Hey, guys. "Moriarty" here. Something to keep in mind as you watch tonight's episode.
It was directed by Frank Darabont. Yep. Mr. SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION. And this episode is the reason you're going to see the version of THE MIST that you'll see this fall. I hope you've read Quint's amazing set reports. One of the things he discussed at length is the way Frank's changed his visual style for this film. He's always been a guy who went to great lengths to control every bit of his frame, to compose his films in a very classical style.
And if you're a fan of THE SHIELD, you know that's not the visual style of this show. Not at all. And when Frank agreed to direct this, it completely changed him. He had to adapt, and I think it set something free in him. In TV, you have to keep things moving. When we shot our MASTERS episodes, they were incredibly fast schedules. Doing this directly led to him realizing how he could make a monster movie with a pulse, something that would energize King's story.
So check out tonight's episode with that in mind. Just a cool something extra, as if you weren't already planning to watch since this season is kicking such serious ass so far. Viva la Shane.
Now back to Herc and Capone's regularly scheduled article, already in progress...
I am – Hercules!!
AICN’s main man in the Midwest, “Capone,” saw the first six episodes of “The Shield’s” sixth season, but no more. Here’s what we expect will be his final report. Beware uninvisotexted spoilers:
Episode 6.6 -- Chasing Ghosts
Thanks to the information given by an undercover informant to Hyatt, Vic begins to doubt the guilt of the Salvadoran in Lem's killing. His limited list of alternate suspect leads him back to the only other person he can think of that directly threatened Lem's life: Antwon Mitchell (Anthony Anderson).
But it doesn't take Vic long to realize that Antwon had nothing to do with it, and for the first time Vic begins to wonder about Shane's role in Lem's death as he replays the night in his mind.
The missing Salvadoran's girlfriend (the one the strike team clandestinely kidnapped), comes to the Barn to talk to Dutch about the missing drug dealer and provides the missing link between the team and the Salvadoran.
Meanwhile the team is put on the case of a murdered girl who was the daughter of a local politician. She apparently used to have sex with dealers for drugs, and now the team has to find out who killed her and why.
There's a scene in which Vic interrogates a suburban housewife in her home, and it's pretty ugly as he opens her legs to look for track marks.
Corrine comes to Vic to tell him that his oldest daughter has mysteriously stop wanting to talk to him, which Vic finds out is linked to his fathering a child with Danny. Vic eventually arranges a meeting between his daughter, Danny, and the baby, the impact of which is still inconclusive.
The politician whose daughter was killed implore the police department to keep he details of the death out of the paper, which Vic attempt to do in exchange for the politician to intervene at Vic's retirement hearing.
At one point, Hyatt tips that he is still well connected to a federal agency (I'm sure this isn't the last we'll hear on this), and the lab report comes in on Lem's death, giving Vic the evidence he needs to know who is responsible.
The last thing Vic says to Shane: "If I see you again, I will kill you."
