NBC Buys More Science Fiction: JOURNEYMAN & BIONIC!! Plus Josh Schwartz’ CHUCK!! Plus FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS 2.X!!
I am – Hercules!!
It looks like the success of "Heroes" has emboldened NBC to stick with the strange. (Bet they're glad they didn't give up after "Surface" tanked!)
The network doesn’t announce its fall slate till Monday, but Mike Ausiello at TV Guide already has some of its key components:
* “The Bionic Woman,” a scifi drama about a cyborg babe, from writer-producer David Eick (“Battlestar Galactica”) and writer Laeta Kalogridis (“Alexender,” “Battle Angel”).
* “Journeyman,” a scifi drama about a dude who keeps traveling back through time to fix stuff, from writer Kevin Falls (“The West Wing,” “North Shore”).
* “Chuck,” an "Alias"-y adventure about a twentysomething secret agent, from “OC” mastermind Josh Schwartz.
* “Life,” about a cop who returns to the force after spending two years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, from writer Rand Ravich (“The Astronaut’s Wife,” “Candyman 2”).
* And “Friday Night Lights” Season Two!
All now have series orders!

great, im a whore
-
As in the old computer text adventure series about a time traveller?
-
Only two episodes left! When will season 2 start??
-
FNL really deserves a second season. I enjoyed it much more than the movie. We already know Heroes and The Office are coming back, so that was their only show I was concerned about.
-
As long as there is a cameo by Max the dog, Ill be happen. Oh, yeah, the Fembots too. (anyone ever notice how the Austin Powers movies ripped off the name Fembots? Sigh....)
-
are they getting Scott Bakula to reprise his role?
-
"a scifi drama about a dude who keeps traveling back through time to fix stuff"
Oh the originality. I am willing to sell my idea to NBC for only $9.95 and parking validation for the meeting- its a show about a group of police officers who solve crime while dealing with their own personal issues. -
yes, but what about Aquaman? Will there ever be another season of The Lost Room?
-
Interesting how NBC chooses crap over good television. If you watch the episodes online, you would notice that it was a really compelling show.
-
my heart breaks.
-
still old. The Bionic Woman? seriosly they're carrying this joke a little far...
what's next... The New A-Team... More Diff'rent Strokes... or... new from David Eick, an edgy reboot of Alf, he's back and he's PISSED! (uh, that's really upset, for any of our TB'ers from across the Pond... but then didn't Alf really like beer? ...so it works either way.) -
Highly underrated. I actually prefer the series to the movie.
-
Bionic Woman = Not even an original name...
Journeyman = "Quantum Leap" without Ziggy and Sam...
Chuck = Alias with a hot guy instead of a hot chick...
Life = It's a cop show, but I bet it's no Hill Street Blues...
-
Bastards.
-
...and here's why. Not one of them is even remotely original. Every one of these shows has a been there done that quality about it. Glad they're giving FNL a second season though.
-
...a year from now, all of these shows will be getting cacelled anyway. The networks' unwillingness to let a show with modest ratings find it's audience is the main reason I usually don't bother following anything new. The fact that they're not coming up with anything original is only a liitle extra fuel for an already roaring fire.
-
good jorb FNL
-
*that's* how you describe the Bionic Woman? Not "a remake/reboot of the 70s spin off starring Lindsey Wagner"? pfeh.
-
...just kidding.
-
The Journeyman Project was a graphical adventure trilogy, yo! But yes, it had time travelers and all that. Can it really be a coincidence that they share the same name? Will Agent 5 be making a cameo? Will Arthur?
-
Fracking ass holas.
-
Is that the one with slaaaaaaaaaaag supremo Kat Slater in it?
-
Why, God? Why?
-
Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose!

more Lyla Garrity, yay... -
Including four hour-long episodes, per E! Entertainment Television.

