Stan Winston's IRON MAN Mark III Suit Revealed!! It's Pretty Freakin' Cool!!
Merrick again…
We’ll make this one short and sweet.
Here’s IRON MAN’s Mark III suit from the forthcoming movie.
It frakkin’ rocks if you ask me. Looks really...right. To my eyes, at least.
Harry, Quint, and AICN Iron Man aficionados wiser than myself may well chime in on this later…so be sure to check back here in a bit to see if they’ve posted any further thoughts.

LOVE IT! Can't wait to see this in motion...to see how movement is handled.
The image came from Entertainment Weekly; ‘twas in an article you can find HERE!

"Double post" cool. It is.
-
OMG OMG OMG OMG!
-
Now that is how you stay faithful to the original. Iron Man is looking better and better the more I see of it. Now if only that talentless hack Bay had stayed faithful to the Transformer designs.
-
That is a pretty freakin cool lookin suit...Satn Winston is the shiiiiiiiit....for realz
-
The two postings have me confused
-
I was so close to being 1st! Anyways, Iron Man looks good. Foo on any fan boy nay sayer who doth dare nay sayeth!
-
-lights cigarette-
-
Someone will find something to complain about.
HIS THIGHS ARE TOO FAT!
THE EYES ARE TOO SQUINTY!
Looks fucking awesome to me. -
hard to believe that actually exists. i can't look at it without thinking it was pulled straight off a cover of the comic. i seem to remember thinking the same thing the first time i saw the spider-man costume. pretty good company to be in.
-
Still, I like it. The hardest part about an outfit like this for a movie is making us believe it COULD exist in the real world. I can suspend my disbelief for this. Good job.
-
That is awsome.
-
Looks like he needs a girlfriend in order to fix that problem.
-
You stupid fucking geeks, stop complaining about everything! Sweet ZOMBIE Jesus.
The armor looks fucking SAWEEET to me. So far, they DEFINITELY have my attention with this movie and what we've been given. -
Can't wait to see this in action.
-
who posted this picture. I said, "That's not new--he's been wearing that for a long time."
Of course, I meant he's been wearing it IN THE COMIC. Good to see the movie version does not stray from that representation of it. Now, how does he go poop? -
...when did RoboCop appear on Project Runway for a makeover?
-
Expecting good things from this production
-
At least it's not the late 80's design from the Armor Wars.
-
That is a great rendition of the Iron Man suit. It's gonna look cool as hell onscreen. All I'm hoping for now is that the villains end up looking suitably cool too. I'm still not sold on Mandarin! Maybe Dreadknight could make an appearance, or Crimson Dynamo.
-
You're gonna like the way Iron Man looks. I guarantee it.
-
This suit ROCKS... minus the very top of the head and some minor color problems. Just nitpicking, it's awesome.
-
AWESOME!
-
to run this story. I mean, it just hit Superherohype!
Anyway, cool design. I'm loving everything about this movie. Yes, eve Gweeneth. Good work Favs -
I can't believe I was the first one to say it.
-
As the design is clearly done by Adi Granov and it's not so different from the Extremis suit.
-
Very elegant, with a touch of jet-age aesthetic. Good job.
-
Shia LaBeouf. Because he is a SUPERSTAR.
Really though, that armor is pretty freakin' sweet! -
Looks awesome.
-
It's too soon to release pics.
-
kind of Robocop looking (not that that is a bad thing) I just hope the motion is not like Robocop.
-
It's true.
-
The more I see and hear from this film, the more excited I get about it. I've never been a huge Iron Man fan, but it looks like Favreau is really taking this shit seriously. In terms of comic movies I want to see, this is up there with THE DARK KNIGHT.
-
Hmmmm.....this may get the bad FF/FF2 taste out of the collective geek mouth. I may have to go home and crank up Guitar Hero so I can plays me some 'Iron Man' tunage!
-
It looks just like the suit in the comics, which was around long before Robocop. And you can't see his mouth, which is probably for the best given the facial hair that Downey grew for the role.
-
The rays of geekness shine upon you...(for now, until they turn on your like a rabid dog) And it does not look like Robocop. You could say then that Robocop looks like Iron Man, since Iron Man was first.
-
It looks like it jumped right of the page
-
That looks fantastic. Wow just wow. I am seriously energized now about this film.
-
Now if only we would hear the words "Avengers Assemble!"
-
THAT IS FUCKING AWESOME! reminds me of how he looks in marvel's civil war. All imposing and powerful and awesome... Hopefully stark isn't as much of a dick in this movie as he is in civil war though. Although just seeing this image gots me all fucking jazzed to see a captain american vs. ironman match if they ever make civil war into a movie or trilogy or something in the future. Im so glad they didn't fuck with his iconic look. now if only the people fucking with batman so much could learn this lesson.
-
Director Jon Favreau: "This is a decidedly adult superhero story."
-
Truly great!
-
Lookin good so far though... I wonder how heavy it is...
-
looks nice, now if I only liked the character
-
With things like transformers I can understand making design changes, cause if not you're making an 80's action movie. But this suit translates pretty well from the page to the screen, it would appear. So keeping it the same was a good instinct.
-
...this is how you adapt genre material to the big screen.
-
IM HAVING A GEEKGAZM! after seeing this I just want to see captain america back on the big screen now...
-
I loved Elf but this is a superhero movie. Can he handle Iron Man ?
-
I can not wait!
-
When that art came out a few months ago I thought it would be great if that's what it ended up looking like. Now this picture comes out and not only does it look like the art, it looks EXACTLY like the art. I'm stoked. To be fair though, it's an easier design to translate to film. Of all superhero suits, Iron Man is up there with the most plausible and least gaudy. No one is fucking with Batman, it's harder to translate grey and blue spandex, a cape and little pointy ears to real life. Unless you have someone who can sell it, like Adam West.
-
And if it doesn't, it will be one helluva disappointment.Come on Favs, don't let me down.
-
Let's see how it looks in the movie!
-
I turned off Elf about halfway through, and I thought Zathura looked like Jumangi 2: Space Jumangi. And not in a good way. But those films both seemed more oriented towards children, and I like what he has said in interviews so far and the cast and crew he has assembled. He seems to want to make an 80's style Spielberg/Zemeckis/Lucas style fantasy action movie. And I'm cool with that.
