Battle Of The Bad Wedding Comedy Trailers! Isla Fisher and Jason Biggs Vs. Krasinski, Moore And Robin Williams!

Published at:  May 07, 2007 3:08:09 PM CDT

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I showed both of these trailers to my wife. She said she would see both of these films.

She’s a much better audience for this kind of stuff than I am. These movies are made for her. I’ll give you an example. Do you remember that film THE WEDDING DATE with Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney? No? Well, congratulations, you have a penis.

My wife, on the other hand, remembers it because she’s seen it 4,680 times. In fact, she may be watching it right now. She loves Bridget Jones. She positively coos for anything Sandra Bullock’s been in, as long as she’s falling in love. So these two films would seem to be aiming to get into my wife’s wallet, and not my own. So by that measure, it appears that these two trailers work.

But for me... looking at these...

*shakes head*

First up, a movie by Michael Ian Black. Yes, that Michael Ian Black. If I didn’t know that, I’d never guess it looking at the trailer. This looks generic, pat, completely routine. It’s evidently had a lot of titles already, including THE PLEASURE OF YOUR COMPANY and THE NEXT GIRL I SEE, finally settling on the completely forgettable WEDDING DAZE.

Hi Drew

Just wanted to let you know that a fab new international trailer has just gone live on Empire Online for the hilarious Wedding Daze as an exclusive (alongside loads of unseen images) – also not sure if you are aware but is now being released in the UK first on the 1st June

Okay. That pregnant gag is well-staged, but it’s an ooooooooold joke.

And speaking of old jokes, there’s a lot about LICENSE TO WED that looks mighty familiar to me. Still, John Krasinski is undeniably funny, and I’m willing to sit through this one hoping that he sparks some signs of life in Robin Williams, who I personally find far more interesting in his eccentric dramatic choices or his occasional oddball supporting work than I do in his mainstream comedies.

Ken Kwapis may have directed the pilot for THE OFFICE, but he also directed VIBES. This is a man capable of the highs of FREAKS AND GEEKS and the lows of THE BEAUTICIAN AND THE BEAST. Yes, he may have made some LARRY SANDERS SHOW episodes, but he also gave us DUNSTAN CHECKS IN.

The man contains multitudes. Which Ken Kwapis made this film?

    by kikuchiyoboy

    Just kidding.

Ps. I'm in the camp that liked Spidey 3. That is all.

    Quint, how dare you?

Kwapis directed sesame street's Big Bird vehicle, "Follow that Bird", which inspired me as a child to want to travel the world. been to 33 countries so far (I'm 27) and my goal is to visit every country in the world before I die. kwapis can do no wrong in my eyes, he is pure gold. dunstan checks in, indeed...

    I saw "Wedding Days/Daze"...

    by luxlisbon27

...back in September '06 at the Toronto Film Festival when it was indeed called "The Pleasure Of Your Company". It was cute and not as slapstick and quite frankly, lame, as the trailer makes it seem. It's similar in tone to a Farrelly Brothers movie, with a little of the absurd thrown in. Rob Corddry's cameo near the end is worth sitting through the whole movie for. I really can't stand Jason Biggs though. You really notice his innate vanilla-ness when he's next to Isla Fisher, who is adorable.

Please kill Robin Williams, or at least make him disappear forever.
Thank you in advance, The People.

    Comedies today...

    by tenguman

You know, in Vern's review for The Condemned, he lambasted current action movies, longing for the golden age of action movies, the 80's to mid-90's. Someone needs to do a similar piece on the current state of comedies.

    I also saw Wedding Daze...

    by danielkurland

back when it was called "The Pleasure of Your Company" at the Toronto Film Festival. It's a mediocrce, forgetable movie. It's nowhere near as good as "Wet, Hot, American Summer", but probably equal to Michael Showalter's "The Baxter". See if you're a huge Biggs fan, and Pantiliano and Corddry have some nice stuff, but it's hardly a great movie.

It should be a federal law...

    by kid z

... Nay! A Constitutional Amendment: If you are male, you are legally barred from seeing any chick-flick. But, I hear you whine, "But if we can't go to chick-flicks, there's nowhere to go on a cheap date! She won't go to any other movie and I'm a big-time geek with not alot of money... I don't wanna give up a chance that I might get lucky." Answer? Forget it bub... you ain't gettin' lucky, trust me. It's for your own good... believe me, life-long celibacy is a lot better than having to sit through Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason!
