David Mamet’s REDBELT Has A Cast Now!

Published at:  May 15, 2007 5:16:48 AM CDT

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I’ve got this script sitting on my desk right now, and I should find time to read it. I’m curious to see what a David Mamet martial arts film is going to be like, and the script review over on CHUD today by Mr. Beaks sounds promising.

The cast that’s coming together is strange, to say the least, but my favorite sentence in the Variety story gives some indication of why this is worth looking forward to:

“Ejiofor has been training in London with members of the Gracie family, the renowned Brazilian fighting clan.”

Indeed.

    Randy Couture and Dan Inosanto...

Cancel out the Tim Allen factor... I'm there! This thing could be Spartan meets Bloodsport. Which of course is a recipe for a perfect film.

    I like Tim Allen...

I just hate everything he's been in except for "Galaxy Quest." If he gets a chance to shine in a David Mamet movie, more power to him.

I agree. The role in this one actually suits him. He plays a faux tough guy action star who, early on, gets rescued from a nightclub brawl by the hero. I love that the first legit MMA film is being done by Mamet.

    a couple years too late..

for Tim Allen. He should have done this type of movie sooner. Still this movie sounds great, especially with the additions of UFC fighters like Randy Corture. www.obsessedwithfilm.com

By Grabthar's hammer, let's hope the Redbelt isn't the same one Tim wore in "The Santa Clause".

Allen's casting makes perfect sense, in light of Mamet's including "Galaxy Quest" in his list of "perfect movies".

    This is going to rock

Two of my favorite things mixed together, Mamet and MMA. This is like getting a blowjob while smoking some good weed. Even Tim Allen can't screw this up. In fact, Tim Allen may be cool after this. Also please bring back Rebecca Pidgeon. She is so damn appealing in The Spanish Prisoner, I can't take it. Even though I know her character is a liar, that she is going to screw me over righteously, I dont care. That few days of playing the wide eyed, naive, loving, cool chick would make the aftermath all worth it.

    Joe Mantegna and Tim Allen

I don't know if I can take that much bland in one movie. And a martial arts movie at that. Weird. I really loved Spartan though. Can't believe no one saw it.