-
And that's a good thing. Looks riawesulome.
-
I wonder how they will handle the voice?
-
that had their childhoods raped by this suit.
-
or is this some computer image?
-
Please don't fuck this up....please.
-
...and doesn't suck? Now there's a concept! The suit looks great, nice amalgam of the classic red & gold suit and the crappy, overdesigned suit IM wears these days in the comics. But the classic outweighs the crappy and the thing works.
-
And retitle this Robocop 4: Robocop in Red
-
Needs to be just a little gayer.
-
tinyurl.com /33ywyk
-
now bring on War Machine!
-
The way Tinhead is standing in the picture, you can't see his codpiece, which surely inhibits a full and healthy erection
-
The company releasing Iron Man decided that it was too hard to portray a man in armor realistically so he is being replaced by a cloud.
-
cause that movie sucked balls to the walls!
-
Seriously, I can see Mini-Me taking a whizz in his glow hole on an upcoming Surreal Life vs. Celebrity Fit Club. Somebody needs to get Frank Miller on the case!
-
looks cool anyway
-
start wetting their pants?
-
We only just saw the photo of Robert Downey forging the mach 1 helmet last week!! I wonder, does the costume have like a pee-pee bag inside, or a built-in diaper? I wouldn't feel very tough kicking bad guys' asses if I had a peepee problem in my armor suit.
-
I wouldn't put him in "C" camp. The Guardian from Alpha Flight. Now THAT's "C" level.
-
I would have preferred a few more retro touches......and yeah, the pose is pretty mincey.
-
fuckin great lookin' armor! This is a character like Spiderman, that the design of the suit cannot veer far away from the comic pages. This outfit is iconic and to change it up too much would be crazy. But like a couple of people have brought up, still kinda unsure about the director. I've never seen Elf (sorry) or Zathura, so I don't know what to expect from this. Well, this is Favs' first crack at a superhero film, so he has the benefit of the doubt. Mark Steven Johnson talked the talk about the Ghost Rider character, how he was a big fan and all that other stuff and look what we got! He directed Daredevil, which to me wasn't colossally bad, but not really great either. Sony should have known better. But I'm VERY optimistic about Iron Man though.
-
So far, everything's looking really good for IRON MAN.
-
Looks good.
-
to look that good instead of the cheesefest that was the Reb Brown uniform. Hey, I loved Reb in Uncommon Valor. That was the first rated R movie I ever saw. My oldest cousin took my younger cousin, my brother and myself. Hackman, Swayze, Cobb, Ward, Dollman, Al Bundy's buddy when he was skinny. Ah, memories. Okay back to Capt America. The motorcycle helmet and plastic shield were awful. Even Christopher Lee couldn't save it. And don't say they didn't have the technology for cool uniforms. To that I respond: Darth Vader circa 1977.
-
Sorry, had to
-
I never would have thought that a Jon Favreau IRON MAN movie would have me anticipating it more than a Batman sequel, but ... he sure has. Between the image of the grey armor, Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and this ... and supposedly this is a real working suit? I'm sold. I'm really excited for this flick.
-
If he was c list then why was spidey playing second fiddle to him in civil war? and why was it ironman vs. captain america? If anything Ironman is an A lister up there with captain america, spiderman, fantastic four, hulk and x-men... c listers are like daredevil, punisher, and thor
-
pays to have sex with men.
-
BAD ASS!
This should be proof that some fanboys are never satisfied...cause if you don't like that then you should retire from watchin comic flicks. -
And neither is Iron Man. You're all nuts. They're all A Listers. Luke Cage, or Namor, or Dazzler.. Those are B Listers. C Listers would be like Powdered Toast Man or that guy from X3 with the Blowfish face.
-
That's a frickin' Iron Man suit, all right. I just hope to high heaven the script for this flick does its cast and design department justice.
-
On the thighs, the yellow plating is on TOP of the red, while everyone knows it should be the other way round. They've just lost my money.
-
I think they mean C-list in terms of popularity and fame amongst real people, not in the comics themselves. However, Iron Man still definitely qualifies for B-list at *worst*. And that's if you assume the only A-listers in the world are Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Hulk, and Wolverine. Iron Man is on par with Green Lantern, Flash, the Fantastic Four, and Thor in the sub-royalty strata of superhero fame.
-
That looks great. I wish to whatever higher being you believe in that the Transformers were this faithful.. and I'm not talking about blocky cartoon type characters.
-
Man, love that Favreau's going old school with Iron Man. So far, everything looks very good, but Iron Man will only be as good as his villain. Look what happened to Doom, and how that fucked up FF. Iron Man hasn't had too many A-list enemies, and the fact that the reported villain in the flick is the Mandarin (magic power rings!!??), has me worried.
-
...and bring in Jewel Staite. Oh, and as long as Iron Man's bad guy the Blizzard isn't being depicted as an actual snowstorm, this film is already better than FANTASTIC FOUR: ROTSS.
-
I don't know a whole lot about the comics, only the backstory. But it looks like this movie is going to totally rock. It matches what I would have picture.
-
Here's my A-list: Spider-Man, Superman, Batman, Hulk, Captain America. Maybe MAYBE Wonder Woman. And possibly Fantastic Four. Let's face it, FF are HUGE in the comic world, but nobody in my family could have told you who the fuck they were before the movie came out. They still can't, except for my kids.
My B-List: Fantastic Four, ALL of the X-Men, including Wolverine, Daredevil, Iron Man, etc etc. I freakin'LOVE Wolverine, and back in 1982 when I read the books I didn't understand why he wasn't more popular. The thought of a movie with him in it would have made me come, and I was only eleven at the time. But again, like FF, my guess is that while FF and X-Men are HUGE in the comics world, the population at large would be hard pressed to explain who they were, much less which heroes were in those groups and what their powers were. I would put people like Punisher and Ghost Rider at the bottom of my B-List.
My C-List: People like Green Arrow and Green Lantern, and Aquaman might be able to squeeze into the bottom of my B-list, but ONLY because the Superfriends TV cartoon might have made people more familiar with them. Otherwise, they are relagated to my C-company, along with people like Black Panther, Moon Knight, Swamp Thing, Apache Chief, Black Vulcan, Power Man and Iron Fist, anyone in Alpha Flight, Power Pack...etc. I'm right, just accept it.