The bass-turds.
-
I've vever seen Heroes, but on paper the premise sounds an awful lot like X-men. That show still seems to have earned plenty of fans.
-
That was a good show.
-
Is that that thing with Kevin McKidd? You know... Lucius Vorenus?
-
Thanks for FNL season 2!
-
You know, with Sam "FLASH GORDON" Jones and that Jocko, the annoying battery pitch man.
-
'Nuff said? Say no more. Nudge-nudge, grin-grin, wink-wink...
-
Was on CBS, not NBC.
-
I've read the script. Remember how OC kept getting more annoyingly self-referential as the series went on, until it was just un-freaking-bearable? Well, this show STARTS at that point. Also: not that exciting. There's real action, and there's McG action. This is the latter.
-
Circa 1978. The show jumped from ABC to NBC for the '77-'78 season. One and done.
-
Just sad that the season cliff hanger was never resolved. Good show.
-
Good God, I'm too old for this shit anymore. Bring back the Gillette Cavalcade of Sports.
-
As well as Dennis Haysbert pre-"24". But not the ratings :(
-
Journeyman sounds like its got potential, and The Lindsay Wagner Power Hour Redux sounds OK. The premiere should be the Return of the Fembots!! Yesssss, Cooool! One thing though, how the HELL does lame ass crap like Dancing with the Stars beat out both HEROES and 24 in the ratings. What the F!!?????? Are there really so few of us who starve for intelligent and engaging storytelling out here?
-
This restores my faith in humanity.
-
the best place to go to pitch a show. this season, they gave studio 60 a shot. they gave friday night lights a shot. heroes is a hit. shit, they even gave kidnapped some cash to finish its order. i watch almost every pilot anyway, but i'll definitely be looking out for bionic woman, journeyman, and chuck.
-
And wittled down the greatest night of programing from three shows to two. But what a night it was. A-TEAM AND KNIGHT RIDER FOREVER!
-
Very cool stories in the game all those years ago- "time traveling crimes" and all that. really interesting world they made back then... i hope they don't eff it up! those journeyman suits were freakin cool too... maaannn... cant wait for fall!
-
The success of something like Heroes IS a rarity, and although it's nice to see investments like this, stick it out for Studio 60. Also, after all the network politic garbage this year, I find myself saying that CBS has become my favorite network, in spite of barely watching any programming on it. If I was pitching a show, I'd definitely take it there.
-
Tom Selleck vs. Lee Majors. Mr. T vs Fonzie! I would pay 10K of my own money to see Lost vs. Heroes in the tug of war. Lost has it hands down w/Hurley at the anchor. Oh and THANK YOU NBC FOR RENEWING FNL. It was a great season for that show and it's a wonderful series.
-
yeah but its a crying shame she cant fucking act...theres better acting to be got from a plank of wood
-
And yes, this is the show with Rome's Kevin McKidd, which is the primary reason why I'll be giving this one a shot when it hits.
-
Time travel? Check. Kevin McKidd? Check. I'll be there.
-
Is there any clear idea on exactly what the "Journeyman" show is? So far still all I've seen is the basic description (guy travels back in time to fix stuff). Between that basic premise and the name it is hard not to think it has something to do with the games, but it is so vague that it seems like it might not have anything to do with it. Personally I'd dig a TV series based on the Journeyman Project, but I am wondering how much, if anything, this show actually has to do with the old games. Who would even own the rights to the Journeyman Project anyway? Presto Studios closed down, and I don't recall hearing if anyone bought up their IP or not.
-
NBC wasn't the axe holder on that one. CBS didn't market or promote the show worth a damn...nothing like the steaming turd that was "Threshold"...and surprise!, it was dropped. With a giant cliffhanger. The only time I howled more was the last Twin Peaks when Dale Cooper looked into the mirror and Evil Bob (who actually works where I do now) looked back.
-
Nothing on that list looks interesting or original.
Good time to remake the Tick. -
NBC already announced they want to go cheaper with their programming; most people are assuming something along the lines of 11 hours of scripted programming (2 hours M/T/W/F, 3 hours on Thursday).
Shows we know are coming back:
Heroes, Las Vegas, Medium, SVU, Office, Earl, 30 Rock, and now FNL.
That's 6.5 hours already covered! Add in these 4 new shows, and probably ER, as its ratings are acceptable and little here looks good to replace it, and the entire scripted schedule is covered.Even assuming a couple show up as mid-series replacements, we're looking at just about all of NBC's other shows have to be getting the axe: L&O, CI, Studio 60, Crossing Jordan, etc. all just got whacked (well, CJ might show up as a midseason, but I wouldn't put money on it).Oh yeah, the shows themselves: I'll be shocked if two of them survive through November. -
...and Louis Gossett Jr.s career has never been the same...
-
“Journeyman,” a scifi drama about a dude who keeps traveling back through time to fix stuff, from writer Kevin Falls (“The West Wing,” “North Shore”).
Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam!!!
Hello? -
...That show had limitless possibilities!
-
"Arthur, they called him Arthur
He was an artificial intelligence that was coool...
Arthur, they called him Arthur
They said that his sing-ing was annoying but he was no fool..."
"Rope bridge. VERY dangerous! You go first." -
Lee Van Cleef and Timothy Van Patten? None better.
-
about Friday Night Lights. Awesome that you have a boner over it, but do you really need to mention it every time you talk about NBCs dramas? Also, "Journeyman" sounds like a lame version of "Quantum Leap" that will probably get canceled. Hell, who am I kidding, with maybe the exception of "Life" or "Chuck" almost all of these shows are going to be canceled inside of their initial 13 episode run. Kidnapped, anyone?
-
When all they had to do was hang on another several years until the negative publicity gave the show that train-wreck appeal.
-
I was going to say Baywatch Nights, but caught myself.
-
True; CBS didn't have their hands on it at first.
-
oh, a Female version of the "The Six Million Dollar Man"?
reminds me of heavily of "Quantum Leap" which was called "Zurück in die Vergangenheit" hier in Germany. -
...reality shows have what I call 'The Trainwreck Factor'. Ya ever notice how drivers on the freeway always slow down when going past any kind of vehicular accident scene, even if there's no police or EMS around?
-
Have a guy travel back in time to correct things that go wrong. I know, let's say he can only go back a week and must correct things that affect national security . . . as in Seven Days, which ran from 1998-2001 on UPN. Whatever happened to originality?
