince Vaughn...Starsky & Hutch (loved the 'stache)..Dodgeball..The Break-Up...I don't know if he can carry a flick on his own, but he's some damn fine support.

if his ideas were worth anything, he wouldn't have to resort to being a complete ass to get attention. jerry falwell was the same way. if you scream loud enough, people will listen, even if you have nothing substantial to say. it's akin to giving yourself a really cringe-inducingly stupid talkback name just so people will notice that...oh wait...you've got that covered already.

Funny how much of a following he has thanks to AD. Or Silver Spoons, I don't know. AD made and remade so many careers it's not even funny. Shit, now I'm angry again. Best show ever, man. And Smokin Aces was a treat. Carnahan's got a good record so far, not counting Blood Guts Bullets and Octane.