-
I agree, I just don't like the idea that the only A listers are the ones you mentioned. I think some of the lesser known characters are still A-list even though they are sub-royalty, like Silver Surfer, or Dr. Doom, or Iron Man, or the Punisher. I think most laymen would recognize those names. I think the B-listers are characters that would not be recognized by the average laymen, but still have some fanboy cred. And C-listers aren't recognized by any laymen, and are shunned by fanboys. Anything lower than that and no one would be including it in a movie.
-
lmao...sad...just sad. johnnykool was right...Obi-bear, a sad juvenile name to go with even more juvenile comment...Clever? Not so much"
...anyway...The suit is is perfect, spot-on, as another said, believable because Winston didn't make the mistake of over-designing it.
btw, that's the only similarity to the RoboCop suit...simplicity of design...
All the pieces indeed in place for a great summer blockbuster..Downey is by far the best actor to appear in a comic movie- yeah, I include McKellen in that lis- t& that's enough 4 me
...Viva la Fe! -
Does anyone know who the bad guy is in Iron Man?
-
Even though he's Japanese by vote goes for Tadanobu Asano. tinyurl.com /2oneja
-
That looks friggin sweet!
-
You are correct that a hero is (partly) only as good as his villain. That's why Iron Man is not on my A-list. Ask anybody on the street who Iron Man's fuckin' nemesis is, and they can't tell you. I read Iron Man for a while back in the day, and I couldn't name ONE bad guy that was pretty much exclusive to his storyline. I don't know who the hell Mandarin is. They coulda played it safe in the movie and not had a supervillain at all, but rather a regular bad guy with lots of resources, or a bad conglomerate or army or some shit. Ask someone on the street who Spidey and Supes' bad guys are, and they WILL come up with names like Lex Luthor, Doc Ock, Electro, Sandman and maybe MAYBE Brainiac and Goblin.
-
Actually LOOKS like something from a comic book .... job done.
-
Looks just like him. tinyurl.com /2ha2fe
-
...C'mon! It's Tony Stark, the third or fourth smartest guy on Marvel-Earth. I'm sure he's figured out something... but it's patent is still pending, so it ain't available to the legions of geekdom, yet. You'll just have to keep using a bedpan held under your collective asses by your collective moms while you're collectively spending 18 hours a day playing World of Warcraft!
-
the movie will follow the plot of the straight-to-dvd release
-
He should fight MODOK. The world is ready for a giant head that sports tiny arms and legs to appear on the big screen. It is time.
-
Poop = energy
-
... It's either Jack Daniel or Johnny Walker, isn't it???

Great Costume
-
Holy Holy Holy!!! the world is having one fantastic nerdgasm! this is so much better than any of us thought it would be!!! I am stoked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
... not if this sucker is produced by Fox (is it?). Tim Rothman's probably really, REALLY scared of giant ambulatory heads!
-
Actually, that looks great. I never was much of an Iron Man fan, although I loves me some Fin Fang Foom (in his little shorts!) but I am looking forward to this flick now. I wish that kind of respectful realization from comic/cartoon to screen rang true with Transformers. Alas, it's not so.
-
I more or less agree with those breakouts, but I'm gonna have to argue with Namor being C-list, then. He's a definite B-list guy. To me, C-list says "Speedball, Power Pack, and the Great Laked Avengers". Though maybe those should be D-list...
-
My C list included Powdered Toast Man and Blowfish Man from X-Men 3..
-
That looks pretty sweet.
-
Either way, it's cool. I don't think Iron Man is that great of a superhero due to his suit - it's too rockateer for my tastes. Also, I consider Iron Man to be a C-list-super hero. The only A's are Superman, Batman and Spider-man. @FecalDebris = Apache Chief and Black Vulcan and Moon Knight are all D-List. Power Man is fucking F-list, sorry dude.
-
Mandarin is not the villain in this. I know Favreau initially spoke about using him, but I guess he abandoned the character to be used in a sequel instead. The villain of this film will be Obadiah Stane (aka Iron Monger), with Jeff Bridge in the role. Bridges has shaved his head for the part. I suspect Mandarin will pop up in the planned second film, providing this one does well.
.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obadiah_Stane -
Howard the Duck had a movie. No wonder Tony Stark hit the bottle.
-
Remove the legs and insert a tire in their place and what you got there is an updated version of GIZMODUCK!
-
GONNA BE SWEET!!!!
Suck IT SINGER!
HA....oh wait...he prolly would -
This looks PERFECT. I'm getting the feeling that this film is shaping up to be the best superhero film ever made. Given everything that we've seen and heard, Fav's gonna knock this shit out of the park.
-
Suddenly I'm excited about this movie!
-
and not like a power ranger.
-
It looks cool. Too bad Iron is so heavy he could never lift the suit to get it on him.
-
Stop posting! I wanted to be first shit!!!! The armor looks good but i remember the days (90's)when i was aware of a movie only by the newspapers and no too much secrets were revealed . Sometimes i hate internet. IRON MAN 2008!!!
-
this movie is gonna rock 3 ways to sunday
-
--the only AUTHENTIC pre-production imagery AICN can get a hold of these days comes from far more reputable sources. And the sad thing is, Entertainment Weekly is bullshit, too. When is AICN going to get off their lazy asses and actually find some cool news? I don't read this website for the goddamn commentary--it's as awful as shit pie, and worse. Posting crap articles about news reported by other websites and magazines is neither interesting nor worth my time.
-
There is a definite power ranger danger here. Wasn't as excited by this as by the Mach I that was posted a couple of weeks ago. To be honest, I REALLY don't like the idea of Mandarin being the enemy and am VERY happy to see Obadiah Stane as the enemy using Stark's own technology. One thing that drives me crazy is when (as in the crappy last 6 issues of the Ultimates)--when comics pick up on the warped hate that the media is putting out towards Middle Eastern and Eastern countries. So Mandarin as a bad-guy would just plug into that. But (as we learned in DKR), the REAL bad-guys are right here in the US of A. That's why Lex is such a powerful and memorable bad-guy for me. And the idea of a super-hero running around and fixing the shit he fucked up in the first place sounds fanTAStic.
