I Know What You’ll Do Next Summer!! SWEEPS DAY 20!! VERONICA MARS, P.I.!!

Published at:  May 15, 2007 4:17:45 AM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

Tonight’s installment is titled “I Know What You’ll Do Next Summer.” The CW says:

Veronica (Kristen Bell) passes her exam to be an official Private Investigator, while Piz (Chris Lowell) lands an interview with Apollo Bukenya (guest star Nelsan Ellis, "The Inside"), an African student at Hearst who wrote a book about his years as an orphan child-soldier in Uganda's rebel army. Veronica is hired by an African man, Kizza (guest star Babs Olusanmokun, Law & Order: Criminal Intent"), to help prove that he is Apollo's father, but her investigation leads to information that might expose Apollo's story as a fake. Meanwhile, as the election for Sheriff nears, Keith (Enrico Colantoni) is faced with a crime spree in Neptune. Parker (Julie Gonzalo) comes to Veronica for advice about Logan (Jason Dohring) after learning he planned to spend the summer surfing with Dick (Ryan Hansen). Percy Daggs, Francis Capra and Tina Majorino also star. Nick Marck directed the episode written by Jonathan Moskin and David Mulei

Is “Veronica” back in the fall? The CW announces its fall schedule Thursday.

Next week’s 2-hour season finale, which involves a Weevil arrest, bikinis, a sex tape, an election and the fists of a movie star’s son, airs next Tuesday. Everybody says it rocks.

9 p.m. Tuesday. The CW.

Since he so vocally tossed his lot in with the Palladino's last spring and predicted utter disaster for the show, he knows he'd look like a complete fool if he tried to backtrack now. Nonetheless, dumping the Palladino's was the best move WB/CW could have made and it worked out splendidly. The show went out with a fine last season.

Breaking out the bikinis that is. We could have used a bit more of that since it IS California. What better place to solve crimes than at the beach? Also hot sweaty bed wrestling with Logan went farther than the constant bickering. Just some thoughts, please, for renewal.

The prison and genie episodes from last month were two of the series best. But the show isn't perfect. Just like The X-Files, the mythology episodes, outside of last season's finale are kinda meh. If it doesn't return, I hope Ackles lands a good gig. Next to Holloway, he's the next big thing.

    Lamenting my Gilmore Girls

    by fart_master_flex

Oh those poor Gilmore Girls. If only they could have gone out on a good note. There is nothing worse than a show that stays past its prime.

Don't be fooled people, last season sucked too. I know the phrase jump the shark has actually jumped the shark. But seriously, when Luke found out he had a fucking daughter? That was when the fucking jumped the shark. So I actually applaud the writers of the show for doing the best they could with the sorry state the Paladinos left the show in.

    by brianroberts101

Wow, that's the weirdest sounding subject line ever! I have definitely had mixed feelings about this season, but the last 1/2 has been remarkably above the caliber of season 6. Even April didn't bother me as much, and at least Rosenthal brought back some of the peripheral characters. I'm not ecstatic about this season, but I'm much happier with the progress it has made after the crap way the Paladinos ended last season. Another thing about the Palladinos: they had no clue what to do with Luke and Lorelai after they got the two together. So, they thrust April into the mix, and completely screwed up a potentially great season. Ugh. Anyway, I'll still watch the DVDs again with my wife (ALL seasons) because even below-average GG is better than most crap on TV.

    by danielkurland

That'd be really great. I'd settle for a Ruggiero/Thomas combo, or at this point, even a Ruggiero/Enbom combo. Still loving the show in spite of the standalone stuff, but I really wish Logan never made that cake. That's not his character at all.

Maybe Logan's on Prozac or something. That would be a hilarious little twist. Oh, and off-topic, and not that I'm a fan, cuz I only saw about 1/2 of one, but that CBS Jericho thing has been axed according to Ausiello. I just saw that.

Let's face it the show (VM) was on it's way up. It had something like the largest debut of a non-WWF show in UPN's short history, it has Kristen Bell, who's hot as hell, and a great sense of itself. What's UPN do? Screw it up! No, let's send Veronica to college and do all these other things...let's not let the show grow organically! That would make sense!

I've come to take what you say to somewhat high regard as we've come to share opinions on VM, Studio 60, and various other shows. I tried not to get my hopes up about VM returning, but with the re-tooling and all of that, I couldn't help but be a little optimistic, and now this. I guess Rob Thomas will take on that job as showrunner for that show on CBS. At least they're less trigger-happy with cancelling shows, and I'm glad I gave up on Jericho quickly, if it ended up not getting a second season. OH WELL. I guess I'll just have Lost, How I Met Your Mother, The Office, and BSG (which I've never been THAT into) next year. Maybe some of those new HBO shows will be worthwhile. Hopefully.

    by prof. pop-cult

Hilarious. The season finale ended on several cliffhangers -- the war with New Bern heating up, a reconstituted U.S. marines force heading toward Jericho to hunt down Hawkins... but never mind now! The End. On the one hand, I'm not going to miss the show. On the other hand, it would have been much better if the producers wrapped up all the storylines at the end of the season, with the intent to come up with new storylines for a second season. So for all of us who sat through all 22 episodes of Jericho -- it all ended on a cliffhanger.

