Irvine Welsh Talks A Little Bit About The Possible TRAINSPOTTING Sequel!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here. This is one of those long-rumored projects that I hope happens. I adore TRAINSPOTTING, and I think if Boyle was able to put the cast back together for a sequel now, the results could be fascinating. Check out this report from a spy who ran into Welsh at a recent event:

Guys. Long time reader, sometime Talkback lurker (I'm ReedybUFF there). Hope this interesting to you. I caught Irvine Welsh at a party in Atlanta for the paperback release of his new book, "Bedroom Secrets of the Master Chefs." It was pretty hilarious or disgusting, depending on your point of view. There is a video clip of one part of the reading here. And a blogger called Baby Got Books wrote about the event here. Anyway. Someone asked about upcoming films based on his books and he had this answer that included Trainspotting sequel news. "I'm kind of very excited. One is being filmed right now. It's called "Ecstasy." It's a Canadian guy called Rob Heyden who is filming that. They actually ran out of money and they are going to raise more money now to shoot the rest of it. They're just starting up the production again, so they hope to have that finished by the summer. "Filth" has just been sold to a guy in Hollywood who wants to make it in Spring of next year (2008). Danny Boyle and Andrew Macdonald who did Trainspotting have been back on a bit about "Porno" and they are determined that they are doing that in the next 18 months. It's like busses. You never get one for ages and then three come along at once. And I'm doing a lot of film stuff myself. I've got a couple of film production companies. We are doing stuff that's not related to the books. We hope to have a film out on British TV called "Wedding Belles" and we hope to have that come to the states next year." If you use this, you can call me Jed Leland.

Where did you get this information from?

    by Kristian66

Weding Belles was on British TV over a month ago. I think they should leave Trainspotting alone. Ewan said he will not go near it anyway.

    by moobit

yeah ewan mcgregor said he didnt quite

    by misnomer

get the same feeling from the book as the first. I happen to agree, Porno wasnt that great...well....compared to the original.

Ewan McGregor has to be in this.

    by HarryBlackPotter

Please guys, patch up your differences. Renton was Ewan's best role and seeing someone else as Renton is like going diving in a toilet full of shit - not a good idea.

    Welsh is irrelevant.

    by wowsah156

Although Welsh made his name with trainspotting, to be honest speaking has a fellow Scotsman his recent books have been crap. Welsh has become a caricature who spends his time on newspapaer freebies under the disguise of "journalism". Laughable. The sequle doesnt need to be made since Porno was a terrible piece of writing. If it does get made it will be laughable.

    Regarding the Info

    by Reedyb UFF

Kristian66, I took this right off the video tape I shot at the event. He was answering a question about movies of his books. I think he may have just been speaking about Wedding Belles coming to America, when he said they are working on it coming out. As for his writing, I haven't actually read anything, but in the reading, he read three excerpts from "Bedroom Secrets of the Master Chefs" and they were all pretty funny (maybe it was the Scottish accent) and disgusting in the vein of Chuck Palahniuk.

Fair enough. By the way, if you found that funny, you really should read all his other books, I know a lot of people here are not saying they are much good (they are not alone), but I think they are brilliant.

    Erm, Wedding Belles...

    by Brody77

has already been on TV here & is out on dvd. It's also completely shit. I think everyone would love to see more of the Trainspotting Characters, or should I say Begbie - but it'll probably never happen. If they do though, just have Kelly MacDonald get her kit off again & I'm there! lol

i don't feel good about this sequel

    by PullMyFinger

i loved the first movie, but this needs to be filed under 'unnecessary sequels'

  • May 15, 2007, 10:32 a.m. CST

Begbie has already been in one bad Danny Boyle sequel

    by Garbageman33

Why not go for the double? And yes, I know Danny Boyle wasn't the director of 28 Plot Holes Later. But he still got an executive producer credit.

Filth was great, but how would they film the tapeworm? Also Glue would make a better movie then Porno although I liked that too.

Haven't read the author's other books

    by Abominable Snowcone

But if this new movie doesn't have Ewan MacGregor's character in it, or any of the others, and is about a new bunch of characters, it's not really a sequel then, is it?

  • May 15, 2007, 12:56 p.m. CST

    AbSnowcone...Porno has

    by sHapesHiftinLizard

the same returning characters from Trainspotting, it's pretty good, I'd compare it to DK2 in terms of coming after a truly great book that's very hard to follow, the sequel being very different to the orig and having a slighter story to it. I'm from Glasgow and can relate to plenty of things in Welsh's books, ive read and enjoyed em all apart from the latest Chef one and the last third of Glue which is a big book, i left it behind at my parents and never got round to finishing it, it's very good and if condensed could make a good flick as Norseman said. I'd really like to see 'Porno' get made,'Filth' too, that was a funny one, i imagine theyd do little animation sequences with the tapeworm.