-
http://www.themovieblog.com/archives/ironman-reject.jpg Hope it does not turn out like that
-
What about the MARK II?
Robocop Evolution !!!!?? -
Ah, sorry, I must've got confused because of the association between Namor and Dazzler. I can't help but think those two shouldn't be in the same class.
-
That's a great design! Pays homage to the original suit, adds in a little of the modern version, a nearly perfect job. My only small gripe is that it appears to look more like plastic than iron. But I won't really complain until I see it up on the big screen.
-
Way to go, Jon!
-
Nah, just kidding. This is awesome! This just keeps getting better and better.
-
this is what i fear http://www.themovieblog.com/archives/ironman-reject.jpg
-
http://tinyurl.com/2vrz3b
-
I was looking forward to better. It is pretty much exactly the same as every other iron man in the past 10 years. While that may be great for fanboys, for me it just translates to what ive already seen a hundred times before.
But thats jsut me and I'm glad they didnt screw it up. Iron man is awesome. New ideas/enhancements are just things I look forward to when seeing movies made from things I like. -
LANDA!
-
I just saw Million Dollar Baby and i feel really depressed . why!!!!!!???? :(
-
...MODOK. No special effects required.
-
Great design. After Lee's The Hulk, this might be ILM's chance to work on a more faithful adaptation of a Marvel superhero.
-
What do you want it to have flames and nipples on it? It's fucking Iron man thats what he is suppose to look like.
-
What was wrong with that suit? That design was killer, as is this design. Stan Winston is the professional's professional. He's the best there is. And obviously working with Adi Granov to achieve his aesthetic.
-
Freefingers?! Geesus! get your own name dud!I had enough of the freefinger clones when I unfortunatly posted my Password a year ago, now I gotta look out for this?!?!?!For the record, I say the suit is fine!
-
I'm kidding! Don't change anything, Just don't make a crappy movie.Everything looks great so far, which worries me...
-
like the suit, hate the pose.
like the actor, hate the actress.
Like the talkback, hate the talkbalk. -
You know those new animated Ultimate Avenger DVDs? They're only so-so, but they shoudl do Iron Man's voice like that - it's one thing the cartoons got right.
-
and Iron Man is C-list, then who is in your B-class? You didn't mention any.
-
Hope it's not too late to CGI them in.
-
When I see a real PHOTO of Robert Downey in the suit but holding the helmet in his hands. Or his helmet in one hand and a drink in the other.
-
for nipples. Seriously. Kinda like C-3PO. Am I wrong?
-
idk my bff jill
-
the designs for this movie are goddamn awesome. its gonna be a looooong wait for this one to come out
-
Hopefully this is only one of several armours to be used in the film. He should have a whole freakin' warehouse stocked with different types of armour. Hope they keep his usual list of villains out. Have him fighting AI jets and missiles and giant clouds and shit.
-
The suit looks awesome but spare a thought for poor ol' Robert. He's gonna sweat buckets in that mobile sauna. And what about pee breaks?
-
Yep, I'm right. Shellhead has, or at least had, Iron Nipples. Lookee here
http://tinyurl.com/2o2k75
-
He'll have to wear depends adult diapers. Maybe they'll rig up some kinda AC unit with a hose that he shoves into a valve or something in the armor.
-
Too bad someone handsomer was not behind the mask.
-
Thank God Micheal Bay changed the designs of the 'bots for the Transformers movie. Simply put: the cartoon designs were dated; they looked liked a big pile of fucking Legos.
-
Where's his winged horse and his lance? I kid, looks keen. "The world is ready for a giant head that sports tiny arms and legs to appear on the big screen." Christina Ricci IS "Modok"!
-
Now design Ultron for an Avengers movie!
-
Just sayin'. Lips on Nipples is a Good Thing. (Lips on Thing even gooder, and I'm not talkin' Ben Grimm.) FFIII: Martha Stewart is The Good Thing.
-
But I recognise the suit... and that IS the suit. If that's what it looks like, then count me excited for this flick. This has all kinds of potential.
-
so will this be a real suit worn by an actor and/or stuntman? or is it gonna be all CGI? because that picture looks like a drawing.
-
Could it be? Will they actually get this one right?
-
Can't wait to see this scene in the movie.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/deantrippe/IM008_cov.jpg -
That looks perfect.
My optimism level keeps going up and up.
Look at those pulsars ready to do some shootn'!
-
Looks sweet to me. Winston and robot suits go all the way back to HEARTBEEPS and MR ROBOTO. Awesome indeed!!!
-
I just don't think the general populace will care about this film. They will all be saying- "Iron Man"??? It just seems rather lame. Expect poor box office and no sequel.
-
I thought Elf was brilliant and Zathura was ok, at least he's already had experiance with effects and big productions so he will be able to concentrate on what matters while filming. He also directed Made which was a swingers type movie, very dialouge heavy, so we know he can do adult material. Plus he seems so nice and I still feel bad for him after he lost in The Ultimate Fighting Championship and then Monica dumped him.
-
Dude, totally A list. All of the Avengers are A List superheroes, even the Wasp.
FF, The Hulk, Spider-Man, the X-Men, The Punisher, these are all A List.
B list superheroes are more like Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Wonder Man, etc etc.
C list are more like Humbug, etc. -
...little kids and gays who like alcoholic billionairres.
-
Yeah, because the general populace was desperate for movies based on the Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Blade, and Hellblazer...
-
Holy shit this movie is doing everything right so far. This may redeem Marvel from Fantastic 4, Daredevil, Ghost Rider and Hulk.
But not X3. Nothing will ever erase the stain of X3...
They may be able to retain the coolness of X1&2 and Spidey though... -
Hope the rest of the movie is as good. Put RDJ in lifts.
-
wow i say
-
Stan Winston for president, fantastic suit! Much needed treat after the Die Hard PG13 news.
-
I have it on PS3 and I'm pretty sure this exact suit is unlockable in the game, released a few months ago. Anyone else play it? I'm too lazy to check.
