A cool lookin' Cannes poster for the sci-fi war flick MUTANT CHRONICLES hits!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Way back in the day I visited the preproduction offices for this film, MUTANT CHRONICLES, as part of my London tour that included a set visit for HOT FUZZ and a preproduction visit to STARDUST.
I liked what I saw... very dark, gritty, smokey... A world that felt lived in, at least in the preproduction art. Check it here to read about my time in the offices and see a piece of production art!
The movie's wrapping up in Post is going to be at the market in Cannes. I haven't seen this image anywhere else, so this probably a first. It's the Cannes poster for the flick and pretty nifty. It's a cliched image, a line-up in shadow, but somehow they pull it off well.
I also notice their website is live. If you so desire, click it here to visit it!
Hope the flick is good. We're in desperate need of a really kickass, fun and well-made sci-fi action film. I'm gonna need to see some moving footage to be convinced either way. I like the art and I like the poster images we've seen, but the real test will be seeing it move.
Here's the Cannes poster. Click it to get a big version!

And can I really have her?
-
fuck posters, EVERYBODY CHECK OUT BBWF @ CANNES....
-
looks like the Lost season 2 posters.
-
But then again The Matrix had the stars of Event Horizon and Johnny Mnemonic and that turned out ok. I'll still go see any movie with guns and mutants that makes it past Sci-Fi Channel
-
They convinced me, I'll see it. wow, I'm easy.
-
Hmm, the plot synopsis on the homepage of this flick doesn't inspire awe, originality, or coolness. In fact, the "us versus them" has been done in Aliens and Pitch Black. Have faith? Lukewarm.
-
You can't have Mutant Chronicles without Mega-huge shoulder armor! That's insane!
-
These wacky science fiction guys always mix things up.
-
Seriously, what is up with these on-hold releases. Between this and Killshot, if these movies were badass they would have been out long ago. And what is that catchphrase all about? "Have faith"? Seriously, are they trying to appeal to the Red States with that crap. Is this the Battlefield Earth of Christianity Sci-Fi? If not, change the poster asap.

Looks JUST like this.

Not some metaphoric expression for Singer to show life for gay people struglling for acceptance. Gritty dark and foreboding. Sorry still not overe what Singer did to Superman .

Resistance: Fall of Man?? Same thing, verdad?

This is what happens when you get old and married boys; you don't know what's hot anymore. Oh and Harry, you're about to come face-to-face with my fate once you come back from your honeymoon. In any case, since I'm 32 and too old to know anything about pop culture, I had to look up Mutant Chronicles on wikipedia, and you know, if its on wikipedia, it's gotta be true...ANYWAY, here's the basic details on this deal fellas:A film called, "The Mutant Chronicles", was directed by Simon Hunter and stars Thomas Jane, John Malkovich, Devon Aoki, Ron Perlman and others will reportedly be released in 2008. The story is set 400 years into the future (23rd or 24th century). The movie is described as a futuristic Saving Private Ryan set in a world where nearly everything is powered by steam. Mankind has exhausted Earth’s natural resources. Four corporations have taken over the world in which they are constantly at war with one another, the Bauhaus, the Mishima Corporation, the Capitol Corporation and the Imperial Corporation. Now between you, me and the lamppost, this deal doesn't sound so bad. TJane is a cool guy and Malky rules. I'm in for at least a matinee.

Holy crap I can't believe I did something right for a chance in an AICN talkback--Van Buren my friend you magnificent bastard--I hadn't even read a single post when I left mine and as I came back through to read the posts I spotted your's!Who would have thought I'd actually have followed your advice without knowing it! See, not everyone on the site is an, ahem, "ignorant dumbass."...well..not me anyway...
-
And I quote (from the movie's web site): "they find themselves facing a new enemy: hideous necromutants..."
Yep. Soon to be littering Blockbuster bargain bins near you. -
There is just no way someone would make a good movie and call it "Mutant Chronicles".
-
I really, really do!

to bad I already read that bastards topic...
Sylar-eats-brains is officially on my death list. -
Mutant Chronicles was a Role playing game, then a miniature game, becuase of that there is quite a bit of background / design work already done for it to draw from (and it kicked ass). I was a fan of both of those so I can say I am looking forward, but for a non fan the thought of a sci-fi / demon flick should still appeal. Think of it as the film Doom wasnt. :)
Still if they get it wrong it could be really realy bad. -
...are films based on role playing games.
-
The one with the mutant arm, it really complimented the flavor of the title. This one is generic.

See? Much better. -
This kind of sci-fi film interests me with the saving private ryan scifi concept. Though I started to watch the video diaries and was a little concerned. The guy responsible for the prosthetic effects has a uni-brow.
-
I like the cast of actors in this one as well as its basic premise, but director Simon Hunter is a relative newcomer and the writers' only other credit is "Event Horizon." Which could make this kind of badass if they get serious about doing it right.
Hope the action is at least intense and brutal. -
I'm even more concerned for this project. The director of this film quotes Michael Bay during one of the production diaries on advice on directing. I knew we would have an opportunity to rip on Bay somewhere in this talkback