It all depends on two things, I think; the rating for tonight, and if Thomas decides to call it a day and take CBS' offer to showrun Viva Longthorn. Thing is, Kristen Bell is not even on the mainland, as she's filming Forgetting Sarah Anderson in Hawaii. They're gonna have to make a decision quick so they can fly her and Colantoni to NYC for the upfront presentation Thursday at MSG.

No more rushing home Tuesday nights to watch the Gilmore Girls, no more rewatching the episodes on tape over the weekend to prep for the next week, no more watching the season DVD's over the summer to get my fix before the new fall episodes return. Seven seasons went past way too swiftly.

Classic Keith, and perfect VM facial expression. Too funny. Good episode, if a bit telegraphed on the whole 'fake' story reveal. I did find myself bored during the Logan/Parker moments though. Dick's conversation with his dad felt a little ham-handed too, but I think that stems from my personal reluctance to view Dick as anything more than one-dimensional. Don't give Dick a soul...he's simple.

My long winded conclusive thoughts on Veronica Mars...

    by danielkurland

This is even more poignant now that the show is like 99 percent cancelled. This was a great episode, and it reminded me of why this show works. The Keith and Veronica banter was great, in spite of how I'm not completely behind both Veronica and Logan's new relationships, I did enjoy watching them work parallel to each other, and the fact that someone like Cliff will agree to do an episode just to deliver one line is all very nice. Thank you for that scene between Dick and his father about Beaver. It was long overdue. I would have liked to have seen Veronica call Logan about her FBI business, but I thought about it, and it doesn't even seem like she'd call Wallace to tell him this information. Next week's finale looks great. I hope that Veronica's "You're out of my life for good" to Logan comment isn't how things end with them, because blowing that in the commercial would be foolish, and I don't see why Veronica would defend Piz if what he did is actually what he did. Overall, the third season of this show wasn't that bad. Arrested Development is probably one of the finest shows to come to TV, but its third season also faltered due to network interference. It's incredibly hard to run a TV show, especially today, especially when you have a smart show, and the network is insisting that you simplify things. I can't imagine how difficult that would be, but all things considered, despite the changes, as a whole I think VM's last season will be looked kindly upon in retrospect. Season one and two were truly epic television but season one sufferred in my opinion from a lot of poorly conceived standalone episodes, and season two did become pretty busy (I didn't mind this so much though). Watching this show as a collective WILL hold up though, and I don't think people will be attacking the third season when everything is said and done. My only regrets is that the show had to compromise their vision to get viewers, and they still got fucked over in the end, and that the last episode we'll see, while being conclusive, was not written as a final episode and stuff WILL be left dangling (Thomas has stated this). So, Veronica Mars, you were a great, great show, and your only fault was being too fucking smart. Had you of made Paris Hilton's character in season one a regular cast member, we'd probably all be reading about it's renewal up to 2010. Knock it out of the park next week, and make sure Dohring, Colitani, and Bell get steady work in television. Thanks for reading this.

    Gilmore Girls Finale

    by brianroberts101

Okay, Pennsy (and everybody else), here's my PBP of the last-ever GG. I had to do this at work because AICN wouldn't let me log-in at home last night (I'm an English teacher, so I'm doing this while the kids are watching "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"). Anyway, first, I loved this episode. It was a nice cap to a pretty perfect series run. I really liked that it felt like almost every other episode or season finale of the show (except the atrocious season 6 finale...ugh...why, Palladinos, why?!). Sometimes shows try too hard to make the series finale a HUGE event, and it changes the feel of the finale, making it not work (i.e. Seinfeld). In this case, though, the writers really nailed it; this episode could have been a season OR series finale. Pros: 1. It brought back every minor character (for the most part), which shows that Rosenthal understood the show was almost as much about the town as it was about the Gilmores. 2. The Luke/Lorelai thing was ended nicely, without overdoing it. They could have made the last episode one in which they elope and live happily ever after, but it was a wise choice to leave their relationship to the imagination. Besides, Luke and Lorelai don't really work as a couple the way the Palladinos did it. It's much better if we just know they're together and we don't have to actually see the relationship problems, etc. Also, I liked the parallel to Lorelai's proposal to Luke--she kissed him in the finale for the same reason she proposed to him. She realized how much he cares for her and for Rory, and how he would do anything for them. 3. Emily trying to trick Lorelai into continuing Friday-night dinners. This was a nice, quiet touch by the writers, and smartly, it wasn't made into a big deal. 4. The final shot. Same as the pilot and theme montage and a fitting end to a great series.
Cons: Not much that I can think of, and I'm really critical of most of what I watch. I didn't like the Christiane Amanpour cameo--it just didn't fit like the Norman Mailer one a few years back. Because it came before anything else in the episode, it seemed tacked-on just to get Rory's idol in the show...minor complaint. Also, I guess I wish this could have been a two-parter so everything could have been paced a little better, but then again, that would probably have made the episode feel different than the rest of the series. Anyway, overall, a very nice conclusion, and while it's sad to think there will never be a new episode of Glimore Girls, maybe there didn't need to be. I initially jumped on the bandwagon for a shortened 8th season, just to tie up all the loose ends, but there aren't really any left...if there were an 8th season, it would be extraneous material, filler really, and we just don't need it. I'm satisfied.