-
Been holding my tongue on this (for the most part) but I admit it does look waaayy better than I expected. The circle thing on the thigh seems weird, but other than that they stayed true to the big jet boots and, most importantly, the color...I really really though they were going to bust out with some black and gold or silver thing that was completely off...Any way, for me to say it looks good is something in itself, cause I'm still pissed about the raised webbing on Spidey's movie suit and the fact that the Thing is the shortest one of the FF cast. All and all....great first look. Here's hoping for a true blockbuster!
-
This is a great look, just what Iron man should look like. But with the glowing eyes and Neon thing going on, someone obviously enjoyed the look of the Cybercontroller in last year's Doctor Who.
-
This is strange. Although I have tickets for Spidey 3 on opening day, I'm more stoked about NEXT summer's film all of a sudden. That suit is faultless. I'm deeply impressed.
-
I can see that few have caught the director's interview in which he said the suit is digital, not a practical. There will be no "suit" for the most part.
-
The movie will probably suck just because 90% of superhero movies suck. But I hope it is watchable at least.
-
Fuck this movie, that's it. FUCK IT!!! Naw really, that looks damn cool and totally looks like Iron-Man. I think this latest Marvel film looks set to blow the others out of the water in terms of respect for the source material.
-
His name is Ash and he is a slave.......it wasn't always like that, he had a real life...once.
-
The problem with these movies is the great unwashed have no sense that all of these flicks are set *in the same world*. The fun of comics is in the shared universe, the common environment. When the FF thunder by, we should occasionally see Spider-Man swinging in the background, or Ghost Rider cutting through an expressway while the main action is foreground in the Iron Man feature. And a team up of any of the movie characters would drive the fans absolutely insane. Pity the film rights are spread out amongst so many studios.
-
That suit isn't a redesign. It's the same beautiful design from the recent IM comics and Civil War. I'd say it's the best. I love the old gold tights with red trunks, but the curent armor looks like something that would actually work.
-
After seeing the Mark I a few weeks back, I didn't think they could make it look much more cool than that, but THIS to me is just as much of a pleasant surprise and relief as it was to see that they didn't tamper with Spiderman on the first movie. I hate it when they mess up the costumes from the books. This looks stellar!!!
-
We've seen the Mark 1, the one he builds in Afghanistan, and now we see the Mark 3, the current version as it exists in the comics. Maybe Mark 2 will be the classic red-and-gold tights and trunks, more-or-less, and you'll be happy? They have to hold out some surprises!
-
I'd be interested in seeing the article you mentioned -- I know a guy who was up for stunt doubling duties for the suited Iron Man (another double will be used for RDJ, who's 5'8" or so. The suit character is 6'1"). Oh -- my friend isn't CGI. In addition, Favreau isn't that big a fan of CG -- so I'd be surprised if he was doing more CG suit stuff than he absolutely had to.
-
Somebody had to ;DLooks like it'll be a cool suit!
-
Wouldn't all that armor give him an unfair advantage in the Iron Man competition?
-
What the puck is up with Jessica Alba's eyes? That and her lips look like a bad Nip/Tuck episode. She's still hot but still NOT Sue Storm.
-
Somebody had to ;DDollar Bird you joker!!Looks like it'll be a cool suit!
-
This will rule. Bet on it!
-
is correct. A-list?!? Pizza Hut and Mountain Dew are starting to fry your fanboy brains!
-
And while it's an excellent Iron Man, notice too that we're finally getting a masked superhero with blank, glowing eyes the way Gawd intended. Huzzah!
-
since Granov drew the teaser poster in July and as I hoped they kept the circular Uni-beam chest-light as opposed to the modern triangular version. The shoulder plates and knee-joints are more like the armour worn by Iron Man in 2002 as opposed to Granov's later designs.
It was obvious that there would be tweaking and the armour wouldn't match exactly to an armour in the book but I'm still genuinely surprised by how faithful Favreau is to the source material.
As a reader of Iron Man since Tales of Suspence and a supporter of those who serve the elected government: This armour gets thumbs up! -
How many C-listers had their own animated series, lead a team of superheroes, starred and was a major focal point of a major Marvel comics story arc, have your own comic book dedicated to you and a separate comic book dedicated to the team you lead, and have a movie coming out?
-
Good to see this Movie becoming very good.
Can't wait to see it in Action. -
can it be that we pretty much all agree on something? except maybe for the 2 or 3 people who seem to feel the need to post something even though theyve never read an issue of Iron Man in their lives...
-
That looks too good, it must be CGI because that's unfragging believable if that is an actual suit.
I MUST SEE THIS MOVIE! -
Everything that has been released about this movie from the director, actors and set photos has been nothing but top notch. Looks fucking incredible.
-
The prob is I'm sure Favs doesn't want his Iron Man in the same universe as Elektra.
-
very cool.
-
Loved his Aliens, Terminators, dinosaurs, and not his superhero. The man is god in his field, not satan, in response to a previous post.
-
That's just ridiculous. Even if, as I said above, you cut the "A-List" to the 7 superheroes pretty much everyone knows these days, Iron Man is B-list at worst. Seriously, if you look at him in terms of the Marvel Universe, he's easily one of the five to ten most important and iconic characters. He's one of the "big 3" of the Avengers--Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor--and that puts him at least on par with the Fantastic Four.
-
KIDDING. Looks great. Bay take note!
-
IESB just posted this video and report!
http://tinyurl.com/29w9eq -
And it's official - the suit is going to be a practical effect wherever possible. Seriously, check out his and Stan Winston's interviews on KCRW's "The Business." Favreau's a devoted practical effect afficionado.
-
This suit looks nothing like Robocop...I see nothing but comic Iron man in this thing...looks GREAT!!!
one nitpick could be to have slightly larger eyes, but its fine overall! -
That is just *tits*.This film could kick Batman's ass sideways.
-
easily the most ridiculous aspect of Battlestar Galactica. Let's not perpetuate that, please
-
Dead or alive, you're coming with me...
-
at this stage, in that (really small so who the hell knows WHAT'S going on) pic.
Kurzinski, you've never heard of Stan Winston Digital I guess. The she-terminator for example was modelled in 3d and they used rapid prototyping and computer controlled milling to make the final thing, and if anything else justifies a similar approach it'd be this. There's been a ton of digital stuff since T3, whether the final result is practical or not. I like that they seem to use it for the right reasons. There's a big section of that recent Winston book devoted to it, too. -
Yeppers.
-
I love the look too.
