Sideshow Collectibles Spider-Man and Venom Contest!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Yes, I know. ROCKY and SUPERMAN. I do hear you folks when you ask about them and have responded to a few dozen of your emails and left a few talkbacks on those contests. I apologize for getting so far behind on them both. I have good excuses for both, but they are excuses nonetheless. From my mail application dying twice resulting in many months when I didn’t even know if I’d be able to recover the 77 jokes I’ve narrowed down from nearly 1000 entries to losing contact with the originators of the contest. Anything that could have gone wrong went wrong. I’m in the final stages of clearing up everything and will hopefully have the results of those two contests to you in the very near future. I’m making it a priority, I promise. In the meantime, I’ve been asked by Sideshow if I’d like to run a contest for a pair of SPIDER-MAN 3 busts. Of course I would! Up for grabs are Red & Blue Spidey and Venom. Check ‘em out below!

Pretty sweet, yeah? Each one is 8 inches tall and a limited edition so secret and limited they won’t announce just how limited it is! Heh… TBD on that, but you can bet it won’t be hundreds of thousands. They each retail for $44.99. But you don’t care about that. You want them for free. The contest will be a visual one, so good news for you artists and photoshop genius’. The ROCKY joke contest defeated me. Reading all those jokes (just to narrow it down to under a hundred took about 3 days of reading, 4 or so hours a day) beat me badder than Thunderlips, Apollo Creed and Brigitte Nielsen combined. Venom was one of fandom’s most anticipated SPIDER-MAN villains realized for the big screen. Who’s left? Who do you want to see and how do you want to see him/her represented? What I want is for you brainiac types to design me your vision of a new screen villain for Spidey to fight in an upcoming movie. The trick is it has to be from Marvel’s rogue’s gallery and Spider-Man had to fight him/her/it at least once in one of the many books he appeared… Marvel Team-Up, Amazing, Spectacular and Peter Parker Spider-Man or any of his guest appearances in another Marvel book. So, take a known Marvel villain (or someone who has been a villain at some point, which means characters like Black Cat are okay) and design a costume to be worn onscreen. I also want your choice on actor to cast. You can use photoshop, inks, paints, clay (maquettes), crayons, whatever. I’ll be judging on creativity and execution. Here are the specifics: WHEN From the moment you read this until 11:59pm (CST) May 10th. This coincides with Sideshow’s Spider-Man Week. Click here to see the cool stuff they have on their mainpage! HOW You enter by emailing me at quint@aintitcool.com with the subject line VILLAIN DESIGN CONTEST. You must include your physical address (should you win, this will be needed to send your prizes), a jpg under 100k with your design and a short sentence or two on who you want to play the villain in a later film and why. If you wish me to see a larger version of your work, you’ll need to include a link to the larger .jpg, which you can host on many free filesharing sites… just google and you’ll get many options. WHERE The contest is open internationally, so anyone in the world can enter (with very few exceptions… be sure to check the legal fine print below!)

Winner takes the pair together. If you have any questions, email me or ask in the talkbacks below. I have to add that my choices as judge are final and I reserve the right to pick my favorite entry, no matter how much you may disagree with it. I also will say that if the product is pulled by Sideshow, neither I nor AICN will be responsible for fulfilling the contest obligation. Sucks I have to say that, but I’ve had some bad apples try to take advantage of these contests before. One last thing before I go… I will be traveling out of country during this contest. I’ll be in Serbia, of all places, for 5 days. I’m not sure what the internet situation will be like, but if for some reason I can’t download my mail and the server gets backed up, resulting in bounced entries, look back to this contest page. I’ll update with new instructions then. I don’t anticipate any troubles, but if you get a bounce-back from the 5th-10th, check here. Good luck. I look forward to seeing your entries and expect a lot of really smart casting and villain suggestions. -Quint quint@aintitcool.com