DocPaz, you're a genius. Modok. Too funny. -
not a big iron man comic fan, but from the casting to the design this sure looks like a lot of smart moves are being made...NICE!
-
Complete with steam and pressure gauges and shit, essentially a big iron suit. How come they didn't go with that design? No, seriously I absolutely love Adi Granov's work on Iron Man and this design looks sweet and ready kick ass!
-
haven't read it yet but there's a heap of cool stuff from the looks and some awesome Crash McCreery art.
I wanna see the stage 2, too. I'm with you, Yack. Lookin' good. -
money even, I would say.
-
While i like the "mark 3" (or whatever it is... ironmanarmory.com/armors.html shows naming conventions aren't standard), I want to see the classic superhero-looking suit (pick any of the red/gold, non-bulky-legs-style ones off the site above) one too! This one is cool, but too roboty! too cyborgy! I want at least one shot of a practical costume that looks like the classic combo-"tights"/machine look. This one implies... I dunno... that anyone can crawl into one of these things and join the avengers? yeah I know, I know. That's pretty much how it is in the books. But still, something about that Marvel Superheroes cartoon look that I love that implies "costume" rather than "machine suit". Who's with me?
-
That is absolutely brilliant. I don't even read Iron Man. Fav is doing this right as far as I am concerned. Time will tell of course, but I can only rely on what the film holds since I do not know the source material too well. I am really excited about this. It just seems so right at the moment. Hope it delivers.Couldn't resist the childish rant, but Fuck You Bay. This is how you respect and IP. Tool.Looking forward to Howard as War Machine whilst RDJr. is playing the drunk Stark in the sequel - could make for some great drama if they are brave enough i.e. they have the talent, hope the suits give them carte blanche (sp?). This could really be a kick ass franchise. Hope they don't blow it.
-
The Iron Man movie suit looks like the comic book Iron Man, but on that note, does a faithful adaptation necessarily make a great movie? I'm not really familiar with Favreau as a director, but I don't see him in the same league as a Tim Burton or Ang Lee, or even Sam Raimi. Could it be the Iron Man director is taking everything from the comics cause he couldn't come up with anything better other than snappy dialogue? I appreciated Tim Burton's Batman, Ang Lee's Hulk, and to a degree, Bryan Singer's X-Men because they had the talent and unique vision to give me( a comic book fan) something I wasn't expecting, a new take on familiar characters. If they had given me 100% Stan Lee inspired scriptage, I'd have to say, I might have been bored. Does Jon Favreau have a similiar unique vision? Or will he give us something we've already read already? I'm just saying, so far, the visuals for this Iron Man movie look cool and faithful and all, but I wouldn't get the hopes up too high. That being said...Fly, Iron Man, Fly!
-
the story and dialogue are no good. And if the casting is off. However, being faithful to the source material is certainly not a detraction, unless the original source material sucks and you're improving on the idea. Which excludes most Hollywood product.
-
too bad I don't care at all about Iron Man. If this gets great reviews, I might see it. Favreau is more of a selling point than the title character for me.
-
...THE SUIT?!?!?!? Correct me if I'm wrong, but Favreau's last effort, 'Zathura' blew. Why is everyone so exited again? Only reason 'Swingers' and 'Made' were any good was Vince Vaughn.
-
with these fucking claws and fangs, he's not gonna hurt the bunny.
-
Not just the suit.. (although I really love the grey armor shot they had up a few weeks ago.) I'm excited because this is a wonderful cast. Robert Downey Jr., Jeff Bridges, Terrance Howard, and Gweneth Paltrow? Not to mention that I do like Favs as a director and to hell with the haters, Zathura wasn't that bad at all. As far as a movie geared towards kids, there's been a lot worse out there in the last few years. I cannot wait for that first teaser and see everything working in motion.
-
I'd like to have a better view of the suit, to see how it all comes together around the thigh, ...though I can see that they've done a wonderful job with the design. But as a trained artist, I'm going to play hardball. I'm giving this design a grade A ...but I'm going to tell you how this suit would've gotten an A+ (from me, anyway). During that split-second that I first glimpsed at the picture, I felt that the shoulders were a little too big and bulky. But I quickly realized that it's a little more complicated than that. These parts of the suit have to register a sense of scale against one another, ...and for RDJ, you're going to need that increase in shoulder size to give him a more imposing look, ...to not look underwhelming against the size of the helmet. However, (most importantly) I would increase the size of the arm pieces, around the biceps. Otherwise, the proportions of the suit are only a bit off from what I would want to see. Great job, so far. Now, ...if only RDJ surprises me with his performance as Tony Stark.
-
Look at the failed 1997 Spawn movie and we can see some similarities: smaller hands vs big head pieces, it is very close to Adi Granov's designs BUT the proportions still seem to be a problem, even for Stan Winston.
Yes I am nit-picking and yes I could not have done a finer job becuse I do not have the mr Winston's talent,it is just an observation in proportions.
-
Look at those cheekbones! Iron Man's purging to look good for the movie, isn't he...? lol Seriously, looks good.
-
Not a big iron man fan myself i don't even know the story line really but i do know what he looks like and it was never grey he looks like that picture.
cool -
Which means the studio will fuck it up by giving a heavy metal rock soudtrack and have Chad Croggereafr do the theme. I can see the trailer now... "LET THE BODIES HIT THE FLOOR"
-
You haters shut up. How can you moan about tiny details when this is so clearly on the money as a whole? Nice job Stan Winston (and to Adi Granov really, whose designs this is clearly based on).
-
And i agree, How do you have a movement in this thing?
-
For all this talk about fanboys being nitpicks, yet they're mentioning how they hope it's better than all the "bad" Marvel movies. I think all of the Marvel movies were good; granted, I prefer the DC movies (and the heroes they're based on), but the only possibly bad Marvel flick is "Elektra". Yet, because they don't follow the source material or the suit isn't perfect they're shunned by the fans. How is that right?
-Gary
-
Maybe it's because we fanboys expect better. Plus following the source material usually makes for the best comic book movies. Superman, Spider-Man, Batman Begins, Sin City, and 300. All of these movies have a sizable fanbase because they stayed true to the source material.
-
You know its true
-
Iron mans armour isnt really that difficult to translate to live action so its not an acheivement, as impressive as getting ,lets say, hellboys live action look right . But hey, who gives a fuck ? were finally gettin an iron man movie and it lookin hot !
-
... this is my favorite Marvel Hero despite it being a B-list character. Casting - perfect. Suit - perfect. Can not wait for this motion picture. Hail the Shell-headed!
-
That's all.
-
I didn't think they did that any more in comic book movies.
-
I agree with you that each movie adaption doesn't have to stick 100% to the comic, but it certainly must be true to the source material. The characters have to act like they were written. Now that's not always easy when they have a long history and each writer does his own thing with the character, but you kind of know how the character should act. For instance, the first FF got 3 of the 5 characters completely wrong (Reed, Sue, Doom). That's a problem.Superman Returns made Supes a stalker/eavesdropper. And of course Kryptonite didn't affect him while lifting the rock. I personally don't care if they change appearances a bit (X-men), but I thought the first two of those movies were great. Wolvie was Wolvie, but Cyclops got shafted. And it doesn't bother me that they wore black leather as their costumes, I certainly didn't expect them to be wearing bright yellow/red/blue costumes.
-
IRONMAN shilling for viagra?
-
I think if you take the movies as what they are, disreguarding the source material SOMEWHAT, then it is way better than you guys think. Not that I'm insulting your opinion, but I thought Fantastic Four was pretty good. Not the best, but decent comedy and pretty cool effects. Granted, there could have been more/better action, but 90% of the origin movies are slower than the rest.
-gary -
My thoughts exactly.
-
supergary452 (by the way, are you more super than 451?). I have no problem if the deviate from the comics a bit, as long as the 'feel' is the same. The FF wasn't as bad as I thought, but then again, I didn't have any expectations for it. Yes, the effects were pretty good, but they just ruined Doom, and Sue and Reed were completely wrong. Look it the first Spidey. It doesn't matter if it's organic or mechanical web shooters, he's still Spidey. He acted like Spidey (Yeah, I know, it doesn't crack it up like he should when he's webslinging around), so it was Spidey for me. One could argue though, that they still should have been made by Petey. That's who he was, a bit of a scientific wiz, and it certainly helped him defeat foes in the beginning (Electro for one).Does that mean we are the same person HeWhoCannotBeNamed? Freaky.
-
"Decent comedy"? Do you know what comedy is? Mate, you wouldn't know a shitty movie if it bit you on the ballsack.
-
Hey, I'd rather watch that again than Superman Returns.
-
All of the Robocop comparisons have been taken. Oh well.
-
... is the new sexiest tomboy beanpole on the planet!!!
-
DO IT! PUT HIM IN THE BACKGROUND, HAVE HIM ON TV... do something. Need an Avengers tease.
-
Never really care about Ironman... until now!
-
Yes, the hands do look small. I was going to mention it myself but there's not a lot you can do about THAT... so long as the character requires use of his fingers while in costume (like for pushing important buttons). Sure, they could bulk up the back of the hands and fingers. In fact, that wouldn't be a bad thing to do, either. But all in all, I'm really happy with what I'm seeing here. When Hollywood manages to get this close to the bullseye, I don't complain too much. And wrong or right, we like to share our opinions on how things can improve, from each individual's unique perspective. And that's mostly what these talkbacks are about, aren't they? Or, at least, it should be. And I suppose in earlier talkbacks, I may've been a bit harsh on Robert Downey, Jr. in getting the role of Tony Stark. But Stark is a man's man, you know? From my own perspective, a person needs a certain something... I find it hard to come up with the words... but we all know that type of character, don't we? Tony Stark is a man who would feel quite at home (even) with the high-strung men in "PREDATOR", you know what I mean? (And I can't imagine RDJ being part of that group in PREDATOR.) There are aspects to Stark's character that I just can't see in Robert Downey, Jr. Sure, RDJ is a talented actor and he will certainly have the genius angle covered. But I'm not so sure that his acting chops can satisfy what I look for in the complete character, if they want to remain faithful to the character that I know. That's just the way I see it. Whatever the case, I hope this turns out to be a great flick. Despite how I feel about the interpretation of Tony Stark, there's no reason why this can't be a different animal, ...one that still has bite.
-
The comedy wasn't the best; then again, FF wasn't marketed as a comedy. But Johnny Storm/Ben Grimm and the actor Chris Evans in general made the movie better, in my opinion.
And again, even though I liked it overall I have to say that it was only "pretty good", not "I loved it". If FF2 is the same except with Silver Surfer and more/better action sequences, I'll be happy. And I think everyone's over-reacting about the galactus-cloud decision. If they get to a third film, then it would be a great reveal for a 3rd film to finally see Galactus.
-gary -
I can understand what you're saying. And I agree, Superman Returns was somewhat dissapointing...but I think with how they did the 1st one, the sequel (with more action, ect.) could be REALLY awesome.
-
OK, at this point, I'm not going to read any more about Iron Man. I want to go into it not knowing as much as possible so I can fully enjoy it. I knew all of Revenge of the Sith before I went to see it (that movie was over 20 years coming for me) and while I enjoyed it, I would've enjoyed it more unspoiled. THAT SUIT LOOKS FANTASTIC! THE CAST IS FANTASTIC! I HOPE THE REST OF IT LIVES UP TO THE HYPE!
-
But I have to disagree. FF was shameful, in my opinion. Superman Returns, I wasn't too fond of the kid (they should have named him Christopher, dammit), but the rest was good old-fashioned blockbuster all the way. And you know how Singer works. First one was just the warm-up.
-
May 03, 2007 8:57:31 AM CDT
maintain your optimism for FF2 and Supe Returns again
by just pillow talk
cause I sure don't have much for either one. And I really think the cloud decision is a very bad one. If they were doing it as a 'vehicle' to hide Galactus' movement until he 'announces' his arrival to Earth and is revealed as the giant purple man we all know and love, that would be cool. But that's not what they are doing from what I read. Galactus is a cloud. That's just piss poor.
-
About the cloud being too greyish and foggy.
"Should have been a purple cloud! Sob...." -
... they're using a real suit whenever possible and not all-CGI-all-the-time. (Though it would be cool to see the suit deploy in memory plastic fashion like the Batmobile shields in the first Burton Batman.)
Unfortunately, the Civil War comics have taught me to *despise* Tony Stark, who used to be one of my heroes. Guess I'll just have to imagine this taking place in another universe where Iron Man is a good guy instead of a fascist. -
Wow. The costume looks great... nice mix of old school and Ultimate Iron Man.
Check out a fun list of lines Iron Man should say at:
http://popcultureadd.blogspot.com/ -
that is pretty sweet actually. Can't wait to see it on the big screen...
Greg

I understand the hate for Hulk (to talky) and i guess to an extent FF (there was so so much potential to do more, they fucked Doom over) but Superman Returns was a great film, a true blockbuster. I know given the chance we will all be pleasently suprised by SR2, Dark Knight, Iron Man,and Incredible Hulk. Atleast the directors and actors are in place. My beef with FF is that it should have been on the level of a Star Wars original trilogy with Doom being the Vader charactor of course,Reed as Obi Wan,Johnny as Luke,Sue as Princess Lea, and Ben as the Han/Chew combo. It could have started in space, then back to NY then back to a huge outerspace battle with Doom's eventual team up for a Galactus showdown. Couldaaa been great!!!!
-
Supes was a non-presence in his own flick (Clark Kent as a character got the total shaft), Bosworth was hideously miscast, Luthor was under-used (and AGAIN wit the stupid henchwoman who betrays him at the end?), and there was no decent action other than the plane crash. Punch something Supes, for Crissakes!! It was a suck off to Donner and tedious as fuck. To stay on topic though, this Iron Man suit still totally rocks.
-
I have the DVD, but cannot watch it. To do so would be a chore. Were it not so extraordinarily tedious, and memorable for that only, it would be completely forgettable. They should have saved the plane sequence for when they had a better movie to wrap around it. What a blast of diarhea in the face that was.
-
You said it's the coolest thing you've ever seen...haven't you ever been with a girl naked?
-
...this looks nothing like Iron Man. He should look more like an ape, but with tremendous chicken feet and tentacles for hands. He should also be totally covered in wires - less metal plates, they make him look like a toy. It's also completely unrealistic that he'd fire energy weapons from his hands. (Come on, seriously!) Instead, he should use a baseball bat or maybe carry a taser. Aside from this, Mr Bay says he looks good. Just slap some flame decals on his chest - cause everything metallic looks better with flames - and he's good to go.
-
nah, farking perfect. good call. love seeing a postive talkback, remember to stomp on any whiney motherfuckers who say otherwise.
-
It will be interesting to see what ILM is doing on this show. I know Favreau is a fan of practical stuff.
Ben Snow, who worked recently at Weta on KK, is leading the ILM effort.
I don't know what the split will be between them and Winston though. -
No gasket nipples on the iron man armor = crewcut on superskrull johnny storm = wig on Ghost Rider
-
Have faith SpencerTrilby - this is just a jpeg. The internet is limited in colors - so odds are this isn't a 100% representation of the color. Besides, color is dependant upon how much light hits it, so it will look slightly different in hue from scene to scene. Now I'm just nit-picking. Looks awesome - even if mobitlity comes across a bit stiff. Metal can't bend and be as fluid as it appears in comics. Again, I gotta say: This is probably the only comic book movie adaption (from what we have seen so far -armors and cast) that has been so highly praised by normallly anal retentive fanboys. Awesome work LORD WINSTON!Good on ya Favreau! "VERY MONEY BAB!"
-
This suit looks like its based off the Iron Man 2020 suit which appeared in that Machine Man limited series which focused on the story of MM waking up in the year 2020.
-
Yeah, that's a great way to make a movie.
-
Really needs to sit down without bring in your adult cynical bullshit baggage and watch Zathura. The guy so totally gets when to go with CGI and when to go with practical effects. Plus he always seems to get a damn fine performance out of children so I am sure he will work well with Downey Jr.
-
And still looking forward to Iron Man.
-
That is all.
-
If they build it, I will come.
-
And that is all.
-
exactly what powers that big fuck off X-Files strength torch thingie on his chest?
-
"So everyone's so exited about this based on....THE SUIT?!?!?!?"
Not only the suit. The fact that everything known so far, each decision, each announcement - has been "correct" to fans, good news. As somone said earlier, "so far Fav has done everything right." The sum of all of that = the building excitement. He's got people's confidence to this point. -
I think Fav respects the genre. He's not trying to make a name for himself by changing the mythology around. From the photos we've seen (and that's all we've seen), it looks like he's doing his best to translate the story from one medium to the next. Of course I could be wrong- we still haven't seen a clip or lick of footage. But if respect is there, it will reflect in the final product.
-
yes it does
-
Seriously does he vaporize his poop with lazers or just jettison it over the earth from 30 thousand feet?
-
Can't we get it in a matte finish with some racing stripes?
-
There must be some kind of shit-slit in the back. Surrounded by rust and scale.
-
'Cause that suit is HOT!
-
I understand the need for having the first suit be of real iron but shouldn't the 3rd suit be some sort of carbon fiber and steel power fused suit (for movement reason alone!!!) Hear me out... Rapid Prototype machines can print out steel parts. They print the steel power in layers and when the part is finished it's tossed into a over and the heat fuses this powder into a solid. Maybe Tony finds that guy that invented the Anti Bear Suit (this suit is awsome!)Some how these two are friends and he uses his formula combined with Iron Oxide to make the M3 suit(Maybe Tony starts a armor company for troops in Iraq and goes to this guy to get it done, and thats how they become friends or maybe the anti bear guy goes to him after the news of the first suit goes global)
Tony has the M3 suit drawn up on a computer in 3d and then printed out. It's made of iron oxide, cyanoacrylate (superglue LOL), carbon fiber particals, and orb spider silk. So it's iron but iron that super strong and super lightweight!
http://tinyurl.com/yrw2hd
/\heres the anti bear suit dude, he is currently working on armor concepts for the troops in Iraq. -
did you just put Luke Cage and the Dazzler on the same level? Go read New Avengers #22 then see if you want to post anymore crazy talk like that.
-
Anywhere that may be found, arrr?
-
Yes its an actuall Armor, I heard from reading it on the wikipedia Before it came out..and Btw its not nathan lane or whatever its robert downy jr.
